Guys I'm facing a prob here. I connected my macbook to external monitor for sometimes ady, but yesterday dunno why suddenly there is discolouration(light blue) on the external monitor. I can use everything normally, just that now the background has light blue discolouration which is very irritating. If I change back to macbook screen, eevrything is normal. It only happens when I use external monitor. Anyone has any idea how to solve this problem?

I have a question, about the Mountain Lion Up-to-date Program, they say "Customers must request their Up-to-Date upgrade within 30 days of purchasing their Mac computer.", it means we request after we got our mbp or now? Coz the new mbp takes 3-4 weeks to deliver

Macbook Pro 13" with Retina Display is coming out August - October time frame. Will wait for that rather than buying a huge 15" which I don't really utilize the extra powerful graphics and humongous screen size, can use thunderbolt display for that smile.gif

You don't need to. The Display setting is set to "Automatic switching". I trust Apple is smart enough to switch between HD4000 and GT650M when the applications demands for it.

At "Best Retina" settings, scrolling iTunes and Safari is smooth. At the "Most space" setting emulating 1920x1200, even that is smooth as well, although the icons and texts starts to look tiny.

At the Display preference settings, Apple even warns that displaying setting at non-native a.k.a scaled resolution, it will cause performance degradation. I initially liked the "More Space"/1920x1200 setting, but have grown to love the ultra crispness of "Best Retina" setting.

Added on June 16, 2012, 7:45 pmAlso, to all new MBP RD owners, first thing you need to do (besides restoring from older backups) is install all the Software Updates. There is the important "Trackpad Update" that was reported to improve scrolling mechanism on Retina Display screen. Personally, I don't see any difference, since mine works buttery smooth.

Everywhere also sold out.

Say next week new stock.

If they don't get 256GB by next week, I'm just gonna get the 512GB model.

Going overseas for studies in 2 weeks, I need to get mine by next week!

Also, new MBP RD owners may wanna try Google Chrome Canary, the developer channel version of Google Chrome browser. Supports Retina Display, and ZERO lag on this one. Safari on Lion reportedly doesn't take advantage of any of the hardware capability of either the HD4000 or GT650M. Safari on Mountain Lion will fix that next month.

you could set it to prompt for password each time the display wakes up from sleep - something you could initiate either automatically or via hot corners.

I've always plugged my apple notebooks and used it straight out of the box on first charge since my first apple notebook which was a PowerBook.

i see, btw, i saw few of my friend's which they just charge their macbook until full power, then unplug and use until low power then re-plug and charge + use until full power and repeated few times a day blink.gif
is that the correct way of using mac ? or just plug in the power when using then unplug it when shutdown ?

all lithium based batteries have charge cycles.

the "proper" way to use your battery if you're near a power source is to keep it plugged in, with a recalibration done every month or so.

you can do that also, but will damage your battery in the long term.
as for me, i leave it plugged in when I'm at home.
it won't continue charging once the light indicator turns green

i thought the correct way of using every built in battery laptop is to drain the battery inside and charge it only when it reaches the bottom, and plugging the power even it full will damage the battery itself, isn't it?

Standard Maintenance

For proper maintenance of a lithium-based battery, it’s important to keep the electrons in it moving occasionally. Apple does not recommend leaving your portable plugged in all the time. An ideal use would be a commuter who uses her notebook on the train, then plugs it in at the office to charge. This keeps the battery juices flowing. If on the other hand, you use a desktop computer at work, and save a notebook for infrequent travel, Apple recommends charging and discharging its battery at least once per month. Need a reminder? Add an event to your desktop’s iCal. When your battery no longer holds sufficient charge to meet your needs, you may choose to replace it. If your notebook came with a built-in battery, you should have the battery replaced only by an Apple Authorized Service Provider.

As far as I know, online order takes 3-4 weeks, and I am leaving overseas in 3 weeks. I will be overseas the next 3 years. So I am afraid I can't risk online orders.

