Just had mine installed last saturday... weekend was good, come monday nighmare begins... DIR615 acting up. No connectivity and power and the internel LEDs in amber. Reset few times no joy. Logged a case today (morning). Now reboot the thing again... all green but then after 1 minute like hang... strangely iptv and phone is ok. Can't get any dhcp... wire connectivity only like 1 minute before it's like I said before freeze... sigh... felt wanna burn the DIR615 now...

Hand cramp already from numerous reboots! I just don't understand why everything else is good but they leave this one to torture the customer!

I saw some major cable works around my area these few days (around seapark/ss2 area) i hope its Unifi...

Just a question, can i still maintain my streamyx line on top having Unifi?, i might be want to use my streamyx dedicated to my gaming pc while unifi to share amongst family.
*
Yes - TM will be more than happy. Ultimately your choice, in fact I'm using Streamyx now as backup since my Unifi DLink RG seems to be unstable...

But again, you'll be having 5mbps speed minimum. More than enough for your game as well as family/friends I believe. One way to gauge, are you having issues with your current 1mbps streamyx - can play games and family/friends use the Net?

Why not a router that could do VLAN and try replace the DIR615 all together? I'm still looking for the router that could do that actually... don't mind to test, if it fails can just convert to become bridge router as per the guide...

It's like 1 replacement per week... damn, I'm losing my patience...

Hi everybody,
Subscribe to the VIP5 plan but have some nagging questions abt unit set-up. Is is possible to separate the fiberhome , DIR165 unit and the IPTV console from one another with long cables. If possible , what sort of cables is required?

The reason is i prefer  to have the  DIR165 unit in the room upstairs, wired to PC and cables to the rest. Ask UNIFI but they said technition would access on site visit which I believe it's too late by then to discuss set up.

From the forum, i read it's possible to use your old copper wiring for existing phone lines with with cable attachement to phone line socket, in order to reuse all your phone sockets. Is this abt right?

I hope some be able to help  elleviate my concerns  abt this.

I think the TM technician will not help you route all the different cables to different room. I believe their limit is just to take care of the fiber cable from external termination into your house to the ONU/FTH modem. They could however get you 3rd party contractor to advice/take up the additional cabling works which will incur additional cost. That's my understanding.

I think if you agree to engage the 3rd party, it will delay your installation as you need another site survey and laying up the cables.

Simple solution - if you want to extend your Cat5 cables, use homeplug (runs over power socket). Your phone line is already wireless via the DECT phone - you can add additional DECT phone (refer to manual for compatible model).

What I did was I keep everything in my home office. I extend iptv to my living room using homeplug. The phone I just put it in living room, only dock when charging. Thinking of homeplugging the WAN line to the RG so that I can have the RG in the living room and direct IPTV. But figure too messy. Why I want to do that? So that I can plug my WD Live direct to the LAN port of the RG also better coverage for the Wifi.

On the homeplug thingy, I spoke to some TM folks... they said that they are not supportive of the idea since it's very hard to guarantee performance. It depends a lot on wiring, noise, etc... that's why they've drop it from they're option. Previously you can actually purchase it from TM unifi team. I think the stance now is leave it to the owner to self support - which I think a fair deal.

Oh yeah, does the homeplug works on IPTV, as earlier today, that UNIFI sales mentioned that they are still testing it and is still unstable for proper tv viewing. Is this true as some of you have used it , i assume without problems.  notworthy.gif

I personally used it. Very good - no complaints. I think key is to limit sharing of power point (best to keep it on single point). Also doesn't play well with heavy electrical item. The plug at my living area, when I plug my vacuum next to it signal LED will go red (bad speed). After I'm done it's back to Green but somehow it's a 200mbps plug having said that iptv is 8mbps it might not even a concern. Seriously I don't find any degradation to the show.

To me the value of the RB250 GS over dlink RG is you got piece of mind that it should be available to serve you anytime. No doubt it may fail but just like my Belkin Streamyx router I know it'll be there unless there's a major storm! Unlike my experience with the 2 x dlink replacement... the last one I've purchased VOD and the thing kong out... since VOD is valid for 24 hours it's burnt! It's such a hassle to wait for few days then need to come back to host the technician, etc...

