Not sure if this is the right place to post, anyway...

Dear all, im MengQ.

Not a VW Polo owner, yet. Your honest answer to this question will pretty much decide if i will be an owner or not.

I've recently spotted this used 2 door Polo GTi, year 2011 November. Clocked only 19,000km++, at a used car dealer in Bukit Jalil. Dealer claims still under warranty, i doubt that, due to the D2 8pot brake calipers and Milltek exhaust modifications done.

Attached link below is the exact unit i've been craving for.

http://www.carlist.my/used-cars/1186432/20...ltek-specs.html

I've been thinking of this for almost a week if i should get it. I've heard too many different stories (mostly are negative) and a search on the web, the Polo GTi seems to have a lot of 'lemon cases'. The VW SC guys told me the reliability "it's a matter of time". My friend who is driving a VW Golf GTi MK6 told me the same thing as well and 'wish me good luck' if im to get this used Polo.

I really hope to hear honest answers/advice from you guys.

Is this car really problematic? What are possibilities and what sort of issues i should look out for? The only reason i wish to buy this car is to have fun and not having the extra headache and burden to fix issues.

Thank you so much for your advice and feedbacks, really appreciate it.

gti mk-vi is 6 speed wet, however i read elsewhere even though wet breaks less than dry, the design is still not meant for hot weather countries so people still have problem with the wet 6 speed?

To be safe to save you rm12k on repair, just keep the rev under 4.5k lo.

Once in a bluemoon only rev kao kao.

Any of you guys got rattling sound coming from engine bay?

I usually get rattling sound from my polo tsi in the morning when engine is idle. After shift to D the sound is gone and when I stop and put to N again sound is there.

After reaching work, the car idle no rattling sound.

Any idea what is causing this? feels irritating early morning got some crap sound...

RM100 for 400km? In a Golf GTI?

I'm a heavy-footer myself, and managed SG > Kluang > Subang in a single tank with the GTI7. Average speed was ~140km/h so I was really pushing it. Don't think the GTI6 would struggle to match those figures? Btw, that's about 500km. Even in my Polo GTI, I can do 380km or so with RM80 worth of fuel.

Hi Meng, I am an existing PGTI owner myself - 8 months and I've already clocked 20,000km. There are both pros and cons to the car, but I've had a good experience so far. In terms of fixes, I've had the radiator replaced (under warranty) due to slight crack and have also recently had my mecha and gearbox replaced as part of the DSG7 recall.

Apart from some rattling noises in-cabin, the car drives well and I push it hard 40% or more of the time. I am happy driving. If you are keen on a PGTI which hasn't been modded, I know a red, 5-door unit who's owner is considering selling (not sure if sold yet) his as he just bought a 3rd car.

As with buying used, always look at the car in person and request for a test drive when possible. For a car that's <5 years, apart from wear and tear issues, there's generally not very much else to look out for.

I drove one from IPOH to PG. Very nice car with very good torque and horse power. Too bad no push start and side mirror a bit small. It feels like a 2.0!!!

it's odd though, given the fact of the recent mk6 GTI price drop
i don't see mk5 GTI prices dropping below 100k

That is exactly what I was thinking when you first mentioned the price. I found it hard to believe, especially since mk5 prices haven't gone below Rm100k yet! Why get a mk5 when you can top-up a bit more for a mk6 (which is a far more superior car) right??

Genuinely shocking... wonder if these prices are accurate. But different sellers in different locations...

Honestly, at that price, I would go for the Golf GTI Mk6 instead. You get more power and more bang for buck.

Why the Mk6 GTI? It has more power, a more reliable DSG gearbox and its more fun
