GPON = Gigabit Passive Optical Network

It's referring to the Huawei EcoLife GPON Terminal HG850a unit from TM  smile.gif

Last time we checked, they only bring in RB750's @ RM310 which is a full router. We only need a smart switch biggrin.gif

Yes.
IRC XDCC speed has been terrible for a few days.
Can't even get about 20k/s yesterday. I hope it is temporary.

So, if I purchase the RB750, does it mean that I still can do what you have written, and can do it without additional router? i.e. RB750 = RB250 GS + Router?

Well you need to check whether the router can do both Vlan tagging 500,600 at the same time on 2 of the ports it has or not. If it can it will probably will work exactly like ur DIR-615.

Been over 1 week since I applied Unifi and started read this thread, then only to found out that I joined Unifi group at the wrong time.

The reason I didnt really push TM to install unifi for me because I hope that they fix the router issue b4 fixing my unifi connection. But i doubt they got the capability.

To me the value of the RB250 GS over dlink RG is you got piece of mind that it should be available to serve you anytime. No doubt it may fail but just like my Belkin Streamyx router I know it'll be there unless there's a major storm! Unlike my experience with the 2 x dlink replacement... the last one I've purchased VOD and the thing kong out... since VOD is valid for 24 hours it's burnt! It's such a hassle to wait for few days then need to come back to host the technician, etc...

At the bottom of it I think RB250 GS and dlink passthru/bridge - are the same, probably RB250 GS is more stable and better performance. I'm currently on my 3rd Dlink and already using the bridge method. From what I see there are times when there's a delay in response... just don't know why. I'm seriously considering RB250 GS.

When users mentioned DIR165 malfunction or burn, does it mean it catches fire or just stop functioning, as could'nt monitor the unit 24/7. Just would like to know in case the unthinkable happens. Thanks

Don't take it literally as it does not catch any fire but when we say "burn", what we mean is kaput. The DIR 615 has overheating issues if not properly ventilated.

Ok, thanks, glad to know that the unit would not catch fire if kaput. biggrin.gif

Ok I plan to subscribe Unifi VIP 5 now. Before I subscribe, do you guys think I should terminate my streamyx first or they'll just replace it?

And then, is it advisable for me to buy router/modem outside separately instead using TMnet's one?

Can we use the same setup as RB250GS for RB750's?

Apartment or house?
Apartment: They will install Unifi. But your streamyx cannot be use.
House: You can use both all the time.

Terminate o not? Your call. laugh.gif

I guess I'll terminate streamyx then. What's the point of having 2 different connections, cannot afford to pay so much to tmnet.

So pws can I ask, now I'm using Level One Modem with a Aztech wireless router. Can I use them back for unifi or I have to go out buy new equipment separately? Until now I still unclear how this Unifi works.

Level One Modem cannot be used.
Aztech wireless router can be used using bridge method. Check on the website in the 1st page 1st post.

My connection has been down for about 6 days now and the techies have been really slow in responding and coming over to fix it. typical TM.

This afternoon they came to have a look at my place, didn't know what the problem was, dissapeared to check something and I think I will not see them again today..

All this delayed service despite me calling and berrating every single person I can get on the line. The good thing is, I have the technician HP number.... mwahahahahahahahahaha~!!!
