i just own a CQ40-125AX, performance wise is good, but the battery power i feel disappointed, i run with only the battery, about 1 hour 30 min then battery left 10% need recharge. any idea? or additional battery how much? got better extended battery available?

Added on October 6, 2008, 9:01 pmregarding the TETT sound...

once u installed windows vista, it will automatically set up the sound card driver for you, the sound card work in normal condition but the TETT sound keep coming out. try go to HP website download IDT Sound to update the driver, once successfully, the TETT sound will be no longer available.

this is my last few day experience.

my sister using a DELL notebook (company provided, dunno wht model), running Core 2 Duo on it, doing excel and word can able to reach about 2 hours 30 min to 3 hours. that why i shocked my lappy only can run 1 hours 30 min, although i understand Intel Centrino is best energy saving processor, but AMD processor can't be that much different.

so should i go for it?  hmm.gif
or getting the INTEL proc?
*
u need to understand ur need. if u r always using it without a power source of course i suggest u get a Centrino base lappy, but to inform u the price for a Core 2 Duo 2.0 is different about rm300-500 bucks (depend on model), for AMD of course is budget lappy. the only cons for CQ40-125AX i think is lack of power, overall is a reasonable price lappy. this is my 2cents, if u need more information, try to consult few shop about the performance. but for sure is, ur budget will help you to choose which lappy suit ur wallet.

this is my opinion. thumbup.gif

Thanks for testing. Too bad cant reach 2 hrs. Did u tweak the powers options? AMD should enable the IGP so Hybrid power can be utilized.

*
brother, if u get a Genuine MS Windows, sure u can ask the shop where u purchase the lappy, ask them to do the installation for you. normally is free 1, EXCEPT u r using pirated software, they won't entertain. Good Luck! thumbup.gif

As far  as i know, vista 32 bit sp1 will show until 4GB. but the 'usable' amount of ram by the windows itself is less than that..

thats mean 3GB ram for this model is the best suit? blink.gif

Thanks Bro...

Finally found my LYN userid  tongue.gif

Things are great... it's fast and it's stable... still stuck at 5.9 for memory running on 800MHZ -> perhaps should have gotten the Kingston Hyper Twin Series for faster performance...

Using Vista 32 bit for now. Will be installing XP Pro + Linux for triple boot.

Whether it was miscalculated for the price paid for the laptop or not - it's still a mystery as no one called...

CQ40 125AX + 4GB 800MHZ Ram + Freebies at RM2050  doh.gif

Added on October 11, 2008, 1:13 pmWhile ReadyBoost will work with other devices – such as SD Card, CompactFlash, etc. – here are the baseline requirements the regarding what ReadyBoost will work with:

The USB Key must be at least USB 2.0
The device must be able to do 3.5 MB/s for 4 KB random reads uniformly across the entire device and 2.5 MB/s for 512 KB random writes uniformly across the device.
The USB Key has to have at least 64mb of free space

anyone? any ideas? since we have a reader built-in to the system.

Dear All,

I bought it at MYPC, most likely it's a miscalculation of price as the price I was told was RM2250 but somehow during the payment... it was only RM2050... Don't think it'll be that cheap for now... So guys, don't expect to get RM2050. I've been dealing with the shop for a long long long many years... I'm still waiting for a phone call from the guys at the shop to tell me that it's miscalculated... Good friends with them there...

Anyways, they don't keep stock. They only order when you want it. I'm not sure whether they'll order for just anyone. It took me around 4 days to get the laptop as there was some stock issues with the supplier.

All the best.

The brands found working -> for SD card -> Sandisk Extreme 3 (Box says 30MB/s)

Memory Stick -> Those expensive ones will usually work. The one that came with the Notebook by Pendrive works fine... It's really fast. KingMax super stick works fine too smile.gif

ReadyBoost page on the properties page says it needs around 2GB for optimal performance. I'm thinking of getting 8GB either SD or the KingMax super stick which is really thin in size.

Anyone using Linux for this lappy?
*
icon_rolleyes.gif good, my gal f got a 4GB super stick, let me try first, if satisfy only go for 8GB 1... but sandisk extreme quite expensive right? shocking.gif

but i've read somewhere that ready boost wont have any impact on system that have 2GB ram or more.. btw, if wanna use ready boost, i would find a media card such as SD instead of USB drive. you can put it there without taking it out when keeping the lappy in the bag..

i already have 2GB on my pc, would this help? sweat.gif

We get 1 year full warranty with this laptop (email, phone and walk in warranty), so I suggest you contact HP if the product you receive is not up to standard and has a lot of problems. Maybe walk in to their service center in damansara heights and let them see. Who knows, the supplier/reseller might have changed stuffs or give u a refurbished/used one... hell, anything is possible in this day and age!

i suggest u bring urself to the HP service center at damansara height. nod.gif service very good there, got FREE Milo and Nescafe and even kuih-muih some times... thumbup.gif

Few days never checked this thread so many hot topics came out smile.gif

1) HDMI - no drivers are needed. Just install ATI Catalyst drivers and IDT HD Audio and you are all set. Get a HDMI cable, plug to LCD or plasma and comp should be able to auto detect external display. Can support up to 1920x1080 and 5.1 sound. I have tried with my LCD TV. Play HD video damn nice. Video and audio all in one cable.

2) Ready boost - If you have 2GB and above, you will notice not much difference or I would say no difference. If you still want to get, I suggest you to get a Class 6 SDHC card. Ready boost can support up to 4GB only. So if u get more than 4GB, u can allocated up to 4GB for ready boost and rest for storage. Since RAM is cheap nowdays, why not upgrade to 3 or 4GB. Much faster than Ready boost.

3) RAM upgrade - The system comes with 1GB of DDR2 667 RAM. If you are planning to upgrade, get another piece of 1GB or 2GB DDR2 667 RAM. DDR2 667 is not the optimum speed so if you have extra cash, remove the 1GB get 2X1GB or 2X2GB DDR2 800 RAM. Your system will be snappier. I've tried and benchmarked this.
*
shocking.gif oh... the original DDR2 1GB 667Mhz is changeable? how? did this lappy support DUAL CHANNEL? but if we put in 2 x 2GB DDR2 800Mhz, system will only show 3GB, am i correct? sweat.gif

Yup. Its removable. I have tested the comp with one stick and two sticks. Two sticks is faster little bit. Yeah if 32bit OS out of 4GB can use 3GB only. 1GB is missing.
*
oh... thats mean there is no point we put in 2x2GB? yawn.gif i'm currently running 1GB + 2GB 667Mhz, but i won't feel the system is slow, run smooth... rclxm9.gif