Most stores I called has either sold out or didn't get any stock. Those that did receive stock got only the 512GB model, not the 256GB model.

a thin and light 13" rmpb will kill the reason to own a 13" mac book air. and we can't be sure if its going to be released or not since the story is just a speculation by a credible analyst based on an online battery log hmm.gif

Furthermore, it needs all the big space for battery to last 7 hours.
And the space for heat dissipation.
I also don't believe Apple will introduce MBPRD 13" so soon.

it doesn't makes sense to have 3 13" models.
the 13" RMBP will replace the normal MBP, they won't make 3 models to confuse consumers.
if so, this update would come next year

marketing wise apple will spoil its own product line. Analyst can say what ever they want but bottom line is about the hard selling.

Good catch, Edoras! Holy shit, the Holy Grail of videos, 4K footages!

The Pixar test animation is so sharp my eyeballs bleed! Watching The Hobbit one now. The Transformers one nearly killed my MBP RD. The fan ran on overdrive on my MBP RD, and stutters like hell! Replayed it and then it because smooth. Good find, Edoras!

Adding that link on the first post for the benefit of new MBP RD owners.

I got as far as the splash screen coz I installed the Starter Edition. No Starter game key yet, only be getting it later this evening. Starter Edition is the demo if anyone dont know what that is.

The splash screen is slick though at 2880x1800, and I dont see any lag. The splash screen is real time 3D anmation right?

I have cousins whose friends work at Machines. Hopefully they keep me up-to-date when the 256GB comes here.

I kinda feel that 256GB wont be enough, but the 512GB model price difference is just too damn high. RM2,000. With that money I can get an external 1TB HDD or something. So it's a bit of a dilemma for me.

Just tested Diablo 3 on 2880x1800, thanks to forum member Welwitchia for loaning his account. Jaw dropping doesn't begin to describe it. 2880x1800 at 25-30fps constant. Will drop to 15-17fps on heavier enemy scenes, but with shadows and high details. Drop it down further to 1680x1050 and its a solid 60fps. AWESOME, Blizzard!

Screenshots incoming. I had to upload it so a image sharing website that would not degrade the image quality down from its 2880x1800 quality. Stay tuned!

*gonna finally open that Diablo 3 LE that still shrink-wrapped at home*

Currently still using MBP 13" since Dec 2008 when unibody first came out.... so 13" is ideal for me... 15" is a little too big for me to carry it around... but nowdays only carry iPad3 everywhere with all my docs in Dropbox.. a much lighter solution..

Don't believe the MBPRD 13" rumors. Apple marketing strategy will not kill the current MBA and MBP. They have studied well.
I have an MBA 13" but when I have the 15" MBPRD, the speed and display was damn fast, I will not turn back to smaller screen. The MBPRD is light enough to carry.

We can't keep up with the latest technology but at least we can fully utilize it when its still new....
I for one is an "early adopter"... And I believe some of use here are also "early adopters". We have to premium to be one but at least we are satisfied in what we buy.... Use to the fullest and you will never regret...

depends on our needs. if everything you also need except mobility, then go for desktop.
if everything oso need include mobility, go for macbook pro laptop
if only need for surfing, some document and light gaming, go for mb air
if only want mobility and social / gaming, gor for ipad ~

doesn't seem like apple will do that, although I'm aware of the rumors.
if they release it, theres gonna be 3 13" models, and it will eventually kill its own product line

maybe the all new the generation of macbook pro will have the retina display (13" and 15"). but it'll come in stages. just like how they released the first gen of macbook aluminum and the white macbook was still in production for a period of time before they discontinued it.

but compared to the "L" shaped magsafe, which is it better?
since putting it on the bed will cause unevenness and might detach the new Magsafe 2 because of its design

really a very nice throughout review. especially on d screen where we can see how much the glare had been reduced, and the color contrast on different viewing angle.

w00t!

After many days of contemplation whether or not to upgrade from my current MacBook Pro 15", ..... finally just placed my order for the MBP Retina Display. biggrin.gif

Ships in 3-4 weeks time. Can't wait! happy.gif

Weird that the status still shows 'Processing' even after I made the order since lunchtime today, and my credit card company has confirmed the transaction too.

His words not mine, but from a person met at MacStudio yesterday who is used to working on the 17", and switched to my MBP RD, he says the experience is the same because of the resolution at negligible screen size difference. His words, not mine.

No surprises why Apple discontinued the 17" behemoth.

Its slightly easier to be detach with Magsafe2 design due to its design to plug straight instead of the L shape.

