sometime cannot connect to their network, report to them, they tell me no other customer report the fault except me sleep.gif"

Then I request to log a case after so many re-occurrence,

One of their staff call me and tell me they found the problem, but need at least 1 month to fix.

Nah~~ The 3.6Mbps is at "best effort basis" <- (Sounds familiar?)

Top most can get 320KBps, but usually can only get 150~250KBps during daytime. As you know, maxshit broadband powered by solar, nite time sure slow speed. smile.gif

U know what. With this maxshitbb, I am always signed out of YM after few seconds signing in!  doh.gif

And I can't repair my connection. It says error as my IP address cannot be renewed. Anyone had this problem?  rclxub.gif

Anyway, I managed to sign in back into YM after soooo many struggles using what I found in the internet - Ultrasurf. Makes me use YM smoothly. Finally...  whistling.gif

DHCP problem.. there is... i have 3 computers at home... sometimes i start one up with the other started it gives me an IP conflict... which sucks...dunno why it assigns the same IP to 2 computers....

repair does not work.. it will just resolve it self in a very short while.. repair will just fail at "renewing IP address".. you can set your IP to static if you are running a desktop... less of this problems...

there is a square panel at the bottom.. open the panel, take the battery out which is connected with small wires... unplug and there you have your battery out... better take it out cos it feels so hot like it is going to melt your modem.. DAMN china products...

anyways... today is the 28th... and the 1st is coming and re-start of the new month billing is coming... we can start to expect speed to get back up to our correct package.. stop whatever you are downloading and save it for the 1st (continue if you have more that you haven't download)... we'll strain our packages at full strain at the same time and see if it gives us the speed based on our package.. if not ... we can call and complain the shit out of them helpdesk and customer service... we are at least allowed for full speed based on our package for a max of 20GBs mar right... so that makes us have the right to fight for it if it does not reach at least 70% of the speed stated in the package...

you better make sure from your first KB till the last KB of the 20GB is running on at least 70% of your subscribed package...

MAXIS BEWARE...be ready for a jam...

Hey guys, I need some help here.

I'm on the USB modem package, speeds aren't too good but I guess we all know that.

Anyway, my problem is that just earlier today, my connection suddenly went wrong. I turn on the Mobile Connect software and I can find a network and log in, but I can't receive any data. Only the 'sent data' counter is running. I booted up the e620 tool for the modem and I can connect from there and surf normally. I can't reach their helpline either, I get a network busy message.

Maxis BB UNLIMITED usage!!! (max 20GB/month) WTF!!!

Don't use the word unlimited to fool customers.

Has any brought this matter up with the Comsumer's Tribunal (Tribunal Pengguna)?

False advertising don't you think so?

We are getting temporary speed bumps only!
1.2mbps..even a RM77 Streamyx line can get such speeds.

Time to boycott a company which actually exist only as a proxy for UMNO. This is one of UMNO's main funding source. All the money which you've been cheated of will be used to ultimately help a corrupted party become richer and stronger!

QUOTE

Saturday, 29 March 2008

Even though Screamyx is bad, it's still much better than Maxshit in terms of corporate attitudes. Maxshit's target is to con more money to fund the dacing, they never want to improve even after receiving so many complains, monthly average = 3 to 5 calls per user.
FYI, the recent CNY maintenance done by maxshit, is to implement the throttle on users, and definitely not to improve their service.
If they claimed the throttle is for Fair Usage Policy, fine, but I don't see overall speed improvement on other users(my house got the other maxshit victims, yelling everyday)
I got severe experiences with local ISPs, so far maxshit is the worst. Best still Time, good service and stable speed.

Last time i used Time's webbit before, good service and stable speed even though the top is only 384kbps. And most important thing, they tolerate p2p. Few times service being cut off because late payment, but they reopened the internet for me to pay the bill. Fun huh?
Shifted to maxshit because of Time wouldn't upgrade the service to faster speed. But now, aih~~~
Will go TM after dumping the modem back to the tower of corruption. thumbup.gif

Trust me, you DON'T KNOW what Screamyx did that made me KILL them OFF my list. There were a HUNDRED and TWO reasons why they suddenly cancelled my account! Stupid, lame excuseS. I said excuseS (with an 'S') because FOUR different customer service officers gave me FOUR different EXCUSES. Now, which one do I want to listen to? NEITHER! vmad.gif

Oh by the way, Screamyx better than Maxshit in terms of corporate attitudes?? I don't know if you have read enough, but Screamyx's corporate attitudes - you have not heard yet. So, you get the lay down of the cronies in Maxshit, while I heard abt the cronies in Screamyx. They're FAIR now - both are in the issue. doh.gif

QUOTE(bytefreezer @ Mar 30 2008, 09:35 PM)
Last time i used Time's webbit before, good service and stable speed even though the top is only 384kbps. And most important thing, they tolerate p2p. Few times service being cut off because late payment, but they reopened the internet for me to pay the bill. Fun huh?
Shifted to maxshit because of Time wouldn't upgrade the service to faster speed. But now, aih~~~
Will go TM after dumping the modem back to the tower of corruption. thumbup.gif
*
I was a TIME Webbit user last time too and I have to say that their service is good and their technical support is good. However, they have stopped this service now and only those remaining customers will be using it. Back to topic, Maxis was actually very good when they first launched but now it is just pure slow. Perhaps they are having too many subscribers thus causing them to change the policy and capping everyone ? hmm.gif

that's what i think too... the registration bloomed passed their expectations and their whole network can't support that many users now... so in comes some rules to regulate all users... hope they get this solved as soon as possible..

I think this thread should be rename "The Official Maxis Wireless Broadband Thread #2". It will make it more official and it sort a continuation of saga for thread #1........and to add, so that others can know 'officially' the nightmares and horrible saga the subscribers are going through. Just a thought!

