just wonder why ppl still buying brompton even the price quite steep compare to others...i just cannot brain myself

brand value, built, folded size and its mechanism, warranty and etc

it is pretty much similar idea towards smartphones.

the people still getting iphone even the pricing skyrocketed on every years, while they can opt for others & cheaper.

it's a cult. and status recognition

it depends u see it as a commute tool…or piece of industrial art, or a token of conversation in certain social circle.

I found an offer, an Exitway brand, fixie...but its fixed with coasting ability... chrome body / and stated as chromoly steel...
used unit...going for RM1.2k

1) is the fixie a good buy? (I know i'm asking this in a folding bike section, but would like to get your thoughts on this)

2) Or I should go for a foldie in the range of RM800+? (Brand new, 7 speed , hi ten steel)

1) stylo? rage urban are for many fixed gear cyclist,. depends on u actually. many parts easy to find. easy to maintain but bigger storage

2) try to look for used bike. search slowly. nowdays, the RM800+ bike are actually crappy less than rm500 bike last 3-4 years ago.

anyway, just to make this thread active. i wanna share some of my pix doing maintainence of my bike since no hardcore distance cycling during this month.



im changing my pikes shifter (2s left) to better remote fork lock. and the result, shifting are pretty fast!.. old shifter broke already

change my fnhon saddle, fizik arione cx to fabric scoop flat. do some lubing on my headset bearing and tighten the hinge. pix i took when test out the bike



im also changging the bartape, cleaning up my doppelganger fx. change cable housing and reroute cable on the bike to look more simple, nice and clean.

Looking for sifu advise for tyre and inner-tube replacement due to benjol on my Dahon 20" foldie. Currently I think is 406 20" x 1.35 tyre.

1) Can I replace with 406 20" 1.5 or 1.75 tyres ? Will it fit into existing rim ?

2) If I get 1.5, for the inner tube should I get 20x1.25-1.5 or 20x1.5-1.75 ? What is the impact, pros and cons ?

if im not mistaken ecosmo or something like that. but dont forget, ira equipped with carbon fork

1. can coz still 406 wheelset
2. both can. not much impact. if u use larger than 1.5, need to be careful when installing it. otherwise ur tube will stuck between rim and tyre and can pancit

Which folding bike would you recommend as an entry level 20" bike? Looking at something for casual riding and bang-for-buck.

Casual riding I think any bike that suits ur budget can do
But when u start to fall in love with riding and got poison the story is different already

What would you recommend that is bang for buck then? Something that can be upgraded to a certain extent in the future.

If you buy a cheap foldie then don't think for part upgrades. It just is not worth it.

Sell off or dump the cheapo and buy a full-fledged premium foldie when it comes the time to upgrade.

Lol that is what I been asking for, recommendations for an entry-level bike that is bang for buck which has the potential to upgrade in the future.

Hello everyone. I just wanna ask something since dcs* not replying. I wanna ask where can i get the latest Pikes?

I've check the net but it doesn't seem like any shop carries it. (maybe i didn't search hard enough). It seems like there's changes with bicycle shops eg. this shops used to sell Dahons but stop being a distributor, that shop now not selling 3sixty anymore etc etc

its a little confusing who's selling what brands nowadays.

Do these brands (3Sixty, Pikes, Dahons)only available online (Shopee,Carusell etc)?

Ah Thanks for that info!! Just contact them and currently they only have 3 colours left. I have to think hard between Pikes or 3Sixty. Do this support 107kg-ish guy? or should i wait for the B's? I found out ppl are selling B's like 11k and above at carousell!! 11k!!!! If they goes 7k i maayyyyyy......consider But as of now, maybe Pikes and 3sixty.

basically pikes or 360, they both are similar. not much difference but then you'll see more pikes on the road instead.

not sure on the supported weight for pikes, but the B could support max 110kg.

nowadays the B is running out of stocks from authorized seller. thus, those you see with 11k are from the bloody scalpers.

i bought a cheap fromchina folding bike last year for about rm3xx inclusive of shipping

2. which groupset for wide range. like 11 speed for mountain and road. Is it needed since its 20"?

use schwalble marathon plus or big apple tyres then

FnHon is kinda popular lately. for about rm3k u can either get a sora groupset or a tiagra (add abit more)

get a 406 wheelset, you'll have more tyre choices to play with

i am not sure about campagnolo…

but of course you can use shimano from tourney to ultegra. foldies mostly using rb parts.

foldies we just dump whatever parts that's working best for the wheel size. does this explain to your question?

chainring u might need to change the whole crankset since foldies normally using 130bcd. 52/39 or 52/42 is common for 20-incher.

cassette wise some of here even using custom 11-18t…but mostly 11-28t, 11-25t, 11-32t, 11-36t depends on your terrain, wheel size, single or double chainrings setup too.

RD if 16-incher must use short-cage.

