I finally downgraded from 1 Gbps to 500 Mbps. My reasons:

1. Most of the routers are not able to to achieve 1 Gbps. This includes the AC1200 and DIR882 provided by Time. Even the high end ones like AC5400X can only achieve 920+ Mbps.

2. The 1 Gbps speed is only for download and maximum upload is 500 Mbps.

3. My AC1200 can reach 500 Mbps download and upload on my current 500 Mbps plan. So I am getting what I am paying for.

4. Most new devices on WiFi can only achieve 200 to 400 Mbps max even if you are using the latest and greatest phone or laptop.

5. On 1 Gbps plan, my WiFi on my Note 9 can achieve 300 to 400 Mps max. Now, on my 500 Mbps plan, I am also getting the same speed and I am paying less.

I am aware that some people are able to achieve 1 Gbps download but I think this is just a minority and you need to upgrade your hardware (router).

Therefore my conclusion is that you don't get what you pay for in 1 Gbps.

500 Mbps is a better deal as you get what you pay for lesser price.

Hi,

Check a few things --
1) In your Router, uder Advanced>DNS>set in your primary & secondary GoogleDNS servers. (Do you mean TIME guide you to set it up here ?)
2)make sure your PC is set to Auto obtain DNS Servers.

Thanks.

I suspect you are still using the default settings which is a combination of Google DNS & TIME default DNS 203.121.x.x

Please check it here :

Thanks.

Agreed with all your points and made the same decision a while back. 500Mbps is the sweet spot right now, like how I felt 300Mbps was the sweet spot back then. Unless a lot of your main devices are wired via Ethernet to your gigabit-capable router, then 1Gbps is simply not worth it for most people. Take the 500Mbps and save a bit.

U r right bro... It shows Time cry.gif . How to resolve? How come other device can detect the DNS but not the PC?

When I go to LAN under PC Setup and uncheck IPv6, I can now access all website BUT the internet icon shows No Internet Access even though I can access internet. So weird.

personally i dont feel you 'dont get what you pay for' because this is already in hardware limitation

if you say u pay for 1gbps but only get 700mbps due to the ISP inability to provide you that, then only I consider you dont get what you pay for.

940mbps on LAN out of 1gbps is still within acceptable range, at least for me. but i understand that it's overkill and you dont really need it, 99% of the time you wont even utilize it.

Is your ONU showing LOX blinking in RED when the connection is down ?
If NO, then try to observe the Internet Connection indicator on the Router/login to the Router to check it's connection status.

Btw, which router are you using ?

Thanks.

nothing is blinking in red, but just the connection on wireless suddenly lost, used to not have this problem at all, now if i leave my pc idle. come back disconnected already. always need on and off router to get back connection which is annoying, the good thing if i actively using it, it wont disconnect

Using TP Link AC1200 given by TIME.

Any reason the download speed is slower than upload speed?

It's programmed in such a way TIME DNS as primary & GoogleDNS as secondary by default. Let's leave IPv6 alone temp, can you screenshot & pm me the settings for DIR882 under Advanced>DNS ?
I'm worrying that this setting is preset in the firmware, let's hope the Advanced DNS Settings can supercede the DNS settings in Connection settings.

Thanks.

Something wrong with your setup.

My wifi on pc goes 9xxmbps via WIFI.

Well, after I disable IPv6, its able to detect google DNS now. I dont think its preset in the firmware because my handphone, and tab can detect google dns setting. Only my PC cannot.

Anybody understands their explanation (based on their FAQ at https://www.time.com.my/downloads/SST-%20Ho...0180920)V1.pdf) on the "Adjustment On Advance Charges Post Service Tax"?

Im very confused and shocked at the additional cost.

Hi Bro,

Under Connection Setup, edit PPPOE Dual Stack, click on All Settings, under IPv6, slide it to the left to turn off Auto DNS, and then set in the followings into it.

2001:4860:4860::8888
2001:4860:4860::8844

Do the same as in Advanced > DNS settings (probably you have already done with TIME help earlier)

Click Apply, and Reboot the Router, try again.

Thanks.
