Dont get or do the player at brothers ...you will regrett, only use players with direct OEM plug n play or ORI VW

Brothers is the last place in fact anyone who drives VW or newer cars never go there

VW wiring harness and canbus system is highly complicated, one snip of the wires by brothers you are screwed

I don't bother. I still use manual way and keep it Off. At night, I turn to Auto.
Reach home, turn back Off.

Why ? It's too sensitive, including the wiper.
I drive under some trees, it turn on.
I drive under bridge/flyover, it turn on.
I drive under tunnel/interchange, it turn on. (ok, this maybe useful, but just short tunnel like Jln Tun Razak near US Embassy)

For wiper, even few drops of water (very very very light drizzle), it keeps wiping non stop until it judders.

However, to answer your question, I think maybe can try find the option using vag-com cable.

Did a google search, seems possible. Here is one of the link

Wah, mine is the exact opposite to yours..

Wiper also when the screen is full of water, even at high sensitivity setting, it refuse to wipe, and the headlights, normal to turn on, but so late to turn off..

yes the auto headlights are cool the first few months u own it.

after you realize all your lights/radio etc are always switched on when the engine is off (after you lock/unlock etc) and drain your battery in a year you will put 0 in the day and auto night

and yes same goes to the wiper.

Hi all,

So to start off, actually me and my wife finally dropped by to a vw showroom in ipoh and had the chance to testdrive a golf gti mk6. Actually my wife test-drove it, and my wife is super-loving it now. The gti comes with a RM15k discount if purchase now. So now, the question: is it worth it to go for mk6 gti with the discount or wait for the mk7 gti but dunno how much will the price be?

CBU no longer available wink.gif unless you are talking bout Pre-Reg and the price of Pre-Reg is almost the same as CKD price. They are both more or less the same. Just assembled in different country wink.gif

Last year's software update failed to solve the problem.

And I no longer have the confidence in VW that even this mechatronic replacement will fix it permanently.

That's why I'm selling off my Golf TSI and buying a Ford Focus.

The drop in build quality and refinement will be felt... but this 7 speed DSG really is a ticking time bomb.

Can't imagine owning and maintaining one when the warranty is expired.

My wife owns a Ford Fiesta and had to send the car for them to fix the gearbox. It was making annoying cranking noise. Apparently it is a known problem amongst Ford DCT too. So Ford ain't perfect but at least it was still usable (albeit that krrr krrr krrr sound) and no towing etc required.

But I still love my rocco smile.gif

Clutch slippage, can't engage. Normal issue with the 7-speed gearbox. Try to get a clutch pack replacement!

What do you mean by cant engage, if cant engage, means that it should be on D3?

But now the car still can run on D2, just a minor judder (sometimes, but very annoying) in start and stop traffic

It's the time factor. If UnifiAgent buys the car now he will receive it in early June, that's about half a year since January. Thus, the depreciation value of bout 6k. Furthermore, a pre-reg car is still considered as a second hand car by the time you sell it later. But hey, 6k less and 0 mileage, try to nego for free services as well smile.gif

Personally, wait for the new Mk7 GTI. Hopefully they bring the models in with the performance package! And then you get a lighter car with 230ps of power. It is a lot more fun to drive especially with 2WD, you get the feel the surge.

According to Star motoring they only bringing the 'standard' GTI Mk7 this year ?
If this is true , totally spoil my plan to upgrade since almost every review highly recommend to opt for 'performance' package.

so my friend let me test drove his new beetle 1.2 he got last thursday. we managed to squeeze 3 people into the back seat. initially we only planned to drive around in the campus but then we decided to go outside to test the power. it's really surprising that you get such feel for a 1.2 engine.

but then, while i was going over another bump, suddenly everything changes. EPC and ESP warning lighted up, check engine light was flashing, on the display it says "Electronic Stability Control (ESC) malfunction", D mode changed to manual mode, pressing the pedal does only a little bit, so we slowly crawled to the side of the road (this happened in the middle of the road), turn into some shop lots, and immediately we stopped in front of those shops, the engine died. Took out the key for a while and restart the vehicle, ESC light still present but the engine and transmission is okay. Then we decided to restart the vehicle again only the ESC warning goes away....

I think he quite "sueh", one of his speakers already got problems....

So the car that is suppose to be cheaper to make, is actually 12k more expensive. The govt claim they reduce 12k in tax to MAINTAIN the price as MK6.

So VGM is ripping us or someone is lying? whistling.gif

hi brother,

knowing tht is a VW thread.... currently considering this 2 cars,

scirocco 1.4tsi DSG vs audi a4 facelift 1.8 CVT

scirocco seems to have longer life span in model sense as is only going to launch new model in 2015 and production by 2016. reaching malaysia maybe 2017.

a4 seems to launch new model next year and might reaching malaysia 2015 or 2016..

PRETTY MUCH IN DILEMMA NOW..............

