Tips to Improve Engine Performance

Minor mod (increase acceleration)
1. Remove air filter. (Penang people can find me, FOC)
2. Reset carburetor air-fuel setting. (Penang people can find me, FOC)
3. Set valve tapette to 10 IN and 15 OUT. - RM30 labour charge @ New Bee Hock motor, Penang.
4. Change to 15-40 with 415 chain. - RM100

After changing racing CDI >> top speed for 4th gear can add about 10 - 20kph.

*Note* The above data is an estimation of potential top speed for each gear, and may vary from bike to bike.


Carburetor General Tuning Guideline:

A. Change the idle air-fuel mixture setting 1st.
B. If still not satisfied, change the needle position.
C. If none of the needle position is good, change the jettings.


A. Idle air-fuel mixture settings
1. Air screw set at about 2.5 turns for stock airflow. Modified exhaust + air filterless can use 2 turns.
2. Idle rpm increase a little more than normal.

B. Needle setting
1. There are 3 ticks on the needle jet.
2. The lowest tick will give us good FC, as it limits more petrol to flow from mainjet @ half throttle
3. The highest tick will give us bad FC, as it let more petrol flows from mainjet @ half throttle.

However, highest tick does not mean best acceleration. If too much petrol flows into the venturi, the mixture will become too rich. This will decrease the power at high rpm. So, try different needle clip position and feel which one has the best results.

C. Jet size setting
1. Change mainjet to #107.5 (stock #105)
2. Change pilotjet to #22.5 (stock #20). If there is no performance increase, then stick back to #20.
3. Change mainjet to #110 + pilotjet #22.5. <-- this should be a good pair.

Anything more than #110 mainjet will make the engine feels heavy, bcoz the mixture becomes too rich.


Disc Brake Tuning Meteorology

The theory covers the relationship between the total areas of the brake pots (Note, its area not count), brake pads, masterpump, the rigidity of the brake hose and the property of the brake pads. The point of improvement is to look for the limit of the system and upgrade it.

1. Single pot is less prone to uneven brake force compared to multiple pots when in case one of the pot jams.

2. Changing the brake rotor is a start. But if you do not see improvements, that means rotor is not the limitation, and you need to change other things to do a stopee (Nose brake).

3. Change brake hose to steel braided, so it is less likely to expand and eat up the brake budget. Try this, wrap ur hands around standard brake hose, and press the brake you will feel it expand. Anymore you press also won't increase braking performance.

4. Change to DOT5 brake oil (normal 1 can, but easily overheat. I go hill run for >1 hr, DOT5 is mandatory)

5. Change brake pads, I use Ferodo imported by Racing Boy. Ask for original ones, one set front about RM30~40. You can see more copper strands on the pads. Other good pads use metal strands so u can see silverly metal strands.

6. Must stiffen front fork absorber, and add a stabilizer bar. Use 15W-20 fork oil, make it about 25% stiffer than stock. 20W-50 fork oil is too stiff bcoz the oil is too not lean enuf, the bound and rebound SUX, I feel like riding on a horse. The traction sux too, bcoz front tyre can hardly grip on the road when going through uneven road (esp penang road).

7. Use ABS device (about RM100) <-- optional

Cos that Nob1 SSS pipe too quiet.... Police dont even wanna to saman me for using that pipe And btw i just bought another pipe from samba and the pipe more loud and sound more like Superbike Btw after i put samba pipe I kena 2 time blocking. 1st blocking normal police infront my house but i escaped and have to wait untill 12AM than only can go back home. 2nd time kena blocking by police traffic, this time i just come out from my office they stop me i never even try to escaped coz i cant i was surprised he ask me license, IC, Road Tax, and he say nice pipe where u buy it. i say " I buy from Indonesia" coz i tell him i alway travel there. Here cannot find this kinda pipe than i tell him i work at travel agency nextime if u want fly u come find me i give u discount we chat for awhile than he let me go ler

just yesterday i was stopped at a road block, then another bike just zoomed past without helmet. police just let them past... bullies i tell you.

I've been asked twice by police about my bike, and they commented it's well restored. They'd even let me go once because I forgot to put number plate on new windscreen. Thank him.

Twice, i saw road block with a trooper and 3~4 Kips standby. this roadblock don't play2, if lucky can see some action like on TV3 one...

For aftermarket mods leh, i think only puspakom don't approve. I think as long as we all ride safe, don't rempit, the police also won't go out and penalize us lah.

LoL shark and Dolphin is Taiwan brand don't really think that is count as original our original blocks is Diasil the biggest size so far is the blocks from yamaha FZ150I or Vixion it is 57mm if not mistaken. I Think the block could be fitted on our bike if not mistaken as well Or can try this block

Dont stingy laa take to the mechanic u trust ask them adjust for you i think they wont charge u anything. They more experience than u.... if you adjust wrongly later ur bike wont run smoothly and spoilt your bike only

If you've installed the Keihin 28mm, dont use the standard Airbox. take it out. you can use the UMA RACING mushroom air filter costing around RM65.00

try it and review to us here how it feels.

okay, Yamaha did not produce 60mm block for LC. other than Shark and Dolphin, try to look for MDS Brand. I'm using the MDS Brand and a lot of my friend also use this Block. if they are installed properly, its a good block.

so far it feels much better then with filter box

its okay, as long as you have an airfilter, it should be all right. do you know what pilot and mainjet settings you're using on your bike ? care to tell us ?

Removing air filter is fine.

The position of the carburetor intake can hardly allow big particles to get into the engine.

Remove the airbox is even better, with one drawback - noisy.

i use the standard from factory pilot jet n main jet.....
any suggestion for the jets??

You use #20 PJ and @105MJ in your 28mm Keihin?

I was just thinking, changing to bigger piston/block, are you guys still using stock head, or there is one matching the new block?
If no change head, I guess that's why some of you are hearing 'weird' sounds from the engine, especially if skim block and racing gasket some more...

lol, you remove the end cover along with the silencer inside?
hows the sound? last time my friend also did like this,
and the sound is foookinggg loud, same par as AHM one I think

I am currently using the 60mm kit with S6 racing cam. and previously, I also use 22/19 head. This head is kicking good, but eventually the timing chain tensioner spring was broken, it damages my cam bearing (all the ball bearing come out), then 1 of 4 of the valve broke which causes a hole in the piston face and also damages the head chamber. a modified head (22/19) will cost around RM600. if you really want to change, please keep your original head in all good condition. you may want to use them back later...

I think the weird sound you're talking about is coming from either the valve tappet, or the head knocking. just bring to the shop and ask for TOP HEAD service and see if that works. it has works for most of my friend.

I'm from KL, and work in Cyberjaya, so Salak Tinggi is not that far from my working area... and I have a friend who lives there too..
the Block set that I bought is okay, it fits right in, but here, we do a little modifications to the coolant flow so that the coolant will recycle through the block and the radiator. I'll show you guys some pictures when I have a chance to snap them later. its really a simple mods but good for big bores and long distance traveller like me.

I bought the block set for RM125.00 not including the coolant mods. well... it the block did not make any weird sounds, its very quiet. and that really depends on who installs it and is it installed properly.
