@azamunekurone

thanks for the detailed explanation in the earlier post.. greatly appreciate it.

I found an offer, an Exitway brand, fixie...but its fixed with coasting ability... chrome body / and stated as chromoly steel...
used unit...going for RM1.2k

1) is the fixie a good buy? (I know i'm asking this in a folding bike section, but would like to get your thoughts on this)

2) Or I should go for a foldie in the range of RM800+? (Brand new, 7 speed , hi ten steel)
*
1) stylo? rage urban are for many fixed gear cyclist,. depends on u actually. many parts easy to find. easy to maintain but bigger storage

2) try to look for used bike. search slowly. nowdays, the RM800+ bike are actually crappy less than rm500 bike last 3-4 years ago.

Looking for sifu advise for tyre and inner-tube replacement due to benjol on my Dahon 20" foldie. Currently I think is  406 20" x 1.35 tyre.

1) Can I replace with 406 20"  1.5 or 1.75 tyres ? Will it fit into existing rim ?

2) If I get 1.5, for the inner tube should I get 20x1.25-1.5 or 20x1.5-1.75 ? What is the impact, pros and cons ?

Thanks
icon_rolleyes.gif
*
1. can coz still 406 wheelset
2. both can. not much impact. if u use larger than 1.5, need to be careful when installing it. otherwise ur tube will stuck between rim and tyre and can pancit

I see alot of shimanos, but got any sram stock bikes?

I prefer the sram shifters.
*
last time if im not mistaken got oyama bike with sram x4 groupset. but dont know still exist or not.

newer bike nowdays,
more likely will have ltwoo/sensah or some shimano compatible parts but not shimano. if u can find full shimano parts for folding bike, never doubt to buy it.

in your case, if u like sram parts u can build on your own. i love sram shifter bcoz of the ergonomic feel and pull ratio (exact actuation system) between road and mtb are the same. and that is another reason sram dont have like shimano grx groupset coz both road and mtb can be mix and match easily.

as an addition,
if u wanna setup full sram component, bear in mind sram road parts crankset (must gxp, bb30 cant fit folding bike) and fd (brazed on) quite hard to find either used or new coz malaysia market have tons of shimano parts either new or used.

last time i mix sram mtb and road component. sram x5 9s shifter, sram mtb casette, sram x5 rd, shimano fd and sram apex crankset. after collecting part by parts for 5 years (mostly used), now im running full sram road component.

fuiyoh…this time what frame?
*
hahaha.. im built up brompton bike (still dont have frame yet)

im a bit frustrated with pikes, just bcoz it was not good. pikes are good bike but it cant fulfill my needs. and few upgraded need heavy modification to make it compatible. if ur running more on stock, more on cosmetic pikes are good enough. the main different between brompton is the rear triangle and parts related to it.

since my pikes already complete upgrade, some unused parts i can gather and build another laugh.gif i think with this MCO i need at least 1 year plus to complete it..hahahah

my friend here in ipoh already owned 2 type of brompton design body. 1 is aceoffix and another is unbranded handmade in indonesia..

the indonesia weld are not perfect, but all measurement are 95% brompton. all brompton parts are compatible. riding feel are not the same like aceoffix. more likely feel like pikes. also this frame very hard to find.

the aceoffix frame is 98% brompton. the 2% is near the seatpost clamp. the frame is 400g lighter than brompton and feel most likely riding like brompton.

as for conclusion after testing both frame, compare to pikes i might go for aceoffix frame. even though its MCO, i will wait more untill my financial are better. thats why i said i might need at least 1 year

the aceoffix price is quite steep compare to pikes…might just bite the bullet and get real B…haha.

good to know your circle of friends have tested so many variants of B copy frame. your experiences are much appreciated, this really benefits our readers here.
*
if u calculate, the aceoffix bike are less cost compare to new brompton and u get premium parts with it.

unless u get used unit, but still i save few things by recycle my parts.

since i had 2 wheelset, and much likely few upgraded unused part i need to gather few more things to setup another bike.

yeah, me and my friend really study about the B option. my friend invest nearly 9k and get 8.8kg brompton look a like bike with 5speed external gearing. not all premium parts on his bike, but still can managed lighter and compact bike.

sorry for being silent reader all of this time. not much picture to spam laugh.gif

i met my friend today. sadly he already sold his bike for rm9k. he said very rugi coz many titanium parts with it.