PLS HELP!!

According to SA, is it true that we need to pay RM400 every year for service fee while still under the 5 years warranty? The SA also told me there is cylinder deactivation for the golf mk7 as it is blue motion labeled? blink.gif

The mk7 is not included in the Australia recall. It's way too early to tell how the new DSG will fare.
BTW, the lady who died in that sudden "power-loss" case was driving a GTI with manual transmission - not related to any DSG.

There isn't any RM400 annual fee, unless your SA meant that you can expect to pay an average of RM400 per year for your service intervals...which sounds too little.

Anyone who actually owns a new MK7 can help with the confirmation please? Since it's a fully imported car, you should have both the car registration card and the import permit. The birthplace of the vehicle is written on this import permit card.

Not bad. Any performance upgrades on his GTi? I like the exhaust (he usually revs hard, but our campus there lots of bumps) but I don't like he "ruined" the look of the car. And I heard his fake blow-off valve.

I guess sometimes it depends on the car company as well. The Jaguar XF running on diesel is sold in Malaysia as well. According to the SA, the engine was tuned to suit the diesel quality here. Not sure if performance is capped though.

But the point is, it is sold here!

Thanks

Call my SA and he told me that we can continue "agreed value" with AIG and alliance. AIG offer till 3rd year and Alliance till 11th year.

Means takaful and others not in the list cannot lah, right?

Usually is 5 year from the Car Grant. And make sure the car service in VW and on time wink.gif or you can go with owner to VW workshop and check.

Just serviced my car at batu 9, jalan cheras. And i must say, i really love this car. Its been a year already and mileage is about 15k.. And the service only cost rm445? I bring almost rm2k with me (yes, im old skool. Dont have debit card and if possible dun wan use credit card). Maybe because my car is only 1.4? Hehe.. But rm445 for service after 1 year.. Is really acceptable to me. Next service will be on 24 june 2014. rclxms.gif

don't think so, if drivetrain stay stock usually no issue

tiguan uses DQ500 DSG gearbox, it's wet 7 spd gearbox
not the current recalled ones DQ200 (dry 7 spd DSG)

Would like to check with you guys on the oil filter... I heard VW oil filter actually can last 10 - 15k...

I had my Passat 1st engine oil change @ 4k (Engine Oil and Filter) and now it is clocking at 8.7k

I plan to flush my oil again at 9.5k before sending to VW for 1st 15k service...

My question is, is it advisable to change oil filter again at 9.5k? or I can use back this oil filter until 15k service?

last change = Red Line 5w40, the coming change will be Shell 5w40

Well..mine is in the garage today for the so called "campaign". Probably they will change the mechatronics.

Anyways, another rant from me..the battery died on me this morning without any warning.

Sien lor...only lasted 2 years and 4 months the battery..hence SA said outside the warranty period.

Replacement cost 500 for local battery or RM1k for original. Told he SA..whats the point buying ori since it last 2 year plus nia. Asked them to check if there is anything draining the battery...otherwise pointless if change the battery cause the problem will be rise again

Lets see how they come back to me on this...

essentially going from Golf TSI to Golf GTI is good, better engine & gearbox
most stock GTI owners don't have problem with it

if you're talking about grey import TT you'll lose out on warranty & space, but TT is about 100-200kg lighter
without warranty you might as well get TTS for quattro

I mean essentialy grey imports do have personal warranty like a year though. Just want to see whether to sell my 2 year old car for a GTI is a good move, don't want maintenance to kill me at the end of the day.

Currently I'm replacing mechatronics, clutch plates etc...am terrified to know if the GTI breaks down.

That's what I'm thinking, still using Tsi and already gone thru DSG problem.
Also from Vag Singapore forum, they r not bringing the performance pack version in, n the price for 'normal' Gti about the same as A250 sport !

basically is just you pay a lot for a paper, then you pay a lot for a car, then the govt will scrap your car after 10 years unless you renew your paper.

hi guys! will be joining the VW club soon biggrin.gif Just had a couple of questions that I couldn't get answered from Google sad.gif Does the 1.4tsi Golf come with the "light and sound package" or is that package applicable only to the older models of the golf?

Best offer I got was RM4k discount. Any place offering better deals on the car?

Thanks!!

You are buying MK7?

Only when the MK6 was introduced there are 2 spec, one with and one without for difference of 7k. Soon after it seems like there is no option and they are only selling Golf with the package on.

Yeap... will be getting the MK7 (released earlier this year). From what I read it comes with the LED lights and better sound system, but I spoke to the salesman as well as checked out the official website but there wasn't any thing about their being two versions.

Thanks for the info!

its like proton, perodua or those regular toyota, honda, mazda etc that is running around..
its never premium to begin with...

only in malaysia its badge carries a "premium" prestige, thus the perceived premium feel...

