yeah I think most of us would really want to know this setup. Waiting for your good news.

I followed Riz's setup, except I configure VLAN as:
Attached Image
Attached Image

and now can connect like this:
Huawei BTU[LAN1]----> [LAN5]RB250GS[LAN3] ----> Router(without tagging)
......................................................[LAN4] ----> IPTV STB

So that means can just use existing router without dd-wrt flashing & tagging! rclxms.gif

Yes, still no luck on Broadcom chipset, both internet & IPTV won't work at all....
Whereas Ralink & Atheros only can do VLAN?.500 tagging but no IPTV ....

Really hope some expert out there can make Broadcom chipset works on both VLANs ... notworthy.gif

There's really not much difference in wiring up your VLAN capable router to the BTU directly with IPTV through the RB250. The only thing I fear is that because the IPTV needs slightly higher data priority, if you use two diff ports on the BTU your video stream might be affected.. but that's about it really.

billytong : I tested that setup with UT running at 2.5MB/s while streaming HD IPTV + VOD streams.. everything was really smooth smile.gif

What exactly does the RB250 GS offer as a replacement for the free DIR-615 ?

I thought they both do the same thing as in act like a switch to enable vlan to work. So what is the advantage in spending for the microtik get you :/ ??

I don't have the luxury to spend unnecessarily if there is no actual improvement.

DIR-615 --> not stable, problematic.
RB250 GS --> stable, smoother.

But isn't that true if the dir-615 is used as the router ??

But in switch mode using riv's guide so can use own router, doesn't the dir-615 not have any effect on performance ?? hmm.gif

Of course you can always configure the DIR-615 as bridge mode and use your own router to connect.

My DIR-615 was replaced after 10 days, consider the fact that it was only running on bridge mode, WiFi turn-off, cooling pad underneath, AVR power supply.
This also happened to many others, you may read past postings ....

I really don't know what will happen if the DIR-615 rosak again and what happen after the 1 year warranty period .... sad.gif

Therefore my intention is to replace that DIR-615 completely, this piece of equipment is really hopeless, even TM admitted it!

I felt that with the IPTV too but I assumed it was just due to a firmware upgrade or something (since I haven't turned the STB on for a few months =x).

GPON = Gigabit Passive Optical Network

It's referring to the Huawei EcoLife GPON Terminal HG850a unit from TM smile.gif
