Wow, not bad, it's powered by Windows Mobile 6 as well.

At first, I thought it would be the first device from HTC not powered by WM

Not a very good spec but good looking phone. To me not practical. Its more of a eye candy rather than a work horse.

Most of the apps for smartphone does not need alot of processing power, but its better to have a faster processor in case you want to use GPS. Anyway, as both are having QVGA resolution, I think smartphone and PDA has around the same performance

you still have alot of program memory free, all you need is to upgrade the storage card (sd card).. it dont think the install program consume near 900MB dry.gif must be alot of media files inside smile.gif

well.. its still the same as WM6.0 pocket pc phone. the only add on feature is the touchflo + 3D Cube. im sorry to disappointed you that this touch doesnt work like iphones. and its doesnt have any zooming feature either.

so fast ya.. cant tahan. performance speed same as dopod818 but if overclock it to 400Mhz would be better, lack of Memory 30+MB of storage usage. unlike 838pro i can load more than 10 application on main storage. and i miss my keyboard and the OK button. blush.gif

this gadget is not high end gadget, it's for entry-level. they launched in Taiwan is about NTD15900 so convert to RM is RM1600 like that.

have you reflash your ROM, sometimes reflashing couple of time might slove your problem. after reflashing still occur then you might want to bring it back to exchange new unit.

Got mine from Digital Mall for RM 2099.
So far satisfied smile.gif
Is there anymore user?
Should we start a HTC Touch Club ? biggrin.gif

I will mainly use Touch for ebook, document, games, MP3 Player(the earphone provided is very good), so no 3G and slower processor is not a problem, summore without them the battery life will be higher laugh.gif

How's the battery life performance for the Touch?? I'm planning to sell off my N70 and Palm to get this device because my stupid N70's battery now only lasts up to a maximum of 1 and a half days. Usually dries up in 1 day.

my fren just try to play for a while on this phone. the design is very cool and the size and feel is just nice for the hand!!
The new TouchFlow style menu is damn cool. only thing is your screen end up full of thumb prints!!!
The major down side is hard to sms bcoz no key pad. quite slow using the stylus, either in freehand writing or soft keyboard.

if i going to get a pda phone, i'll put it as first choice.

I just bought HTC TouchFLo at Simlim Square Singapore....The salesman change my mind because actually i want to buy Dopod D810 that is 300 dollar more expensive than HTC Touch. The price is SGD 848 (around 1900) no contract include 2gb SD card and CE Star application. But because i work here...i have to pay 5% GST..damn...This phone is very good and stylish. People always looking at me when i play my phone at MRT station biggrin.gif.

What i like : -
-Style
-User friendly interface
-SmartDialling
-TouchFlo was really great

What i don't like :-
-No 3G
-No GPS
-Processor only 201 MHz

The performance for me at this time good and no problem. But it will be slow when u do multiple tasks and sometime when u want to open Audio Manager from the cube.

For me, this is the real PDA phone. It slim and stylish so it fit in your pocket just like a ordinary phone and it has PDA function. nod.gif

bought mine yesterday. RM2099.00 + 1GB MicroSD + Screen Protector.

now im trying to figure it out , how to add my favourite Video Player/MusicPlayer/Photoviewer instead default applications to the 3D Cube.

The 1 GB card and screen protector comes in the box. Is not an offer from the retailer. So far the 3rd party accessories are not in the market yet. Still have to wait. And the screen protector provided suckz like hell. The side, on the upper right never stick at all. <<== Not 1 cannot stick, but 99%/100%. The pouch that comes with it is nice and cute. but exposed the top too much.

HTC, as a pda maker for so long should realized itz freaking stupid to put in such slow processor. IMHO, the Touch is more like a MP3 phone rather than a PDA phone. Overall is nice. Should have more Touch Cube/Flow rather than just 3 pages.

Don't worry about WM6 will make the Touch crawl. Basically, WM6 only improves a tiny bit compare to WM5. Even the Dopod 818pro can upgrade to WM6. No worries.

Haha, yea...the 838 is nice to have but I guess, after playing with it and others like c800, I find that touch* more suit me. I mean, personal taste ler.Slim, easily put inside my pockets,wm6,wifi and i dont really need the gps and 3g... Hehe.
If can, I would like to get the 838 pro somewhere end of the year.Like the qwerty keyboard. Shiok! tongue.gif

Hehe...I think for for me wont be so soon ler...cause, been playing the games that I installed like Atomic Cannon (some sort of WORM), some shooting game, and looking for other s/w & themes for it. The feeling just like few mths ago when I got my new rig with vista. tongue.gif

Oh ya, when I create a new sms, I need to specify the recipient. So, when I click on 'add recipient, the same name appear twice (on the list that I need to choose). I think is because 1 is from my SIM card and the other 1 is from the touch* storage. How do I control it not to show those from SIM/storage?

Sry, I'm a noob about it. wink.gif

when using windows media player. i can't play media files encoded with DivX. a lot of lag. Also when using TCPMP. But play DivX movie and AVI file encoded with DivX in TCPMP..ok...i think it because WM6 not support DivX right...

Bought HTC touch at PDA expert RM2020. Just more convenient for me going midvalley therefore i choose there.

What i like:
1. No doubt, the design n size is excellent, my main purpose of buying the phone.
2. Secondly comes to perfomance, a bit laggy once a while but acceptable for normal usage, sms/call/calendar
3. MP3 ringtone not as loud as expected, depends on what song it is and definately much better quality (crisp/clear) than my previous o2 Atom exec which sounds terrible for mp3 ringtone.
4. TouchFlo kinda fun but not really dependant on that function.
5. Weather forecast from accuweather.com, another value add which previously doesnt come with my atom exec (HTC touch doesnt have KL, Malaysia in the list by default, you will need to modify the xml file in windows folder to show KL weather)
6. Lastly, cant stop looking at my phone now. SL33K!

What i don like:
1. Sometimes laggy when multiple applications running, due to slower processor.
2. GUI doesnt come with any battery meter in percentage, need 3rd party application like Resco/spb to do so.