You mean Castrol GTX right? Volkswagen Service Centre uses Castrol Professional Edge Titanium 5W40 fully synthetic. Around RM230 for a 4 litre pack if you buy outside, slightly cheaper, but you they usually don't accept you bringing in any to their service centre to be used. Smells like a con job? You betcha...

Yes, the blue on the mk7 seems to be a very popular choice. Last I heard, some dealers down south might have some units in that shade.

It (Edge Titanium) is long-life coz it is fully synthetic. In fact, it is compatible with the VW's service interval of 15,000 km or a year. Other semi-synthetic oil usually goes up to 10,000 km only.

Yup, until the leak gets fixed, you should top up to reach at least the minimum mark, but since there is a a leak, above the min mark is better. You need to wait for the car to cool down before the the reservoir level stabilize, and of course, make sure the vehicle is parked at a levelled area.

Coolant to water ratio is 1:3. However, you shouldn't use normal water (there are salt in it and that promotes rusting). You should use distilled water, example battery water.

Hope the information I offered helps.

Yes, you should top up with water pronto. No real urgency with getting distilled water yet; tap water up to past min mark is fine if you're doing it all of one time. But there's definitely a leak, and you should send it in to SC to get it rectified pronto.

However, this might not be a 'factory defect' as your post seems to imply; could be some soft of damage from running over something. Nevertheless, bring the car in to SC. I had a similar problem, and SC replaced my radiator (which had some crack) at no cost.

Car plate = not yet registered.
Unless I get the VIN chassis and engine number, I won't pay the balance of down payment.
Without VIN, means SA/dealer has not yet allocate the car for you. Or car not even arrive / clear customs yet.
Preferably, I'll go down all the way to the showroom/warehouse to inspect the car, before they register it. Also to confirm its physical existence ... is there, and not some ayam&lembu (kok & bull) story.

My guess ? Either SA over promised you, or your car is allocated to "someone" else whistling.gif

Normally both sides will have gentleman agreement, e.g. 3-7 days to get loan approval.
If you didn't reply with confirmed approved loan to SA by then, the SA has the right to allocate to someone else.
SA also need to 'cari makan' and to hit sales-target, to be fair to them. They can't wait for 2 weeks, later delay 3 weeks, then holiday, then 5th week, ... then say no money, not buying now.
Therefore, it is better to get loan approved much earlier.

Hence, officially they will need to queue you at the back again.
However, in some cases, SA may allocate another car to you first whistling.gif Possible case like below ... (I'm not saying it is, but is just a possible scenario)

QUOTE(cfyong2020 @ Jul 22 2013, 05:29 PM)

I'm not sure on your dealer / agreement. However, if SA promise you by X date, and can't deliver, you can make noise with the manager for some compensation or discount , or to withdraw your full deposit.

That's what I do normally, not just buying cars, but anything.
Before I place deposit, I always insist and ask several times, sometimes to put in writing at the PO, to confirm on the nearest date / time. I tell them, just be frank and tell me the true date it will come. If it is coming Aug, tell me Aug. Don't tell me end-July.
Go check in your system for the model & colour. If no date, then I won't buy yet, until he/she can give me something more concrete.

But somethings, cannot insist lah, like if you want Continental tyres, instead of Hankook ... this one cannot guarantee. Be reasonable also.

It will void the engine warranty, IF they send the sample engine oil for analysis/testing when you claim warranty.

ermm...tq my frd...i guess mostly tat car allocated to some one else d...really frustrated with tis sa...everytime want i call her only will reply me...can i still change sa during tis period?
*
i book with FA Jalan 222 and submit my loan docs there and loan was approved (with the offer letter and all)..
i only paid booking fee in Jalan 222...

i then transferred everything to bangsar and my SA in bangsar got my car out within the same week itself...
(i call bangsar on monday to tell my story, this SA that handles my call meet up with me on tuesday for more information. by wedesday he got my loan transferred over to his outlet. thursday my car allocated from stockyard. friday evening reaches his showroom after PDI. sat morning i go pickup my car.)

why i go through the hassle of changing SA?
i dont like my original SA in jalan 222 with the usual salesperson over promise talk... so i kept quiet and made him do donkey jobs like submitting docs for loan etc for me...
my gut feel proved to be correct when he took 3 months to refund my booking fees, and that is with me literally bringing it up to FA head office.

so its your call... you get to choose who to serve u...

Which generally, in Malaysia Boleh land, with tidak apa attitude, is very unlikely. whistling.gif
Unless the engine warranty claim is very unique, e.g. blocking, residue, something visible to eye, blown up, etc. that they decide to take the engine oil sample.

Nevertheless, although unlikely they will find out, technically, the answer is still void engine warranty.

Just dropped by Federal Auto Glenmarie this afternoon after seeing them unloading the MK7 GTi. Talked to my dad's salesman, he said NO performance pack. Same as MK6 GTi. Launch next month.

Thanks bro. Added some coolant water into the reservoir. Already done booking to service the car since 13k already. 3 weeks waiting leh...