At the bottom of it I think RB250 GS and dlink passthru/bridge - are the same, probably RB250 GS is more stable and better performance. I'm currently on my 3rd Dlink and already using the bridge method. From what I see there are times when there's a delay in response... just don't know why. I'm seriously considering RB250 GS.

If you guys are serious to get the RB250GS from Solitan SG, I suggest to list down name here so can try to bulk nego with them, eg:

1. azri
2. xyz
3.....

If re-export out from SG to MY may be can even waive the 7% VAT, also can save shipping cost.  Anywhere, it's just an suggestion, you can still COD there if you want to.

add my name there... anyone kind enough do let me know... I have friends going there too maybe next week... if they can find one would be great but seems like it's outta stock.

also, anyone using ps3 know how to connect to the dir-615 router? because i cant connnect no matter how... it says obtaining an ip timeout..

Mine ok, last time I connect direct via wifi to the dlink. Nothing special, used the standard WPA2 security and disabled SSID broadcast. Played few times, downloaded updates... so far ok - but I'm not heavy gamer most of the times only play like 1 hour per day.

That's before my dlink got 'fried' tho. Now I'm on the third dlink (since Monday) and have moved to the bridge setup. My wLAN clients all connect through buffalo WHR-HP-300GN router (Buffalo ddwrt flashed). So far so good, in fact last night played TW Golf for an hour nothing unusual - I can load patch, check online stuff, etc.

I'm uaing BUFFALO WZR-HP-G300N, if you want ddwrt you can get an official version from Buffalo website. The installer (download) will guide you to install the Buffalo ddwrt version.

So far couple it with bridge mode, seems very good. Satisfied!

Guys, I have a serious problem here.
Yesterday I asked Unifi guys about the Free TM calls nationwide.
They said I will have a new phone number. What about my old number?

I called up operator today, he said that most of the subscribers give up their existing landline number.
If I insist to maintain my old number. I have to pay normal TM fixed line package which is RM38/month for mine.
SO what for having 2 package for only 1 purpose>
And I cant give up my old number, as I tendered that number almost 15 yrs ago.
And they can't shift my old number to Unifi package? Aren't they belong to same company? Although different wires. Just change the register in their system then!
*
Sorry to hear that man... unfortunately TM is not 100% customer centric nor driven. The argument is simple as yours but unfortunately we have to follow 'their' way. When I registered, they captured wrong address. I asked for a change, guess what they have to create a new order! I can't even get back my earlier choosen user name... phone number, etc... This is talking about a new, unregistered account... I could imagine how hard to change your number back to the old system icon_question.gif

I think it's a loosing battle. Like earlier said, you can either keep the 1st landline or continue streamyx.

HyppTV undergone some upgrade last night. It supposed to start at 1am... but around midnite it went off already! Can't even stick to service time! How can compete with Astro? Astro upgrade when STB on standby, HypTV STB - don't care shit! What if you bought VOD? After 24 hours lapse for nothing - how to claim? Sighhh... heartache la.

Faizal Tahir the artist was so furious with Unifi. I follow him on tweeter and he's so pissed with Unifi. So sad man... Unifi could be the next best thing.

Ok laaa time to buka puasa, empty stomach make me emo! hahaha

look forward to updates in regard to using a fax, also does anyone know if I can switch the DECT phone provided by TM to those expandable DECT phones by Panasonic? currently using 3 lines and was intending to reduce the lines... tongue.gif

Should be able to. Infact what I got is a Panasonic DECT phone as part of the bundle. I think it's just a simple normal phone. I bet plugging normal phone will also work so anything should work.

I think the manual says you can plug any network device... have you checked the link whether it's green/red? Haven't really tried myself... can give it a shot but dunno when since already tidy up my equipment over the weekend.

The router issue if you care to search has been revisited so many times. Please back track this thread.

If you can't access your wifi after restarting your unifi equipment especially the dlink box then it's very likely your RG are toasted! Even more so if you consistently get the Orange Globe of Death!

Solution are a few...
1. Flash the dlink with ddwrt - lost iptv
2. Use the dlink as a vlan switch with your own router - all should work
3. Use a manage switch in between - one area where a lot of interest in the mikrotik board (but no source to purchase yet!)

On the common question:
1. Can I re-use old number - No
2. Are there penalty upgrade from Streamyx to Unifi - No
3. Installation time - please call and set your appointment. I have done it on Saturday... I doubt they'll do on Sunday...

Please search the forum. Information are plenty...