Thanks evil puppy.
I planned to buy TOUCH to replace my HP6828.
With the speaker phone and voice dialling, it meets my need.

Guys,
Need your advice here.
I have 2 option to buy HTC Touch.

One of my friend will be coming from Taiwan next week. I can tumpang him buy HTC Touch for me for RM1450 full box set including screen protector and 1G micro SD. I also have friend whom is going to Singapore and can get the same set for RM1650.

Do you think it is advisable for me to buy from Taiwan as it is cheaper.
How many languages does the Manual Book comes with? I cant read chinese. Also, the charger, is it 3 pin or 2 pin blade (Is it interchangeble just like HP6828) and is it variable voltages? It is really tempting me as the price is RM500 cheaper.

Please advice, Thanks

have you go into your message folder inboxs or only a notification popup? if notification popup you can only read part of the messages.

Hi, another potential buyer here. Coming from Treo 650, text input is crucial for one. Would like to know how good is the single handed operation and also text input. I am awared of the problem that Touch does not include any suitable finger based input method. I do heard about options like htc phonepad, plumsip(chs input) and tengo and etc...which is the best?

Thanks!

Hello all, you guys have a great forum going on here. This is my first post...

I am have recently acquired a HTC touch, and was previously using O2 Mini. One thing that i find problematic is that when i want to type an SMS, i have to use that tiny keyboard with my stylus which is really hard to do and slow.

In the O2 mini there is a phonepad. Much easier and it comes with a T9 also.

Where can i get the plugin for this phonepad for my HTC touch (windows mobile 6.0)?

I know there are those for WM5... how about for 6.0?

Yes i know its in the box. But do you realize that once you put it on the sensitivity of the screen becomes so bad. I was hoping to get a martin fields one.

And i put the protector by myself, i kinda scren it up. Now it looks horrible (the screen).

Greetings Guys ! smile.gif

Does anyone here saw or using the HTC Touch at this point of time ? unsure.gif I saw their advertisement on the newspaper and it seems to be pretty nice and user friendly .. I guess this PDA phone doesn't really require us to use the stylus but our fingers to browse around the phone ..
User interface pretty simple and nice ..

that's why i don't really like the Touch's LCD placement which is very fragile. this does make it easier to use since the LCD is placed on the same level as the casing (seamless design) as compared to other PDAs where the LCD is recessed about a few milimetres deep. furthermore, the Touch's slim and small design doesn't help in protecting the LCD and it even makes it easier to slip out of the hand (and drop to the ground!).

Just wanna ask all taikor.
When you buy a new HTC Touch from shop, is the box sealed with security tag unbroken?

I went to a shop today and i notice the seal is already broken but the guy told me its new. I'm just worried its a demo set or second hand selling as new. How do i check?

Please advice

Also, PC Fair around the corner. Any discount for the HTC Touch you all think?

Should be okay if the seal is broken, but of course you have to do some research yourself to see which parts must come in the package like cable, manual, CDs, stylus, etc.

Also, as long as you getting from a reputable PDA shop such as Fresh Gear, you should have nothing to worry about. smile.gif

PC Fair in KL is this friday to sunday. Might have some deals there, so hold your horses before buying a Touch before then. But IMHO, i don't think there'll be any offer since the Touch is still very new in the market. wink.gif

how do i view only phone book memory.. ??

instead of both phone book and sim card..

in order to do so you need to have a registry edit, use the registry editor that you've installedd and navigate to HKCU\ControlPanel\Phone and add a new DWORD value named "ShowSim" and set it to 0

LOL! it seems that my potential buyer had doubt on me huh.. doh.gif (thats normal i think, and he should be.. smile.gif)

anyway, stinky is VERY VERY careful when he wanna buy something. (saw all his posted reply in forum liao.. keke.. sorry stinky, cos i need to study my buyer also to see whether genuine or not. wink.gif)

anyway, here's the story of the touch that im selling in garage sale..

I paid some booking fees with a shop in low yat on 27th july just to secure a promotion price for HTC Touch and Dopod C500 (which im using now). and the Touch suppose to give it to my gf as a surprise gift but ended up she dun like it at all when i tell her that night.

So i just post it out to sell it off the next day before the stock came on 29th july (sunday). why wanna sell it off so fast? cos i got C500 already and i dun like pda phone without keypad. Also, I paid it with my credit card with 12 mths installment plan. So of cos i wan to take the cash back (and i can have some money to "roll" mahh.. smile.gif

BTW, why i wanna explain all this sh*|t? Cos i dun like being doubt like some con man trying to con ppl money when im really really sincere to sell my things.

And all of u here who saw this post can be witness for me cos im going to give a personal 7 days MONEY BACK guarantee IF THE PHONE REALLY GOT PROBLEM and even though its under warranty. We can COD at my office and i will give my name card also.

If im the con man who con money. please blacklist me in this forum. (and pls report police also wink.gif)

Anyway, the item is still available. Please contact me if Any of u interested in the phone and really trust me. (oh ya, the bluetooth really throw out to attract buyer one which i dun have one, just to test response mah. hehe)

Thanks for listening to my story.

PS: THE TOUCH CUBE FLIPS IS REALLY REALLY COOL when I show it off to my frens. hehe.

Keem

ALL,
HTC TOUCH got issue on LCD?

I bought A HTC Touch and when i powerup my phone, at the SMART MOBILITY page, there is a water mark at the bottom of the wording "SMART MOBILITY" as big as 2x 20cent coin. You need to tilt it to an angle to view

I took another of my friends TOUCH and there were the exact water mark. We both bought at different shop.

However, other screens are not visible. I am just worried it will lead to other problem like LCD leaking...........

Please advice. Also, the screen protector causes alot of aitbubble at the edge. It cannot stick properly.

Anyone same issue

Hi guys and gals...