Actually, I prefer this way. tongue.gif  Safer..

i think its better to have a L shaped one.
previously it was like the magsafe 2 design, then Apple came up with the L shape

Hi,
I noticed many of you are buying online.
Is it because you all are upgrading the specs?

If I'm buying the standard specs, is it advisable to buy from Machines store or online?

Thanks

Present MBP RD owners looking for 4k footage, google "Timescapes: The Movie". The trailer of this movie is a WHOPPING 540MB on Youtube, which you can download using Youtube movie downloader app. 4096 x 2304 resolution, BEYOND the Retina Display, so your MBP RD will have to downsample the video to Retina resolution.

It's like looking out of the window!

Here is the Youtube link. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e-GYrbecb88

If you're using Chrome, you can get Chrome Extensions that'll allow you to download this at its WHOPPING 4096 x 2304! shocking.gif

ACPP will set you back about RM700++ I think. And anyway, they give the second year warranty for free to those who buy and is a member of SenQ(RM12 for membership). So no harm in getting one I suppose.

They are getting better at serving Apple specific customers, but are still room for improvement.

Anyway, replaced my old Late 2011 13" model with the newer Ivy Bridge 2.5 Ghz already. My standard workhorse, just need to install Diablo III and compare how well it can run it.

Never owned a Mac before but thinking of taking the plunge.

Would you guys go for the MacBook Air over the Pro ? I have a gaming/high performance PC already so looking more for mobility + battery life.

Will be using it for simple tasks like Documents, minor photo edits and Internet.

Not really essential to get a laptop and was previously hoping for a touch screen Air ala "iPad + Keyboard" but work has increased my traveling significantly so anything with a long battery life would be awesome.

Looking for value here so if RM500-600 more will get me a better lappie than an Air then I'm all for it !

p/s: owned a few netbooks before hand but all 5-6 hours of battery life which was no good to me.

You can buy the ACPP & activate it within your 12 months machine standard warranty period.

Benefit - save you a lot of $ if your machine require logic board or screen panel replacement.

ACPP give you another 2 years warranty, 1 year standard + 2 years ACPP = total 3 years.

Not 4 years.

Usually for display set, supplier will provide reseller set that is a bit cheaper, around 10 to 20% off, those are strictly for display only. Their serial number is different too for display unit.

Something like xx....

I seen them before, I did ask if I can buy those, my supplier told me if I buy, you cannot register the machine or claim warranty.

Anyone working in reseller shop can clarified this?

Because whatever initial run that Apple has made goes to the stores first. That is why big guys like Machines has stock already for the newer Macs. Last night, went there and played around with the retina display Mac.

Beautiful, nice screen. Price not really practical for most person though.

Standard for most display set agreement, and it is part of the agreement you have to sign if you really want to become Apple reseller.

Guys I have a question ask about the "Cap Lock" issue posted here: http://blog.tysonwilliams.com/2010/01/20/c...on-macbook-pro/

Is it true? I was planning to contact Apple to replace the Cap locks key. I always type fast, my wpm is around 100 - 120 and I usually hit it rather than press it. Anyone has solution to this to disable the security function?

Edit: Nevermind, issue fixed.

slimness is one thing - it's almost impossible to fit an ethernet port on the current thickness of the MBP Retina

the other main thing is weight. optical drives aren't light, and to keep the weight down to an amazing 2kg, Apple just had to remove it.

basically weight is the MAIN reason i ordered the MBP Retina to replace my 2011 MBP 15". smile.gif

Actually most people would be confused as well since Apple named their Macbook Pro with Retina the 'next generation' Macbook Pro.

And thus many would think that when they buy ANY Macbook Pro 2012, it will be the 'next-gen' with 'next-gen' specs as well.

Dunno whether to applaud Apple's marketing on this or not. laugh.gif laugh.gif

I'm stuck with a generic sleeve (gunmetal though) purchased from MacStudio. Criteria was slim and tight fitting so it satisfy both. Sleeve and zippered at the narrow end, and the zipper has this protective flap so tat when zippered it won't "bite" into the Retina Display MBP.

I'm thinking of getting a 15" Enevelope leather sleeve I used to have for my 13" Air last time.

