Ok the tournament will start on 28th Saturday around 1 to 2 pm ...however, contestant is needed to report themself or to those have registered and not pay ...pay up ...in the same time, we will allow friendly matches among friends....this is to warm up and get use to the crowded area so everyone will feel comfortable during real fights...

It will end late evening for both days.

To those who stay pretty far away, not to worry, we will document the tournament and will post it up on our website soon or at you tube. We will make sure we cover the story for you guys and if can, DO DROP BY or FLY In from The east...take part....and win it, It will be hell of a story.

Hmm...hands itchy now...feel like shoryuken someone as we speak.

No worries...short cut for 3 kicks and 3 punches is allow....as the design of the joypad is meant to have those buttons...but if its like a single button for super combo...then not allow ....

You can adjust the control as long as you dont set it as one button release the super move. ( if there is that option I mean ) Other than that...shouldnt be any issue.

OK GUYS !!!

I allow JOY STICK for the tournament...TO those who have JOYSTICK for ps3...you may bring it for your own controls. I think its fair as the game was release in Ps3 and I think if you are good, there is no different fighting with a joystick or a joy pad.

Organiser will not stop those who bring their Joystick...you are allow to use as JOYSTICK IS THE KEY TO LEGENDARY STREET FIGHTER ..

Also, if you guys can bring your Joystick...we might need to borrow. ok?

Alan

Added on February 16, 2009, 6:08 pmLatest Update,

That's right guys: even if you don't win, you still get the movie tickets to the new Street Fighter: Legend of Kristen Kreuk (tongue.gif) as well as other goodies. Since a movie ticket usually costs around RM10, you'll technically only paying RM5 for the registration.

Guys! It's really a good deal:

1) You can play casual matches there too
2) You can see how good players bring the best out of the character
3) You can witness different styles of play, from the most cheap, to the most tactical
4) You get to share / receive tips on how to improve your game
5) You get 2 tickets for the new movie to boot, and many more

You don't have to win to have fun!

(I'm talking as if I'm organizing it myself.. hoho!!)

whats the goodies? i hope something exclusive if not i won't join. I never played SF4 before. And i never touch streetfighter for a long time except for Marvel Vs Capcom 2 and Capcom vs SNK 2 and i suck. I haven't buy and play SF4(even the arcade one). I was hoping if they got some special deal for the ps3 one there.

if i can shout all kinds of foul language, then i don't mind paying to be owned by a pro but then the rules says you can't. anyway, i think it's not fair to have players who have sticks fight with players who only have DS3. the guy with the stick will have a major unfair advantage over the guy with DS3 because we all know its so much easier to perform combos with a stick then with the DS3.
if i have nothing to do, i will drop by just to watch and the match.

I wanna join the tournament for fun too, but I gotta make sure that trip there would make it worth my while. Paying RM25 to get whooped in public isn't really a nice thing tongue.gif How about if alanmukkl specifies what the goodie bags will minimally contain thumbup.gif

Forget the the NOOB achievement as well... almost the same thing like Khir Toyo's 'penyapu' award laugh.gif

Standard PS3 DualShock 3 controllers will be provided during the competition. Players are free to bring their own custom arcade sticks/pad for the competition, but they'll have to provide the necessary controller adapters.

I got a suggestion. Do you have a fighting stick? or the tournament got use the fighting sticks? or can you go borrow one? if you have or if the tournament provides then i can suggest you to go to an arcade and practice there. I don't think the controls are different. Or practice with an old SF game. I don't think the controls for the old games is different too.

Added on February 18, 2009, 7:23 pmIs the goodie bag definitely will get one? if yes then i surely jon xD.

ALAN : so, will u guys provide us fighting sticks?

seth is pathethic. of all the online matches i played, nobody takes seth. why they even bother to block a pathethic fighter like seth, only god knows.

answer: because seth is cheap!

Well, so far his damage is pretty high but pretty slow to use. However, in order to be fair to everyone...lets not include bosses in tournament. Imagine if someone uses Shin Akuma vs Dhalsim...hmm

Ah, there was another topic on the Consoles Couch forum, but this one seems more active.

Was playing earlier today at Cineleisure (Outpost). Played with a couple of LYN members (I forgot your names sorry).

ZANGIEF REPRESENT.

EDIT: Just in case it hasn't been highlighted, you can practise at Outpost for free. Just buy some food/drinks and they'll let you practise.

There were about 7 of us there playing a lot:
- Me
- My girlfriend (noob, but won one match smile.gif)
- Some guy named Allen I think?
- Allen's friend #1 (lost a few times to this guy, uses Akuma quite well)
- Allen's friend #2
- Some guy whose real name I remember but I forgot his online name
- ^ This guy's friend

And, once in a while, one of the guys in charge at Outpost would play too. He used Ryu.

So up to eight of us, playing winner stays on. Lots of fun.

Come over if you wanna practise but don't have the ability to play at home!

I'll probably be going back there only on Wednesday/Thursday until tournament time. Will be busy till then. sad.gif

Like I said, I should be around on Wednesday or Thursday onwards.

Probably during evening till night. Say 4-9?

