Anyway, good news guys smile.gif

klseet dropped by my house today and passed me two Mikrotik RB250GS's for testing.. and I have to say, I'm impressed with it tongue.gif

I managed to get things up and running in about 15 minutes using that configuration however I'm still testing everything to ensure it gives the best performance. Based on what I'm seeing in my Wireshark dumps from my linux box, the VLAN tagging/stripping is working as it should so I'm pretty sure this can permanently replace the DIR-615 for about 55SGD tongue.gif

Some configuration settings work however it causes duplicate packets and doesn't correctly filter the ARP packet flood which is spewing out of the Unifi IPTV network so I'm testing every possible configuration through Wireshark before I write up a proper guide for this (give me <24 hours tongue.gif).

I'm posting here through my Windows PPPoE dialer. My PC is directly hooked up to the RB250GS at the moment. Excellent performance and stability so far smile.gif Gonna go dig up my IPTV STB from the hole I buried it in to see if it works.

Rizvanrp, I suggest your VLAN mode change it to "strict". Maybe you should configure Port 1 to BTU, Port 4 (VLAN 500) to router and Port 5 (VLAN 600) to IPTV so that it is inline with your previous mod DIR615 for VLAN bridge. It will make it direct replace the DIR615 easily.

#  enabled - Drop packets with VLAN tag ID that is not present in VLAN table. Packets without VLAN tag are treat as tagged packets with Default VLAN ID
# strict - Same as enable, but also checks VLAN support for inbound interface (drop packets with VLAN tag ID and ingress port that are not present in VLAN table)

http://wiki.mikrotik.com/wiki/SwOS#VLAN_Tab

Is it that much of a difference between enable/strict :S? It's only going to be fed packets tagged with ID 500/600 since that's how the BTU is configured :3 I'll note in my guide that they can opt to switch the ports but 1 (BTU), 2 (IPTV), 3 (PPPoE) with 4/5 free for port mirroring, diagnosis, etc. seems more logical to me than to follow TMs style lol

Hi Riz,

I have been following your thread the last couple of days... I;m one of the initial Unifi subscribers that were fortunate enough to be given the 20mbps connection free for 3 months.

My beef with them lies in the areas listed below:-

1) Inconsistent Communications - the unifi centre called me once the trial period was over, asking if i would like to proceed with the service @ 20 mbps, I said I am only interested with continuing under the 10mbps package. So they said no issue, u are a trial subscriber, instead of the RM199, u just pay RM149 for the service. I said ok. So thought all is fine, till i receive the bill, still at 20mbps. When i called the hotline, they said have to go to TMPoint and also technician needs to come and come and physically make some adjustments on my PC. To which they eventually came over this morning.

2) Another gripe was that they had said come 1st July they will automatically terminate my Streamyx account and continue with Unifi. That certainly didn't happen. Had to go to TMpoint to get it sorted. I was very frustrated and even the lady whom i scolded over the phone said actually i'm a trial subscriber so no need to go through all this, just over the phone will do...

I truly don't know what incompetent loons they have in TM as in some areas they make progress and other areas backward steps.....

Just wanted to let u know my scenario...

Added on August 23, 2010, 6:00 pmBTW, my dlink wireless router, doesn't seem to use the same password from before, previously the username was admin and password was telekom... Doesn't seem like the case now.

Anyone has any ideas on what is a possible username and password combination?

Thanks...

TM's billing is always 'meh' at most. Anyway, try the user/pass combos on this site .

Anyone tried to connect homeplug straight off from the Huawei BTU? I want to relocate the router and stb elsewhere. So the other end of the homeplug would be connecting to the router. Let me know if this setup would also work.

I see all of the folks with homeplug only have theirs reaching to STB unit.

Should be possible.. Don't know what kind of performance you would get though.

