QUOTE(blackbox14 @ Sep 10 2024, 09:46 PM) Yup meant VPN Client not server. Fwiw, I ordered an Asus AX59u yesterday for around RM430 (including delivery) via Shopee 9.9 sales. It’s for my mum’s home (I reckon she doesn’t need Merlin, lol) which I’ll be spending more time at over the next few weeks (she’s recovering from surgery), so I should be able to test out the WireGuard (using Swedish Mole provider, not mentioning the name because TM bastids are voyeurs here) performance. May take some time though since I am switching her ISP to Maxis and have yet to get the transfer ID. Earliest I can share results might be next week. Also, I edited my previous post a bit, so the alternative I added to the end might interest you. That info helps a lot, thanks. I can narrow down the choices based on that and my budget now. QUOTE(blackbox14 @ Sep 10 2024, 09:35 PM) I do like the Flint 2 more as a package, but my main issue with it is that the Shopee seller is overseas and not a Shopee Mall certified store. fair enoughMikrotik, Ubiquiti and ASUS are all available locally, making warranty claims much easier in the event of DoA or any other issues. it is their official store despite not being mall (ps, shopee preferred/mall sellers have to pay more fees) and yeah it is coming directly from them from HK so it will take some time you can see it is linked to from https://www.gl-inet.com/where-to-buy/ |

QUOTE(yenchenje @ Sep 10 2024, 08:30 PM) As someone that's running Unifi full stack for my network, it's like a drug to me personally, once I get one thing I want more, that might also applies to you Is that because of software based processing in Ubiquiti?Considering you are quite technical from your conversation, Mikrotik might be your bread and butter, or even better, use OPNSense as your main and the rest just mix and match and DIY yourself Also from what I can gather, PPPoE on Ubiquiti is not as fast as maybe even the Archer C9, Unifi isn't that optimized to use PPPoE protocol and it's more suitable for using like iPoE, if you ever want to push more speed, that might also be a limiting factor. Currently my UDM SE can only pull around 850-870, max I've seen is 910-920 on my 1Gbps, but that might just be an OLT limitation on my side and might again DIFFER from you |

AX59U was one of the models I was looking at because I have limited space where my network equipment is placed. Standing also helps dissipate heat better there. QUOTE(blacktubi @ Sep 10 2024, 10:47 PM) I actually bought their AX6000 router, thought of reviewing it. I had their AX1800 model (Flint 1) and liked it, but would not recommend it. I got it early when its firmware still didn’t have GUI for PPPoE, so had to SSH into it in order to get it connected. Then it had some connectivity issues with Apple devices and I had to lock the wifi to 80Hz in order to mitigate it. AdGuard home built-in was great, but it would stop all blocking every other week and required a reboot (nightmare for Unifi users because we need to play the IP pool lottery). Firmware updates did fix many bugs, but introduced new ones as well. Last firmware update gave me this weird issue where latency started increasing with distance from the router. At that point I considered flashing stock OpenWRT on it, but got lazy and just went back to my Asus AX86u with Merlin+amtm for the reliability. I like what GL.iNet do, but they need to do it better.Well I would say, it's buggy and the firmware QA not on par with the mainstream networking OEMs. Support is non-existent as well. Yup, they can fix the software feature bugs easily. But whenever the WiFi radio gets involved, it took them forever to fix it if they can even fix that.I like what they’re doing with the firmware too but it seems that they have no idea how to optimize the WiFi radio to be really robust and problem free. |

Other than DoT or DoH performance, may I know how good is TP-LINK BE230 wireless performance on an AX3000 client against AX72?. Should I pay slightly more to get AX72 or BE230 is justified???
I saw Dong Know's review that BE230 is still relatively better even on an AX client when it comes to download speed both near and far This post has been edited by jasontanky: Sep 11 2024, 12:25 AM |

Probably because the driver is proprietary blob only accessible by upstream vendor.I like what they’re doing with the firmware too but it seems that they have no idea how to optimize the WiFi radio to be really robust and problem free. Like the infamous linksys wrt-ac* that that shipped with broken mwlwifi driver since day one, and never gets fixed to this day because the development has been ceased. QUOTE(blackbox14 @ Sep 10 2024, 09:46 PM) Yup meant VPN Client not server. You can just use ubiquiti teleport which is their own wireguard, pretty sure even Unifi Express has it.That info helps a lot, thanks. I can narrow down the choices based on that and my budget now. UDM-SE is way over my budget, haha. Now as per what dev/numb said I need to make sure UCG-Ultra can even act as a Wireguard client. Otherwise it's ASUS for me. |

TM aint gonna change from it anytime soon either. They chose to use to not have a dedicated hardware for it and utilized CPU to handle it, its crazy that they only bumped the frequency of the CPU rather than completely upgrading it for their newest highest range UDM Pro Max.I feel the same with it, I tried to get into it once but in the end just went with Ubiquiti since I needed the CCTV for my parents, or else I'm honestly down to learn Mikrotik considering the amount of control it gives to the end user |

QUOTE(tng55 @ Sep 10 2024, 09:54 PM) you're going to be getting >500mbps almost never and even >100mbps is already a rarity. its quite useless to be getting max performance via TM 'test server'. its all a marketing hoax.just try getting downloads off majority singapore sites, see what sort of speeds you're going to achieve. |

My unifi 800mbps has been successfully upgraded to unifi pro 1GBPS with change of new Dlink modem-router combo , 1 month after I wrote an email to TM online customer service.
For those not yet upgraded since last year, please write in to TM for enquiry. And remember to ask them to give you the reference number for follow up purpose. I got one question - UnifiTV legacy Ultimate pack has this option free streaming service. If I activate this, is it FOC ? can disney + be streamed on PC or need to use the app only? thanks |