Added on June 19, 2012, 12:35 pmI'll be dropping by KLCC, Low Yat Plaza and Pavilion with 4K footages to showcase how good they look on the MBP RD. Drop by if you have the chance. Details on my whereabouts are in my Twitter feed.

Just got back from Machines KLCC.

HOLY SHIT!

That Retina Display is just gorgeous!

Did a side by side comparison with the old MBP and it was a world of difference!

Also did a weight check, and the new MBP is so freakin' light compared to the old 15".

Now just patiently waiting for the stock to arrive.

Those looking for official accessories for the new Retina Display MacBook Pro, some are available at Machines.

MagSafe 1 to MagSafe 2 adapter = RM39
Thunderbolt to Gigabit Ethernet adapter = RM99

I'm canceling my [WTS] HyperJuice 100Whr External Battery I have for my previous MacBook Air 11". With the MagSafe adapter, now can use with the HyperJuice battery! rclxms.gif

Just received my MBP 13" 2012.

I thought it supposed to be around 25% slimmer?

Or is it only apply to retina macbook 15" ?
*
It was meant for the MacBook Pro with Retina Display and it was in comparison to the exiting line ups.

Still need to somehow justify this to the wife, with Raya coming. tongue.gif .

Yes, the MBP 13" changes are basically the specs, Ivy Bridge processor, HD4000 graphics and DDR1600 Ram. No other changes, thickness wise or not. Am considering taking either the new Air 11" or the 13". Probably will take the 13", easier to go office to office here in Seremban.

As far as I know, it has always been that way. Machines seems to get everything first as compared to MacStudio. One of the reasons I usually head out to Midvalley if I wanted to play around and test Apple's latest and greatest. And the beauty is, the staff knows full well not to disturb people testing out the Machines.

Well, unless idiots try to do drop test of course.

On another note, the staff also will layan you if you call an enquire about what stock is available.

Noooooo, my experience was the staff will always stand right beside you like some flies on poop. Pretty darn annoying. That is for Machines' staff. I find Epicentre staff best, coz they don't bother bout you at all. LOL which is great.

Trackpad Retina update not installed/applied. That fixes it. Display units are normally taken out of retail boxes and displayed straight away.

DDR1600 is still quite rare in the market, even for desktop. And another thing, asking for a RAM upgrade at an Apple Store is madness in itself.

As a CONSUMER can't i really have my purchasing is compatible to the standard spec, if someone sell you something that are older version and you still need to pay the same amount, will you? There is no wrong to try if they do have the upgrading service and even i know we need to purchase online if want upgrade spec...

I guess there is one drawback to owning a MBP RD: I can't read my Mail, FaceBook and Twitter in private anymore. The screen is visible from far away!

Privacy filter time? but that'll degrade the screen gorgeousness......

I see. Well I don't think we have to wait 3 weeks. I think 2 weeks are most likely. This is still a 7k laptop we're talking about, not iPhone. 3-4 weeks are worst case scenario I reckon.

anyone here concerned that the new macbook is hard to replace and upgrade? everything is glued together, u can't pop and replace

your battery dead? send it in.

want more ram? can't change that either.

that is one reason i canceled my retina order and will probably get the non-retina new version.

I came from the Macbook Air camp. The camp where non-changable specs isn't a a reason to not use our MacBook Air. This is my return to a "Pro" Mac since my last PowerPC Powerbook in 2005, that's 7 years waiting. All this while my video and photo editing has been on my Mac Mini. The freedom of being able to do so wherever I want is liberating.

The correct way to do this when it comes to non-changable specs is to ask yourself what you're gonna do with this and then match the specs that you need with it. If you're thinking of changing specs every time you have a whim, then maybe a desktop is for you, not a laptop? With specs-matching up to 16GB RAM and the high end non-BTO of 2.6GHz, it is more than enough to last you 3-5 years. Storage can easily be solved by USB and/or Thunderbolt external storage.

Keyword: Know what you wanna do and then match the specs you need. Moving in and out of specs on a whim, then you're stuck with the age old chassis. At the Keynote itself, Phil Schiller himself already mentioned why this Next-Generation MBP is introduced, to get rid of legacy hardware and to move on to hardware that is catered to the present AND the future.. Everything else, stay with the old model.

