Your are correct. Since HD3200 and 3450 is basically the same GPU(40 SPs). Only 100mhz difference in core clock speed. I dont think there will be much difference in GPU performance. The only thing I missed is bluetooth and 125AX has it.

oic...but seem like with additional Rm200 is worth, u get additional 90GB HDD size, your bluetooth & the dedicated GPU 256MB

i rather get the dedicated memory
if go research hows the GPU memory allocation
you will know how the dedicated memory will help in graphic processing

installing vista x86. it comes with 1gb and i added another 1GB to enable dual channel. downloading ATI driver from hp site now. driver from ATI cant be used. I have troubles finding drivers now.


2099. should be cheaper in kl or with free gifts.

maybe u should wait for my review first. my first impression is, this lappy is hot. checked with everest. cpu idling at 60 gpu at 70. didnt install drivers yet and no notebook cooler(i dun like it)

wooo... i just saw this model at shop today. Quite ok la the design. still i dont like the panel around the keyboard. Look cheap n fugly compared to the front lid and touchpad area.

If im not mistaken, iHD3200 can be crossfire with HD3450....well that is desktop case, not sure about this model

You are correct but too bad I dont think this model comes with onboard HD 3200. Only discrete HD 3450. I hoped that it comes with onboard HD 3200 so I can Xfire but too bad I'm wrong.

Shady, XP success? or back to vista??

Still testing lar.. so far ok lar.. Nice screen, got BT and WIFI. A bit hot during gaming thanks to Turion and HD 3450. Battery life also doesnt seem like good.


Didnt try XP cos HD 3450 got DX10. I dun think can run XP cos I dun have drivers. Even drivers for Vista is hard to find. I have to chat with HP online technician to get drivers.

oh ya Vista's DX10 will produce much better image quality

CQ40 dint' come with any driver DVD?

Yeah got so many CQs. AMD and Intel also. Dont wana create a war here but wana create a place for discussion.

CQ45 is higher spec than CQ40, got finger print, expansion slot and esata. Ppl with low budget like me will go for CQ40 and AMD.

yeah~ i plan to get CQ45.. they are giving consumer IR.. is a remote control right?
if yes than will be good for me to do presentation...
and while at home can connect to my LCD TV to play games and watch moving.. and also using the remote to control..

That is consumer infrared. I dont think CQ45 comes with remote. The CQ4,5 series come with HDMI. Those with ATI chipset can output both video and audio thru HDMI cable. Damn cunn. I connected my lappy to LCD and watch HD movies. Video and sound with one cable.

For games, I think you need a notebook at least with GF 8600/9500 or HD 36xx series.

Cause just now I went to a dealer and tested with DDR2 667mhz 4gb (2x 2gb),
can be detect by the bios.

Not sure it can be use on actual vista.


I am very interested to get 1 but worry that can't support 4gb ram (DDR2 800mhz).

This morning, I tried calling the customer service, (sounds like mat salleh)
he claim CQ40-125AX can support 4gb.

But, later I wanted to buy online.
I check with the sales rep from HP.
She said cannot.........

Now, i really confused................

Yes, it can support 2GB modules and speed up to 800mhz. In fact the AMD 780G chipset runs best with 800mhz. So you can use 4GB DDR2 800 without any problems. CQ40's service manual confirms this. Furthermore, Vista x64 drivers are available so you can utilize the 4gb RAM.
dont trust the sales rep. u can get the service manual from this models support page from the first post.

hey to the owners, whats your opinion on the heat of this laptop? is it very hot?

Yup, to fully utilize 4GB u must use 64bit OS. if u use 32 bit. U might see 3.5 or 3.25GB or even less.


I havent install much software but so far its snappy. dont think can handle latest games but older games should run fine. im running at 1GBx2 667mhz.

CPU and GPU idling at 45-55C. Under load can reach 70C. First time using lappy so dunno this consider hot or not. No aircond room.. Ambient temp around 28-32C

HP Compaq CQ40 series only can max 2GB ram? Cant upgrade to 3GB ram?

