So this is my personal review of the Lenovo online buying experience
Great deals, good range but a hell load of patience required. To start off, my experience started early November. Was looking for a Laptop to replace my workhorse Laptop which had a lousy HDD.
Saw a pop up ad from Lenovo on deals...hmmm no harm looking offers from Lenovo.
OK..saw a good deal on a 15 inch E gen 2 Thinkpad (build your own) promised delivery 4 weeks.
Great...since I was not in a hurry, ordered and paid by Debit Card. Transaction TAC went through, RM1.00 deducted.
Got a email from Lenovo, says order received. Happy.
2 days later, received an email, says payment got problem. Checked account, balance not deducted.
Ok fine, about to reply CS, saw a different model, a L15 Thinkpad with touch screen for slightly more.
Decided to take the L15 during 11.11, also hoping to get a better deal then.
So wrote to CS to cancel the first Order and told them will order a different model.
Received an email saying the Order was cancelled.
On 11.11, ordered the L15 (indeed with a better deal) customized with bigger SSD and upgraded 3 years premier support, paid by CC this time (after the debit Card problem). Promised delivery 6-8 weeks. Confirmation email duly received.
So waited, first update on OVP was estimated delivery on end December. Fine, within the scheduled date.
Next OVP, delivery dated got pushed to mid Jan 2021...ohhh felt a bit disappointed but ok la 8 weeks.
Then the bombshell..next email says incident report (WTF) parts shortage (no idea what parts) estimated deliver pushed back to MID APRIL 2021.
WTF...i mean....basically it will be a 5 months wait.....furious liao..
Screw it...decided to stick to the plan since it was such a sweet deal.....and no hurry since got a old laptop to work.
Then..to my horror, I dropped my old laptop and the screen hinge broke....
So I need to expediate the L15 before my old laptop dies.
CS told me they will try to expediate my order..but one week later OVP still says mid April 2021 delivery.
KNN, cannot wait that long so decided to buy a ready made aje. Cyber Monday 30.11, saw the X13 AMD with 3-6 days shipped
Wrote to CS to cancel the L15 and immediately ordered the X13 AMD. Paid by bank transfer while waiting for Lenovo to do refund.
Ok...thought settled liao, payment done, OVP first shows est arrival 4.12.2020. Ok cool.
By 3.12, shipped from Singapore - Shenzen - KLIA. It was obvious wont get it by 4.12.
Nevermind, thought it was shipped ok can get within next few days.
Then my old laptop condition turned for the worst, cannot close properly as the hinge got stuck.
Kept checking UPS status, stuck at KLIA due to clearance (import license) for 2 days, released but stuck at Shah Alam for 2 days local agent reschedule delivery. By then OVP says estimated delivery on 8.12 but nope didn't arrive.
Got it only today..about 11 days after ordering.
So my take away to the whole experience: -
1. Pay with CC if possible. debit Card and bank transfer problematic. Bank transfer , they dont expressly says to send the proof of transfer to them, just says to put the Order number in the details of payment.
2. Lenovo CS are not very helpful to expediate any orders. UPS CS is worst, useless AI predicting your questions.
3. The estimated shipping dates and arrival are.................ESTIMATES. its not accurate at all. the updates are not in real time. As of writing this, my OVP status still says delivery on 8.12 and UPS is still in Transit. Terrible for anyone which have to arrange days off to receive the goods.
4. Lenovo must take some blame inventory control. They shouldn't be allowed to advertise shipping dates which are misleading. 4-6 weeks turned to 5 months is clearly unacceptable or 3-6 days delivery which turned to 11 days. While it difficult to have an exact prediction on stocks level, surely a customer cannot be expected to just wait due to Lenovo's failure to control inventory.
5. Patience is virtue and it is a must when ordering online. In a era where items ordered online are delivered within 4-5 days, the logistics updates are totally useless. Not sure about Dell, but AFAIK my past purchase wasn't so stressful that i kept seeing datelines being pushed again and again.
Anyway, end of my rant...now to configure the X-13. By the way..yes the Thinkpad keyboards are awesome.