To get a better signal, my personal experience........

1) Try to put your modem near the window.

2) Locate the best window in yr house/condo/apartment/office etc for the signal.

3) Some of our windows may have mosquito screens. If you put your modem next to your mosquito screen, (what i mean is that the mosquito screen is in between your modem and the external) before the signal reaches your modem it will sort of disperse. Mosquito screen will act as a signal distorter. Either remove the screen or put the modem outside of the screen. But i find that it better to remove the screen (but u can close the window). Glass will not affect the signal.

My thoughts..

how's the connection so far?? at one point i was trying to take maxis wireless broadband. however, after the technician came to my place and tested it, there's very low coverage so they cancel it for me. so i don't know whether i should get one or not because i actually need mobility.
there's one package from celcom which is very cheap, but then you have to purchase your own use modem. so that will cost me a bomb, so i decided not to take that.

Connection speed in my place is quite good but I'm not sure whether is it because I'm a new subscriber.

Oh and about the 20GB cap.. How does it work? ? Once I reach 20GB then? ? I will be capped at the lower speed forever? ? Or just the month? ?

Once you hit the 20GB limit, your speed will be capped at 256kbps for that month only.

It is called the fair usage policy, read it at their terms and conditions. The fair usage policy usually will be found in most terms and conditions of a wireless broadband provider, whether they really impose it or not is another question.

Don't worry you are not alone, many others are having lots of problem, even if they don't get frequent disconnections they are having speeds like a 56k dial up.

I'm had some fun with my 56kbps Maxshit Broadband last month. Very fun, paying RM 98 per month for 56kbps. "Nice" company, "good" customer service, "friendly" technicians.

It sounds dejavu to me. Hehe, 8-day cooling period, and followed up by 2 years contract, it's even worst than my "favorite" broadband.

Cheap? Beware of the gimmicks behind, 24 months is not a short period if the speed is sux after first 8 days. And normally they will make u feel happy and giv u full unthrottle speed in the first 8 days, wat will happen after that? you can click my siggy to find out urself. icon_rolleyes.gif

I agree , during your test period. The speed will be superb , i mean no slow downs , constant connection and stuff like that. Once after that , you'll come into reality. Thats how maxis traps you. lets provide you with good connectivity for 7 days so that you wouldn't rant. Once you have made up your mind , its time to con you

The price is so cheap for 3.6mbps broadband. Dude its not even 3.6mbps. you can't even reach 80% of the speed , let alone 1Mbps or at least 1.5Mbps !

Majority users of Celcom are having good times and speeds with it while only a small group are having some problems with it. Pretty much area dependent but Maxis Wireless Broadband is confirmed failure judging by the number of users complaining.

Celcom seems to be improving a lot. They started pretty bad , but now they are on the right track. Currently , they do not block ports for p2ping , it makes bit torrenting possible on the go (which is a good thing) , but do not expect anything for gaming as its 3g and the latency would be high. Apart from that , Celcom is part of the telekom group of companies (that includes tmnet) and they share the cables and the whole connectivity part with TmNet , hence you'll get better speeds as opposed to maxis whereby they have a small international pipeline

I've found out something today , maxis is even trotting my world of warcraft. Beat that biggrin.gif

well, im one of the earlier users of maxis wbb. i've seen their support going from best to good to bad to worse.

i still remembered the days where i posted about my torrent speed 100kBps here using 384kbps package. and that makes prasys want to use maxis wbb too tongue.gif but heck, it's not that speedy anymore.

Why the speed is not stable anymore huh?

Like today, I was downloading from Megashares with premium account, started with 50KBps, after several minutes, drop to 10KBps, after 10-15 minutes, the speed increased back to 50-60..
Aghhh, so tension la..

Maybe you should check with them (Maxis), if they really did send out the bill (I do not find any reason why they don't want to send the bill since they would like to encourage users to pay their bills), I can only suspect that your bill has been sent to the wrong address.

Select using "3G only" to avoid it from dropping to EDGE/GPRS. Are you on I2Go package?

Wow, after months of not visiting the site, it seems that Max-shit BB is still crap, makes me glad that i gave up the E220. Btw, the I2Go is still good. Downloaded a movie over the weekend (via Getbyte's FTP) which only takes 2 hours for 1GB. I've slowdown on download, been gaming alot. Latency to local is at 120ms and HK/Indon/S'pore at 180ms.

What he meant was that because during the PC Fair the promoters would be working hard to get new customers therefore Maxis Broadband will have more subscribers thus the service will degrade even more.

Well, on the bright side, Maxis did respond to my email and fixed my gaming ports so I can game again. (Yay!)
On the other hand, as I speak, I can't seem to stream Youtube videos, because half way through watching the video it just stops streaming.

How come your network provider is celcom 3G, as according to your attached image? I thought the maxis ZTE modem is locked to maxis simcard only? Have u found a way to unlock it? Share pls.......................or this is just a hoax? hmm.gif

ps - yr rssi signal is not so good. Ec/Io is too low means a lot of 'noise' disturbances on yr signal (that's my opinion)

Izzi is more or less the same too, so far I guess for 3G broadband it is going to be Celcom being the better than the rest provider. wink.gif

Wow, so many people having problem with their Maxis ar? doh.gif

I guess I'm just lucky then. Mine is getting better since I subscribed 5 months ago. Stable connection, even during thunderstorm. Yeah, on the modem it says "do not use during thunderstorm", but when Astro is out, what else should I do? tongue.gif

I suggest everyone ambush the customer service and let them panic a little bit. Or even further by forming a group and take this to the consumer tribunal. See how they like that! wink.gif

I guess 5 months isn't really that long, just continue it and when your contract ends, terminate it if the service is still below par.

