Oh, I just remembered. Did anybody encountered this with their bib number? The behind almost gone when I finished the run.
Good thing I wear that shirt solely for running and also, a very nice marking to remind me where I should put bib number during any event. |

It's 2:07 am on my pc clock! I've been twisting and turning for 2 hours and I still can't sleep. Le sigh. Still feeling the post-energizer muscle pain and strain. So I figured that I'll just write my Energizer Race report to share with you all and HOPEFULLY after that, I'll be able to doze off.
Here goes : chip time : 2:29:13.08; gun time : 2:36:54.06 position : 327 On the day of the race, I only made up my mind to participate 2 hours before my half marathon starts. Why? Well, first of all I haven't been running for a week b/c I was resting my injured right foot. Heck, I even wanted to sell the bib a week before but then I remembered that I dragged a friend along in this race and I can't abandon her, and on top of that, this is supposed to be my maiden half marathon attempt...the heck with insufficient training, the heck with hot weather...I'm running! It was blood and guts for me that night! I left home at 7pm from Ampang area. Arrived there freaking late. Parked my car about 100 m from the starting line and officially started my race at 8:07 pm. No time for stretching for me.....which later proved to be a bad idea. I ran at a slow, comfortable pace for the first 2 kilometers until it happened. I felt some discomfort between my toes on my left foot. "It's the damned blisters again...always happens," I thought to myself. Like come on! It's only 2 km. I have 19 km to go for God's sake! I managed to ignore it...only lasted 1 km though. I had to stop and do something. Well, I did. I took off the socks on my left foot only. It felt better but the blisters were always there. I managed to fight it off until the 13 km mark. I can't hold on much longer with the pain. I stopped at a water station and asked the kind medic to put two band-aids on those 2 toes. He had to cut off the blisters first which was not that painful, much to my surprise. I felt much, much better but I knew that it's not gonna last. It will still rub against the inside of the shoe. It did. The band-aid peeled off. It made the blisters worse actually. This happened at the 15 km mark. 6 km to go! Throughout those 15 km, I didn't bother to check the time, b/c I know my timing was gonna be terrible from the get-go. Part of me really, really wanted to walk to the finish line from then onwards, but my better half got hold of my senses and I realized if I was to walk 6 km, I'd reach the finish line close to midnight! Heck no! So what did I do??? I ran barefooted! (I gloved the shoes on my hands lol) To tell you the truth, I have no freakin' idea how someone out there can even consider running barefoot for a full-marathon.....it's freakin painful!!! And they're saying that's the way to go? Shisshh! Running barefoot for the first time in a race, it was far from pleasant I can tell you that. First of all, I can't run at my usual pace and style anymore b/c I run using the POSE technique. I can't do that barefoot which is an irony really. They preach to us that barefoot running promotes oneself to run POSE technique as they say that is the natural form of running and the most efficient. I do believe that POSE technique is the most efficient but running barefoot on tarmac using the technique means that you land with less surface area = more pressure = more pain!!! So that being said, I ran landing on the heels, barefooted onwards. My pace was about 6km/hr.....it gets slower and slower. I had to find a way to lessen the pain while still going on. I did. I utilized the white paint at the edge of the road. I landed on the white paint which helped me go on for 3 km or so. But my test grew greater after that. I ran through a truck spraying water, and everytime I stop at a water station, the surface near it are all wet. Add that to barefoot running...blisters! Yes! I accumulated 6 blisters in 6 different places altogether. To cut the damn story short, I ended the race with one foot wearing a shoe, and one not (don't ask me why) and short cramp upon reaching the finish line. I had to band-aid my entire feet at the medical station. 3 or 4 people that chatted with me asked me to use petroleum jelly or anti-chafing products. Lessons : 1. Have sufficient training 2. Stretch before and after runs 3. Come early! 4. Use petroleum jelly or vaselin??? I've never used these guys.....how to use them and when and where to apply? 5. Respect the distance!!! Yes!!! It worked! My head feels heavier now and I feel super sleepy! Goodnight =) This post has been edited by shahwan86: Mar 30 2010, 03:01 AM |

shahwan, if you get blisters easily you might want to consider getting one of those non-friction running socks one of the taikors here is selling.

QUOTE(tenno @ Mar 29 2010, 05:55 PM) Now U can buy one of those marathon tshirts Choi is selling. The one that says."The pain is temporary but the pride is forever". Hi bro tenno, how was ur run on half mara, smooth running? I thought I parked at P7 but it was actually opposite P7. It was at the Cyberjaya bus terminal, it wasn't even a designated car parks. But quite a lot of runners parked there. My next half shud be the SCKLM, unless Klang Pacers have their Setia Alam half first la. In between there's the NB 15K, Larian Bomba... maybe Pesta Sukan MOF ... btw, can v join the pesta MOF run? |

Just get Injinji toe socks (anti-blister) from me. For chafing get a bottle of SportShield or BodyGlide from me too. That will solve your blister and chafing problem This post has been edited by ccube: Mar 30 2010, 12:18 PM |

QUOTE(Syd G @ Mar 30 2010, 12:46 PM) Yes BodyGlide or SportShield will stop chafing at any part of your body. 2XU compression wont guarantee there is no chafing but some of my customers told me it does help. 2XU main purpose is control muscle movement during run hence reduce the production of lactic acid, and also post race muscle fatigue recovery.Added on March 30, 2010, 1:13 pm QUOTE(elgato @ Mar 30 2010, 01:04 PM) Like elgato said, just applied to all your hot spots. i apply on my whole feet and toes during my Putra 12 hr walk and wore an INJINJI. No blisters at all. I personally felt that SportShield is better and last longer. Your sweat doesnt wash it away. You gotta wash it with soap during your shower. My Tri customer told me it can last at least 13+hrs This post has been edited by ccube: Mar 30 2010, 01:13 PM |
