I was knocked out on the 1st round too... By 3 revesal/counter ultra combo finishes from Ken, sad. I used Akuma. My English name is Carl (and I'm Alvin's younger brother).

Thank you Alan I loved the tournament and it was my first competition appearance for fighting games smile.gif. I loved the experience.

I could counter the Green hand easily by jumping straight then medium kick and do my combos for Akuma, but only against the hardest AI :]. If my character is knocked down, I could teleport away when my character is up and play the long distance game: The revenge of the hadoukens.

Thank you all street fighter fellows for the fights, I learned 'A LOT' (and I mean it). To be honest I don't really like defensive/crouching/turtle/charging characters (used by humans) such as Guile, M.Bison, Balrog, Blanka, Vega and so forth because I find it difficult to defeat them :].

I'm always on the offensive/'ultra combo' aggressive side because that's my style for using characters like Akuma. If no one attacks the game would be 'boring' lol...
I get beaten up most of the time but as long as I can enjoy the game in my style nothing else matters biggrin.gif.

The turtle guy stated by my brother is a fellow forumer. He used Akuma against my Akuma, if I just stand or crouch there he would do NOTHING except 1 or 2 rare hadoukens sometimes, and it would be the 'staring' fight. I still can't believe I lost to him multiple times when I first fought him, maybe I wasn't familiar with the defensive style yawn.gif. And I defeated him recently in a match of 5 rounds, and I used mostly GRAPPLEs LOL.

dude hv some manners when posting about others will ya,i read ur post before u edited it just now,i may not be the best fighters in the world but i dont recall doing NOTHING except for 1 or 2 hadoukens waiting for u to come to me,so pls dont talk rubbish like im some noob here
*
Sorry if you think I was being rude, I've made some typing errors in my post. I just 'tried' to describe your style LAST TIME a little bit. I never said anything about newb or noob. I also want to say thank you because I learned something when fighting against you, patience is good if we know how to use it.

Just take it easy and enjoy the game.

QUOTE(Darkstalker @ Mar 16 2009, 09:30 AM)
Just to clarify;

Balrog is NOT a defensive character.  He's strongest on offence.  I just haven't practised with the game enough to get the most out of it.

Practising safe ways to attack is important though.  And when something doesn't work anymore, don't keep using it.  Remember when I mirror matched Balrog yesterday and he kept catching me with the Turn Around Punch (TAP)?  Had to stop doing attacks as he got up. tongue.gif

Btw, you should look into usin the Raging Demon as an anti cross up attack.  Not sure if it would work (if Akuma turns around or not) but seems like a good idea.
*
I've been trying to use the Raging Demon against cross up attacks but sadly most of the time it doesn't work T_T because AKUMA refuse to turn around! I tried doing the input in the opposite direction and it doesn't work. At least I could run away and still keep a distance :], but it's a waste of the ultra combo so I won't do it anymore.

Hey Peter your Guile is the most offensive Guile I've seen so far :].

I think the new system (Focus attack) of the game is designed to break through the defense of players who're 100% on the defensive side. I think they would be defeated by a good Zangief or El Fuerte player smile.gif.

Even though the game is less exciting, I don't mind fighting them because there are lots of ways to punish them when they block or crouch too much including jumping attacks, crouching unblockable special attacks from Rufus and Balrog, OVERHEAD attacks (i.e front medium punch for Ryu and Akuma), grapples, level 3 focus attacks and finally RAGING DEMON biggrin.gif!!! Everything is part of the game!

At least most of us just love our offensive games. What's the point of playing a 'fighting game' if you don't fight or attack? The best players in Japan (= in the world) such as Daigo, Mago and Momochi are VERY/EXTREMELY offensive when they play, sometimes their opponents didn't even have the chance to counter attack!!

Hey Michael & Nick & Peter how come you all didn't join the major competition last month? If good players from your group competed the top 3 positions would change smile.gif.

Michael did join the tournament but was knocked out somewhere, somehow as he was in the same group as a lot of other Pro's. Not as lucky as others.

As for me and Peter, we had to work on that Saturday. I was there for both days of the tourney. I arrived on Saturday at around 2 pm. Didn't make it for the reporting in thingy.