Apple has trained its audience to keep non-changable specs hardware with 3 revisions of the MacBook Air. It's time to educate the Pro Macs users the same. Whether you subscribe to that line of thinking or otherwise, you have the option or doing so(thinner next-gen tech), or doing otherwise (same old dimensions and old/present tech).

agreed with stringfellow. i didnt see reason for it to be "upgrade-able" or so called "future proof" .. cos what you can upgrade for most of the laptop is just the ram and harddisk.. you can never upgrade a proc, mobo and gc.. so, why not everything just soldered and make it lighter, more compact and convenient to be use at everywhere ? if you think the current baseline cant suit your needs, just customize it, i bet there will be no other brand of laptop is as high tech and quality like the retina macbook pro. and this is multimedia laptop, not a gaming laptop tongue.gif

It was meant for the 2011 MacBook Air I had before I sold it. Now it works just as fine for the MBP RD. The larger 222Whr battery is too heavy to carry, 2.13Kg. This 100Whr version is 730gm, more manageable. I reckon if I do use this, I can use it up to 26hrs (as advertised) and still got enough run time to find a power outlet to recharge everything back. The intermediate 150Whr is 1.09Kg. Up to you if that is more manageable or not.

Purchased at M3shoppe.com.

Go back to the page when OSX Mountain Lion comes out. I faced the same thing too.

Added on June 20, 2012, 12:32 amNew Retina Macbook Pro user reporting in!

I'm using MBP 15' 2010 prior to this.

The very visible difference is the display. After 5 minutes on my RMBP, everything on my old MBP looked blur. Very blur in fact. I can't believe my eyes.

Speakers are upgraded too. The experience is VERY awesome now. If you been listening songs with the old MBP, you will notice a HUGE difference in terms of sound quality.

Reduced thickness and reduced weight are the noticeable difference when you hold it.

I do agree on stringfellow's comment on the upgrade of MBP. With this spec, I don't see myself changing laptop in the next two - three years. Why worry about the RAM? I seen most of the comments are concerning the RAM. As far as I know, 8GB is good enough for some intensive programs.

I can run iMovie, Aperture, and iBook Author all at the same time without any slow down.

The iBook I'm doing is around 1GB.

If you are really worry about the RAM, get 16GB directly. You might complain it is expensive right now. But you will appreciate when you need it in the future (2-3 years down the road).

Get a RMBP.

If you are in IT courses, high chance you will change your laptop to a faster speed laptop within 1-2 years time if you are using MBA. It is due to the nature of your course which required you to have a performing laptop.

The RMBP that you are getting is even faster than MBP 17' 3.4 Ghz 2011 edition.

Most likely you will not need to change the laptop for the rest of your study.

Macbook Air is good for mobility. But MBA mobility comes with a price. A reduction in terms of performance. The new RMBP has both, mobility and performance. 2KG for a 15's laptop is considered very light weight already.

The new RMBP is 50% faster compared to MBA. If you are going to use VM a lot, get 16GB ram.

GeekBench

The RMBP with 16GB RAM, 256 GB SSD is RM 6,811.00 (Use Educational Pricing since you are studying)

It can still perform flawlessly.

My previous MBP was 30% slower than top of the line MBA 2012. Still I'm using it to do all stuff of things which includes VM.

VM performance depends a lot on your remained RAM and your HDD speed. Get a big RAM and SSD equipped laptop.

Getting a RMBP will be good as you won't be thinking of changing laptop within 2-3 years time.

RMBP is kinda one year ahead of competition right now. By the time others are offering the same thing. It might be 1-2 years later.

Some guide on the pricing:
MBA will cost you around 3 - 4k.

RMBP will cost you around 6 - 7k.

MBP 13' with 1x SSD and 16GB Ram will cost you around 4 - 5k.

MBP 13' with 2x SSD (with 1GB read and write speed) will cost you 6 - 7k.

But MBP 13' with 2x SSD is a beast in terms of HDD speed. No laptop (stock hardware) in the world right now is running at this speed. Even RMBP do not have this kinda of read and write speed. laugh.gif

Added on June 20, 2012, 1:28 amDon't put in a very nice laptop bag la. My laptop bag is very beaten up one. Sure people think I'm a poor guy that brings a beaten up bag. But in fact, there is a RMBP inside. laugh.gif

I actually placed my order around 15 minutes after apple store malaysia reopened. Around 1 hour after the product is launched (4am if I'm not wrong).

