Paid for 1 month only. service/connection is good. Just that my company offer streamyx (company benefit) , so i dont need maxis bb anymore. u really wanna continue? if u want, i would prefer payment for 11 months, (78 X 11 ). thank you

QUOTE(prasys @ Jun 19 2008, 04:47 PM) Latency is the key factor here. It takes approx ~0.11 seconds to ping lowyat as opposed to streamyx ~0.02 seconds. So sites do take some time to load. As for downloads , its fairly fast. Overall you shouldn't be facing any problems for surfing and general stuff. Its just that the modem is crappy and maxis broadband is crappy as opposed to their Maxis unlimited internet. Both of them are on different ip range (For maxis unlimited data its not 58.<can't remember>.x.x and for maxis broadband the range would be 121.120.x.x). Oh as for XDCC (DIRECT transfer) , maxis has blocked that as well What is XDCC? Is it direct download such as Rapishare & Megaupload?

QUOTE(digswell @ Jun 30 2008, 10:19 AM) Something like mIRC direct tranfer Oic, I thought it's direct download like Rapidshare. Thank You for the information. Going through this thread, can I conclude that Maxis has blocked p2p applications ? And if so, is it 24/7 or they allow for p2p at certain times ?

They do allow at certain times. That is from 1 am to 6 am. But to be honest. A 650MB file took me 3 days to finish it (that is from 1 am to 6 am). plus Disconnection totally kills the connection. It takes a couple of minutes for it to re-establish as it doesn't notify the PC on it (since the ZTE MF600 acts a router itself). Not worth it if you're into p2ping. Honestly , for me. It was a joke . It used to be good but now its just getting bad. But since most of the folks have said goodbye to Maxis , the speed might be good as there are less subscribers

Owh, I thought they totally blocked p2p applications. It is rally a joke to know that it is only allowed at night and the speed is paltry, as you said. And since it is always disconnected, then one has to check the connection frequently to make sure that the Internet is running. If not waste electricity switching on PC, thinking that it's downloading when actually it is not.

Well it does reconnect but the problem is maxis requires you to open up your web browser before they activate your connection. every time you connect to maxis broadband , you'll have to fire up your browser whereby it redirects you to their home page (which is annoying). This defeats the purpose for leaving it downloading over night. In order to overcome this , you must regularly run a script whereby setting to launch Internet explorer every now and then to stimulate some web activity !

Have to open up browser first before activating connection?? Hen ma fan! Then after opening browser, certainly have to restart p2p application, if not surely the apps can't resume, aiyayayayayayayya.. And yet there's still people exceeding the 20Gb cap ? Weird, LOL Considering the fact that p2p apps can only be run at night and the frequent DCs..

Its still possible to exceed 20GB. I've exceed a couple of times. Last time it was possible to torrent during the daytime with Xunlei. Then they blocked that but BitTorrent came to the rescue with BT Lifetime seeding. then they blocked that as well. Slowly they are blocking things to ensure customers can enjoy best surfing speed ever. Its true. Surfing speed and download speeds are fast. So if you're into surfing and other things then it shouldn't be a problem
Yes , if your maxis gets connected , you'll have to activate it by opening the browser. Your browser will automatically redirect it to their site. Voila you're activated. 'Activation aka sign on' process doesn't work if you open your MSN Client or any other thing. You'll have to use your browser. I've tried that. As for p2p , it takes like 15 minutes for it to notice that its ip has been changed , before it starts to drop all old connection and re-establish them. So go ahead and figure it out !
If you're looking for a broadband whereby surfing speed is assured then look no more. Maxis Broadband delivers that. That is if you're into surfing !

The thing is that I don't surf much, & I don't really need mobility as I don't surf while on the move. I am more into downloading movies and music albums (though I don't have time to watch the movies, too but just download it before the links was removed or afraid that there are no more seeders) .
Just wondering, is Maxis Broadband independent from TMnet ( I mean does maxis borrow / uses TMnet infrastructures or do they have their own ? )
