Do you know that warranty is just a extra selling point for the co to earn more money?
Usually 1 year warranty is sufficient, any other problem (hardware failure) is easy to fix on your own. With tech advancement nowadays, board and chips wont get spoiled so easily.
*
I dont like paying extra for warranties either, and it also restricts your willingness to do upgrades too (storage/RAM/netcard).

But peace of mind for 2 extra years at only RM100+ sounds like a no-brainer good deal to me, especially if your device is slim and hard to repair (mostly soldered proprietary parts).

If the warranty upgrades are expensive, I will settle for the middle ground, which is 2 years warranty.

Thus far I've only gambled with 1 year warranty for my cheapo sub-RM1.5k devices, as if there's anything spoil I will be happier to upgrade to better parts if possible, especially the sucky display, netcard and improper thermal-paste.

ThinkBook has many options to choose from. Which one should I start with?

I randomly played around and got this:
ThinkBook 14 Gen 2 (RM2,723.85 - after eCoupon FRONTLINER)

Which Yoga7? Something like this?
Yoga Slim 7 Pro 14ARH5 (RM3,244.85 after eCoupon:FRONTLINER)

In short with a 3k+ budget, I should avoid IdeaPad and go for Yoga or ThinkBook. Is that right?

I'm currently using ThinkPad X1 Yoga as my company laptop. This new purchase is for my Primary 1 kid + wife use.
*
Ideapad keyboard miles away from the thinkpad creme de la creme keyboard.
Can strongly consider X series, X13 (AMD) for that 3xxx bucks budget.

Nicer keyboard (this is something important since you will be stuck with it on a laptop) and its light enough (sub 1.3kg) to put on chest to watch movie, or easily portable for the kid to carry around.
https://www.lenovo.com/my/en/laptops/thinkp...d/p/22TPX13X3A2 - P/N 20UFS03X00 also comes nicely specced with 16GB ram which will last for some time.

I'm using X280 (1.3kg) as personal machine and E14 (company machine). The company machine is quite heavy to be used on the lap or on the chest (1.6kg). For me, if buying a new machine, weight consideration is quite important as a female to carry around (esp if taking it around town for work etc).

So everyone in the world knows how to replace the LCD panel, they know how to replace the motherboard by themselves is it?
Spending RM300 for the 3 year onsite warranty is worth it in case the motherboard dies within that 3 year warranty period. You think motherboard replacement costs only RM300?
*
So far the lenovo laptop I use can last more than 3 years without warranty claim before.
Well, not saying that you did a bad investment, but it's up to personal choice. For me, 1 year warranty is good enough. Can save money on other upgrade like ssd and ram.
Furthermore, own damage cant claim warranty as well.

i noticed the Pro version only has 1 USB-A.. so only 1 port for my mouse.. if need to use thumbdrive then need to pull out.. and 90Hz screen and 4800h, battery guess won't be as good as 4800U version...
(just to soothe myself coz i bought the 4800U on haha)

Hey guys I saw this thread on Reddit where a guy from SG was able to order the 2021 Legion 5 Pro from Lenovo on Shopee:
https://www.reddit.com/r/GamingLaptops/comm...ro_gpu_wattage/

The link he provided:
https://shopee.sg/product/241017226/3378743...07-1612415110.9

Any idea when these models will be on sale (pre-order) in Malaysia ? I know Lenovo mentioned March availability on their website.

True also, connectivity wise the tak-pro is much more generous than the pro, with HDMI port and MicroSD slot as a great bonus. console.gif

The pro reminds me of the macbook when apple first announcing USB-C on it. laugh.gif

You can change refresh rate with Fn+R to preserve some battery, tho it's using high res panel so battery life will be down a bit. 4800U only slightly save battery life compared to 4800H, wouldn't say it's significant

Another main highlight in the Pro model is performance. Previous Slim 7 AMD only can do 25-28W, the Pro version can do 40-42W.

And because it doesn't happen to you, it will never happen to anyone else?

I never consider extended warranty a bad investment. It's a good investment to me and a lot of other people
So instead of dumping a 1 year old laptop which the motherboard has suddenly died, I & a lot other people can rest easy that our laptops is insured for at least 3 years no matter what happens so long as we don't cause physical damage to it

Mechanical failure? Apa ni? sweat.gif

ZM Fong have you seen this before?

Edit: Nevermind, just googled it, found out it's either one of these things:
1. Airplane failure
2. Truck failure
3. Train failure (less unlikely)

Agreed... nowadays many components are integrated together with the mobo. so replacement are expensive. and the extra warranty is not that expensive anyways during promotion... suggest just get the extra warranty.

1 question though.

I upgraded the display for RM90 for this:
14.0" FHD (1920x1080), IPS, Glare, 300nits, Non-touch, Narrow Bezel with Glass

is it good for student or wider view angle?
BEFORE was:
14.0" FHD (1920x1080), IPS, anti-glare, 300nits, Non-touch

Hi

Any idea when the ryzen5000 and nvidia3000 series will be coming to Malaysia? Am currently considering the rog strix but the leaked specs of legion looks good.

however also considering lenovo malaysia woeful logistical issues, could it be well into the 2nd or 3rd qtr before we can actually get our hands on one?