Retina MBP.

All the way from Shanghai. Guess it is a Asia hub for asia purchases. So literally you guys are fighting with everyone in Asia to get the RMBP. Not just Malaysian.

My friend ordered in the morning (around 10am). The delivery time changed to 2 - 3 weeks.

Subsequently, it drops again to 3 - 4 weeks. With more reviews are popping up on the internet. More people will be flocking to get their RMBP. As this is a new product, people dare not put in big chuck of money at one go before any reliable review.

Overall, this is a extremely good product. I'm not comparing it to PC. By just comparing it to the non retina MBP, you will see huge differences.

I received my shipment on Monday 2pm. If you are eager to get it, track the shipment every now and then after you got the airway bill number. Go to DHL @ Subang Cargo Terminal and collect it. It will be faster that way.

My shipment info:
Monday, June 18, 2012 Location Time
11 Delivered - KUALA LUMPUR - MALAYSIA 14:10
10 With delivery courier KUALA LUMPUR - MALAYSIA 14:09
9 Awaiting collection by recipient as requested KUALA LUMPUR - MALAYSIA 10:02

6 Departed Facility in KUALA LUMPUR - MALAYSIA KUALA LUMPUR - MALAYSIA 03:11
5 Processed at KUALA LUMPUR - MALAYSIA KUALA LUMPUR - MALAYSIA 03:10
4 Arrived at Sort Facility KUALA LUMPUR - MALAYSIA KUALA LUMPUR - MALAYSIA 01:28

Friday, June 15, 2012 Location Time
3 Departed Facility in SHANGHAI - CHINA, PEOPLES REPUBLIC SHANGHAI - CHINA, PEOPLES REPUBLIC 19:14
2 Processed at SHANGHAI - CHINA, PEOPLES REPUBLIC SHANGHAI - CHINA, PEOPLES REPUBLIC 18:17
1 Shipment picked up SHANGHAI - CHINA, PEOPLES REPUBLIC 17:01

The delivery is very fast. Once your RMBP leaves the warehouse, you will need 3-4 days only to reach Malaysia. The problem lies in the warehouse. No stock I guess. The amount of RMBP is kinda limited right now. Goto GeekBench, there is less than 1000 RMBP been tested worldwide.

Well, not for me actually.

I'm just happy that I would be able to shave off a very-noticeable 0.5 kg of weight off by using the RMBP. It's kinda crazy that I can shave-off that amount of weight while still having a whopping upgrade in specs (retina, SSD, thinness, multi-display output) compared to my current MBP 15". biggrin.gif

everything this RMBP has to offer fits in within my criteria, so its a good buy for me

Place it beside a non retina MBP and you will see the difference.
Play a high bit rate song in the RMBP and you will hear the difference.

Play a 4K resolution movie and every other Macs in the store will turn green with envy.

Trust me, other portables have no answer to the Retina Display. Even the 30 inch Thunderbolt Display can't match the Retina Display resolution.

I agree. This waiting game will never end. It's of course wise to wait just before any major announcements like WWDC and I believe the best time to get the products you want is right after these announcements. The products will be the latest and you won't have to worry about any major upgrades for the next coming 6-9 months.

Have you been using iPhone? Updating is like buying an app.
Install it and you are updated!
Never been so easy before.
Make sure your Internet line is smooth enough during the update.

It might download 3-4gb worth of data.

My last lion update downloaded 3gb during the updates.

why over priced?
normal 15" MBP add SSD and 8GB ram already more than the price of RMBP

Don't entertain those people, guys. Something is always overprice when you can't afford it. Ultrabooks section I that way. When you can't beat them, make excuses and troll them.

For something that has cutting edge tech display at this resolution like this, I'd expect Apple to be asking for 5 figures already.

Hi all,
just got my MBP 13" 2012 (3,699 model) last week, with a dual core i5 with 4G ram, performance wise definitely slower than my previous Dell inspiron quad-core i7 with 8GB, but think it's ok for me and still acceptable (dual core VS quad core maybe?)