Nah, didn't really use the launch control method as written in the manual but instead just pure standstill acceleration from the toll booth with manual gear selection (D+Manual)! Quite some times I did it, really like oomph! Really funny to see other folks not suspecting this compact SUV can get paced up so quickly...

Gearbox is ok for Tiguan, not the problematic DSG as I asked around to verify. So far, the first 5000km really 'makan' quite a bit of engine oil. Apart from that, nothing really unusual. For engine oil periodical self top-up, get a 4L Castrol Pro Edge 5W40 from Tesco (sometimes got discount) RM189!

Looks like you're enjoying your tiguan! Ours, lots of stuff happened. At 3000km water reservoir warning popped up but after few times no more d. 5k+ km bought the Castrol oil at nearest VW service centre for RM69, still got a bit left, few months ago we took it offroad, up and down genting, country roads, etc. At 4th month hit top speed, 9th month kissed someone's ass coz my mum fell asleep while gear still in D (luckily no damage), and recently, coolant leak.

I also noticed that FC gets better and better, from 420km full tank to almost 500km full tank. This thing costs us RM120 every 2 weeks just on fuel (RON95). Best I got for city drive is 13+l/100km and 9.9l/100km.

It came off but no cracks, scratch or damage. Just have to remount the bumper. Close call...

Nah, it says recommended is RON97, minimum RON95.
I never tried RON97 before, maybe after service i'll give it a full tank.

By the way, how much does it costs for first service? Never driven or sent conti car for service before (in fact, this is the first german car we had, still learning those hidden functions!). What will they do actually? Can request for full car wash?

IMHO THIS IS THE BEST LOOKING CAR EVER.

If you plan to service after raya, make sure do not exceed 15KM (or exceed 1 year for those always on out-station). Otherwise it will void warranty. There are many cases from vwclubmalaysia forumer falls into this trap. Some have to fork out RM35K to replace the engine because the warranty void due to the owner failed to service within the period (15KM).

Anyway, at Wing Hin Balakong you can get free alignment and balancing if you cars is below 10KM (1 time only) . Not sure about other SC, but I asked sungai besi SC, they only give you free alignment for the first 1KM only.

Went Volkswagen today and asked about the MK6, planning to buy one but then the sales rep says all sold out.

He says 2-3 more weeks till the MK7 arrives on our shore! Not sure to yay or nay cus I have to add few more "k's" to get that car. Sakit wallet.

Anyways. I'm from Penang so I asked VW Penang...

Hi all,

Could you guys enlighten me about the 5 years unlimited mileage warranty?

As far as I understand, there's only 2 years manufacturer's warranty and 3 years warranty by Allianz.

Would that extended warranty be similar to the initial 2 years?
Is there anything in which I need to do after the initial 2 years to get the warranty extended?

In the dilemma to pick between MK6 and MK7, went to VW again today, asked lotsa question because the other day my parents went.

I asked about the common problem DSG, apparently the sales person denies, and every sentence she said touch wood. LOL chinese much.

Want a GTI but MK6 I see lotsa DSG problem and now with the new launch of MK7 the MK6 is certainly limited already, if MK7 were to price high and I cannot afford very hard to look for new MK6. Sigh ..

Showroom has TSI MK7 , fuking nice, unlimited jizzing.

A few episodes back, the guys at Top Gear rant about sport suspensions. They got a chance to test drive the MK7 GTI. So they put the suspension settings into Normal, Sport and Comfort and for each mode, they sent the Stig to do a lap and found out that the lap time for both Normal and Sport mode is the same! The comfort mode is .2 of a second faster! That's why they rant about it.

P/S: In episode 5, Jeremy and James picks the 2 best crossover and ended up with a Tiguan 2.0 TDI R-line and CX-5 AWD 2.2. Winner, of course, it's the Tiguan.

Tiguan is the best selling crossover in UK.... hmm....

The mechatronic issue affects the 7-speed dry clutch that is used in the Mk6 Polo TSI, Polo GTI, Golf TSI, Scirocco 1.4 TSI, Passat 1.8, Cross Touran 1.4; the Mk6 Golf GTI uses a 6-speed wet clutch which is far less problematic. Anyway, expect GTI7 to be priced around Rm230k based purely on my opinion.

As for DCC, I've always felt I go around corners quicker in Comfort when I drive the Golf R wink.gif

Nothing - just make sure you service your car per instructed schedule and do it in authorized SC only.

Only difference is after 2 years any claim you need the insurance company to approve it and it takes longer for obvious reasons.

Hi Guys,

Anyone knows how to disable the Traction Control by default in Polo TSI?

I have to disable it every time I turn on the engine.

P/S: the button is on the dashboard just above the radio

AFAIK by default it's on, it helps you to control the car if you happen to loose traction

Even if you off it, the feature is not 100% disable. If your car loses control, it will still correct back the car position.
You will notice the traction light will still blink blink when you lose control..

