Here are more overseas transactions, purpose is to determine which card charges lower fees. As you will observe the fees charged for the same card varies and this may be due to the exchange rate.

AMEX Charge Card and CC versus Alliance based on Transaction Date, you will notice that AMEX rate not constant at 2.5%
Transaction Date, Card, USD, RM, RATE, FOREX, Ratio
12 Aug 09, AMEX, 29.58, 105.51, 3.56693712, 3.51186, 1.015683176 = 1.57%
12 Aug 09, AMEX, 49.11, 176.83, 3.600692323, 3.51186, 1.02529495 = 2.53%
12 Aug 09, AMEX Gold CC, 83.19, 298.56, 3.588892896, 3.51186, 1.02193507 = 2.19%
12 Aug 09, Alliance, 144.48, 516.17, 3.572605205, 3.51186, 1.01729716 = 1.17%

UOB Debit Card Cash Withdrawal versus Alliance. UOB exchange rate 1 for 1 BUT they charge RM12 per withdrawal and as such the percentage for the withdrawal fees came out to be 1.7% for USD200 at exchange rate of 3.51. If I were to withdraw more and RM strenghten, then this percentage would drop.

Transaction Date, Card, USD, RM, RATE, FOREX, Ratio
15 Aug 09, UOB Debit, 200, 702.1, 3.5105, 3.52167, 0.996828209 = 0%
16 Aug 09, UOB Debit, 200, 701.9, 3.5095, 3.52078, 0.996796164 = 0%
16 Aug 09, Alliance, 324.93, 1156.21, 3.558335642, 3.52078, 1.010666853 = 1.07%

MBB Petronas Visa Versus Alliance based on Posting Date. MBB fees lower than Alliance.

Posting Date, Card, USD, RM, RATE, FOREX, Ratio
13 Aug 09, MBB Pet, 64.15, 227.66, 3.548869836, 3.53216, 1.00473077 = 0.47%
13 Aug 09, Alliance, 68.03, 242.02, 3.557548141, 3.53216, 1.00718771 = 0.72%
13 Aug 09, Alliance, 208.49, 741.72, 3.557580699, 3.53216, 1.007196927= 0.72%

MBB Petronas Gold Visa Versus Alliance Plat Versus Direct Access Visa Infinite based on Posting Date. MBB fees again lower than Alliance. However MBB reward points only 1X.

DA VI rate is higher than Alliance, however DA VI gives you 1% cash back but no points whereas Alliance gives 2X reward points.

Posting Date, Card, USD, RM, RATE, FOREX, Ratio
20 Aug 09, MBB Pet, 37.84, 135.82, 3.589323467, 3.5491, 1.011333427 = 1.13%
20 Aug 09, Alliance, 183.8, 661.34, 3.598150163, 3.5491, 1.013820451 = 1.38%
20 Aug 09, Alliance, 84.32, 303.39, 3.598078748, 3.5491, 1.013800329 = 1.38%
20 Aug 09, Alliance, 64.13, 230.75, 3.598159988, 3.5491, 1.013823219 = 1.38%
20 Aug 09, DA VI, 40.74, 147.35, 3.616838488, 3.5491, 1.019086103 = 1.91%
20 Aug 09, DA VI, 49.26, 178.13, 3.616118555, 3.5491, 1.018883253 = 1.89%

Here's a comparison between MBB and Alliance where transactions were in Singapore

Posting Date, Card, SG, RM, RATE, FOREX, RATIO
23 Aug 09, MBB Pet, 76.51, 189.76, 2.480198667, 2.47581. 1.001772619 = 0.18%
23 Aug 09 Alliance, 40.00, 99.45, 2.48625, 2.47581, 1.004216802 = 0.42%

Conclusion - MBB Petronas Card Lowest Fees for Overseas Transactions. But Alliance have 2X rewards points and cash back.

Not quite right. smile.gif Although MBB acquired Amex business in Malaysia, products offered by both entities are very much different. As such, there are big disparities in their features like interest rates of installment plan and balance transfer as well as participating merchants.

On the other hand, DA is fully owned by CIMB and both offer pretty standard features especially rates and promotions from time to time.

Thanks again for your effort in updating us on forex rates. I'm surprised that MBB Petronas card could stand out in the crowd this time around, even though we are aware that MBB imposes a 0.5% admin charge on overseas spending vs Alliance who always claim to have zero charge on overseas transactions.

My CCs were just being fraud 3 days ago to make a total of 5 payments to Astro with a total amount of RM1000. Happened to 2 different CCs one had 3 transactions for maybank CC and another one had 2 for public bank CC so its just a reminder for everyone to make sure the safety of their CCs.

Please keep yourself updated with the transactions going on your Credit Card frequently so you can inform the bank immediately if there is any suspicious transactions.

I wonder why that person only fraud to make payments for Astro though and it happened to 2 different CCs on the same day. My cards have always been safe with me.

Hi, I'm wondering if anyone holding CIMB Direct Access cards can help me on this.

I'm thinking of applying for a CIMB Direct access Mastercard (the one that is for Professionals, not for Graduates). But I have a question: Is it still true that DA cards cannot be used for internet purchases? (Or has that changed since the SBB days?)

According to their website, DA lists "Virtual MasterCard" under the "Benefits" for the cc for for Graduates, but it doesn't list it under the ones for Professionals.

And yet, I notice there's a link for Secure e-Pay on the CIMB Direct Access website. So I'm very confused. Do we register the "Virtual MasterCard" with Secure e-Pay or what? If it's already "virtual", why the need to register?

any recommendations?

DA Virtual Mastercard had been discontinued.
We can now use the DA Visa / Mastercard for Internet purchases via websites with Verfied by Visa or MasterCard SecureCode

Guys, what's the meaning of 'Claw Back Int'?
It appears on my statement as 'Claw Back Int for Pymnt is 7.29'
I'm sure 'Int' is interest and 'Pymnt' is payment..

@MilesAndMore : Think he means certain brands of petrol can't detect the Amex, like Petronas

@cannavaro : claw back generally means reversal. not too sure what it means in your case without more details.

Please note that Alliance's cash back is limited to RM5000 spending. No cash back above that figure.

DA petrol rebate ends 31-Dec-09. RHB's Travel Money ends 30-Sep-09.

AFAIK, only AMEX Gold CC gives 5x reward for petrol (equivalent to 2.5% cash back) with no time limit. A major reason why I applied for one and got it in 2 weeks.