Just now I accidentally 'clear' my storage... doh.gif
Long story...but, all of my games/softwares that previously installed properly by the shop that I bought the Touch...is now all gone. And because I so use to the s/w that they installed (such as shortcut to power/theme today/memory cleaner/etc...), now I kind of...lost because I forget the name of those s/w that they installed for me.
So, I think 1 of the way is to ask you all (Touch owner) what are the s/w that you might wanna share with me...that you think is good to have....

Many thanks.

It seems from the many reviews I've read the phone has a pretty good battery life for a PDA phone. Is this true?

The battery life is fantastic.....

I used to have an O2 Atom which battery life couldn't even last more than a day ... over the night, it would loose between 10-15% of battery.

However, with the HTC Touch, i found that there is almost ZERO battery loss over the night (I'm not sure how they did it .. but it's true).

Overall, I think it's a great PDA ... the lack of 3G is not that big of a disadvantage for me since I'm not really into this 3G thingy unless you do lot sof surfing or use the PDA as a mobile internet access device (you better get some sort of unlimited data package).

HTC_Touch

Take a look at the site .. smile.gif

Well, to be honest, that TouchFlo can now be ported into any PDA, if you are really into PDA, you won't buy Touch just for the TouchFlo, even Dopod 838 pro, Dopod 818, D810 to name a few, all can use TouchFlo

yes it can be ported to any pda running wm6 but the prob now is it wont b as smooth or as the same as touch ... some can only use button not the finger gestures ... or some it can make the pda hang sweat.gif

Dyou guys think it's a wise choice to downgrade or rather switch my N95 to a HTC Touch.

Thought of trying out a PDA phone while still gaining back some cash.
The only thing I'm reluctant is my N95's 5mpx camera and the keypad sad.gif

hihi, i just got my htc touch today, overwal physical design of slim body is very satisfy, but the performance is abit dissapointed. Sometimes play music via a2dp will lag when start.

Added on August 12, 2007, 2:44 pmjust tested the audio, it seems my ad2p headset quality is much better than htc bundle wire headset.

My first PDA phone and I just love the Touch of HTC smile.gif Love the sleek and sexy design plus the intuitive GUI where u can get what you want within 1-2 touches. Not to mention free access to email, feeds, internet via the free WiFi at the office. Just got 2 questions if any of you can help me with :

1. I bought my Touch overseas and it doesn't come with Chinese/Japanese characters set support. Is there something like that for the Malaysian version? I just need to view Chinese/Japanese pages on Internet Explorer, no writing.
2. My touch seems to run out of memory after a few application and a few days. Need to keep reset or clear memory. any ideas to shutdown the programs totaly and free up memory? I already install all my applications on the SD card.

Thanks.

hi, can i know what software you guys use to make the touch more "touch" friendly...

for now this is all that i can find

Spb Mobile Shell (big icons - easy to navigate and access programs, settings and files - this is better than using the start menu - i linked it with the cube (using 3rd party biotouch settings) so that i can easily access it in whatever application i'm in)

HTC PhonePad (T9 keyboard that can be easily handle one-handedly and using one's thumb)

PocketCM (contacts app with superb interface with large tabs for finger navigation and support some finger gesture)

Picsel Browser (internet browser with zooming capabilities using one finger - something like the iphone's safari)

Slide-2-Unlock (similar to iphone's unlock)

HTC Touch theme for WMPlayer

what other software is available that support some finger gestures???

software that i'm looking for:

task switcher/manager supporting gestures

- i imagine i can just swipe downwards in any apps and it will launch a task manager for me - something like alt-tab interface (not a list of apps - i want big icons) where i can i just touch the app icon that i want (i found an app name dynamo which has an expose-like effect but currently it doesn't support wm6)

application launcher using finger gesture

- since to launch the cube you use the upward gesture - maybe we can get an app that launch our chosen app with a diagonal gesture so that it wont interfere with the cube's gesture recognition

OMG!!! i just found this software Symbol Commander that allows me to do what i want (see quote)

i can do all sorts of finger gesture on the touch [cons: require a press of a button 1st] to do whatever i want :
* Start an application
* Execute a command such as copy, paste, save...
* Go to a website
* Navigate through web pages
* Insert pre-defined text
* And more!

QUOTE(halamjin @ Aug 16 2007, 08:46 AM)
what other software is available that support some finger gestures???

software that i'm looking for:

task switcher/manager supporting gestures

- i imagine i can just swipe downwards in any apps and it will launch a task manager for me - something like alt-tab interface (not a list of apps - i want big icons) where i can i just touch the app icon that i want  (i found an app name dynamo which has an expose-like effect but currently it doesn't support wm6)

application launcher using finger gesture

- since to launch the cube you use the upward gesture - maybe we can get an app that launch our chosen app with a diagonal gesture so that it wont interfere with the cube's gesture recognition
*

Added on August 17, 2007, 10:57 amOMG!!! you guys should really try the symbol commander and tie it to menu launcher of spb mobile - superb!!!

for example i make the gesture "O" and it launch the organizer menu (from spb mobile shell)
you can get it to launch whatever menu you want

try it

nah. it doesn't matter. rclxm9.gif

anything that has a built-in GPS, 400 MHz and 128mb memory will surely be EXPENSIVE. think about Dopod D810's price + RM500 or more. smile.gif

HTC Touch is always meant for the entry level PDA range at RM2099 RRP.

I just got my HTC touch yesterday and I have problem detecting my SIM card

I just got my new Celcom 3G SIM card this morning (around 11am), and the customer support says it will be activated within 4 hours (it is currently 4:51pm). I called Celcom Customer Service and they said my card has already been activated and shouldn't be any problem.

I have repeatedly insert the SIM card properly and performed several soft reset, but it still does not solve the problem. Then, I performed Hard Reset, but it is still not detectable.

Any suggestions ?

Borrow a friend's active SIM card and put it in. If it doesn`t work then u know there`s a problem with the phone. Likewise, swap ur SIM card with ur friend's phone.

Tried with an active SIM card (Hotlink), no problem with that.