Thats quite high milleage imo. The previous owner on average travels over 30k km per year which indicates that the car was over used.

Though the price of the car can be considered steep for a C segment sedan but then again is there a cheaper C segment sedan like it that can do 0-100 in 8.3s? drool.gif

Seem like Bank negara is going to control the debt of Malaysia.. Car loan probably gonna change to 7 Year max. And need 20% down payment instead of 10%..

According to Banker, will implement next month. Not sure how true

How often do you guys change your wipers?
Lately I realised that my wiper is not wiping well.
Can VW cars use any standard wipers or there are specific models for it? I notice that the clip is slightly different.

Jeez. Just left my family's Tiguan at FA Glenmarie. They need time to do the first service and fix the coolant leaking problem. Hope can get it by tomorrow. Fingers crossed.

Btw, free complimentary car wash and vacuum. They don't recommend engine wash as well.

It's so kosong! Apa ni halogen headlamps? I thought all VWs except Polo range must come with "Bi-Xenon headlights with dynamic bending and cornering function and cornering lights with Daytime Running LED"? Even Polo GTi also got this la...

BTW, i heard UK now only got 5 door version, and here now only got 3 door kosong version.

The clip is different, you need to use back the model made for VW cars.
Even different VW cars will be using different wiper blades, example Passat & Golf wiper's clip is different.

I don't quite get it why it's so expensive in Malaysia. I believe starting price form RM199k should be alright but with RM220k, I better off with MB A250.

I like the GTI and planned to own it but I couldn't justify that much of money for VW whereas I can get about the same for MB.

Anyone have booked one?

Guys. I experienced 'wheel hop' just now, when i try to win head start with mini cooper at traffic light. The road is kinda wet, hence the wheel hop happen. This is the first time i experienced it. (of course i loose the head start) but im more concern about my car condition. Where/what should i check if there are damages to the car? I try to drive like normal after that but didnt hear any weird sound coming from the car.

Hrm, the 3-door version, makes sense to keep it low in equipment but the price difference is way too little. If it was priced below RM200k that would be a good buy for folks who want to take the car out and mod it for racing.

*
You sure is 'wheel hop' and not just 'wheel spin' ? hmm.gif

How much roughly would it be for silicone wipers?

I know bosch aerotwins would work.

Guys...my SA said installing tint outside from their panel will void the VGM warranty. Is this true? However, installing leather on seat & door wont. This is very strange...installing leather will require much more dismantling right.

installing leather for seats won't void warranty,
as long as they don't tamper with the sensor

same for tint, usually they will just avoid the rain sensor part

Saw the video. I think mine is just wheel spin under traction control when doing u-turn or slightly sandy-road, from zero. Hard to see if anything crack unless send to mechanic to inspect for 'wheel hop'.

Send to SC, they sure say no problem yawn.gif

The main point is find those tinter outside, who deals with conti cars. They will know the sensors in front dashboard, etc. and will take pre-caution.

Even installing leather seat, the person must know about those conti cars, where the airbag locations, and not to sew "tight" or leave gap in those areas.

but u cannot claim them in case the side airbag does not deploy in emergency case coz you'd modified the original factory parts (seats).

the new gti is terribly expensive...and say hi to the options game...i think VW malaysia could've priced the gti at less than 190k at about 180+k and still make a profit but they're too greedy....

Was told that VW is offering RM 12,600 discount for the VW CC Comfortline. This makes the CC about RM28K cheaper than the BMW 320i. Besides the engine and transmission which the BMW is supreme, what other plus points does the CC have over the 320i?

now i know what is wheel hop.

Mk7 GTI 3 door has very poor specs, lower than gti mk5 specs hmm..

3 door = 209K
5 door = 218K
5 door tech pack = 228K

the performance pack with 230PS, better brakes and LSD are not available yet.

will be going for a test drive with VCM this weekend.

Did about 3 test drives on the CC and 2 on the 320i today. I must say im quite impressed with the CC. Despite being a 1.8L vs the 2.0L 320i, i didnt really feel the difference in power. The gearshifts on the 320i was quite seemless but the 7 speed DSG wasnt far behind at all. Taking into account the better specs, more executive interior of the CC and the 23K cheaper price tag, im quite inclined towards the CC now compared to the 320i.

What do you think?

Just pray very hard that the 7-speed DSG gearbox doesn't cause you any grief. In terms of after service, I would recommend that you choose a dealer with a good reputation. Otherwise get a lot of headaches as well. This goes for both marques.

Test drove the Mk7 Gti today, will test drive again tomorrow lol

engine sound is different, Mk6 Gti is better i think
less thick steering wheel compared to mk6 gti
power is more low down due to the 350Nm torque
very confident handling, and this is without DCC and the diff from PPack(coming soon)

discount for RM5k to upgrade to tech pack and RM1.5K top up for 19" santiago rims

Confirm P Pack coming soon ? And the upgrade price is half of what was quoted in Paul Tan ?

