In the Iphone - Touch comparison argument, Touch's features beat the iphone's by FAR.

I've played with an iphone already and my favourite feature on the device is just d Youtube plugin and the screen (ZOMG! Gotta love the screen of the iphone!). Everything else so-so only.

Talking about the screen, unlike the liquidy feel that one gets from a pocket pc, the iphone's screen is virtually GLASS-like-solid! And it only works with ur fingers which means no fingernails, no prodding with ur pen while alternating between a document and ur iphone, no ANYTHING OTHER THAN SKIN! Definitely not work friendly.

Even the magnifying-by-stretching-fingers function which looks cool at first is not really THAT user friendly. I often ran out of finger space. Haha...

And the iphone gets hot. REALLY hot. Especially when I was using wifi.

For those who asked whether the iphone can support GPS, currently, there is no way it can. First of all, it doesn't come with built-in GPS. Next, it's bluetooth driver only allows for handsfree protocol. So means no serial port = no bluetooth GPS receiver support. (Btw, can't see M'sia on google maps also)

To me, the iphone is more of a fashion phone whereas the Touch is more work.

But still the most balanced in my books is the Dopod 900! Wahahahahahaha! biggrin.gif

Once u unpack, if u see a .CAB file, just copy it into ur device and tap on it in File Explorer.

It'll install automatically. Make sure u install it on ur device n not ur storage card.

hmmm... still seems quite buggy and not much improvement over the official ROMs.

I wouldn't flash this version

Did u use a different USB cable? Otherwise, check under "Power" in "settings" to see whether u have an option to enable/disable USB charging

Hi wailocke,

thank goodness he didn't crack the screen! If not, that'll cost u between 300 - 600.

I guess 185 for the housing is ok. I guess fake one also around 100 - 150.

Pics pics pics! Boy r we sadistic or wat!

Hmmmm... I find the white not as appealing as the black. Probably because it's a glossy finish rather than a matted finish.

Hi yrh0413,

No, the Touch does not support chinese on its own. U'll need to install the fonts to read, an extra SIP to write.

Free ones are such as D-Ear Chinese SIP and ZTA4 Chinese SIP which comes with the font and SIP in a package.

If ur willing to pay for support and possibly better performance, go for CE-Star or Monster Chinese

Umm... well, seeing that other than d HTC switch that u can use to acivate touchflo and aesthetics, the Touch has no other significant upgrade from the 818 pro.

If I were u, I'd go for the 818 pro coz it's cheap. Then 2 - 3 months later, when I get the hang of it, I'd get something super like the Tytn II for example

Hi yrh0413,

1. Startup for the first time is memang like that. After that, turning it on/off is almost instantaneous. Unless u wanna hard reset every morning! ohmy.gif

2. The problem with the Touch is that its resources is extremely limited. With only 64mb of RAM on board, running a resource-guzzling software such as Mapking will quickly deplete ur program memory hence making it sluggish. Compaction threading is also another culprit to slow the device down further.

3. It is a known fact that the screen of the Touch is not as sensitive as other devices. A good reason would be that since the Touch is designed to be more thumb-friendly, it will need a more durable/thicker screen.

Also, notice that the Touch's screen does not reside inside a depression on the housing like conventional PDAphones. Instead, it's level with the housing. So in case the screen is put on a surface facing down, it will be in direct contact with the surface. So a more hardy screen is feasible here as well.

PDAphones in general are complicated devices. But once u get used to a Pocket PC Phone, it's hard to go back. Haha... biggrin.gif

Hiyrh0413,

Being a power-user, the Touch is really not for me. The RAM is just TOO SMALL to do any friggin thing other than the PIM functions.

But the ergonomics of ACTUAL usage (looking up contacts, scheduling appointments, making notes, listening to music) is just amazing! The shape, the size, the screen size... perfect! As long as u stick to the basic functions of a multimedia PDAphone.

IMO, this device is suitable for someone who is looking for a PDAphone with strong multimedia functions. But if u wanna fool ard with ur device, installing a whole lot of crap at a whim knowing that u'll delete them a week later, u'll definitely feel that the Touch is inadequate.

Hope this helps!

hi yrh0413,

1. to import/export sms to txt or any other format, u'll have to manually copy n paste frm ur inbox to wherever u need d text. Can be done nonetheless.

2. A spare battery may set u back about RM180 - Rm299. Nt too sure bout the pricing.

3. The most sensitve part will be the screen. Although I've stated that the screen may be more durable than conventional PDA screens, this doesn't mean tht it can stand much abuse either. It's still a delicate part.

hi cutielynette,

what functions are most important to u? perhaps that way it'll be easier to recommend. If ur looking for a basic PDA phone with strong functions, u should go for the Touch. But if ur planning to use it more like a PC, then u should go for the atom exec

Hi yrh0413,

SMS Exporter may be what ur looking for. And it's free too. biggrin.gif

And most bluetooth headsets behave in the manner that u've specified - pauses when a phonecall comes in and resumes after the call ends. But that is assuming there isn't some error somewhere.

well, efficiency IS one of the Touch's highlighted features. Same like when the Dopod 818 pro first launched. I remember the salesman tell me "really very good one! Can last 1 week!"

Activesync needs flash meh? I don't think so. Btw, did u disable ur firewalls? AS doesn't work if ur firewalls r up. Either u disable them or u work them to allow AS through.

I just disable them only. Easier.

Hi vicfirth,

Did u try using wifi or GPRS/EDGE? This may be caused by u trying to connect at peak hour. Even the Windows XP version also have this prob.

Hi ychwang,

yeah... too bad it lacks the Touch's launcher tho. That'll be cool. XD

The ans is yes it can. But whether it WILL or not dunno.