Is it the compatibilty problem with Celcom 3G SIM card? I called SiS Technical Support and said that there is no known compatibility problem with Celcom 3G SIM card, but I also saw a post in this thread mentioning he has problem detecing Celcom 3G SIM card with HTC Touch. Anyone can verify ?

yup,it seems cracked screens has become a common problem for htc touch users.the screen is virtually on the same level with the casing, without any protrusions to protect it like most pda's.one drop and guess which part of the phone is absorbing all the shock.if it ever drops better pray that it lands on it's backside.

You are right regarding that. It was meant to be a test run on the market about style & pricing being the emphasis then the specs. But then again i have no regrets. All i need is a pda phone that allows me to check all my mails on the go, run MSN with no probs and has wifi so i can surf .

Thanks for the quick reply , so the loudness of the sound is due to the phone itself or its headphones ?

Don't get the Atom. It is using Intel Xscale high-MHz processor which equals to BAD BATTERY LIFE. smile.gif

Do you really want to live on the inconvenience of using spare batteries? Think about it.

Also, the OMAP processor in Touch doesn't mean that it is slower than Intel Xscale at higher MHz. Clockspeed is not everything.

i didnt know it comes in 2 colors... i bought mine in hk though... anyways comparison wise... the atom is big and bulky. the touch is slim. But the touch has the issue of memory and u must install the new msn messenger. The stupid bug in the retail unit makes u unable 2 see ur contact list who is online.... other then that its all fine. Regarding the the sound quality i think if u get a good pair of headphones its all fine.u Can get either a A2DP bluetooth headphones or some USB headphones.

i had a dopod 900 which has a 500mhz and a htc touch with a 201mhz speed. if your not a hardcore pda user with countless multi tasking and running applications, you dont need to worry about the processor speed. your not buying a laptop. as for the audio transmission, the speakers seems to be better than expected, i can compare it with my n73 ME and its almost the same. for the audio output jack, just get a converter and use your own earphones or headphones. and besides anything ALL-IN-ONE can never be good at it all.

Apart from it being fragile, i don't see anyone complaining.

HTC is a well-known maker of high quality PDA phones unlike other companies like Quanta (which produces the HP 6828 and O2 Atom) and Gigabyte (maker of XDA Stealth).

ofc the camera loses 2 the 3.2 megapixel phones and all lar.. if ur lookin for a camera phone this isnt it. if ur lookin fr a pda phone slim and has a decent camera this is the one
*
as for ur info...the higher megapixels will only determine how big u can zoom into ur photos. the real thing that determines the quality of pics will be iso sensitivity, shutter speed, exposure etc.so i just wan to check the camera quality. sony ericson's 2mp camera could take nice n clear pics too!

i Do found that the original headset sound quality is too sharp, has anyone know where to buy USB to minijack converter so i can use better earphone. The sound on the earphone is too sharp it hurt my ear while playing mp3.

Just resolved the compatibilty problem between HTC Touch and Celcom 3G SIM card earlier.

As I reported few days before, that my HTC Touch was unable to detect my Celcom 3G SIM Card. Upon visiting their branch, it was known that Celcom provided me with a 128K 3G SIM card earlier, which is used in my previous phone, a SE K800i. Later they changed a 256K 3G SIM card for me and it was tested good.

Hi

Does anyone has any Contact Management programs for HTC Touch to recommend ? Preferably those that I can manage from the PC Desktop.

My contacts are in a mess when the system copied the SIM contacts in the phone AND after Windows Live downloaded my Hotmail Contacts into the phone. Now I have redundant contact entries

the HTC Prophet is not bad even though it is using 2MP too. i believe the Touch shouldn't be that far off, although it lacks the macro-lense present in the HTC Prophet.

a pic i took recently using my HTC Prophet:

how much is brand new 818 Pro nowadays at shops (for those that still sell it)? basically Touch is same specs as 818 Pro except for the TouchFLO and WM6 and slimmer form factor.

Touch is more on design, people often get attracted by the cube function. Not many people know that they can have TouchFLO and 3D Cube on their 818 pro.

818 pro is cheaper than Touch

Hey guys, i am planning to get a pda, so just a few quick question.

Firstly as i have heard you guys discuss about the audio problem, i am just wondering when people is calling to this htc touch phone, is the ringging loud enough? i mean i always miss call because of the volume , so i would like to have a phone that can ring out loud.

2ndly, i have tried playing with a real htc touch but i just feel like its hard to press the buttons on the touch screen for some reason. Do you guys ( people that own this baby) have any problems with this?

And Lastly about the speed, well personally i dont think i will be a heavy user, just mainly for calling and receiving calls , sms, and organize some simple stuff on words or excel. So i would like to know if there will be any serious trouble doing so due to the 201mhz processor?

I am not too particular about the camera. so no worries about the camera.

Thanks in advance! Cheers!

at only RM2499 for 838 Pro, it is surely the better buy since the original price of 838 Pro was 3.2k IIANM.
3.2k original-RRP vs 2.1k (Touch) original RRP.
definitely the 3.2k wins. tongue.gif

why i say it's better anyway? you'll be bored with the TouchFLO after some time and the design of the 838 Pro is small too, even though not as small as Touch. and everything else, the 838 Pro wins the Touch, of course. biggrin.gif

i didnt know it comes in 2 colors... i bought mine in hk though... anyways comparison wise... the atom is big and bulky. the touch is slim. But the touch has the issue of memory and u must install the new msn messenger. The stupid bug in the retail unit makes u unable 2 see ur contact list who is online.... other then that its all fine. Regarding the the sound quality i think if u get a good pair of headphones its all fine.u Can get either a A2DP bluetooth headphones or some USB headphones.

erm, how do i get the new msn messenger? cuz i have the same problem too. i cant see al the people who are online. thanx

dude, that software is developed by htc itself and it was made for htc touch and other compatible htc devices. why wouldn't OEM software have problems?

and its not like windows operating systems works perfectly anyway...