I think Celcom Broadband's performance is better than Maxis, however it is area dependent and also very random that sometimes the performance might drop and sometimes it is excellent. Izzi should be alright too but I've heard many bad feedbacks on their service.

Just check on Celcom website, they also have some sort of Fair Usage Policy like Maxshit. Usage Limitation is 5GB per month.

More important thing is they reserve the right to implement it anytime when they think is require.

My Maxshit is getting expired in few months time. Planned to change to Celcom at 1st place. However, it will be any big disaster for me if Celcom start to implement these stupid policy as well. Probably after huge migration from wbb user to Celcom.

Still, best go back to streamyx I guess.

i wonder, why people comparing maxis WBB with streamyx?

wired VS wireless?LOL.

streamyx should be compared with maxis WIRED broadband, and not WIRELESS.

maxis WBB vs Celcom WBB is a better comparison.

One definite answer is that maybe they were previously users of TMNet Streamyx and were tired of the performance thus decided to hop over to Maxis Wireless Broadband and this resulted in the comparison of Maxis Wireless Broadband and TMNet Streamyx.

Bingo! Tired with Maxis wireless broadband. Have to go back for Streamyx since I don't want to risk myself in Celcom Broadband as Maxis did right now.

Disallow P2P / filesharing and ports blockage is killing me...Sad to say M'sia still too early for wireless broadband technology now

Many wireless broadband will start well and eventually die probably about 1-2 years later, however I don't think it will happen to 3G since handphones are able to use it too so some people might want the mobility as those wireless broadband such as TIME Webbit and Jaring Wireless Broadband isn't really mobile after all.

Well, my personal experience is contact them thru email is better. Most of the time u can get their feedback in the same date. However, keeping chasing them for the follow up is another important point. Customer always right 1. Their address is

CUSTOMERCARE at Maxis.com.my

Just remove the space and at and replace with @

not that i'm scared or anything but i think, ever since it changed to 72 sumthing2 it gets obviously slow, as in super slow, even DL accelerators with up to 10++ connections dont sum up to even 50KBps under HSDPA... what the hell man...

Most customer support from ISPs in Malaysia are really terrible as though they are "programmed" to repeat the same thing over and over again. So far I've found TIME's customer support to be the best based on my experience with them. Whenever the connection is down, they will give a detailed explanation on what happened unlike TMNet whereby they will just say there is a service interruption etc. By the way, hiring a less knowledgeable staff is cheaper. nod.gif

Since it is wireless, it is normal for the latency to be high so if you are looking for a smooth online gameplay then wireless broadband doesn't really suit your needs.

As i know, if i transfer ownership it will continue from my contract for remaining months.

But today, i called up maxis .. they say it will auto re-new to 18 months!! WTH !! mad.gif

3 months back, we did call up maxis few times, and even walk-in for transfer ownership and was told that can continue contract !!

Please don't believe all the mouth-sweet talks. Get and check all Maxis Terms & Conditions, understand the contract first before you commit to anything. It's the same for other contracts in other business transactions. That's the way to be safe from Maxis contracts (and other dubious contracts.)

it's 18 months now..

and i didnt know i could cancel the home voice service until now.
i want to cancel now..but they say because i purchase the modem myself..( which i also purchased from maxis)
i did not pay for the rental.. therefore i cannot cancel my home voice service..

what non-sense is that!?..i want to unsubscribed it. can i continue use my zte for other service provider such as celcom ?

Even it's much cheaper right now, but I'm sure that the Big-Snake will make sure you vomit out a big chunk of money after you sign the Devil Contract for 18 months. And plus countless frustration.

I am using RM98 package right now with ZTE MF600 modem and still under "octadecyl" contract. Is it possible if I buy my own USB modem to replace the fat modem (return it to Maxism) without changing the package of RM98?

Hmm, today the maxis technician came to my house and he idn't change anything or made any configuration on my PC. But Im glad that he admitted that Maxis BB signal was far below from expected outside my house and became worst inside. That's good coz I'm thinking to cease the contract (15 mth more lorr) after 12 complaints per month on this month only. Out of all 12 reports, two last reports stated that poor and no coverage at all in Ampang area, near the Hulu Langat junction. How could they sell such system at the first place eh? - daylight robbery??? sad.gif

He's quite helpful and not like them on 1800202000 who knews nuts, just telling us to shut off the modem & restarting them again. I've also told him about terminating the service because of poor coverage for last two months. I am not getting QOS more than 25% for most of the time and this is very dissapointing. Download speeds dropped to 6kBps and sudenly DC.

There're some terms in the clause that we should be aware....

1. 18 mth contract and penalty.
2. 3GB download limit.
3. fair usage.

And if you look at the maxisbb web page blamed that gmail having problems... This not true gmail having problems but maxis was the problem. How come other ISP such as from telekom can browse this web page easily? Hah try to blame others eh maxis???

Hmm just wait coz I'm in the process of drafting a nice letter for maxis. Hey maxis- watch out .... I'm comin'

Actually b4 the post earlier this is what happened..

Hi there, I'm staying in Tmn Melur Ampang and believe it or not, I've been using Maxisbb Power for the past two months. The enjoyment and fun was only for two weeks and now things goes the opposite. During the two weeks tenure, downloading was superb and experincing more than 200 kbps was something I'm proud.

Things changed and today I'm having < 20 kbps download speed - OMG. wow a 3.6 Mbps with a download speed of 20kbps. I'm a premium user for rapidshare.com and using IDM as the download manager. In my office with a 2Mbps connection sharing with more than 40 terminals still could have IDM download speed of more 150kbps at any time from rapidshare. And as premium user this is really a nightmare. Download from 7 sites simultaneously at <20kbps. WTF!

