No, Ubiquiti is not willing to further optimize performance on PPPoE due to it being a dated protocol, their hardware is perfectly capable of it, people can pull up to 10GB on it but never via PPPoE afaik
I feel the same with it, I tried to get into it once but in the end just went with Ubiquiti since I needed the CCTV for my parents, or else I'm honestly down to learn Mikrotik considering the amount of control it gives to the end user

Yeah I’m switching back to ubiquiti too

Smart queues is enough to justify never reaching my 1gbps internet connection. And now with added censorship and hijacking, having multiple vpn connections active for different vlans and devices will be a godsend

But I’m downgrading from SE to cloud gateway max. Hopefully performance will be okay with my gigabit + sqm + ids idp

Where did you getting the UCG Max? Still waiting for it in SG store. I'm considering this or rb5009. But unbt network app is the main attraction for me to finally use unifi gateway and ap.

You can just use ubiquiti teleport which is their own wireguard, pretty sure even Unifi Express has it.
*
Teleport is to set up a VPN Server, right?

My use case would be as a VPN client, as in whatever existing VPN account I have I will apply it on router level.

is dot or doh better?

i did dot at router, cauz my users r not savvy enough to go browser enable doh (go figure).

You can test here if it's working or not

For home user it doesn't matter.

From end user standpoint, doh is better.
From network admins, it's dot.

It doesnt matter if its dated, a lot of ISPs still use it even abroad. TM aint gonna change from it anytime soon either. They chose to use to not have a dedicated hardware for it and utilized CPU to handle it, its crazy that they only bumped the frequency of the CPU rather than completely upgrading it for their newest highest range UDM Pro Max.
*
Not wrong but that’s just how Ubiquiti do stuff sadly. Good hardware design but bogged down and tainted with semi ass software

From what I heard the UCG Max runs HOT (~70 deg) so you going to have to make sure you provide adequate cooling to it, performance is also half assed since it’s one of their brand new products off the line compared to like UDM

Yeah then Ubiquiti can do that, with how many client with the UCG Ultra unsure but it definitely can’t do 8 simultaneously like my UDM SE

I keep seeing a lot of peeps asking about max speed when speedtesting Unifi Ultra 1GBps and 2GBps.

TL:DR, if you're on Unifi Ultra, and the LAN port you have right now is only Gigabit (10/100/1000MBps), then you'll only be seeing a max of 940MBps down. This is normal due to the limit of the port itself. for upload, a max of 940MBps (for 2GBps line) and 500MBps (for 1GBps line).

In order to see down speed of at least 1000MBps for 1GBps line, you'll need at least a 2.5GBe ethernet port on both ends to be able to see the speed.

Anybody here who is on 1Gbps package can get 999Mbps download speed on speedtest?

Just got my free upgrade (800mbps-1gbps)on 3rd sept 2024
Got the D-Link Model no : DPN-FX3060V (black) old firmware v1
Cat7 + 2.5port on dlink connected to my 2.5 lan motherboard(auto nego with 2.5gbps) = 940-950mbps only
make a report and 1st lvl technician came on 5sept but failed to fix the issue reported which cant get >1000mbps
technician filed report for EC team (higher lvl)
Ec team (unifi elite)came on 9sept and do diagnose which is changing router / open higher OLT / upgrade firmware
Problem fixed

Got constant speed >1000mbps ( average 1040-1060mbps) now with the free router DLINK DPN-FX3060V (Firmware ver:DPN-FX3060V_V2.0.3)
Based on the technician need to use the v3 firmware and some configuration on cabinet side
My area using Huawei Infra

It will be 960Mbps for most 1Gbps users even with a 2.5GBe ONU and 2.5GBe devices.

Unless you're lucky with a properly configured speed cap profile, else it will be 960Mbps.

Is there some way to filter the devices using the VPN client by MAC address or something similar for your UDM SE?

Asus has the VPN Fusion feature for their TUF AX4200 that lets you decide which device goes through VPN.

Most enterprise brands typically enable you to filter VPN tunnels via vlans.