I found this Flash SMS software which was specially made for HTC TyTN aka 838p, hope you can try it on Touch
You might want to try it

http://www.stickler.de/downloads/FlashSMS.CAB

FlashSMS is an easy-to-use software to send flash SMS messages right from your windows mobile powered smartphone (WM5 or better required). Flash SMS messages are equal to normal SMS messages except that they appear directly on the mobile display without selecting the message after receiving it. Sometimes Flash SMS messages are displayed in a fancy way f.ex. automatically scrolling on the mobile screen or similar effects.

Target mobile phone numbers can be directly taken from the Pocket-Outlook addressbook. Note: the target phone number must be entered in international format (see screenshot).

The Software has been tested on a HTC TyTN smartphone. There is no guarantee for any functionality. The author takes no responsibilty for any damage or cost caused by the usage of this software.

In other word, when you request for balance via *126# , etc, you get a flash SMS, this is what it does, please let me know if it works

XCPUScalar allows you to dynamically scale the processor speed of your handheld Pocket PC 2002, Windows Mobile 2003, WM2003 SE, and Windows Mobile 5. It uses the power of the XSCALE or TI OMAP (OMAP850 and OMAP1510) processor and unlocks its dynamic scaling capabilities. You can scale the processor speed from 100 to 728MHz. By scaling the processor speed down, you can increase the battery life between recharges or increase the speed when you need more power for playing games or multimedia programs that require more CPU power.

overall, i give 8/10 to this phone....

Shall i wait for this one? With keypad... and 3G

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1EqPSyc-zTs&mode=user&search=

Currently I'm using o2 mini...bored oredi...and bcause im using "Letter recogniser" to write sms, one part of the screen has bcome very not sensitive..extremely hard to write text now.

Thinking to change to Touch...but heard a newer Touch with keypad is going to be out... Shall I wait for that? I'm not really using 3g yet. my concern is they keypad..cause i don wan d screen to spoil like my o2 mini screen from writing too much.

Any writing software that similar like normal handphone keypad...but big enough to finger press...so we can sms like a normal phone. If there is such software...then i think there is no need for me to wait for the keypad version, since it sure cost a bomb. shakehead.gif

ohyeah.. it seems some of d ppl here r Ex Mini User... How much will it cost if I sell my mini now? haha. 2 years..out look condition should say..Horrible~ rm 300?

another thing i wanna change pda is bcause.. Mini camera is d worst hp camera ever! i hardly use it.. mad.gif

My Touch laaaaaaags while playing video files..any solution to that?
I am using the TCPMP 0.72RCI with the Decoder patches from XDA-Developers to play my video files, but it lags so much. Any ideas to resolve that issue?

Hey congrats upon getting the new and cool HTC touch! haha...
anyway i have the same opinion as you on the alarm, and i personally thing the default alarm was far below my expectation.

But no worries, as i have tried this alarm software that is pretty good i must say.. and its free so feel free to try it out.
http://www.itv.sk/winco/Download/ALC2007.cab

It does not allow you to use other songs as your alarm tone, but you can simply copy and paste a wav file into the sounds folder in this software to enable the use of the wav file. So far i havent try other formats yet, but i am sure that a wav file will work.

Have fun with your htc!

i usually have some annoying long mp3 sounds as my alarm.

but you can't use a full song as an alarm ;/ it won't show in your alarm drop down sounds. but you can use it for some other notifications.

I put my wav/mp3/midi in" Storage Card\My Documents\" it works. After using for many day the complain was the lack of memory. Looks like need to use the custom ROM. smile.gif

BTW here is another way you can free up some RAM.

In Windows folder you can move all those *.htm (Non ROM Help File) files to your storage card, then goto Windows\Help and change the shortcut to the new location. Depends on what apps you install I manage to free up 500K

Added on September 19, 2007, 10:35 amWhen I want to change the SIP it take a while to pop up the menu, about 1 - 2 seconds.

Anyone having this problem in your Touch?

HTC touch for RM1999

Free 2GB memory card
Free Jabra Bluetooth (cheapest model)

But still quite worth the price if you are getting it. The only problem for me not getting this is the slow processor. Only 200mhz, how to play games?!?!

evilpuppy,
any problem when you change the SIP, for mine it take a while to pop up the menu, about 1 - 2 seconds.

Any application missing in the custom ROM? Do I need to reinstall all the apps again? Can Sprite Backup restore after I flash the ROM? Thanks.

1. mine doesnt have delay on the SIP popup(PDAViet ROM), it could be you are using original ROM. Custom ROM im using now as below Feature:

PDAViet Transformer v1.0
OS 5.2.1908 Build 18125.0.4.2
HTC HomePlug 2.0.814.722
CommManager 1.75
ArcsoftMMS 4.0.31.28
SIM Manager 6.25
Voice Speed Dial 1.2.070717
NetworkWizard 1.0.29982
TaskManager 1.51.30470.2
Esmertec Jbed 20070802.2.1
Calilei Calculator 1.61
Synchro Time 0.94
Wm5torage 1.75
SIP Change 1.1
Screen Capture 1.2
Simple RegEdit 1.1.0
PIM Backup 2.5
Hibernate 1.40
Clear Temp 0.93
Phone Pad 1.0.22364
Touch Settings 1.22*
3D Cube*
(*: only avaiable in Touch Style)
...
6Mb PagePool

2. Once you have flash to custom ROM all your existing application + data contacts will be erase gone. so, better backup all your important task/appointments/contacts/sms/mms using PIM Backup v2.5

3. Spritebackup can be only restore your applications onto the same ROM, mean you may have to reinstalling all your applications.

video played well on touch but you must 1st perform conversion to ppc video format using windows movie maker. this is what i do to watch video on my htc touch, IF the original video format is in huge size and like karhoe said, htc touch is 200mhz.

Hi guys especially the expert like evilpuppy and karhoe and the rests,

I am selling off my p3600i and considering getting a used HTC Touch (no more buying new anymore esp after a costly lesson from p36001) and I am still confused by some issues discussed in here such as :

1.Memory issue. For this I thought we can use the memory card to store our applications and etc instead of the internal 32MB.