I'll confirm when I figure out exactly when I'll be back. smile.gif

EDIT: Apparently at least 60 people have already joined up? I dunno, that's just what people were saying.

Dyou guys think there will be future Street Fighter 4 tourneys?
Or to organizers: Dyou foresee organizing more tourneys under this title?

If the respond is good...we will defitnately do the YEAR END for the largest Street Fighter Title. That depends if we can find the right sponsor. With you guys supporting...I am sure we can do the Malaysian Open where we can invite contestant all over the world...Who knows right?

About the tournament matches, I remember you telling me they were based on best of five, correct?

And want to confirm: can we switch characters between matches or are we supposed to stick to one character the whole tournament?

Alan, thanks for the info. I dunno if you remember, but me and my gf told you that we might be a bit late (cause she has work). Is it okay if we call or SMS you on the day itself to confirm that we're on our way there?

For the time being, we dont provide arcade sticks - You may borrow from other contestant. I am sure they dont mind...beside, I can beat a guy using Arcade stick and I am using pad...so practically its the trainning not the stick.

Since I was playing Zangief the other day on pad, here's how I do it. First, I'll explain the standing/walking 360, which isn't really a 360. I do it from right, half circle left, then press upback or up and punch.

To do the 720 version, I just do the same thing twice. So it's from right, half circle left, up, right, half circle left, up, punch. The command is lenient like that. Only the timing is tricky.

Remember, when doing 360 motions, it doesn't matter where your starting point or ending point is. Meaning if you'rem ore comfortable starting from right and going down, left, and up from there, then use that (it'll apply on both sides).

Also, just to let people know, you can do an instant-air teleport with Dhalsim. It's forward, down, down-forward, up-forward, all 3 punch/kick buttons. smile.gif

Go Malaysia! Sangat Bagus Opera!

Barring any problems, I should be at Outpost again to practise tomorrow (Thursday) and Friday. Thursday should be 4+ again. Friday will probably be after Friday players.

You may try to come at 4pm - perhaps I try to put you at the last group of the tournament. But to say again it will not be fair for others...I really would love to help you out but unfortunately I cant.

Why not SKIP work...report MC or what so ever or even bring your client if you are meeting him and tell him how important SF is...kekekeke

play the challenges, experiment some combos, then try VS CPU.
when you think you can do it, experiment with living humans.

if you think your combo is good, train repeatedly in training mode until you can do it whenever you need it to come out.

repeat the process.

well that's what i did.
playing against humans really do increase the exposure, i had my share of pain when OverDOS grappled me 10000 times in a day. kekeke

Don't simply spam special attacks and play smart. Some special attacks leaves you open to attacks. That is a first start. All of the buttons has it's uses.

I tried plugging my old PS1 arcade stick to the Rockfire USB adapter, then to my PS3. The PS3 recognizes the stick, and I can move about the XMB. Unfortunately, since I don't have SFIV for PS3, I haven't tested how's the handling. If there's even a slight lag in recognizing input, there's no way I can play SFIV with that.

To do a charge move, hold the first direction for about 2 in game seconds first.

So let's say you use Guile's Sonic Boom, which is back, forward, punch. You then hold back for about 2 seconds, then press forward + punch.

For charge moves that are super attacks, same thing applies. Balrog (the boxer) has a super that's back, forward, back, forward + punch. So what you do is hold back for two seconds, then press forward, back, forward + punch.

You can charge pretty much anytime. If you're knocked down, you can charge, you're hitting someone, you can charge, you're in the air, you can charge, the round is starting, you can charge. Make use of this.

You can also charge two directions at once. All charge attacks start with either back or down, so if you press downback, you're charging both at the same time.

Great detailed explaination...and if you can master this, practically you can make use of it for a huge counter attack.

And you will be invinsible !!!

Oh! I forgot one more.

Balrog (the boxer) has a charge attack where you hold all three punches or kicks to do his Turn Punch.

Same as before, hold either all punches or all kicks for at least 2 seconds, when you let go it'll come out. Just like before,y ou can charge anywhere, but you can only release this attack when you're on the ground.

EDIT: More importantly, you can charge this, and downback at the same time... smile.gif

Thank Kyo.

Planning after this event for a Malaysia Open where we can invite other ASIAN countries to participate. Thats why in order to do that, we seriousl need your support !!! Take this as a plot for our sponsors to reconsiderate and MDEC to look at and we too can make MALAYSIA famous by organizing such tournaments.

Terry,

Cant drive all the way there to fetch you unless you can get to tmn connaught Mcdonalds and wait for me.

Leaving to Cineleisure around 3pm today and Sunday around 9am

So let me know ok?

Alan

Ofcourse you may bring your friends. The more the better !!! However, he or she may not enter the tournament area as it will be cordoned off only for contestant. Not to worry as even though we cordon it off, your friend can still see you play as it will be opened for public as well. To make things easier, we suggest your friends too sign up for the tournament or purchase the movie tickets for additional rm 10 for each tickets and get a goodie bag.

Alan told me everyone meets up just inside the main entrance (near the computer shop/Tony Roma's there.