What have I done wrong? Even today at 7.30 pm (shouldn't be too buzy eh!?) I could not go in and test my bandwidth speed even from maxis website. Ashamed. ... I've called their so-called- to be 'experts' for the 10th time this month and even said to me , " what are you downloading", I replied back, "hey, If any of your customers had this power 3.6 Mbps you don't expect them just to read emails or ym's, where is my speed to download when I need it?", later I told him that I'm going to terminate the maxshitbb services. he replied, that I should pay the penalty for termination. Then I told him that I'm bringing this matter to Tribunal Pengguna on how lousy is your services and there are two reports concerning no signal coverage in my area and I've been given a case already. (starts with C and numbers) Seem he's not aware and behaves like a parakeet (parrot) and not reading previously lodged reports. then this weird female advert played. HOW RUDE! didn't even answer or even have the courtesy to answer my reply.

Okay, I've made a point, there's no use arguing with this maxshitbb peers. Today is the last week b4 the end of the month and I'm pissed off with their services. I'm sure to terminate their services and had few things in mind. I pity a lot of people including myself whom fell into their dirty tricks and tactics selling useless broadband services. As a word of advice - DON'T USE MAXIS BROADBAND. It's a regret for your lifetime and full of shit. It's for kiddies as seen in the advertisment.

Guys no point ranting here

just send an e-mail to mr. Darshan , you can find more about it in the other details. If we have enough people , we could make maxis to change their policy and we could enjoy wireless broadband. Its pretty simple. There is no point talking about your slow speed here as the maxis cybertroopers wouldn't do anything at all. They are just here reading this thread and monitoring our progress

yea, but then if you discontinue before the 12 months period, RM200 is chargeable.

QUOTE
Can I discontinue the Maxis Wireless Broadband Service anytime after the cooling-off period?
Yes, you may discontinue the service anytime after the cooling-off period. A handling fee of RM200 will apply upon discontinuation of the service. If you have used the Maxis Wireless Broadband Service for more than twelve (12) months, the handling fee of RM200 will be waived.

That means subscribers will be fined RM200 processing charges if they decides to discontinue their service before 12 months.

RM200 can almost buy a modem.

Is Maxis Wireless broadband fast?
Got as fast as Streamyx?
Good for games?

reply for dreamthief, alibabi, he-sham

Even there is a charge on the discontinue if not more than 12 month period, but if compare with last time, it is consider better a bit.

Here is my comparison.

Last time is 18 month contract
Now is 12 Month (consider as) contract

Last time, you can't terminate the service, only can transfer, if you really want to terminate you have to pay the penalty for the policy. Which is pay the amount for the months until mature of your contract (example: We use 8 month, Maxis advanced RM78 per month, terminate have to pay 10 month remaining monthly access RM78 x 10 = RM780!! freaky horrible!!)

Now the fees is RM200. Which is around 2-3 month access fee. If you start using 1-2 month already and really can't tolerate the speed, you may terminate and pay the processing fee rather than suffer for more long time.

The conclusion is, it is better than last time, a bit, probably... i guess

Maxis Broadband speed sometime is fast sometime is very freaky slow, because of it is using the signal instead of a fixed line.

If you are a online gamer, not recommended Maxis Wireless for you because will often dc. At least, use a fixed line (Maxis Wired Broadband, Streamyx etc...)

I guess they are probably losing a lot of potential customers, therefore they are now offering a connection without any contracts to attract people to subscribe.

OMG MAXIS JUST GOT PWNT !...This is good news and we should celebrate !

QUOTE
What do we mean by "No minimum contract period"?
Typically most Broadband service providers bind their subscribers to a minimum contract period. To make it simple for you, Maxis Wireless Broadband no longer requires this commitment from you.
Q2 What is the effective date of this new policy?
We will apply this new policy to all new and existing Maxis Wireless Broadband subscribers from 28th April 2008 onwards.

Bad news is :-

QUOTE
Will I be charged a penalty for the remaining months of my existing service contract when I discontinue the Maxis Wireless Broadband Service?
No. The minimum 18-month contract period no longer applies. A handling fee of RM200 will apply if you discontinue the Maxis Wireless Broadband Service within twelve (12) months from the date of registration. If you have used the Maxis Wireless Broadband Service for more than twelve (12) months, the handling fee of RM200 will be waived

Source : http://www.maxis.com.my/personal/broadband/bolt-on_faq.html

So look...The bad news is you gotta pay RM 200 if you say goodbye the service within 12 months. well they are certainly going to lose a lot of customers who have reached the 12 months contract period. Certainly , the rumours will spread around unless maxis comes up with alternative solution. The demand is going down but the supply is high....Maxis gotta figure out a way to increase the demand of their broadband service. RM 200 is tolerable if you ask me , at least you dont have to pay a grand or two. plus it doesn't come with an automatic 18-month renewable contract. So its way easier. Suppose you hate their service after 12 months , bam you say goodbye to it. I think they made this change because of the complains (that we) maxis users have made. So certainly , our voices are heard. those who sent e-mail to mcmc and the whole team , kudos and cheers. we have our voices and cries heard.

I think the RM200 should be waived as well. And this RM200 sounds like a penalty to me, just that they changed the name and reduced the amount. Anyway, I think maxis will waive it if you provide them a good reason, since many forumers terminated the service without paying any fees, no harm for trying, just walk-in to a maxis centre and ask for termination. If they asking for a RM200 handling charge, refuse to pay them, and consult Mr Darshan if they insist to charge you.