2.If I use the Edge as internet connection for my laptop, will the browsing speed acceptable or very lagging?

Thanks,guys...Have a nice day.

from avi/wmv can use default windows movie maker, as for rmvb. etc format might have to use thirdparty application as you mention above.
windows movie maker would be much straight forward and easy. others very powerfull application but might have to go through several configurations.

1. memory issue? if you are using factory ROM then you will face some memory insuficient all the time, unless flashing to custom ROM like im using now its give me atleast internal 50MB storage to store all my applications. i remember last time with official ROM i hve to install my CEstar on my storage card instead main memory.

2. Edge on ppc, still acceptable. as for laptop i think the speed would pretty much like dailup connections.

3. i have 1unit HTC Touch which belong to my uncle, due to lcd screen too small and very difficult for him to read. use 1month, letting go at RM1900.00, interested? pm me.

cheers

In the Iphone - Touch comparison argument, Touch's features beat the iphone's by FAR.

I've played with an iphone already and my favourite feature on the device is just d Youtube plugin and the screen (ZOMG! Gotta love the screen of the iphone!). Everything else so-so only.

Talking about the screen, unlike the liquidy feel that one gets from a pocket pc, the iphone's screen is virtually GLASS-like-solid! And it only works with ur fingers which means no fingernails, no prodding with ur pen while alternating between a document and ur iphone, no ANYTHING OTHER THAN SKIN! Definitely not work friendly.

Even the magnifying-by-stretching-fingers function which looks cool at first is not really THAT user friendly. I often ran out of finger space. Haha...

And the iphone gets hot. REALLY hot. Especially when I was using wifi.

For those who asked whether the iphone can support GPS, currently, there is no way it can. First of all, it doesn't come with built-in GPS. Next, it's bluetooth driver only allows for handsfree protocol. So means no serial port = no bluetooth GPS receiver support. (Btw, can't see M'sia on google maps also)

To me, the iphone is more of a fashion phone whereas the Touch is more work.

But still the most balanced in my books is the Dopod 900! Wahahahahahaha! biggrin.gif

Having being a long time PDA user from the old Palm series to MS mobile user from the old Ipaqs to the 2210s to the GPS-enabled messengers and now an iPhone user - I will have this to say.

If you have to choose between two..ask yourself if..
1) do you REALLY use 3G? like seriously. make 5 video calls, plug in as a modem daily. DAILY. Do you even pay for the unlimited data plan? Are you on Maxis? Sure you have 3G in KL and all but once you move out of town?

or

you have a 3G sim card but you never make use of it except ocassional mms, light web browsing(seriously, who are we kidding, browsing web 2.0 sites on pocket pc nowadays - not saying it won't work? but the novelty of being able to surf the web on a small screen just wears off after awhile - you'll be dying of websites fitted for pdas)

2) does your life depend on all the super features of the pocketPC platforms, sure they have tons of softwares and features that the iPhone doesn't have (yet).

or are you the kind of person who wants all the features now - because hey, you want the most for what you paid for right? - makes use of it once awhile then later just too lazy to use it anymore? Are you really a busy company executive that you have your appointments jam packed and they can't hire you a secretary, so you rely completely on your pocketPC? You just must have your super-duper 4-windows-multi-coloured-categorized-iconic-view of your daily/weekly/monthly schedules in the front screen?

3) Are you the tech-savvy type of person ?

or you just want something that works. Because you can't be bothered to find the reset button, install a few apps to get certain things up and running, because opening a lot of programmes without add ons bogs down the OS.. which brings me to my fourth point..

4) Are you a patient guy who loves seeing the 4-colours rainbow of the Microsoft "I-am-loading" circular icon ?

or you longed for the responsiveness of long-time-ago Palm apps that just runs almost instantaneously when you tap on them?

Seriously folks, I've seen the Touch? To me it kinda feels like a gimmicky version of the PocketPC, it's almost like the HTC peeps got together and said "Hey we gotta push something out the market before iPhone hits the local shores! We need to sell something like the iPhone to the masses!". No offence, it's probably the underlying OS that's the issue as well.

Yes, the iPhone doesn't have 3G. It doesn't have a camera that rivals some top-end phones/pda. No it does not have a GPS(yet). There's a LOT of things it doesn't have in fact. And uploading to it is a pain with iTunes. I hate that piece of software honest to god.

But what it can do, it does it amazingly well. Web surfing on the iPhone is *far* better an experience than any PDAs I have tried (including the HX4700 640x480-screen ipaqs). The usability of the interface is amazing, it's not all just a "pretty face" UI on the surface people. So I'd say.. if you only need a phone, a damn good web-browser, and a music/video player just like that of an iPod, then yes, the iPhone is great.

Is it expensive ? Well yeah! Everything new is always expensive. It's only a few hundred bucks above the touch, or if you get it from US direct it could be even in the same price range, if not lower.

I would say if you go for a PocketPC-based mobile if you truly need the 3G some of the phones offer, or there's a killer application on that platform you absolutely must have. And oh, I do miss the simple plug-and-upload-like-a-usb-thumbdrive capability of the PocketPC (for now anyway).

Sorry this is turning into a wall of text and rant about ms mobiles phones wink.gif didn't really mean to start a microsoft vs apples kinda thingee here but I just feel that all the users should go experience the feel of the pda/mobile phone before you go out and just get one.

If you have a friend who has an iPhone, go and call them out and take it for a spin. If you can get someone with a MS Mobile to go along as well.. heck bring them all along for an interesting evening! wink.gif

Once u unpack, if u see a .CAB file, just copy it into ur device and tap on it in File Explorer.

It'll install automatically. Make sure u install it on ur device n not ur storage card.

Hi all HTC touch users! I have a problem here.

Problems: As we all know when it is connected to usb cable from PC, it will SYNC + CHARGE (light turned to orange). But now i realize it no longer charge when connected to USB cable. It will only SYNC and the light will not turn orange either. It will only charge when i use the AC charger.

Anyone has such problems? Does this mean there is something faulty?