I was planning to test drive next week with intention to book already ( if everything goes well la ! )
but this will make me pause. Not that I really need the power pack but for the price diff (in UK) Why not.

Hi , I have a few questions to ask about my Polo TSI and hope somebody kind here to answer my questions .

I intend to change my Polo's Audio System ( RCD210 ) to a RCD510 which I'm going to buy on eBay .
But after I change the audio system , will the parking aid system on the RCD210 still appear on the RCD510 ?
Also , is it easy to change it ? How much would it cost if I ask someone to change it for me ?
Would my warranty be voided if I change it ?

Hope someone could answer my questions . thanks !

Test drove the MK7 GTI the other day!!!

As a conclusion, all I can say is that it is the most awesome hatchback I have driven in a long time! Power is much better than the MK6 GTI !!

Engine & exhaust sound is fabulous, handling and ride is a joy . It is just so damn fun to drive this car. It is much better than the A250 in terms of driving , but the A250 wins in terms of looks.

On a sidenote, the problematic gearbox is the 7 speeder gearbox! 6 speeders in the GTIs are perfect. No issues at all as I have a MK6 GTI now. No issues at all.

Tested it today and I've the same feeling. I find the engine and exhaust a bit too quiet for a hot hatch, hardly hear the noise while sitting inside the car.

Between the A200 and TSI7, I'd go for the Merc. Between the A250 and GTI7, I'd pick the GTI. This is just my personal preference la.

Really depends also, what exactly you're looking for in a car - practicality, performance?

The 7-speeder is the one you will constantly hear about breaking down. Just go to Volkswagen Malaysia Facebook page and see the numerous complaints about that. VW had a recall for that but still there are cases where it did break down.

For my personal view, this is just mine only, I love the design of the CC, seriously looks sexy but the interior is bland in my opinion (off the current Passat design) and I don't like the 7-speed DSG gearbox. I am the itchy type would like more power and the recommended limitation of the 7-speed DSG gearbox is only 250Nm with tolerances of up till close to 300Nm. My pet peeves with VW is that the service quality is quite shitty, they don't notify you when something is wrong with your car, they set false expectations and they constantly give bullshit excuses.

The 320i on the other hand, is lacking of accessories in terms of the interior. I would like it to have a bigger screen of course and with all the other bells and whistles. Power wise it is good and a simple tuning box you can get more power out of the engine. I love the 8-speed ZF gearbox on the BMW, really awesome and smooth compared to my E90's 6-speed gearbox. After abusing the F30's on the track for two days, I come to appreciate the car a lot more, in terms of the brakes and durability (went around 30 laps with a quick 10 minute break between 15 laps) and the car still can take it with hard braking. Just that the suspension isn't really that setup for track but overall in terms of driveability and comfort, I like it very much.

If I were to spend in that price range, I would wait till the end of the year, and see if there are any stock clearance deals and get myself a used 328i or a premium selection 328i.

The reason to make 7-speed DSG is to:
1.Improve Acceleration
2.Improve fuel consumption

That is why they chose dry clutch because with wet clutch there is more power loss which will negate the purpose of point 1 & 2. Which is evident when coupling it on lower powered engines. A dry DSG will perform better than a wet DSG at the price of durability.

As much theory as you can spout, if you haven't gone through the constant headaches that comes with the dry DSG, don't go spouting all the "theories" behind it. I have gone through two mechatronic failures and not having my car for more than 4 weeks to get them replaced.

Also don't just spew off marketing facts because if based on your points,

1) Improve acceleration, then the R series and the Golf GTI and Scirocco 2.0 would be using the 7-speed DSG. But no, they still stuck with the 6-speed DSG instead.
2) Your definition of better performance is purely on just fuel consumption and definitely not in terms of car speed, acceleration and driving performance.
3) "A dry DSG will perform better than a wet DSG at the price of durability".
I fill up my tank on a weekly basis. With the dry DSG and your so called better performance, maybe I save RM5-7 a week. In total, 53 weeks a year, I save RM371 a year. If my mechatronic fails outside of warranty, it would costs RM8000 to replace it. I would need to drive 21 years before I actually reach my savings of RM8000. Hell no.

Because Golf & Scuricci R has higher engine output. Dry Clutch is only suitable in lower powered engines, even though it offers more power & fuel efficiency it cannot handle higher power. Note i'm talking about the wet/dry aspect and not the 6/7 speed, because if we take into account 6/7 speed obviously with the quick shifting of DSG having an extra gear helps optimizing acceleration & fuel consumption, at the cost of the weight of 1 extra gear which is outweighed by the benefit.

2) Your definition of better performance is purely on just fuel consumption and definitely not in terms of car speed, acceleration and driving performance.

