yes, some of us have extras for balance transfer, rebates and emergencies. Kinda difficult now to have "all-in-1"...or to pick one amongst the many types.

I am going to keep some cards for a while to see the bank's responses...maybe they'll give some better offers to upset this 'service tax'

QUOTE(Scissorshand @ Oct 24 2009, 03:09 PM) The bank will eventually waived or absorb these charges in order to retained the cardholders especially those prompt payees. But those whom prefer to drag and pay the min, don't expect the banks to waived these service tax RM50 for principal and RM25 for supplementary card respectively. from what I hear, banks will...with high probability...rebate the service tax to keep you as a customer. Something like the current version of calling banks to waive annual fee.In addition, if the banks are not allow to waived these service tax of cards, the banks will or may even resort to providing higher shopping or fuel vouchers to cardholders and maybe alternatively, they can also provide/compensate with additional reward points. But then again, the how many cardholders actually redeem those points on yearly basis with the exception of those high spenders. By doing they are still abiding by the Goverment directives and should be able to get away with this. However, i would think only a small percentage whom will need to pay and they are tied to the banks. But majority will get away with paying these service tax of the cards hold. I'd personally think this service tax imposed may not reduce the unnecessary spending or even encourage prudent spending as there'll be leeway for cardmembers to get away from paying this as the banks will always have alternative solution unless, the Goverment with Bank Negara, introduce a guideline to prohibit banks on waiving the service tax thru whatsoever innovative methods. An example, new cardholders of StandChart Platinum do not need to pay annual fees and are even provided with RM100 credit upon successful approval. So what is RM50 service tax charge. |

QUOTE(MilesAndMore @ Oct 24 2009, 05:02 PM) As Hye said yesterday. This credit card service fee is nothing new. Did the banks waive the service fee back in 1997 - 2001 ? If they didn't, are they going to waive it this time around ? If they waive it for everyone it is going to cost a bomb to the bank. times are changing dude. The possibility is there...CCs have changed a lot since 1997. |

not sure how true is this...but I heard a Maybank staff telling another guy that the RM50 service tax is supposed to be effective January 2010. But MBB won't charge yet until they've made a decision on how to offset this tax for their customers...maybe in Dec.

QUOTE(vin_ann @ Oct 29 2009, 09:02 AM) oh shit, read another news on The Star paper, 1 minister saying if banks are to absord the RM50 charges, the prudent spending objectives by Najib is defeated. actually what he said is true...WTF... so in the end, best solution is to cancel our cards. I can't cancel some coz got installment on them. I wonder if I can just apply to pay them full so that I can cancel the cards? |

QUOTE(allwerp @ Nov 17 2009, 04:26 AM) hi..i am in a dilemma now... weird...I hear some banks will inform you if two transactions were made on the same place at roughly the same time. I forgotten about it but there was a case on this. Prevents cashiers doing things like you just mentioned.i patronized One Republic Bar(Italiannies) in Sunway Pyramid the other day...i paid with my CIMB DA World MC for a bottle of red wine..i checked my transactions online today and i found out that there's actually an extra transaction which does not belong to me..i suspect that the waiter that attended to me swiped my card for an 'extra' transaction after i gave him my card to pay the bill.... p/s : the waiter must have had an customer who paid cash and he put the money into his own pocket..he swiped my card so that the account book tallies....what an ***hole..... QUOTE(winner @ Nov 17 2009, 09:09 AM) nope, and they shouldn't coz they're getting back the same amount anyway...0% interest. |

I just remembered...that case had some kinda large figure involved. Maybe that's why...I'm sure some banks will call or block if a weird transaction is being conducted.
For me, I kena before at the petrol pump...I cancelled the transaction at the pump coz I forgot to use my bonuslink card. The second time around...it did not accept the card and I had to use another credit card. |