If no one is there, I guess just go to Outpost. tongue.gif (if you don't know where that is, it's about 2 floors up, to the left of the escalator on the cinema floor level)

Tomorrow (Sunday) the tourney starts at one.

Just letting you know Alan, you got group B slightly off. I (B1) got 8 wins, not 7 (I think one of you recorded my first fight wrong).

Not that it matters since I advance, but just letting you know. smile.gif

if you win 5 rounds and call youself a noob, what do you call those who lost to you?

but then, it was a nice match, it's very rare that Aiman gets angry at his opponent.
usually it's the other way around lol.
watch those against the ropes when facing his Balrog, no escape.

To Alan and all the organisers, congratulations!

Was at the tournament today, didn't join cos of the timing, but played a bit on the demo unit outside. Overall, I think the atmosphere was fun, and the old Street Fighter arcade buzz was brought back. Good luck to everyone who made it through to tomorrow.

Hahas congrats Darkstalker

I'm new here. Was at the tournament today.

I was one of the only Cammy/Sagat/El Fuerte/Rufus/Vega user XD

Doubt anyone could remember though.

Yea Group A (which I was in) was intense! Haha but threw my tie match away when I used El Fuerte XD.

Hope 'Ken' / A7 goes far in the coming round!

As a side note, met a lot of nice people there. Glad was part of it (and the reason I signed up onto LowYat to post this haha)

There was a separate machine for anyone who's not part of the tournament, so if you drop by, you can actually just play there instead.

...technically, there were two extra machines, but the second one was based on Pro Evolution Soccer 2009.

Thanks....

There was a separate machine for anyone who's not part of the tournament, so if you drop by, you can actually just play there instead.

...technically, there were two extra machines, but the second one was based on Pro Evolution Soccer 2009.

Yeah, great tournament. It would be even better if you see more good players from Penang and Ipoh if they still plays.

Been there today to watch the finals. The event I think turned out better than the previous Soul Calibur IV Tournament. Although I'm sorry to say this but the final match (Ryu Vs. Ken) is not as exciting as the fight for 3rd and 4th place (Blanka Vs. Balrog/M.Bison). Maybe it is because Ryu & Ken's attack power has been toned down in SFIV. Next stop....Tekken 6 Tournament....maybe ? Hopefully... nod.gif .

Since SFIV is gonna stay around for a long time, you might wanna consider making this an annual Malaysian tourney like in the US & Japan (since you guys are the first to bring a SFIV tourney in Malaysia) wink.gif

It was a tactical game and the guy I played against is a friend who trained with me. He knows all my moves and my game was horrible. The one who don't last loses. Ryu and Ken fights are also common so it's nothing new. Ryu/Ken's combos are quite high in damage if it strikes.

The champion and third are from Sungei Wang. They are not active in the internet. They trained with me and some other friends who didn't take part in the tourney. There is also one C Viper who didn't show up for the tourney and he is also a very good player.

Tristan, thanks. Wish I owned the game, and a stick.

I must also say you have the best reaction anti air Dragon Punch I've seen. It was slightly safer to jump in at your friend than against you. If you saw me during the practise rounds before the semi finals, I had Alvin's bro try to teach me the range of the walking EX Dragon Punch, which stops jump ins from like 80% of the screen!

My report (from the cheapo Dictator with Tekken 4 stick):

First and foremost to Alan and team:
WELL DONE! For a TWO-day tournament of this scale and media attention you have done an EXCELLENT job! People may share their first-day (Saturday) experience as being somewhat draggy but you guys were being very fair by using a more preferred points system (winner = 2 points, loser = still get 1 point, top 4 from each group with the most points at the end of the day will progress to Sunday's elimination system). As the saying goes, "you can't please everyone", you took a bold step to ensure everyone had a fighting chance even when they lost their first few matches. Overall I believe Saturday's agenda went smoothly and according to schedule. Kudos!

Your flexibility to accommodate both pad and stick players are commendable, as with your ever-entertaining crowd-pleasing commentating. At the end, you and team made everyone a winner and brought the fighting game community closer together. Also, good cosplay with appearances from Ken, Chun Li and Sakura - to match your Ryu. Tournaments of these types has been long-desired and thanks to you it has materialized. Please bring in more of these in future, and as spoken you don't need to be ambitious to make it a regional event - let's start off with building the local scene first!

To FatCatLim and GameAxis:
Good MC-ing and coverage - and thanks for bringing news of this event to us as well. You absolutely got the right words out whenever something spectacular happened during the elimination rounds today! Good to have a fellow gamer being The Voice.

To Sony Malaysia:
More please! As from the turnout you can see there IS a community!

The Experience:
I witnessed many people playing their best today, some being tenured arcade veterans, some being more casual-like players who showed remarkable sportsmanship, and some of the "armchair champions" - good players who don't need to bother with a stick to become good, as evident in their flawless execution on a pad. I managed to put a face to some of the PSN friends whom I play almost every night with, and made friends with many more who share the same passion.

Taking 1st place was Kenneth (Ryu, non-forumer and friend), which played his best IMHO today and his religious daily sparring with our gang since the game came out paid off, in the form of a PS3 set with SF4. He earlier eliminated my Dictator and I readily admit he was the better man as he played extra safe unlike my carefree rush down and by now predictable game play. Could his win be attributed to widely-discussed character tier-rankings as on professional SF forums e.g. SRK, NeoGAF and Capcom-Unity?