I don't see why not, unless you have 2 identical cars 1 using dry & 1 using wet side by side going 0-100 to prove it, wet clutch will require more inertia due to resistance by the liquid while dry has more grip, so dry will be able to accelerate more than wet, unless you are comparing it in endurance then dry clutch will burn out faster & becomes slower or totally stop.

Hell no.

So? Isn't that my point?

*
In the end i stated Dry clutch has the performance benefits over Wet, at the price of Durability & only suitable to lower powered engine. I never stated Dry clutch is better than Wet so there is no reason to get upset about my statements even though i feel for you having to go tru the pain of spending time & money repairing the DSG and i'm sorry that you have to experience it 1st hand instead of doing some research over it before choosing your purchase.

If DSG or Semi-Auto is really that great overall Toyota would have used the technology, but even their LFA is still automatic, and only GT-R, Evo & Sti uses similar tech. In the end you want performance & tech you pay for it. If only we have the manual version here, but even Polo they ditched it for the DSG. I guess higher maintenance benefits local service centers.

BTW rm8k is considered cheap for a 7-speed DSG replacement.

Occasional spirited driving with the 1.4tsi dry clutch Golf or Scirocco should be fine. But some of the owners drive them like it's a GTI. Not what the gear box was intended to do, which leads to problems I guess..

Ford's 6-speeder dry clutch does have its problems although not as problematic as the VW's?

Not upset at all, just stating my opinion that's all. I couldn't have known about the DSG at the time. I got the 1st batch of Golf TSI so at the time no one had the experience with the dry clutch DSG. RM8k is only for the mechatronic portion and not the full gearbox. cry.gif cry.gif But not faulting the dry clutch at all, it is just that the issue with it wasn't admitted by VW until much much later and after so many other countries have issued recalls. Apparently it is caused by the built-up of sulphur which shorts the wires.

Well the LFA was designed to be as light as possible by the engineers so they chose a single clutch sequential gearbox.

"When asked why a single-clutch sequential gearbox was chosen for the LFA rather than the dual-clutch gearboxes that are in vogue these days, Lexus' representative explained that the sequential transaxle was both lighter and less complex than the dual-clutch. As you'll soon learn, lightness is something that the LFA's engineers took very seriously." - Quote from an article

Actually you are right in terms of overall efficiency. Based on a report where they used a 6-speed DSG wet clutch and a 7-speed DSG dry clutch on a Golf 1.4, the efficiency of the dry clutch is 91% versus 85% on the 6-speed wet clutch. I am assuming that better efficient transfer of gears and power should equate to better acceleration, couldn't find any sources which will prove that - reference

In terms of how great DSG is, well, there will always be two schools of thought for it. So far the ones that come up to mind are usually those in the VW family such as VW, SEAT, Skoda, Audi, Porsche, Bugatti as well as other makers such as Ford, BMW (in their M models), BYD, Chrysler, GM, Honda (in development), Hyundai, McLaren, Mercdes Benz, Mitsubish, Nissan, and Renault. Of course not all of them use dual clutch systems on all of their range of vehicles. - Frame of reference

The 6% better efficiency is not just because of Dry vs Wet, but because 7 gears are more optimized compared to 6, the Dry clutch does add some efficiency over the Wet but it's less than 6%, maybe 4%-5%. The extra 7th gear improves acceleration because each gear range are shorter so the car can accelerate better, but makes little difference in start/stop driving. The reason manufacturers went for Dry is because efficiency (which result in less power loss & better fuel consumption), and 2: Less stringent requirement for sealing to prevent oil leak in wet clutch thus cheaper & also allowing manufacturers to claim it's maintenance free since you don't need to change the oil.

However comparing Dry & Wet, the difference in terms of performance is really negligible unless you are racing in the circuit, for most people a 0.5s difference means nothing other than shiok sendiri. Like it matters 99% of the time people drive.

Even comparing Auto vs DSG it's not that significant compared to the production cost & maintenance+repair cost. That is why Manufacturers who emphasize on reliability like Toyota & Honda don't really focus on them. For European cars that emphasize on performance & the fact that long lasting isn't their main concern allows them to use all the advance technology available. That is why people consider european cars more advanced. Just like performance tyre vs normal tyre, there's no such thing as both performance & endurance.

DSG has been around very long time, Audi was the earliest to implement it. Most people know how expensive it is to fix DSG, even Proton Savvy uses the SSG (AMT they call it), and guess what, the gear cost more than the car today. Impressive it is, the reliability is still a big question mark even after more than a decade on commercial vehicles. At least for high powered cars with Auto Transmission, aggressive driving doesn't wear the gear down as much as DSG. Yet i don't know why for non performance car they chose DSG over more economically sound Automatics where cost is a concern for both buyer & manufacturers.