I know Maxshit is shit (say that again), yet I think I'll stick to it coz my area not much choice. Far WORST is DEFINITELY SCREAMYX. This is based on my previous personal experience with them and RIGHT NOW, the CONTINUOUS dc in our office. We are paying rm688/mth and yet the service is BEYOND the word TERRIBLE. And the worst part is, my call was dropped 3 times while speaking to the CSE before I got thru again and told the next CSE "I dont care if you don't do call backs, but you better do something if this call is disconnect, or we will disconnect your service of paying such large amt for such lousy connection!" Yeah, I said that - and I'm not even the boss! Haha~

I hate the speed Maxshit is providing (who doesn't??), yet to be honest, I've never had dc as TERRIBLE as Sreamyx! With Maxshit, I could be dc for a few mins, but with Screamyx, I dont even want to start saying FEW hours...Having said that, I'd rather carry my Maxshit modem to office rather than wait for that stupid DSL on my TM Billion modem to blink!! @#$%^&*!!

hi...

just to share something here...

maxis broadband is getting worst becoz of too many users,my friend is a network engineer,he told me...im the subcriber for this maxisbb on Nov 2006 and using it for only 1 month coz this time maxis have 1 month cooling period...

guys, you think how much the speed i get that time?around 700kbps above and im using starter pckgs!!!

BUT..............

the speed is getting worst when they advertise in paper,do promotion giler-giler,my officemate now using it already 1 year and the speed is drop to 100bps only and if you call their centre,it consider good speed, best effort basis!

it wireless ,maxis should limit the user...RM200 termination fee is a new policy...just wait n see...

Internet2Go is meant for business users , so maxis doesn't enforce strict policies like blocking ports , etc. So its possible to play games , p2p and things like that. You'll need a dedicated data card or a phone as a modem.

I called for one last time today.
I told the lady that I want to terminate and she told me about the RM200.

Then I said why am I supposed to pay for it when I'm not getting proper services?

Then she said she will revert to her manager and see how my case goes, then I can terminate without the penalty.

Added on May 3, 2008, 4:38 pmAnd personally I think the RM200 is just like a scam.
What handling fees? =_=

You can easily disconnect people's line when they did not pay their bills and now you need RM200 to terminate one's account?

Bullshit.

just e-mail to mr.darshan , express it out that you are a student and you can't afford to pay RM 200 for the termination fee. Ask him politely if its possible to exclude the RM 200 fee. send a cc as well to maxis. Just make sure you have your student id with you.

A thank you to all who have done well in standing up for your own rights.Do not let monopoly get in your way.

There is a new directive within Maxis that orders all their managers around the country to inform their heads if they know and hear complains that VIP will walk into their KLCC HQ Maxis Centre. Just recent, there were a few VVIPs who walk straight into their KLCC centre to file complains against them and Maxis bosses are getting really uneasy about it.They are making this order serious.

Dude,

This is wireless. There is no way you can reach 3.6Mbps. even if you are in singapore , at the most people can reach is like around 2.5Mbps , maybe 3Mbps at the most. There is no way you can reach 3.6Mbps. This is Wireless Broadband and your throughput is not constant. Maxis has clearly stated the speed is on best effort basis , plus we aren't using cable , so there are many factors that would cause this. You can complain to maxis or consumer tribunal if you want , but there is no point of doing so as this is the nature of wireless broadband tongue.gif

OK agree with you prasys..
but the point is..maxis advertise the 3.6Mbps unlimited wireless broadband..
IF the broadband is access control..some apps/program can be run ..and some cant..
THIS make the wireless useless..
THE free of browse internet and free to use the connection is deny..
we can accept the nature of wireless broadband which is depend on the condition..
but you get my point or not.???heheh..just an idea...

Nothing wrong with them advertising 3.6Mbps broadband but what misleads us is the fact that is unlimited. keep in mind its not unlimited , there is a 20GB cap for it. once you have reached it , your speed will be throttled to 256Kbps. So technically its not unlimited.

You are wrong , not all wireless are useless. IMO , maxis came up with this ingenuis idea because of the demand and they dont have enough bandwidth to deliver it. So , their technicians were being smart and say 'ey lets disabled p2p and some other applications so users can enjoy fast surfing speed and nobody would complain on this". Bam and they did it. Only maxis does this funny things. Celcom doesn't truly block p2p , and people are enjoying it. But now they are facing slow downs and things like that because celcom is overselling bandwidth. Dude , anyway welcome to Malaysia !

I am going to wait like 5more months , as I am not going to pay RM 200 early termination fee or as maxis calls it handling fees. There is nothing much you can do. soone or later you'll have to put up with it and live with it , just like what I am doing right now

U can terminate the contract if u can prove that ur connection very low... Like mine, i just subscribe after CNY and after 2 month use, my connection very unstable. Always go to UMTS although i pay RM78 for HSDPA. Also there r lot of user use the service at Bandar Baru Bangi.. So what I do was to send email to cfm and maxis.. u must tell them how many report that u have done... and wait their answer.. If still no improvement, send email to cfm asking about termination... For me i terminate before i send 2nd email to cfm but lucky cfm follow up my email n ask maxis waiving my penalty (rm1k).. And my bill (RM1k++), maxis CS call me to ignore the bills as they already waiving my penalty.. thats all.... I heard NCC also do the same thing... try it out if u want release from ur contract... whistling.gif

Some of the rep was really present a well perform customer service but is that every single of them? It is good to know who take care the customers and who pissing the customers off. Write the good feed back for those Customer Service representative who was giving u a satisfaction, and hope this can reduce the cases that customer being ignore / treat badly.

apparently, its more to "short" the contract to 12 month..in the time range, have to pay RM200 if u wanna terminate it..they called it "fee" doh.gif

but with good "skill" and reasons, u can get waived for that so called "fee"..

Hi all, i m moving to a new area end of this month and the only broadband available to me is either celcom or maxis. If maxis only power mobile is available, i presume that power mobile = wireless broadband using usb modem right? I do a lot of p2p but i m using xunlei now which is suppose to use port 80. Since maxis broadband is not recommended for p2p, do you think bt through xunlei (port 80) will work?