1st runner up by a very close and tension-filled match was the amazing TristanX which gave his best with Ken. He was very patient and made the most of his given opportunities, which did not come by much due to the carefulness of both players. It was truly a classic battle to the finish between the series' two main protagonists - the crowd went wild at every comeback and life-bar depletion. Wow! In my many years of knowing him, he has shown great consistency in high-level matches and he carved his way to the finals with extreme surgical precision!

Freddy (Blanka, non-forumer and friend) took 3rd place with a very skilled Blanka. He took advantage of every opening, wow-ing the crowd when he took the first round with an ex-ball through Ken's fireball. He was on equal par with our long-time friend TristanX and both played very careful matches against each other but it was Ken who had better advantage via keep-away and Blanka's missed Ultras. It was very tension-filled and really gave atmosphere to the eventual finals.

Darkstalker (Boxer) was good too and secured 4th placing. He didn't had many openings against Kenneth (Ken) and Freddy (Blanka) but managed to hold up well. This is a player who plays on a pad and has only FOUR days' worth of experience at Outpost Cafe - with given time who knows he could have climbed higher in ranking! No chance for any Ultras after a Buffalo Headbutt in the last few deciding matches, as seen through his road to the semi-finals, punishing his opponents with this move!

In the end, EVERYONE wins - it was truly a good move forward for the SF scene - and a good comeback from its dormant years a decade ago. WE WANT MORE!

The Ryu was Kit Fai I believe.

Btw, for those that didnt' stick around AFTER the mini tournament, a bunch of us played a few more rounds as it was raining heavily and it was jammed outside anyway.

I had my revenge against Alvin's bro in a SECOND Gouki vs Gouki after the mini-tournament. Anti air Raging Demon is really fun.

I also played Gouken vs Gouken against Alvin, the Gouken in the knockout stages, but got schooled by him.

A big clap to the organisers, the announcers, and the sponsors!
to be honest with you guys, this is the a tournament that both winners and losers goes home with a happy heart, WHICH, is ultra (i'll start using this word a lot from now on) rare.

i've only been to CS tournaments before this but i can tell you that this is the best of any competitions that I've ever been to.

Great job Alan.

one thing about the tourney that i'd like to suggest is maybe they should make the front row spectators sit or something, most of us had a really hard time trying to watch the game from outside the circle, although it was really only a minor part among all the other good things.

I dare say that all of us would rush to the next SF4 tourney organised by the same people.

p/s: i hate cross up jump kicks

Man wanted to go there today to see the follow up but had to get my Street Fighter DVD (that came with the Ori Game and if you did import a CE version, it comes with it) and King of Fighters 2002 Unlimited Match.

Plus as I was about to grab a cab to Curve it started to rain x_x

Eh Darkstalker its me, the guy that said won't use any of the shotos XD. Wonder you can remember or not haha what with you and your gf asking me why I used El Fuerte for my qualifying. Ah top 4. Was hoping you and Tristan would have been top 2 XD. At least top 4 congrats!

But I must agree there were so many Ryu, Ken and Zangief users that it became really tiring. Can't blame anyone for choosing them though being the safest bet but would have been nice if there were more variety going on (hence why I used El Fuerte despite knowing I'll lose with him). After the first day I was literally drained. Hope someone will be posting up videos of the finals!

Anyways watch out for the anime. I'm pretty sure our Malaysia stores will get them pretty soon but incase you've heard of it but don't know what it contains, the movie is bout how things started before SF4's tournament takes place and some other promo videos.

user posted image

Apparently its enough to fit into a DVD so yea, should be out soon if anything (not sure if its out on the net though didn't check).

Congrats to the winners and thank you Outpost for the event smile.gif

Wait till u see other cross ups tongue.gif I do know how to do it on most of the characters.

I've used Ken all the way to final for this tourmanent cause I was barring myself of taking advantage using other characters. I could use Ryu, Ken and Zangief effectively. Using a single character was a rule on my previous tournaments and I believe it is also a rule for the most of the tourmanents for overseas. It is actually good rule cause it will force you trying to win a fight against a bogey character. There are bogey characters for everyone.

I've done it before on my old days.

The reason for having so many same characters is because the time for training is too short. You can't expect people to have a new character ready for a tourney in 3 weeks. I've also train a lot less frequently compare to old times.

that's why i said "yet".
kekeke...
havent faced other effective cross ups yet.
coz most of the fighters i faced are ryu, ken, ryu ken, ryu ken, zangief, zangief (repeat the list and you'll get the whole picture.

and being a new player means i am more open to explore with new characters (hence Gouken XD)

Thanks. Yeah, my DP is quite accurate. Used to be around 90% though. I heard from my friend that you practiced jump positionings against Ken's DP. I don't how much that will affect my game if I play you again but I know when not to use it most of the time. Hope we meet again some other time. I'm sure you can be a very good player. The amount of time you practiced just to get to this level is just amazing. On top of that, you are using DS3.