FD no need worry…plenty of mod parts even if your frame don't have the FD mount.

shifter just need to check the compatibility to your RD.

are you come from rb and need a smaller bike to travel around?

going from rb to foldie for quick cardio. not much time nowadays. rb i use to bring to some place and cycle for hours. probably won't even consider clips.

d9 is using hydraulic disc brake right?

why not just get the tern verge p9 and save all the time and hassle to mod? If you can afford, look at Tern BYB S11, smaller footprint.

if u want road bike feel…better look for Pacific Reach.

but seriously…when you compare 451 with 700c rb, u will feel the size not much compact…better just ride rb. expectation vs reality is cruel. that's why many people bought bigger size folding bike eventually go back to rb. when you are having a folding bike that is not compact enough for portable, and it's not as fast as road bike, then you know what i mean.

my personal ideal size for folding bike:
1. Exocet Flying Fish with 406 wheelset
2. Fnhon Zephyr with 349 wheelset
3. Brompton or Pikes with 349 wheelset
4. Dahon K3 with 305 wheelset mod (3 speed 41T : 9-1317T)
6. Fnhon Breeze with 254 wheelset with schwalbe big apple tyre (single speed 41T : 9T)

good question. thinking about it

1. i need a new bike, my rb parts are not upgradable. i've change riding style from long distance to hill climb and simple cardio
2. foldie other people can use too. sister and dad for example
3. more likely to ride as i can fit in car easily compared to rb. my rb also delicate. tubular high profile are annoying.
4. don't like rb crouch over anymore. got to do alot of yoga stuff.

downside - can't get the rb feel and regret big time

i would stick to 451 rather than 20.

I have both RB and foldie. Actually the foldie is my wife's, but she hardly rides it anymore, so I kinda took over riding it. Spent some money changing some parts and now I have 2 bikes to alternate with

can i ask for foldie. what groupset you can put on it to climb hills? prefer one brand and range groupset. don't want to mix.

not sure about modding groupset but the Altus came stock on the foldie. i only changed the cassette ratio to 11-32 from 11-28 but maintaining 8-speed. but not long after the shifter went bonkers and considering the cassette still new i bought another 8-speed shifter.

on hindsight i should have gone with a 9-speed shifter and swap to a 11-32 9 speed cassette, one extra gear so lesser jump between gear shift. The RD can support so it doesnt need to be changed.

Current stock crank is a 52/42, i have another 53/39 ready on hand. smaller small crank should allow me to climb easier. but havent have the time or need to get it swapped yet

i know is convenient to store and take out to park...but how does it compare to normal bike?
RM3k for a folding bike can buy a very good street bike edy...

if size is not a problem…then go for rb or mtb.

the gist of fb is you can bring it along with you to go everywhere…even when tyre puncture you can just fold it and take a grab go home.

riding fb will unlikely match the speed of rb even with same gear inches calculation, it's because of the aerodynamic and the wheel momentum.

if you need average speed above 30kmh u better go for rb.

like our otai kenc said, if anything more than 40kmh, better get a kapcai.

Hi guys,

Currently I have a Tern Link B7, which obviously came with only 7 speed. Right now I'm thinking of upgrading to 9 speed. Need some advice regarding these:

1. Which one is better? Change current hub to freehub or change the whole wheelset?

2. Cost wise, new set of wheelset is from 3xx to 450 (in Shopee). Will it be cheaper if only change freehub and re-do the rims?

As of now, my tire are 20x1.50 but I do inclined to change it to either 20x1.75 or 20x2.00 as I think the stability would be better.

just keep the old tyre with old wheeset and sell to those people who need.

1.50 profile is just nice, stick with it.

for speed, i go with my 451 1 3/8 wheelset tyre combo, 53t front, tiagra dropbar etc.

ultimate portability i have my 412 14 inch 3 speed bike. folds as compact as brompton

for longer distance touring kind of ride, i take brompton.

i saw u posted in fb group, how about the fnhon retro vs your 412?

retro is very stable, having the rear triangle, and also the ability to accomodate larger crank is a bonus.

any folded size comparison between 2?

i saw ppl said dahon k3 after folded the front and rear wheel macam not 100% side by side…not sure fnhon retro also same

this is a problem with K3plus, as the rear frame is being extended to accomodate 135mm hub.
K3 not so as the rear hub if not mistaken 85mm. hence more symetrical.

Hi guys, need some advise. I saw those foldie below 1k selling in Shopee and Lazada is it any good? Such as TRS, Gomax, Pacific, Mongoose and etc. Any input on those brand? Purpose is for normal riding around taman and maybe in future join some riding kaki to ride on weekends.

just pick the 1 which suits your budget.

new people just don't listen to advice. just buy those bike and start learning.

agreed. with that good budget getting a new tern and ride is more than enough. extra budget can do some simple mods. get a P10 and small mods.

the birdy / brompton are 10k +- range
the tern verge are 5-10k range depending on models
the fnhon or dahon range from 2k ++ and above depending on ur parts

just pick any one that suits ur budget for taman ride. eventually when u start to join other kaki for weekend rides sooner or later got poison u will upgrade

that's why no more budget recommendation for newbie.

newbie always thought after they bought the budget bike then can upgrade later…yes, it's"upgradeable" technically, but it's pointless.

because you won't want to replace all gooding parts to your budget bike frame anymore. in the end you will just sell it as whole and buy a new bike.

kawan, as you have yet to dip your legs into the water, then this is the best advice for you - dont mod. it's not worth it.

best is straight up get a good one. one time investment and last you long time of ride. you buy a budget one, some time down the road you either dont feel like riding it any more, or you spend much much more to mod than you would have purchased a good one outright before you started buying one.

ppl like me already bought, and no more chance to change another bike within foreseeable time, then modding is the only option to give me a reason of continuing riding it.