Hmmmm... I find the white not as appealing as the black. Probably because it's a glossy finish rather than a matted finish.

Hi yrh0413,

No, the Touch does not support chinese on its own. U'll need to install the fonts to read, an extra SIP to write.

Free ones are such as D-Ear Chinese SIP and ZTA4 Chinese SIP which comes with the font and SIP in a package.

If ur willing to pay for support and possibly better performance, go for CE-Star or Monster Chinese

Umm... well, seeing that other than d HTC switch that u can use to acivate touchflo and aesthetics, the Touch has no other significant upgrade from the 818 pro.

If I were u, I'd go for the 818 pro coz it's cheap. Then 2 - 3 months later, when I get the hang of it, I'd get something super like the Tytn II for example

For me, im using touch instead of 818. My priority is on size and design, so TOUCH comes in picture. 818 is fine but i used o2 mini and o2 Atom exec previously, so 818 is not as attractive as TOUCH

smile.gif tested the Touch today at PDA Expert @ Midvalley... some questions though:

1. why the startup is so d*mn long?
2. with mapking installed, the Touch is very laggy...
3. is it just me or I need to tap the screen hard to get it to respond?

Overall it is a nice PDA phone, but a tad too complicated for me to upgrade from my N70 sad.gif

Hi yrh0413,

1. Startup for the first time is memang like that. After that, turning it on/off is almost instantaneous. Unless u wanna hard reset every morning! ohmy.gif

2. The problem with the Touch is that its resources is extremely limited. With only 64mb of RAM on board, running a resource-guzzling software such as Mapking will quickly deplete ur program memory hence making it sluggish. Compaction threading is also another culprit to slow the device down further.

3. It is a known fact that the screen of the Touch is not as sensitive as other devices. A good reason would be that since the Touch is designed to be more thumb-friendly, it will need a more durable/thicker screen.

Also, notice that the Touch's screen does not reside inside a depression on the housing like conventional PDAphones. Instead, it's level with the housing. So in case the screen is put on a surface facing down, it will be in direct contact with the surface. So a more hardy screen is feasible here as well.

PDAphones in general are complicated devices. But once u get used to a Pocket PC Phone, it's hard to go back. Haha... biggrin.gif

Hiyrh0413,

Being a power-user, the Touch is really not for me. The RAM is just TOO SMALL to do any friggin thing other than the PIM functions.

But the ergonomics of ACTUAL usage (looking up contacts, scheduling appointments, making notes, listening to music) is just amazing! The shape, the size, the screen size... perfect! As long as u stick to the basic functions of a multimedia PDAphone.

IMO, this device is suitable for someone who is looking for a PDAphone with strong multimedia functions. But if u wanna fool ard with ur device, installing a whole lot of crap at a whim knowing that u'll delete them a week later, u'll definitely feel that the Touch is inadequate.

Hope this helps!

smile.gif I guess the Touch might fit my bill. I have been using my trusty Nokia N70 for 1 year+ and initially I have the same thought: install loads of Symbian apps. But in the end I removed all those apps and now my N70 is on factory default.

Oh ya some more questions to ask:
1. Can WM6 export SMS/MMS to text file or other file formats?
2. How much does a Touch spare battery cost?
3. How durable is the Touch? Which is the most fragile part?

Hi all,

Noobie here and I'm contemplating on getting the HTC touch or the O2 Atom Exec.

Any thoughts? Which is a better buy?

hi yrh0413,

1. to import/export sms to txt or any other format, u'll have to manually copy n paste frm ur inbox to wherever u need d text. Can be done nonetheless.

2. A spare battery may set u back about RM180 - Rm299. Nt too sure bout the pricing.

3. The most sensitve part will be the screen. Although I've stated that the screen may be more durable than conventional PDA screens, this doesn't mean tht it can stand much abuse either. It's still a delicate part.

hi cutielynette,

what functions are most important to u? perhaps that way it'll be easier to recommend. If ur looking for a basic PDA phone with strong functions, u should go for the Touch. But if ur planning to use it more like a PC, then u should go for the atom exec

Hmm... is there some sort of program that allows me to export every sms out? Something like MsgStorer (exports all sms to a text file)?

Another Q, let's say i'm listening to music on handsfree or BT stereo headset, and there's an incoming call. Will the music playback pause and resume after I ended the call, or I need to manually pause and resume it? huh.gif

p.s: sorry ya, a lot of questions to ask as this will be my first PDA phone blush.gif

HTC TOUCH :

- Slim and sleek
- WM6
- only 200Mhz OMAP (a bit slow)
- WiFi G
- Battery can last 2-3 days!!!

Atom Exec :

- Cute, small
- WM5 (but can hack to WM6)
- Intel 520Mhz (great for video playback)
- WiFi B
- Battery lasts 1-1.5 days only
- FM Radio
- 2.5mm jack (can easily find stereo adapter)
- have IR Keyboard (not that useful)

I have used both devices and both are fine.. If you want more features then go for the Exec but if you use basic PIM go for TOUCH biggrin.gif

hope this helps biggrin.gif

Hi there, im previously using o2 Atom exec for less than a year until i saw this beautiful htc TOUCH, i sold off my Atom exec.

For me, HTC touch is cheaper, sleek design, surprisingly slim n small in hand, crisp and clear mp3 ringtone even when u turn up the volume (Atom mp3 ringtone quality suck unless u put low volume), Windows Mobile 6 (This doesnt matter to me), camera better. The processor might be slower but i dont actually feel much diff.

I don think i got anything gd to mention about Atom Exec, i prefer slim and compact PDA and atom seems promising before HTC TOUCH is out. Not anymore..

Wow, thanks for the info everyone!

I understand that in terms of performance the Atom Exec is a better buy, as it's also cheaper than the Touch. I'm still asking myself if I want a PDA phone for it's performace or for the sake of simply having one again (I used to have a O2 Mini). I missed having a PDA and I can't wait to get rid of my N70.

Saw the review at CNET for the Touch, looks very sleek and cool, honestly but if my research serves me right, the Touch is pricier than the Atom Exec now.