I lost my concetration on the final. I used too much of it fighting my friend's Blanka. He's really a more of a headache than any other friends cause his Blanka is my Ryu/Ken's bogeyman.

Well said! Your match against Blanka was my favourite and the one I was looking forward to the entire tournament. Tense all the way to the final round! Freddy also placed his focus on you the most too hence his game play was thrown off a bit in the end, agreed? Nevertheless he fared well over Boxer later on though I expected he (Boxer) to have a 50%-50% equally good chance of winning.

Best tournament? Agreed - in terms or organizing and overall experience. I'd like to fight Aiman too - I can see he did plenty of research for his character e.g. d+lp/lk links to Buffalo Headbutt > Ultra (KPKKK/KKPKK variants to see which hits best?) for best hitting percentage. And he doesn't lose his focus easily.

As I said earlier - EVERYONE WINS. Plus did anyone mentioned the champ and TristanX fought again on the big screen before the movie? But was for fun only on the DS3 pad - both plays on sticks only smile.gif

But it's going to be a really long way, looking at the Jap players - no, let alone Singaporeans who had a great head start ahead of us.

Since you brought it up Rawfish, I'll just a give a bit of Balrog info:

When you want to Ultra someone in the air (juggle or counter hit), the easiest way for most damage is that you miss the second hit completely regardless, regardless of what the first hit was.

So it's PPKKK or KPKKK. The reason you miss the second hit is that when it hits, you either hit up to the 4th hit and miss the 5th (the most damaging one) or you hit only the first two hits and then the guy falls down BEHIND Balrog, which is really bad.

He can also actually Ultra from more positions than what I showed in the tournament, but I couldn't react fast enough on a pad.

Through my limited knowledge (I don't use boxer), corner and mid-screen ranges are different, and yes the safest is KPKKK (2nd hit whiffs) I've seen most people connect it when opp. falls head to upper-torso level.

I can imagine you on a pad and yet still using a charge character. Painful to retain DB charges and/or charge buffers. Good for you to stick to it when you had chances to use a stick, which you were not used to.

Oh finally ive found this thread. xD

Couldnt make it to the 2nd day since Ive fallen sick (was already sick a day before the tourney but since i was desperate to get my SFIV fix, i joined anyway, heck even bought a stick, though ive only won once out of six matches T__T), I'm sure the matches're all exciting and regret not being there. Nonetheless, I'm glad to see that we now have a SF4 scene and i could only wish it to get bigger.

Nice meeting most of the guys at the tourney, I'm leaving back to Japan in 2 weeks and I was hoping maybe if there're any more tourneys/mini tourneys or even casuals, do let me know.. Id like to practice my Abel more, need to get back on my game biggrin.gif.

Last but not least, mad props to the organizers for organizing the event. Despite a few setbacks, I think overall its a well managed event.

We need more of this kinda thing in Malaysia! smile.gif

DEAR STREET FIGHTER FANS !!!!

First of all, on behalf of the organizer, sponsors, partners and myself would like to say thank you to all of you and of course, CONGRATULATIONS to all the winners. Thank you for making this event a SUCCESS !!! We seriously cannot do it without you guys. The whole event is a success only when you guys are around....I am sure most of us had witness the MALAYSIAN STREET FIGHTING skills and I am very sure that we do have international standards...

Now, before I go on any further...If there is any way during the tournament that we make mistakes or said something wrong or made you guys waited for sometime for your match...we apologize in advance. I know there is some small setbacks and i hope you guys really did enjoy the 2 days tournament.

Street Fighter has been in my life since it came out and I told myself that I must do this event no matter what. I would love too to take part and later I think organizing it would be even better. I have seriously missed the time where we used to go to sungeiwang and fight among all and get POW...hahaha...seeing the scene yesterday really reminds me of myself during the younger time. You guys really did brought back that moment for me and I THANK YOU !!! HA and I got to dressed as RYU too...what else could I ask for more?

OK OFFICIALLY ANNOUNCE THE WINNER HERE:

STREET FIGHTER 4 MALAYSIA CHAMPION 2009 : KENNETH AW (RYU)
RUNNER UP: MAK KIEN LEONG (KEN)
THIRD: KHOO KIAN CHUAN (BLANKA)
FOURTH: AIMAN ( BALROG)

I am draing the knock out score board now and will post it once its done.

Kenneth walk away with a Sony Playstation 3 and Street Figther 4 sponsored by SONY and RYU's Red Bandana...please bring bandana back next year ok?Tristan won himself a Dual Shock 3 controller and a Unreal Tournament Title. While Khoo got himself a Wireless Bluetooth and Aiman got himself a ps3 game of Unreal Tournament as well.

Also not forgetting Alissa who is the first Gal in any Street Fighter Tournament Malaysia who reached the Knock out stage !!!