Malaysia version CQ45 come with remote control? TV tuner?

Not sure but I dont think it have. only pavillion series have it. CQ45 is a higher spec version than CQ40

hmm the 3200 is 32 bit?
i surf around at notebookcheck..shows 32 bit
whereas 3450 is 64 bit..maybe tehre is a little gap in the performance

Why the official website only give 3200 driver but not 3450???

i dun think 3200 is 32bit.. will be too slow for data transfer. either 64 or 128 bit. if the 780G chipset runs on 128bit, then should be 128bit but using shared memory instead of dedicated. 3450 runs on 64bit but dedicated 256MB video RAM.

yeah. i installed 3200 driver but vista and everest shows HD 3450.

HD 3450 installed 3200 driver, then the direct X 10 or 10.1?
HD 3450 suppose is direct X 10.1...whereas HD 3200 is direct X 10 only.

I think all HD3xxx series are DX10.1.

Btw mine is 10.1(confirmed in Everest)

I'm planning to get 1 CQ40-125AX....upgrade to DDR2 800mhz 4GB ram..........but need vista 64bit.......


So, how's the performance?

BTW, HD3200 is only DirectX 10....but uses less power.
And, HD3450 is DirectX 10.1.....plus 256mb RAM on board.

Anybody seen this model in Penang yet? I urgently need to get a laptop for AutoCAD drawing in 3D mode... Plan to upgrade it to 2Gb 800Mhz RAM

Sure got lah, Kedah Alor Star also got ad.
This morning i have try install Dirt Rally in W. Vista, the game performance is at least 20% faster than Acer Aspire 4530, later i will try more game like C&C3 and Call of Duty 4.

CQ20's 45nm CPU should be much cooler than AMD. Btw, mine idling at 50-60C. On load it gets up to 70C

it comes with one 1GB 667mhz RAM. If u wana get 4GB, u need to get two 2GB sticks which will cost u RM2xx. If u plan to use your laptop for more than a year, better upgrade.

anyway, the back panel is very similar to v3000 series. exact HDD, RAM, proc, wifi card position.... i wonder did they ever took into account the heating problems v300 amd users faced b4 rolling out this model...

Ive tried using a cheap RM10 notebook cooler. Not much difference in temp but a bit cooler. The best cooling is air cond room. Suck in cool air and blow out hot air


vista 32bit can detect 4GB but cant utilize all. maybe around 3GB.

Maybe a part of PUMA. PUMA platform requires an AMD CPU, 780 series chipset and any ATI graphics adapter. Its flexible. I have to admit this laptop is kinda hot Keep blowing out hot air.

SP i dunno lah, normal price mostly is rm2099.
Yup, add around rm200 to get 3 years warranty is very worth, but the bateri only for 1 years.

I bought allready at itmall now it is rm1999, now i am having problem ,the problem is when i want to install windows vista rtm, t it wont continue the isntallation , it always shows that it countinueing and the second problem I cant setup windows XP, please check run chkdsk /f bla bla technical information ***STOP : 0x00000007B, 0xF78D2524, 0xC0000034, 0x00000000, 0x00000000), don't know whats wrong

wooo...this amd proc. really smoking hot!!!idling temp around 60 degree celcius..deymn hot...so worried bout this temp.

Will get CQ40-126AX from Gadget Zone in Penang today 126AX has the same specs as 125AX, only that it comes with Vista Home Premium... Using it as company laptop... so must be legit

According to some post up there , it is the best speed to be run on.

about the heat issue,some posted idle 50-60C,try install those amd driver for it,there are few from the web,
think u're funning at full speed on idle
mine 35 idle but not full clock speed,but if u were to convert video at full clock,yes the core temp 70,cpu temp arnd 59 to 61

anyone mind to tell the vista Experience index for this CQ40-125AX lappy?

Mine is 4.0. Graphics is the lowest score.

The HD3470 benchmark is better than nVidia 8400gs.
