i was just posting a question here, looking for a guide from anyone less hostile. Thanks for calling me thickheaded though. That makes me respect u less

Added on November 20, 2009, 11:16 amif i'd have access to scale, would i even go google for "how to calculate body fat" ? Thats pretty clear isnt it?

he's not being hostile, he;s just being brutally honest. No one likes honesty , everyone likes to lie themselves aka rationalizing. Look at your picture, you have no visible abs outline and hence 13% is well ... ludicrous

few ways to measure body fat if you really want to know

1. using calipers - jackson/pollock 3,4 or 7 site method.

2. using bod pods/dexa scan

3. some weird device that puts u in chamber filled with water can't recall the name cause I don't need to know.

as i mentioned before, what if you know your BF% = 17.53212312% , will you do anything any different ?. You need a sound nutrition plan and training routine not worrying bout the exact figures of your BF% cause no matter what the numbers are, you have a long way more to go buddy.

keep pushin on david. good luck

just a note.

i get mine:

Body Mass Index:      24.1  kg/m2
Waist-to-Height ratio:    0.52
Percent Body Fat:    15.9%
Lean Body Mass:    136.9 lb

all this while i thought my bodyfatt was around 22%+~~

wondering how to get the exact figure~~ hmm.gif
*
now this one looks more realistic to me:

Body Mass Index: 24.1 kg/m2
Waist-to-Height ratio: 0.50
Percent Body Fat: 20.7%
Lean Body Mass: 129.2 lb

for me bf% is for your goal. When you reach your goal, then set a new goal. A better goal that is.

Something for you guys to read about soya protein.

http://www.boingboing.net/2009/11/20/taste-test-natto.html

In Japan, we eat soy all the time. For breakfast we have rice with natto and miso soup with tofu; for dinner we pop edamame into our mouths in between chopsticks-full of vegetables sauteed in soy sauce. I always assumed it was good for you, until I came to California and my health-conscious American friend told me that soy was actually really bad for you. So which is it?

Here's what we know about soy: unprocessed, it's a great source of digestible protein and has tons of vitamin B, calcium, and folate — all things that are good for you. It also contains isoflavones, and here's where things get tricky. Some studies prove that isoflavones are beneficial, while others have shown that it promotes breast and prostate cancer. Soy has also been called out as an agent of brain cell aging and thyroid dysfunction, too.

In her recent book The Jungle Effect, San Francisco-based physician Daphne Miller — who studied low cancer rates in Okinawa extensively — writes:
While Okinawans take in over 80 percent of their soy in a relatively unprocessed form as tofu, edamame, soy flour, soy milk, or miso, people in the United States eat a similiar percentage of their soy in a processed form. Our soy foods are heated, mashed, and denatured to create a vast array of substances ranging from Tofurky to fillers for tuna fish to ice-cream sandwiches... while whole foods offer valuable protection, concentrated or denatured derivatives of these foods are having the opposite effect.

The bottom line, at least for now, seems to be that good soy prevent cancer and bad soy might promote cancer. Good soy = tofu, soy sauce, miso, natto, edamame. Bad soy = soy protein powder, energy bars made with soy, fake hot dogs, tofurky.

A lot of Western people think natto — fermented soy bean — is gross because of it's gooey texture and stinky smell, but it's one of my favorite things to eat for breakfast. It's filled with protein and great for a post-workout snack, too. If you're still iffy about it, why not combine the foreign with the familiar and cook some natto spaghetti? The slippery texture of the pasta cuts the gooeyness a little, and in my opinion this is a gentle way to ease natto into your culinary life.

Every installment of Taste Test will explore recipes, the science, and some history behind a specific food item.

I have the exact same injury, except mine was from deadlifts. You should see a doctor just to be sure.

• no stretching
• too heavy for you ?
• wrong posture

I got an x-ray and he confirmed that I had damaged a muscle/ligament in my lower back. I got a few painkillers but they don't do much good. Been injured for nearly 3 months now. Can't do any lower body work because anything that puts my body in a squatting position or arches/curls my back to a certain degree causes a sharp pain in my lower back which goes down to the pelvic area.

dudes. need some help here. i'm an avid downhiller/mountain biker.

i'm quite skinny, around 52KGs with a height of 173CM?

i have no problems building muscles on my biceps, triceps, back or stomach but i'm having problems building up the chest region. i eat a lot, as in lots of protein and carbs. workout at least 3 times a week.

oh, and i can't afford gyms. i usually do lot's of pushups and pull-ups. i realised that the sides of my chest grows but not the mid section. :l

any tips for me? thanks. (:

take a rest, and go buy a tennis ball, try to roll it around your glute area, google the Tennis ball trigger point
see whether it helps or not?

you mean the sternum ?? anyway, just do variations on your push ups...wide/narrow stance, millitary...if afford, buy a pair of db, and do flys and press..that should do it...

where exactly is the pain projecting ? The lumbar spine or thoracic region ? what did the doctor said ? lordotic or kyphotic curve ? I m no expert but x-ray is to diagnose the problem . You need a proper physiotherapist to get you back on track. painkillers is just gonna make matters worse, get to the root of the problem, rehab , start light. it's better to take two steps back now for long term progress instead of getting an injury and can't lift forever.

I highly suggest you pick up stuart mc gill's lower back disorder book , very "sciency" but contains tons of info.

seriously, the glute and the lower back may be part of the posterior chain. but giving suggestion without knowing where exactly is he injured, imho is dangerous.