After the Tournament, all of us walked into the Cinema in Cathay and we witnessed a rematch between Kenneth and Trstanx on the silver screen !!! And Kenneth of course...still remain the title even it was a rematch. I hope those who were in the cinema hall early before the movie enjoyed playing a few rounds of Street Fighter 4 on the big screen as it was a dream for me to play at such huge screen. Thanks to Cathay and Sony for giving us the opportunity to do so. It will be a memory....of perhaps, we will do it inside cinema hall next time? HAHAAH

Also to inform you guys that Outpost is planning for more street fighter league every week and preparing a place for all street fighter fans to do friendlies !!! Will create new post soon...

congratulations to Outpost Mini Tournament too: Both champion of Winners Pool and Losers pool won 2 original ps3 Shaun White and the rest of the contestant who didnt make it won lots of goodies too...

We at outpost events and Sony will DEFITNATELY bring more Street Fighter to you all and of course...MORE OF OTHER TOURNAMENT !!!

SHORYUKENLY YOURS,

ALAN aka Ryu

1st of all, Thank you Alan and his team for bringing this tournament up!
Although I did not join, I definitely feel very happy to see Malaysian are so active in gaming community.
And also, for the 1st time I went to watch a SF tournament live! Instead of online streaming laugh.gif

Also, I want to thank rawfish to explain many covered information already.
Having short term memories and couldn't remember everything correctly.

QUOTE(MasterAlvin @ Mar 2 2009, 02:08 AM)
one thing about the tourney that i'd like to suggest is maybe they should make the front row spectators sit or something, most of us had a really hard time trying to watch the game from outside the circle, although it was really only a minor part among all the other good things.
*
I think adding a projector screen, so it's easy for us to watch from far happy.gif

This tournament is the best. You should see how it was 10-13 years ago. It will be even better when there is another and you'll get better matches when other character players are there. The time for training is just too short for other characters to shine.

Don't forget SF4 is only available for us on Febuary 2009. People on overseas get to play it on the arcades somewhere on June 2008. It takes time for us to catch up with them if you wanna see the true skills but of course older players like me will have a wall.

Yesterday's tournament was great! Props to Alan for making this tournament!

The most awesome thing is you can see all the players improve drastically those 2 days! I was doing really well during the first day's warmup session, but toward the qualifiers I start feeling the pressure...and subsequently getting my ass handed to me eventually during quarterfinals by Kian Chuan's Blanka. Guess there were so many Zangiefs that tournament everyone already knew all his tricks by the time the second day came.. My crossups, tick-to-piledriver and random EX banishing fist don't work anymore sad.gif

Really enjoyed myself those 2 days! There should be more like this and I look forward to it if there is. Tekken 6:BR is coming up in October *hint hint*

*
Easiest way I found for this is to wait for the first 2 hits (2nd hit will whiff) then tekan the kick button all the way until the ultra ends. Also don't forget to do the headbutt by charging down-back , then up-back +punch to maintain the charge for the combo to Ultra.

I believe he was the younger of the Leong brothers. He was very good with Ryu and his timing to juggle and execute Matsu Hadouken was excellent. Couldn't get any better during the mini tournament
*
Damn my little brother got all the glory huh..well, I can understand..his focus cancel to Ultra is pretty slick..I've been on the business end of that trick so many times against him.. i think he's the only guy in the tourney that can do that.

Yeah, I know you have to hold the button down for the easiest way to get the uppercuts to come out.

There were other tricks I wanted to do with Balrog, but they were nigh impossible on pad. Sigh. sad.gif

Watched the video, good match (no ultras performed though lol not that it matters anyway tongue.gif). A blocked/whiffed srk's extremely punishable its better to sadc and lose 2 ex bars than eating a free combo imo. Though I know at tourneys as big as this sometimes people lose focus and stuff happens hehe no disrespect to anyone.

alan, how bout videos of semifinals ? Im sure they're as interesting too

I was knocked out on the 1st round too... By 3 revesal/counter ultra combo finishes from Ken, sad. I used Akuma. My English name is Carl (and I'm Alvin's younger brother).

Thank you Alan I loved the tournament and it was my first competition appearance for fighting games smile.gif. I loved the experience.

Sounds good... my internet connection really blows so I can't sign in to PSN, can sign in also get shitty one-bar connection; this could really help a lot.

And on the next tourny please don't make it arcade stick only. I will never get used to arcade sticks no matter how much I try. And trust me I tried.. Prefer the good ol' trustworthy joypad to pull off my stuff. Too used to it.

My bro's interested in getting one of those joysticks though. How much does one cost?

Well, you all could come to Sungei Wang Plaza, 6th floor, Games Hypermart for some friendlies. We usually screw around on that game. You also could find things that you never seen on the tourney, especially the new characters and the ones people don't use. Take this chance for your training and you'll probably learn something from us.

Cineleisure is just too far for me. Travelling there already got me exhausted a bit. I will go there but I won't go there often. Alan will know if I'm going there.

You can also come to my place at Genting Court if you stay nearby. Bring a joystick along and we got game. tongue.gif

Can't do much about it. It is a tournament. I read your game and took advantage of it. You still need more training and experience.

Alvin, you're slightly off:

I fought Tristan in the B Group prelims. I did not fight him in the semis, I fought the champ in the semis (forgot his name right now, sorry). Nice editing though.

Tristan:

I'm the other way around. Sungei Wang is too far for me most of the time and travelling there is hard. However, if I do go there I'll try to see if I can drop by the shop. smile.gif

And yes, that means One Utama and Cineleisure are damn easy to get to for me.