If not what other choice do i have? I m currently using streamyx 1mbps but i m getting 1.5mbps speed. i m actually quite happy with streamyx as seldom do i get disconnected or slow speed. I download at around 160kbps daily and i stay in USj right now. Problem is my new area don't have streamyx yet. Sigh, what other choices do i have?

Thanks.

Maxis blocks trackers and they know how p2p connection are established. xunlei doesnt even work on peak hours. It only works from 1 am to 6 am. Trust me. No other client works. last time xunlei used to work , but they managed to stop xunlei from working. it will connect to lots of peers , but you'll be downloading at 0.8Kilobytes/sec (the max it can go is 1 kilobytes/sec). Not recommended !

No big changes. I am using 3.6Mbps and now they have capped me to 256kbps cause i've exceeded more then 20GB. Now you wouldn't feel it on a 384Kbps package !

I am pretty happy with the speed tongue.gif. Keep in mind I am running Parallels on top of MacOS X. The clock is shown is wrong. It gets out of sync for an odd reason

At first, I was wondering is that our country internet was controversy. The threat for internet users who try to keep their identity as secret, thats why most the time I was carefully in every single word that sent out to the internet, no matter is chatting tools (eg:MSN live messenger) or forum, even youtube, there are a warning from power of controversy that inform to public that they could trace whoever against them through the IP address, and what will they do next I will have no idea. Anyone know is that cyberlaw exist at our country? we are protected or the power of controversy?

for those ppl that are on the 18 months contract and op for auto debit, do be careful when u cancel you package, do ask them to highlight so that they don't debit the remaining of the 18 months contract. coz i was charge for the remaining month which got my CC over the limit and have to go through the fuss of raising a dispute between HSBC and Maxis. gosh, i spend like a long wait on hold while they check, after 15 min or so, all they say is sorry for the mistake and they will debit back to my CC account..sigh...really crap man...

I can't decide between Celcom or Maxis BB.
Obviously I am looking at speed, but comes with a good package that is reliable.
I am hoping for an unbiase opinion too... asking for too much? doh.gif

They are throttling the ports. I've called them up and explained and yet no action. Please all i am asking from you guys is to e-mail them and tell them to unblock gaming ports during normal time as games don't really hog bandwidth

n406 , Please read the whole thread. It doesn't matter what package you use. Maxis does it in their side. So even if you use the el cheapo package or the expensive one its going to be the same

They block BitTorrent. no , i am fine with my maxis. Download speed is somewhat okay and its tolerable. They have capped me to 256kbps. So the maximum i can get is 32 Kilobytes/sec !

Q1) I wanna noe something about Maxis ZTE Modem (MF600) RM98/month... is it possible make it like this?
ZTE modem --> wireless router --> lappys??

Q2) The Maxis WiFi Modem (E960) RM158/month is 3G modem + wireless router rite?? the price is much more expensive.. and if i can make it Q1, why still need the E960 Wifi modem? coz the Q1 package is much more cheaper(jz need hv a wireless router to make it same like Q2)

Q3) abit out of topic, is it possible to use lappy wireless adapter to act like some kind wireless router??
modem --> lappy --> lappy's wireless adapter ---> wifi phone or other lappy
(phone and lappy oso can connect to the internet at the same time)

sorry, noob in network stuffs... hope LYN xi fu can help me...

A1) Yeah its possible to hook up to a router. It will work just fine. No problem with that

A2) Yep , its a two-in-one. 3G Modem + Wireless router. Its ideal for people who don't want to configure things. just plug and play and you have your own hotspot. Plus it acts as a standalone modem to (and its way better then the bulky ZTE MF600). Yep its possible as well

A3) Yes you can create ad-hoc connection with your laptop to share your connection over WiFi. I wouldn't recommend you doing this

Let me tell you this , you are better off with Celcom. Trust me , Celcom is far better. Unless you live in a maxis area then go for maxis. keep in mind that they block many funny stuff like p2p , ares and other stuff. not recommended if you are a p2per

I Personally Don't care if my speed is slow. I just want the ports to be unblocked. At the moment i am quite happy as VPN works. For me , I personally don't really bother about speed. Give me more then 256Kbps and i am happy and just make sure you dont block some of the ports that I use and i am set !

You'll have to pay for VPN Services. Its not free. i use it to access some stuff from my workplace and other things. Its for my personal use only. Its not meant for p2ping or other stuff. i've tested BolehVPN last time but unfortunately maxis blocks it or something like that

Dude , this is HSDPA/UMTS. Your speed will not be CONSISTENT. Empathise on that. sometimes it can be super good and other times it can be bad. If you do want to learn more , i have a couple of documents. you should read them. You can get it from me. I'll upload it , its around 10mb or so.

When I say that , I mean that to unblock that port , meaning that i can get full connectivity from that particular port. Its openvpn port anyways. You can't do much. Dont expect to use that port to torrent as it wouldn't work. now vpn is back to slow

Is it true?

If just want to use for a few month only, so need to pay handling fee RM200?

Due to the fact that Maxis cybertroopers are out here. I'll not be revealing all the details

You'll have to open your ZTE MF600 modem. I have installed couple of heatsinks inside the modem itself. One on the qualcom wireless chipset (it gets too hot) and other one on the ARM processor. After installing both of the heatsinks , i've found out the modem runs cooler. Hence better performance. Of course i am using a reflector too to increase the reception

Nextly , i'll install a fan as well to cool it down even further. I don't think i'll be needing that battery

I kinda regretted buying a lappy and maxis broadband without a proper investigation through the net, how ever according to the speed test above, my connection is around 3 times faster than my previous streamyx rm66 package. I am currently using maxis rm138 package.