Anyways, what you said was very flattering. Thank you so much. But I don't think I can make such huge impact even if I joined. I'm a very REALISTIC person. LOL. All of the top 3 winners from the big tourney are actually our SF kaki since long long time ago. It's no surprise they are the winners. They've been very good all these while.
*
Lol thanks for the information :]. I can't believe a good player like Michael was knocked out in group stage =.=

Thanks again for the games during the mini tournament sessions, I am very happy even though I lost to your Blanka (I can't even beat the AI Blanka yet :]) because we get to play with great players who played Street Fighter games for almost 20 years?

I also had some interesting battles with Aiman's Zangief, Balrog and Dalsim smile.gif.

Our free days are mostly weekends. As for myself I don't have classes on Tuesdays and Thurdays, so I might be free.

QUOTE(hatred___ @ Mar 17 2009, 08:40 PM)
I AM NOT THAT OLD LAH!!!!!!!!!!! Although MY first SF game is when I was 8 years old and I'm 30 this year. Oh sh*t! I AM THAT OLD!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hahahahahahaha. There are a lot more for me to explore/exploit in the game. I spent too much time playing SF3:3rd Strike. Now having difficulty adapting.

And I actually admire your courage in having Akuma as your character. Akuma needs a lot of patience and courage as he takes damage quite bad. Someone once told me that Akuma is a DOUBLE EDGED SWORD. He deals damage like nobody's business but at the same time takes damage very badly as well. So, keep it up! Looking forward to playing you again.

As for Michael's case, it's a matter of luck sometimes. Some might have it smooth-sailing through out the whole tournament and reach to semi finals or something like that. While some might just be drawn into a group where all the top-ranked players are.

C'est la vie, monsieur.  C'est la vie.

Thanks for the advice.
Don't worry friend because gamers never get old, I think I would still be playing Street Fighter and all other video games when I'm 50 or 60 maybe with my grand children biggrin.gif wahaha...

Quiet, kids. It's Alan's thread so let's not make this an unfriendly place or turn this into GameFAGs.

If I were to seek gaming tips, I'd resource other avenues for information. Anyone not happy with the advice given here should do the same. While I appreciate this gesture, especially to those unfamiliar to the game and need some push to the right direction, please be mindful in giving the CORRECT information, and also nurture some self-help habits to develop their minds and styles for their game. Spoon-feeding alone leads to nowhere.

I myself adore how the Japanese play, as they are referenced for their variety of skill, discipline, in-depth knowledge, exposure and dedication to the game. They are no deities, but they are good, at the same time defeat-able.

To not make this post totally useless, let's visit an SBO match between Muteki (invincible) Guile and Kurahashi:
Similarly, a person who wishes to learn the art of turtling in 3S should watch any of Ricky Ortiz or Justin Wong's videos. Blind worship without learning anything is pointless, I'd say.

I don't think anyone's e-penis is as long as they think should be, so no one's smarter than the other.

Peace out.
*
Which one is Muteki? The person who won or lost? Man these players are just too good. But I think there are surely Malaysian players who are equally as good at least :].

Why?

I hate Sagat too. It's because he's just UNBALANCED (why CAPCOM?). He's undoubtedly the BEST CHARACTER in the game. And that's why many players will just refuse to use him.

Thanks again Alan,SF fans and outpost for the great food, environment and games smile.gif!!!

Failure is the mother of success and I will never give up!

I had good games in my group with Mike's Ryu, Yujin's Blanka, Kevin's Bison, Quist's Sagat, and another Ryu (sorry I don't know the user's name, the tall man with glasses). They taught me a lesson. It was my first time hitting Blanka with raging demon after blocking his heavy roll, it even works for the EX version! I was surprised myself because I never even tried it in training mode or against AI LOL...

I have a little suggestion for the 2 on 2 format. The winner of the 1st match up should rest for 1 match, if his/her team mate loses to the 2nd player of the opponent's team then he/she plays the deciding match. It's because if the 1st player of a team is godly (always win) his/her team mate will never get to play. Sorry if I made it hard to understand =.=......

Hey rawfish how do you do the wall jumping trick for Seth? The trick of jumping off the wall, stepping on the opponent once and fly all the way to the other side of the map and repeat. I heard from my brother that you could do it 6 times!! We tried but we couldn't do it..