EDIT: Tristan, that's the semi (best of five).

I'm trying to get the one where you and I fought in B Group since my gf recorded it but connection today has been bad and she's not too familiar with converting and uploading it herself.

Hello...you old liow lah....time to SAU SAN ( retire in Cantonese ) Let the new Generation play....or Lets say we have newbies pay you for you to train them...anyone wants to pay TristanX for training.?
*
I told you on the day you organized the tournament, I'm getting old. rofl

My concentration didn't last long enough after an all out game against my friend's Blanka. At least I still beat my own expectation reaching the final though.

You don't need to pay anything when you play me or see me play. Certain things still requires you to learn it yourself though. You'll learn when you play better players.

okey i'll change the names.

here are some of the other videos i've taken and uploaded:

This is the 3rd/4th place match between Darkstalker and Khoo Kian Chuan
which does not require anymore explanation.

and this is the video of my brother in the fight that got him eliminated XD
fell to 3 ultra counters due to his inexperience in the game, pressed too much.
he believed that by attacking it makes the game wonderfully exciting, which it did.
i guess he needs time to learn to change the tempo of his game from time to time.

Thank you Alvin, you are truly the Mastah. Didn't get to fight your Gouken that day. But I realized I fought your brother's Gouki towards the end of Day 1 (group F). He landed plenty of RDs that day on lotsa people.

Btw, I think you'd be the best person to create a new SF4 thread.. since TS had gone AWOL *hint*

No offence ...bit this sounds more like using our money to gamble lah ....beside...its too early for another small tournament...I think the SF fans are not really eager to lots of tournament...I think we are more into gathering...and exchange skills for the time being.

There were some really good Penang and Ipoh players 10 years ago. I really miss them.

You don't have their contacts, even ICQ/MSN/Yahoo anymore? Penang Ryu-bot... Ah Tai's Raging Demon.. the Ipoh Yit Foong gang... miss them - all having unique play styles smile.gif

Competing wit Japs in street fighter is like playing Brazil in soccer.

They are just too freakin good.

Players like Daigo and RX are legends in the SF scene..can Malaysia produce a SF prodigy to compete in the international scene? Hope we will know soon enough.

I believe as long as we have people/competition and the dedication.. We can be as good as the Japanese, they are only ahead because they get a way earlier headstart. Its just natural that they have lotsa great players there.

But i have to admit, the gap is still big.

Gief is tough.
if you have your basic combo and grabbing timing down, i think most mediocre players like me have difficulties facing Zangief.

Against Zangief:
- Jump back HP/HK a lot
- Watch out for Green Hand and whiff Green Hand to throw
- If possible, never get knocked down, otherwise you have to guess on wakeup if he does Lariat or throw
- Know exactly what beats lariat (timed Blanka roll, Balrog crouching HP or HK depending on distance, etc)
- Don't do anything that isn't comboable, Gief can grab you in between

I could counter the Green hand easily by jumping straight then medium kick and do my combos for Akuma, but only against the hardest AI :]. If my character is knocked down, I could teleport away when my character is up and play the long distance game: The revenge of the hadoukens.

Good games, guys. Sorry I was too into the game and forgot to introduce myself earlier on.

I'm Nicholas, the guy with the 3 B Characters, Bison, Blanka and Balrog. The guy with Guile was Peter and the guy who didn't play Abel but played Blanka instead was Abel. LOL

P/S: Me and Abel don't own a console hence no PSN but Peter does. Hook him up. His PSN handle is Ex_Guile.

Cheers.

Sakura was good in Zero 3 as I mentioned and fun to use. I always liked my SCHOOL-GIRL. However, not much can be done with her in SF4. There's a good reason why she's only available on console version and not arcade's. But very impressive combos and game play! And let's not forget the Human Guile as well!

Push Guile to the corner.

Win.

tongue.gif

Seriously? Go for trades. Most characters on trade do more damage to Guile than Guile to them. Otherwise, high/low/throw mixup.

Can't really blame Guile players for crouching most of the time. Guile is a charge-based character and all that matters to these kinda of character are the CHARGE. Furthermore, if you notice, most of Guile's moves are defensive. Guile is made a crouching/camping character. That's his play style. Try to trade hits whenever possible. But as for high/low/throw mixups, it's kinda risky as you'll never know when the ever-unforgiving FLASH KICK will come out. Even more unforgiving if it's an EX one

If it's a Guile that never moves, a good recommendation is how fast you can throw fireballs at him. Guile's charging techniques takes time, and normally very very very experienced Guile players can counter fireballs with fast Sonic Booms.

If it's a Guile who knows how to Charge-Buffer, the Sonic Boom will come out as soon as the earlier one disappeared. And to run to the other screen and wait each other out. I don't think the Guile will sit quietly there. He'll keep on throwing projectiles till he baits to do something he want you to.

And to run to the other side of the screen and wait each other out? LOL. You better have a 200 inch screen so you'll be at a safe distance. I am as what you are as well, MasterAlvin. I'm an offensive or rush-down kinda player. Hence, most of the time I'll either trade hits (if I'm lucky) or get bruised badly for my aggresiveness. Best is to have you arsenal of pokes, moves, or tricks when you intend to go in on the offense. All in all, more training and experience is much needed on my side.