here is the picture of the bike

I notice for folding bikes, the gearing hubs are all inside the back wheel. So maybe that's why don't have compatiblility with sram shifters
*
do remember, sram already owned sturmey archer. one of the legendary internal hub gearing company. for that, sram has developed sram dual drive system. u can find the info on the net

how do u mount the 3 speed external? mind to share what cogs u use?

at 1st attempt,
i try to put 11s cog. can fit, but i cant lock it with ring given. nearly give up, my friend find for me 12s cog and it fit nicely. lucky 11s chain still can be used.

and yeah, my friend who help me find this cog rugi 2 times by selling his aceoffix bike 🤦

anyone has the raleigh classic?

user posted image

It looks solid at the shop but the gear level and brakes etc looks not too strong.

Maybe spend abit more for dahon or tern?

Not looking to cycle long distance. Maybe to basketball court or speedmart (5km). but if buy dahon can go kesas. what you think? will it break under heavy load on hill? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JJ7Dh8qXlwc this guy seems ok punishing the frame

any idea why not on raleigh website?
*
i had expirience upgrade my friend raleigh classic. from what i can say, it cost a lot than the bike itself.

almost everything he upgrade and left stock is the frame and handlepost. braking are so so, wheelset and gearing are ok for taman spin but cannot go far for performance or endurance. u need to consider it, if u like the bike.

looks nice u need a very thin cog to enable the mods to be done? u using 12s shimano or sram cog? or other brand?

i got a friend previously fully mod his raleigh classic too. retain the frame. original stock is not solid enough. after full mod is different. handle post he use the fnhon 3d 1 piece.

i dont know what brand is it. but as i search on the net got option brand called minimods that manufactured 3 piece cog for brompton. as the name brompton involved, of coz come with pricey pricetag.

for 3 piece of cog,
the price is rm300+ where u can get 105 11s casette with the same price.

thats why i said before, this project nearly failed bcoz of the cog issue. lucky i had my friend helping me. i ask for the whole retail casette, he said he only kawtim with LBS here to get 3 cog only. i also ask for another set as i got another wheelset, also until now i cannot get it.

so i had no choice. if i got option, i would adopt 12, 15, 17 but currently the only option i had running it is 13, 15 and 19. since the project is a successfull, my hand gone itchy wanna find some cheaper option and solution for my desire cog.

i will share my findings here once i found and tested. since now we got MCO, and it all effect my financial expense, maybe i need to slow down a bit. u know la, when trying and developed something new, process of learning and testing would involved some money with it.

definetly i will share here if i got solution and cheaper solution. dont worry ✌️

my latest update, not much new things. just finish final touch up my 9s pikes with new crankset (3sixty hollowtech crankset) and new decals. i change to 53t chainring as my current setup is 13,15 and 19t. hope there is nothing to do with my pikes.

after this i can consentrate on finishing my aceoffix bike. and to feel the same, i adopt 3 cog 12,14 and 17t with my old raceface crankset 52t chainring. now both my bike will have nearly the same setup gearing with same feeling.

kind of itchy to wait all to come laugh.gif

finally,
after few month waiting patiently, i introduce u with my new project

aceoffix brompton copy
user posted image

got few advantages between pikes
- B measurement
- all B accessories are compatible
- perfect work+color on the frame
- feel solid, good riding feel almost identical to B

and some disadvantages
- not the best qc for handlepost and fork
- pricey!
- some pikes incompatible acessories

notes :
i collect some unused item from my previous upgraded pikes and didnt have the chance to fully tested it. will do some photoshoot on details when i had the chance.

last time before i running on 3cog, i had setup 13t/18t. it can be done, only some tweak on ur chain anchorage/chainpusher. thats all. no major things need to be done.

and not to forget, extend a bit ur chain. if the chain too stretch, i wont shift nicely. be sure ur chain is not too long or not too short.. from 15t to 19t need to add up around 4 links from stock. also dont forget if u change bigger chainring, chain also need to add depends on ur chainring size.

thanks a lot, i shall put it up & try based on your advice. appreciate much on your sharing bro.

no problemo bro,
later if ur hand get itchy why not try 3 cog setup. really nice to get closed ratio feel, also got 1 life saver cog laugh.gif

but, bear in mind the cost and time spent