Also don't forget, Single or Dual Clutch, the computerized gear will grab & let go of the clutch when the gear is engaged, unlike Manual Clutch where the driver can balance out the grip of the clutch depending on the speed. Imagine letting go of the clutch pedal immediately after downshift under city drive, it won't just make the car jerk but also put stress on the gear & also other parts like driveshaft & engine. For DSG the computer doesn't car about the Clutch.

Actually most of the European manufacturers have to adhere to a lot of emissions standards in the UK as well hence the push towards technologies that increase efficiency and reduce overall emission rates. Based on the report I posted in the link, the main conclusion that with the use of the DSG gearboxes over the conventional 6-speed automatic that they used to use, their overall emissions are reduced, not from just the driving perspective but in terms of manufacturing of the gearboxes, servicing and recycling.

In terms of performance, it makes a difference for enthusiasts because of the limiting torque factor of the DQ200 gearbox thanks to it's 250Nm limitation. Not even in terms of performance junkies but also to the European market who favours diesel powered cars/4WD, they can't alone rely on the DQ200. Hence a lot of speed enthusiasts, if they can afford it will go for the more performance ready DQ250 and the DQ500. But for the everyday, point A to point B drivers, the DQ200 will serve them just fine.

But again, I think we have diverged very far away from the main point which was the question, "Is the 7-speeder gearbox problematic".

Check thoroughly, watch out for scratches, dents, scuffs on the rims, check all indicators, electronic switches, windscreen wiper, mileage and the interior if there is any damage. Other than those, can't think of anything else.

Hope someone could answer my questions . thanks !

Yes but only rear part as you do not have front sensors;

Hie guys , just wanna ask regarding my

Golf GTI: is it normal for the car to have squeaking sound from the doors after about 1 year driving it?

POLO Tsi: my car had the usual clutch slip problem. So sent to VW SC to replace the clutch pack. Everything was ok till recently, whenever i go low speed, say around 20-30kmh i can hear some metal sound from below the car. This only happens at low speed. But at higher speeds, thr issint any sound.

Is it the gearbox problem?

Tq sifus!

i've tested the vw passat and the mark 7 golf tsi way back in april. i personally felt the passat was nicer to drive than the golf but don't get me wrong. the golf was good enough. last sunday i've tested the recently launched mark 7 gti. The car's performance was bullet enough eventhough some of it's rivals offer slightly more horsepower and the handling was brilliant but not as sensational as the bimmer. well, rwd cannot beat the fwd or awd in terms of sheer sensation. but one thing i've noticed was it's not as refine as the tsi in terms of NVH. The sound insulation is poorer than the tsi or passat. The engine sounds rough and feels rough at low rpm but once the soundaktor activate at 3+++rpm i think, it sounds quite good with the pop exhaust sound when upshifting. The strange thing was that the gti sounds even poorer than the toyota or honda NA engine at low rpm but not in the case of the tsi or the passat. But the main that i'm gonna highlight is about the dsg in the gti. When in the passat or the golf tsi that using the 7speed dry clutch, there was literally no vibration when in D or R on idling. It's like the same vibration-free that u feel when in N. But in the gti which use the 6speed wet clutch, the vibration can be felt. i thought only the japanese car got vibration. This is the the 1st german car that i felt it. Quite frustated actualy. In overall, the gti is a great rounded car but the pricing is ridiculous. Not getting a sunroof, smart entry, lether seat, navigation, DCC on 218k price tag. phewww hmm.gif

different cars altogether...assuming you have no interest in cars, just go for 1.4 tsi....GTI is for car enthusiasts...maintenance is more expensive than regular golf and if you don't know how to enjoy it i doubt it's worth the money

In my case we got it with BMW but not VW.

Honestly after test driven both , albeit very short time Gti mk 7 interior seems better finished .

Second to that notion. If you drive a GTI, your last priority is FC. First priority is to seek out who to smoke!

How much expected price reduction for polo sedan? Any indication?
How bout jetta, when will CKD?
All this CKD plan by VW Malaysia will it affect previous model 2nd hand value? if affect then dont they bother about current owners that help them to be in the level they are today... blink.gif

Polo sedan lacks a lot of key VW signature technology, even if CKD, not very attractive.

Might be mechanical failure on lower gear. Try using manual mode to see which gear causing the problem.

QUOTE(Mamapapamsia @ Aug 27 2013, 07:36 PM)
Hie guys , just wanna ask regarding my

Golf GTI: is it normal for the car to have squeaking sound from the doors after about 1 year driving it?

POLO Tsi: my car had the usual clutch slip problem. So sent to VW SC to replace the clutch pack. Everything was ok till recently, whenever i go low speed, say around 20-30kmh i can hear some metal sound from below the car. This only happens at low speed. But at higher speeds, thr issint any sound.

Is it the gearbox problem?

Tq sifus!

tried calling few SA regarding Gti mk7 , seems most branches have ready stock for almost every colour option.

Is the public response not as great as they hope ? even normal Mk 7 is not that common in KL. Maybe if I hold on can get good discount blush.gif