Despite the good speed test, I felt my web browsing rather slow compared to streamyx. cry.gif

Honestly its worth it if you ask me personally. I am an ex-JARING WBB user. The reason why I stopped the service is mainly because i am out of coverage and it is harder for me to get the signal (since there are lots of developments in KL Area). Overall, I've had no funny issues like this crappy Maxis Broadband. Honestly , they should be marketing their broadband as "Maxis Restrictive Broadband - Its just the same as your corp. firewall"

Well , it seems to be worth it at a glance. But at what cost ?. Port blocking ? Unable to p2p ?. I am willing to tolerate if they block the ports and allow p2p traffic till we reach 20GB or our limit. Then they have the rights to block and cap our bandwidth. But this is insane , they block the ports (fine) , and they impose a 20GB limit. It seems to be a joke. Oh yes i am still on this maxis bb , i'll switch back to streamyx once my phone line case has been settled by TM.

This is the worst broadband ever. I think I should have opt'ed for Celcom instead of Maxis in the first place. Its just that their crappy promotion seems to be too good. Heck the agent event told me that p2p wasn't blocked (at that upon of time) and I saw in front of my eyes that it can reach 100-200kilobytes/sec and online gaming wasn't a problem back then. But now things have changed.

Its just nice for surfing the web , thats bout it.

smile.gif chill bro .. i'm just a surfer so i might not feel like what you had felt. the only reason why i opt-ed for maxis was because of their new policy waived minimum contract and reduced termination fee ..

i could only afford rm50+/- monthly payment and i couldn't find any other alternatives, so here i am, a week old maxis bb user ..

i've seen you posted a lot of tips, so i was hoping to get to share some from you.. didn't have any intention to stir your mood actually notworthy.gif

No , not to stir mood or so. You may want to relocate your modem. Keep an eye on your signal. If your RSSI is around -60 or better yet -58. That means your signal is superb and by right you should get good speeds. I am just expressing it out. In terms of price ratio its not worth it. But if you don't have other choices

I would be posting screenshots or some of my heatsink installation and other things

rclxms.gif will be waiting

i only managed to get -88 ~ -101 .. do you have any idea why RSSI strength doesn't to be a right indicator of my speed ? because it's like wacky sometimes : RSSI -85dbm can be suck and it can be fast. while some other time, > -100dbm but i had a plausible experience.

how bout DNS setting, some says it helps but i've tried OpenDNS and *poof* lost connection doh.gif

Well you may want to use this DNS address :-

Read more , it does "fix" the disconnection issue

Primary DNS: 202.75.129.101

Top most can get 320KBps, but usually can only get 150~250KBps during daytime. As you know, maxshit broadband powered by solar, nite time sure slow speed. smile.gif

Sounds rather slow for top speed also. if by calculation, you should have get 450kBps. My gf have the problem with 384kbps also, she complained to the ISP and they increase the speed of her service.

Guys, my RSSI reading on ZTEMF600 is -59dbm. Upon checking with MAXIS, that is the perfect strength to get full bandwidth speed.

But why, for the past 1 week, i never get more than 380k for my Advance package?..Maxis told me that with this RSSI, I should get ~500k.

The setting is correct, UMTS on my ZTE modem.

P2P Traffic no , they block. Its clearly written there that maxis blocks p2p traffic at all costs. So they will take no action. If you want to use a download manager , use FlashGet or something else. I am assuming that you are using it to download stuff off eDonkey/BitTorrent which is not allowed. They are upgrading towers by towers to block these applications. So you might be lucky for the past few months , but when it is your time , you'll have to suffer. Lately they have blocked BT Life seeder

So you might be lucky for the past few months , but when it is your time , you'll have to suffer. Lately they have blocked BT Life seeder
*
That mean we only can use maxis bb to surf the net now but not download anything, rite?

Exactly. That is the purpose of this broadband. Its for the 'lulz'. No seriously , no p2p. However , it will work from 1 am to 6 am. So you are correct. Don't be surprised if they tell you that we block p2p and blah blah blah.

You can , VPN bypasses all of these. If you are into BitTorrenting , I would like to suggest you to opt for Torrentflux or any torrent services that allows you to grab your data via HTTP/FTP. FTP and HTTP aren't blocked and they can't control. Thus it can give you full speed of your connection. Please do keep that in mind that you do have a 20GB bandwidth limit a month !

Like I've said , they are blocking lots of trackers. Everyday new tracker starts to pop in so they'll block trackers. So it seems that they have managed to trace. It wouldn't take long for them to block that as well. Its clearly written that they throttle p2p usage and yet you want to ask them to fix it

u using starter package 384kbps (rm68) ..So the higher download is around 45kBps to 50kBps

kbps= kilo bit persec
kBps= kilo byte persec

1 kBps=8kbps

So 384kbps/8=48kBps

not make any wrong with small b and big B

There is nothing much to tweak on Maxis Broadband. Its there and its being controlled by maxis. anyhow , I would like to share this great application with you guys (Hotspot Shield). So if you guys are having some issues with certain applications (i.e low throughput) , give this a shot. It might do the trick. It certainly did for me.

It will use the proxy automatically. You may want to try some p2p applications. If you do notice , it will connect to tracker and you'll able to get some stuff off p2p. The speeds are slow but its way better then say uh unable to torrent or so

Its certainly not bad for surfing. But your latency is awful , 483ms for kuala lumpur. You should be getting around 280ms to 300ms. But 483 ms is insane !

hey how about downloading stuff from rapidshare (premium user)
is it ok in term of the speed?

