I'm thinking of applying a credit card from CIMB. Any idea which is better, the current CIMB free-for-life credit card or Direct access?
I should meet the requirement for a classic card for both - just wondering which to apply.
*
Both also have the same function...

Latest Promo Direct Access  0% BT for 6 months for EXISTING and new cardmembers.

http://www.directaccess.com.my/index.php?c...085&tpt=cimb_da

Terms and condition:

No interest will be chargeable on the Approved Balance or such outstanding thereof until
the first day of the seventh month from the date of the Approved Balance transaction
is posted to cardmember’s Direct Access credit card account;

The cardmember will have to make a monthly minimum payment of 5% of the Approved
Balance

There is no mention of surcharge or handling fees, this is truly "FREE" credit. This is good.

As I did mentioned in another threat, with the reintroduction of RM50 tax for CC, banks will offer more benefits to card members to ensure they keep the cards.

This is good...I can transfer my AMEX outstanding, which need to settle by 31st December to DA and put the money in FD...hmmmm

You should understand the T&Cs thoroughly before subscribing the installment plan. Similiar situation and many other problems also happen to easy payment scheme, balance transfer and personal loan. If you do not have enough money to pay, then do not make the purchase in the first place. I have never trusted those schemes!
*
I would say it depends on situation...You have the money and wants to invest elsewhere to generate more revenue...tongue.gif

If you CAN tell me an investment giving a guaranteed return which is higher than the interest charged by banks, I would be the first person to invest. However, there is no such investment in reality and no such thing as free lunch.
Yes, its rebate rate is higher than SCB Business Plat cc. However, 1% rebate is not good enough as compared to SCB JustOne, Amex Gold cc as well as Alliance Plat and Younique. Besides, you will not be getting any reward points from this card.

Anyway, this card is still better than HLB Visa Essential which only gives rebate for purchases based on denomination of RM100.
Unfortunately, it will still be treated as advance payment or prepayment. Most of the banks will impose heavy prepayment penalty on your installment plan.

bank interest is zero...tongue.gif

i check the you nique website, like rocket science, got tier. so u spend 2k for example, some go tier 1, leftover to tier 2 then the next tier so on. means we wont get 2% rebate on all charge.
nothing bad will happen right if i always pay on time?

thanks you so much for pointing out to me the pros and cons. really i cant thank you enough. btw, my pay goes into hsbc.. which is not so good cos penang island only 2 brnaches if im not wrong which is near jetty and queensbay. thaht's one of the reasons im asking so much about hsbc rebate plan.

Im new and this may sound funny. i use cheque book need spend $ also right? can i online pay lets say alliance bank CC bill using hsbc on9 payment?
Rm200,000 on petrol? you must be kidding.. better dont make a plan when no 1 will be able to benefit from it. anyway, ive read shomewhere cash rebate when one of the requirement is to have a balance( owing bank).. which is actually even worse.

tempted to wait until next year as well. well, maybe ill further list a break down so u $$$ sifus can analyze.

petrol around 1000
dining and so on 500
hotel misc stuff 500
shopping with mum maybe 300 a month.

anyway, i dont even have 3 months pay slip so im holding out till next year i guess. what are the chances of getting a card if i dont have 3 months? i got 2 months btw..

You pay on time...No worries.

But it's been a few months right ? And only 500 Longines watch are available ...
I did not say because it is easier due to the lower AMEX users compared to VISA/Mastercard  rolleyes.gif  Not exactly a big spender myself but even i managed to snap some in the past. Many here also got the IPod last time.

Yes. The result only will be know on 28th Feb 2010. sad.gif

if your plan is to get a CC only for the BT...then go ahead and apply. But I thought we could do a BT at anytime with other cards? I remember seeing this somewhere.
wow...what kind of amount you have that needs 18-24 months repayment?? Cancel your MBB Visa and Amex since it doesn't have any outstanding. I agree with your last sentence...cancel off all your cards and use a debit card. Maybe keep 1 CC in case of emergencies but EMERGENCIES ONLY! Get something with a very very low credit limit. Do not go for those with "unlimited CL"...Amex is doing this promotion.
*
Direct Access enable BT for existing and new customers without any hidden charges for 0% interest for forst 6 months.