So for me now it's like:

Pay more = Sleek but lacks performance (Touch)
Pay less = Normal cutie with better performance.

So if you ask me, I really can't decide. sad.gif

BTW, what's the dofference between a wireless g and a wireless b? Can a wireless g device be used on a wireless b connection and vise-versa?

wireless B is only upto 11Mbps while Wireless G is upto 54Mbps... whether the hotspot is B or G both can interconnect but its just the speed difference.

hahaha I bought my Atom Exec from kilikulu used it for about a month and then sold it off for a HTC Touch and then sold the Touch for Palm Treo 680 and then also sold the Treo to buy Fujitsu Lappy and now only using old W800i rclxub.gif doh.gif whistling.gif

Hi yrh0413,

SMS Exporter may be what ur looking for. And it's free too. biggrin.gif

And most bluetooth headsets behave in the manner that u've specified - pauses when a phonecall comes in and resumes after the call ends. But that is assuming there isn't some error somewhere.

Hey has anyone ever faced Active Sync problems? I had my XP reinstalled lately and I haven't been able to reestablish the sync relationship with the touch. Everytime I load the getting started CD it keeps telling me I have an old or corrupt flash player. After installing the latest flash player the freaking CD still says my flash player is out of date.

So I decided to just install Active Sync directly from the CD, and dammit now I can only explore and change files on my touch, it tries to synchronise my calendar and contacts but nothing happens.

Help sad.gif

Activesync needs flash meh? I don't think so. Btw, did u disable ur firewalls? AS doesn't work if ur firewalls r up. Either u disable them or u work them to allow AS through.

I just disable them only. Easier.

without microsoft outlook the ActiveSycn can only explore your ppc contents, to sync your contact + appointments/task you must have microsoft outlook to do the sycn. try to install microsoft outlook which came from the installation CD provided.

The thing is, I already have MS Outlook installed on my pc. The main problem I'm facing right now is the stupid Get Started disc won't recognise my Flash player ver 9 and keeps insisting that I have an older than ver 8 flash player installed. Because of that I can't access the disc at all, except for installing ActiveSync 4.5 from the disc manually.

A friend of mine who just recently bought the Touch is having the same freaking problem. Sigh

Built in Alarm was suck. can consider using pTravelAlarm

I have a problem with my Windows Live messenger on HTC Touch. Everytime connected, I see nobody online. So I will have to switch account and resync my contact list, then only messenger back to normal. Do you faced the same problem?

Sounds like a marvellous idea. Although, I did just that with my lappie, installed AS 4.5 and tried to sync but it doesn't work. Only able to explore and change files on my phone but won't sync.

My phone worked fine with the original install of AS 4.5 on my desktop, but after I had to format the OS and reinstall AS 4.5 it won't sync anymore. Same scenario as para 1 above.

Why don't you try this and tell me if you face the same problem or not? Uninstall your AS 4.5, then reinstall it. See if the phone will synchronise again? If it does then maybe mine needs a hard reset or something.

Cheers

Hi JtuneD,

The Touch doesn't come with built in GPS. U'll have to get a bluetooth external receiver instead.

Softwares that will work with the Touch is Garmin, Mapking, Imap, Handymap, tomtom, etc etc...

Too many to mention. But remember that ur Touch has a low CPU clock and it will jam if u load too big a map.

Guys,

Just trade in my old O2 Atom and bought a new HTC Touch not long ago. It is small, sleek and fit nicely to my pocket, even though the OMAP is less powerful than XScale but still can tolerate with the speed.

Programs currently installed in main memory are:
1. Resco Explorer
2. Resco Photo Viewer Pro
3. Monster Chinese
4. Tengo

And on memory card:
1. Sprite Backup
2. Skype
3. MSDict
4. Opera
5. Bejeweled 2
6. Some Astraware Games

The device still working fine and not much sluggish. Still not used with Touch Flo, I found it hard to slide also and if Windows Mobile able to work as responsive as Palm OS would be nice. Hehehe.

Since I am a DiGi user, and only support EDGE, I guess this device is fine for me and have no regret in getting this device and my colleague who is using HP rw6828 is eyeing on my beloved touch too. Wondering why 3G licenses given to MiTV and Time but they still haven't roll out anything yet...

Got myself a second hand htc touch from lowyat forumner yesterday and having fun with it right now. Looking at xda-developers website, someone has come up with a lite version of the ROM .. anybody has tried it before? Not fancy bricking my PDA for sure.. smile.gif

One more thing, any of you having leather case for the htc touch? If yes, what brand do you have? Was looking around but not that many options and end up ordering Krusell Orbit for US$36(inclusive delivery) from amazon. The unit looks a bit small and fragile and am afraid that it will slip lose if I use the cheapo silicon case.

when I was using the touch last time... I find that the third party leather cases from krussell, capdase, grab, made the Touch become hideously thick which defeats the purpose of why I bought it in the first place (slim and shirt pocketable)

so I stuck with the pouch that was in the box... biggrin.gif

hi vicfirth,

most likely somewhere along the way, something got corrupted. Y don't u try copying all ur files onto ur PC, reformat d card, copy back into d card n see whether it helps.

Otherwise, u may just have to reflash ur ROM.

Regarding ur ques on GPS softwares, it doesn't matter which one u install as most of them r equally as resource hogging. If u insist on installing a map software, I'd suggest u install mapking.

hi vicfirth,

u don't necessarily hav to reflash back to d original ROM. Ur custom ROM will do also. But if u wanna flash back to d ori rom, just download it frm d HTC homepage. Have u tried to reformat ur microsd card?

Have u tried doing a hardreset? My friend kena like urs before. No choice but to hard reset. Something about file sys error or some sort.

To hard reset, press and hold the red and green buttons together and press the reset pin simultaneously.

Hi vicfirth,

Nice to hear that ur problem has been solved. Well, that's the dangers of playing around with custom ROMs. But ironically, in my friend's case, he was using ori ROM. biggrin.gif
