This CQ40-125AX model is really not bad. 250HDD and a class 3 ATI HD3450. Just wondering will the price drop? Just like Compaq V3000 series last time. So wondering should i buy it now or wait? haha.

hi fellows'

please advice me on this laptop....can it run Acad, sketchup, Photoshop, 3dmax, archicad etc etc well? im hoping to get a laptop today n was thinking of this?

has anyone tried these applications?

I just got this model yesterday. Upgraded to 4G Ram. It can run photoshop CS3 smoothly. I can even play COD 4...quite smooth if compare to my old stolen Presario V3000 series. The HDD space is large too. No need to worry about not having enough space. So i believe it shouldnt be a problem for you.

After much deliberation I finally bought a CQ40-125AX over a CQ45-107AU for RM2099 from the HP Store at Lowyat. No Official HP freebies cause' I opted for the easy payment plan. Some shops such as CZONE and ALL IT charge a handling/processing fee though.

Got rid of the 1GB 667 RAM and replaced it with 2 sticks of Kingston 2GB 800 from Viewnet (RM93 each). I'm running Vista Ultimate 64 bit. So far so good. The heat on the left side of the touchpad is not that bad as far as I'm concerned.

The front part (touchpad area) seems to be susceptible to scratches, as do the lcd lid... maybe I should skin it. Do you guys happen to have any pictures of a skinned 125AX?
*
why you do wanna skin it? because magnetic thumb print on the lid?

i think it needs to be d same manufacturer, same speed and same model for dual channel. am i right? correct me if im wrong.

anyway. is it okay if i install vista 32-bit drivers on my vista 64-bit?
*
I dont think so u can. I m using vista 64-bit. Most of the 32 drivers cant be use on 64-bit platform.

this laptop is indeed really hot.... cry.gif  and batt life short... cry.gif  rclxub.gif
i think theres the 2 cons for this lappy... and with that price dun expect too much tongue.gif
anything can be sort out, like me, the laptop hot, jack up your laptop, batt life short, use AC power whenever there has a plug, the batt is like a backup power for me. if use batt frequent, then buy a bigger cap when there is any in the market or buy an extra batt, but the price is.....  whistling.gif
overall the laptop serves me superb.

Pros:
with RM20xx, you can't find a new laptop with Griffin 2Ghz proc, 250Gb Hdd, a lightscribe dvd-rom writer, of course a dedicated class3 256Mb graphic card ATI HD3450, BT & wifi somemore, 3 USB port, even a HDMI port hmm.gif , i'm wonder when will i used it laugh.gif  anyway it's a PUMA platform but without the function of hybrid xfire... hmm.gif
it's already enough for daily usage such as, movie, surfing, chatting, and games... of course not in high detail but all are playable. if wanna get full high details then you have to pay more, "1 sen 1 goods" notworthy.gif  it really suit a student or light gamer. i admit that intel mobile proc are far far... sweat.gif  better then AMD. it's faster and save power. but all the laptop with intel proc are not in this price and with a not so good graphic card.

The Cons:
As all know, this lappy is hot!!
batt life is short. average 1 hour and 30 minits for balance power setting in vista.
driver for win xp is hard to find but not in vista.

overall, the price/performance is really worth. for ppl that has low budget like me and a bit gaming.
if want a really good performance laptop, the price would not be that little. or better go for desktop icon_rolleyes.gif

thats all, try yourself in any store. research as much as you can from any source like internet or friends.
you have to know a laptop is not cheap and can't comparable with a desktop no matter performance of flexible, desktop, you can change any of the hardware you like but a laptop is limited.

think twice before decide to buy a laptop. wink.gif
*
Hot you say? Mine is hot only when i play games like COD4. Normal stuffs like internet surfing will feel less heat.

i think he mean overhot...

You mean overheat? If you use vista and adjust the power to power saver....you wont feel any heat on the keyboard. Heat is a common problem for all notebook. Which notebook does not have a slightest heat?

You can still get the 126AX version at Mines IT 3rd floor at Challenger shop at RM2099 + RM200 (Vista Home Premium). Still get free external hard disk, optical mouse and cooling pad. They give some extra goodies like a couple of D-Link pens, games, etc. Look for salesperson name Iqbal.

BTW according to moniqee at this thread http://forum.lowyat.net/index.php?showtopic=845574 that Ucare exclusion includes

1. snatch theft

2. stolen from vehicle

3. theft without forcible entry

Can you confirm this?

Yes the T&C is easily understand because it is not in some technical jargon but a diagram.