Thanks Riz, this is really great news man! rclxms.gif

I followed your configuration, except I use LAN5 to connect the BTU and LAN4 to IPTV, now my setup as follow:

Huawei BTU[LAN1] ----> [WAN]Buffalo WHR-G300N(PPPoE profile+VLAN?.500 tagged)[LANs/WiFi] ----> Computers
Huawei BTU[LAN2] ----> [LAN5]RB250GS[LAN4] ----> IPTV STB

I now can pack the DIR-615 to store room liao!! tongue.gif

I'm just thinking, will the result improve if I just hook up both my router & IPTV directly to RB250GS and just maintain 1 single connection to Huawei BTU?
Huawei BTU[LAN1]----> [LAN5]RB250GS[LAN3] ----> Router(without tagging)
......................................................[LAN4] ----> IPTV STB

Better be careful man. I also had the same problem. TM didn't call me. I had to call them to get the package changed from Try & Buy -> VIP5. Then I received the bill still VIP20 bill. Then later a man came saying i asked to terminate my 20Mbps package. Then next bill I receive, they charge me penalty fee for early termination of the VIP20 = RM1300++ and next month VIP5 RM150. Not the discounted VIP5 even.

I seriously think the idiots running Unifi are either screwing people on purpose or seriously stupid.

And when you go to TM Point to resolve this, they will tell you TM Point can do nothing because their systems are separate. Asking you to call their Hotline. When you call their hotline, they will put you on hold for exactly 10 mins then either hang up or leave the phone receiver on the table.

It's actually a managed switch, can setup VLAN tagging nicely so you can just:

1. connect your current router, only change the PPPoE to your UniFi user ID & password;
2. no need any 3rd party firmware like dd-wrt/OpenWRT to flash your router in order to configure VLAN taggin;
3. no need to use that lousy DIR-615 from TM!!

I just got my Unifi service today. Installation was swift.

Currently setting up port forwarding but without success. Googled and noticed that Dlink 615 router is known to have port forwarding problems.

Prior to this i am using 3com wireless router and port forwarding without difficulty. I need port forwarding for security IP camera and remotely logging in to my pc.

Unfortunately after googling i can't seem to find concrete solution to the port forwarding problems. I am able to use the dyndns address locating to Dlink 615 router log in window but failed to port further to my IP cam and pc respectively.

Would certainly appreciate if there are solutions to this. Otherwise, my unifi service is going to be CACAT without the ability to remotely connect to IP camera.

appreciate helps given.

Thanks.

I'm not sure about 3Com & DIR-615, but I do faced similar problem trying to configure port forward for my IP camera on the following devices [stock firmware]:

Buffalo: WBMR-HP-GN [ADSL2+Router], WCR-GN, WHR-G300N & WHR-HP-G300N
ASUS: RT-N10 & RT-N12

I also use DynDNS, same thing it updated the WAN IP correctly but it just unable to connect the IP camera remotely..... I might have setup wrongly I guess.....

But once I flashed with dd-wrt, I can setup port forward and it works!
So it seem like it's not hardware specific, sound like the firmware.... rclxub.gif

thanks again to klseet and rizvanrp.

I also have shelf the DIR-615 G1 lulz!

I notice there are so much improvement on the STB data handing compare to the DIR-615 G1. Unless I'm wrong lol, but it seem that the respond on the on the data sync after a channel change so much improved.

I felt that with the IPTV too but I assumed it was just due to a firmware upgrade or something (since I haven't turned the STB on for a few months =x).

Exactly and well put newbie...

I will call the 1300 number and check again tmrw... But having said that I have an email from the peeps at Unifi indicating that I will be on the VIP10 plan as per the Registration Confirmation slip sent to me last week, and the tech that came this morning had that same piece of paper too... So keeping fingers crossed.

In regard to yr scenario, if they came ard saying u asked to terminate the 20mbps package and this wasn't the case, I would have F#$#@ them up royally... Trying to be funny... TM Point ppl just as clueless as ever.. *Malaysia Boreh*

ps. In regard to the link for getting into the dlink wireless router, no luck, I tried all combinations.. *GRR*