Added on June 18, 2008, 9:55 pmhey i called Maxis tonite asking about the USB Modem package
he said there's no such limitation like before
it's unlimited
but reading the posts here, i guess they cap until 20Gb
i think it's great compare to Celcom just 5 Gb
and they reduce ur speed from 3.6Mbps to 128kbps
how ridiculous is that?
i'm their new victim...
kinda think to grab Maxis now

They'll say unlimited. They'll give you cock and bull stories such as they don't block any services , Dynamic IP , blah blah blah blah blah. The speed is okay provided you are within the coverage area. They cap till 20GB , once you hit 20GB , they'll cap you to 256Kbps instead. But its possible for data burst to occur , but they'll just throttle you to 256kbps

I want to know maxis broadband stable enough to load lowyat.net, msn, mirc, normal surfing , email, ebanking? Does maxis give their WBB users dynamic external IP or internal IP? (this is important to me because I do use Mirc sometimes).

I tried out their mobile internet at RM99 /month and I have to say I had a very good experience with maxis. I don't use Bit torrent so I didn't have much problem with that. I was also given an unique external IP address and I have no problem logging on to MSN/Yahoo Messenger.

So , my question is, can this experience be replicated to their RM68/month wireless broadband service?

thanx for answering. (thinking of subscribing to the lower end service)

Now with MSN you might face some problems such as frequent disconnection. Yes , maxis does give their WBB users an External Dynamic IP Address (not an internal one). This allows you to use rapidshare , IRC and other stuff as IP is truly dynamic

If you want to torrent or any other thing , you should switch to other broadband provider or subsribe to some VPN Service like I do such as Torrentflux or bolehtorrent or so. It enable you to use p2p and other 'restricted applications'. If you don't have a fixed line , chances are very slim. You must reside within a maxis fixed line area service (and not telekom)

Latency is the key factor here. It takes approx ~0.11 seconds to ping lowyat as opposed to streamyx ~0.02 seconds. So sites do take some time to load. As for downloads , its fairly fast. Overall you shouldn't be facing any problems for surfing and general stuff. Its just that the modem is crappy and maxis broadband is crappy as opposed to their Maxis unlimited internet. Both of them are on different ip range (For maxis unlimited data its not 58.<can't remember>.x.x and for maxis broadband the range would be 121.120.x.x). Oh as for XDCC (DIRECT transfer) , maxis has blocked that as well

I do believe Maxis is still the fastest if you download stuff from RS as a premium member. I get about 300 kbs MAX, and about 150 average using download managers (with burst download). But that is only when maxis doesn't f*** up.

Maxis = pathethic.

Hello, since everyone here is using Celcom wireless broadband, i would like to gather some feedback from you guys before deciding which service that i would like to get (either celcom or maxis). Could you guys comment about Celcom wireless on the following:

1) connectivity
2) speed
3) coverage (i always travel to Kelantan, Perak, Penang, Melaka and KL)
4) customer service when lodging complains.

please comment.

1) Pretty much it is okay. Its pretty straight forward and maxis assigns you dynamic IP which is way better then celcom !

2) You can't say this for wireless as speed isn't constant and it will never be constant all. Its hard to judge. But i can assure that so far , the speed is good (I can download stuff around 60-80 kilobytes/sec and sometimes it can hit up to 250 kilobytes/sec

3) Whoops , Maxis doesnt cover Kelantan yet for 3G. You might be forced to use EDGE or GPRS. Slower speed but it gets you connected anyway

4) Superb what can I say. They are polite , thats about it. they dont really know in and out of networking but they are pretty polite !

What package are you on? It includes the modem? Maybe you should make official complain to them, record your complains, then make official complain to MCMC. If their service doesn't meets the minimum requirement, MCMC will take action on Maxis and you might not have to pay them RM200. There's a thread somewhere here that guides on complain to MCMC.

To get the wavier of the fees do the following :-

1) Write to mr.darshan or MCMC and complain the speed is slow and say that your pings aren't stable. Facing disconnections and other crap. Include screenshots and trace route results as this will boost them. CC one to maxis

2) Maxis should call you up and follow up on the issue

3) Wait again and then write to maxis and say you're unhappy with the sevice and request for the service waiver

4) Pray that they'll waive. iF THEY don't just send a complain to mcmc again

It works !

I think we should complain about Maxis big fat white lie "No contract period". They just changed the term to "handling fees" to mislead unwary customer...who wants to complain to mcmc? Or maybe just write to the Star?

Thanks..previously i was looking at the USB modem only...looks like those package applies for the ZTE modem only?

So the small USB modem is much expensive than the ZTE modem i suppose!

Click to find on more

RM 68/RM 98 package is meant for the ZTE Modem. I'll have to tell you that its not worth it to use maxis , unless you're just into surfing only

i have a question, prasys .. i didn't register my account yet at maxis.com.my/broadband and for the first time i tried last night. it requires me to enter my BB sim-card number for it to send me a temp password. but then i realized, how am i going to retrieve the temp password ? do i need to pull out the sim-card from the modem and push it into my phone ?

They ask for SIM Card Number ?. I think they'll issue the password via the Internet or something like that. You'll have to pull out the sim and take note of it

Yes , ZTE MF600 modem aka the RM 68 package you can share with friends. The ZTE MF600 itself is a Modem + Router. All you have to do is buy a switch or hub (switch are generally expensive then hubs but they are better as they don't cause a collision tongue.gif). So you can get a switch very cheaply and use it with the ZTE MF600. If you want wireless functionality then you can get a Router to do it for you. You'll be just needing the switch for the lousy ZTE MF600.

KEEP in mind you can't port forward or p2p with Maxis Wireless

Yes. p2p anything that uses peer-to-peer technology. This broadband is just meant for surfing. Thats about it. YouTube streaming is so-so. The best it to test out the 7 days trial period

just want to know... do maxis have their own international links? those links using satellite connection or cable connection.. from what i heard ... other telco companies like Digi and Maxis are considered as TM customer as international link cables in Malaysia fully own by TM, which mean if TM links lousy, all other telco will also become lousy. which also mean no matter which isp u are using, u will still be affected by tm if connect to international.