Thank you all street fighter fellows for the fights, I learned 'A LOT' (and I mean it). To be honest I don't really like defensive/crouching/turtle/charging characters (used by humans) such as Guile, M.Bison, Balrog, Blanka, Vega and so forth because I find it difficult to defeat them :].

I'm always on the offensive/'ultra combo' aggressive side because that's my style for using characters like Akuma. If no one attacks the game would be 'boring' lol...
I get beaten up most of the time but as long as I can enjoy the game in my style nothing else matters biggrin.gif.

The turtle guy stated by my brother is a fellow forumer. He used Akuma against my Akuma, if I just stand or crouch there he would do NOTHING except 1 or 2 rare hadoukens sometimes, and it would be the 'staring' fight. I still can't believe I lost to him multiple times when I first fought him, maybe I wasn't familiar with the defensive style yawn.gif. And I defeated him recently in a match of 5 rounds, and I used mostly GRAPPLEs LOL.

Just to clarify;

Balrog is NOT a defensive character. He's strongest on offence. I just haven't practised with the game enough to get the most out of it.

Practising safe ways to attack is important though. And when something doesn't work anymore, don't keep using it. Remember when I mirror matched Balrog yesterday and he kept catching me with the Turn Around Punch (TAP)? Had to stop doing attacks as he got up. tongue.gif

Btw, you should look into usin the Raging Demon as an anti cross up attack. Not sure if it would work (if Akuma turns around or not) but seems like a good idea.

Balrog is crazy on offence. Absorbing hits during his charge moves is by far the sickest thing I've seen in a SF game.

I played Michael in the arcade, I think (he says he's the only Yun Genei Jin player).

HE COST ME ONE RINGGIT FIFTY CENTS (Urien, Makoto, Dudley).

EDIT: I remember this because it's hte only time I ever lost 3-0.

Sorry if you think I was being rude, I've made some typing errors in my post. I just 'tried' to describe your style LAST TIME a little bit. I never said anything about newb or noob. I also want to say thank you because I learned something when fighting against you, patience is good if we know how to use it.

Just take it easy and enjoy the game.

I've been trying to use the Raging Demon against cross up attacks but sadly most of the time it doesn't work T_T because AKUMA refuse to turn around! I tried doing the input in the opposite direction and it doesn't work. At least I could run away and still keep a distance :], but it's a waste of the ultra combo so I won't do it anymore.

Actually, on being defensive, turtling is a style which has been much discussed, debated, disinterpreted and digressed since the days of past.

The player who would simply just crouch his/her own end of the corner and bank-in on opportunities aka mistakes by the other player, is usually the least popular person in any match with an audience. Just because he/she doesn't show any flash, proactiveness or initiative to make the attacking move does not mean he/she has lesser skill. Over the years I have grown to accept this style of play even if I find it irritating. Turtling requires plenty of patience and concentration, as the intended effect is to bait your opponent to give in to come forward.

I faced a really good Japanese Claw user on PSN a few days ago, and he was so good at being defensive, aka TURTLING and at the same time excellent at prioritizing his pokes and footsie game I fell for almost all his tricks, when he went all out for the offensive. His timing for cross-up (on me waking up) EX Wall Dive to Izuna Drop was flawless. To differentiate his play style, he later on switched to Ryu which was close to Daigo's offensive play style. What an experience.

Bottom line, I strongly recommend you guys to accept this defensive play style and to work harder to tactfully counter their tactics / break through their defence. Nothing's more satisfying than having a big lead in the round while they themselves play "catch up" when you turn the tide on them smile.gif

EDIT: disinterpreted = misinterpreted.

Bleh, never a fan of defensive play for me. It is boring and time wasting. I prefer looking for ways on attacking and put pressure to the opponent. That's one of the things I do to be steady while playing.

heh Aiman he tried the anti cross up raging demon, and as you could see last night, all Akuma did was run away by spending his ultra... lol
even if he does go to the right direction once in a blue moon there's a big chance of missing it coz the opponent is too close to the ground when performing a cross up and most of the time he would have enough time to jump away.

me and my brother are not fans of defensive styles, but we dun hate it, becoz though we dun play SF a lot over the years we are aware that there are some characters that easily make strong defensive styles.

we just dislike rounds that we lose on TimeOver with more than 70-80% health left for the opponent coz he could just crouch there forever. trust me there are ppl like that.

I know there're people like that. If that's what it takes to win, I'll do it. tongue.gif

Though I tend to use characters where that sort of strategy won't work for the most part.

Hi everybody, I'm Peter the one who using guile yesterday. Instead of crouching heavy punch i use flash kick due to more damage so most of the time i was crouching. Sorry, I don't know if you guys was feel irritating. I'll put more effort on using guile to play more offensive and not to disappointed you all anymore. btw, I enjoy playing with you guys and i did learn something from all of you. I should hang out with you guys more frequently rather than playing online (tmnet su*ks) and robot. Hope to cya guys soon. ggs.