Anyway, my macbook 13" hang almost everyday and I have to press power button to off & on again.

Could it due to insufficient RAM? My daily task is firefox + chrome (20-30 tabs), Mail, MAMP PRO, Coda 2, Keynote, Trillian, MS messenger, Evernote, Dropbox.

Is 4GB ram + an i5 dual core enough to fit all the purpose I mentioned? I'm thinking to get 2 x 4GB 1600 DDR3 ram to upgrade, anyone has any recommendation which brand/model is compatible with this macbook pro?

Appreciate if any comment/suggestion!

Of course, a dual core processor is slower than a quad core processor, especially if you are the type to open that many applications at the same time.

Next time, elaborate. Single liner like your previous post usually connotates typical habits of a troll. Trolls bait their prey by one liners so that their prey extol virtues that is easily shot down by the said troll so that his points are now taken in much better light since the troll has tarnished the credibility of the prey first.

People afford what they wanted to afford.

Oh, and the whole Starbucks things, well, I don't know how things are in KL, but here in Seremban, well, most of the time the device of choice in the Starbuck here happens to be the iPad.

Hell, sometimes I feel a bit unnerved when I pull out my 13" pro amongst the sea of iPads.

Just do it. You bought it for a reason: To use it. I didn't buy my portables to use it by hiding under the table. "Be fearless in all the things you do in life, and be careless about what others say and think about you".

Sad that these days your usage in public depends on what the rest of the public uses. In that case, all the jealous Tin Milo....ermm, I mean Proton car drivers dictates what should be around them and unnerves the single BMW driving past them.

The problem is probably caused by RAM capability and hard disk. It has nothing to do with processor unless you launch applications which utilize multicore processing.

You can check your RAM usage in activity monitor. 8GB RAM should solve your problem. A SSD allows your computer to launch applications, boot, shut down, file transfer faster.

Btw, folks, I'm gonna to get a MBP 15" next week. I currently use a MBP 15" 2.4 Ghz late 2011 model with 8Gb DDR3 1333mhz in my office. I find out that 8GB is not enough for me because I run virtual machine,.photoshop, and other software development tools. I have 2 questions:

1. I am no longer a student as I graduated on January. Can I purchase MBPRD from Apple Online Store using my cousin student id and change mailing address to my home address? Do I need to show my cousin supporting document during collection?

2. I went to EpiCenter (Apple Premium Reseller in SG) twice. To my surprise, Singapore doesn't have stock for MBPRD. I wonder why Machine and other Premium Reseller in MY have stock for MBPRD. I probably will go to KL on next Saturday, which outlets have display model?

Thanks in advance

*
Thanks a lot for your comment!

FYI, student discount normally don't need to verify anything (but if you're picked randomly by apple, you will need email student ID and bla bla info according from what I search around before I buy mbp 13", I'm using edu store also). DHL shipped it to you but not apple, so they won't want u to verify anything but your signature only. (After I check out only noticed the Billing address stated as my previous company name coz i bought iPad last 2 years, so far still no any verification request from Apple)

I guess the verification is needed (if you have picked randomly) before you checkout.

Anyway, I am going to run virtual machine too (a Windows 7 for web development debugging and testing), do you think 2x4GB is enough for me? you have any idea how much a 2x8GB rams (DDR3 1600Mhz?) will costs? Any brand and model recommend?

Appreciate if any sifu here can list down the model & price for 2x4GB or 2x8GB here so I can look for it to find a pair of affordable 1.

Thanks in advance!!

There are Apple-specific RAM sold by APRs but I use non-Apple-recommended ones on my Mac Mini and it has worked fine since.

I'm sad I couldn't understand that last question of yours.

For VM there is no choice other than maxing out the RAM. VM eats RAM for breakfast.

As for RAM choices, you have Apple-recommended ones, or non-Apple-recommended ones. I'm using Kingston non-apple-recommended ones, which I can't remember what they are already, since the purchase is more than half a year already. Works fine and dandy.

anyway, I have a stupid question hand. I've bought a magic trackpad for mbp but I'm not sure what is the position for my arm is the best. lolz.

I felt my hand super tired everyday, thinking to get another BT mouse + Magic trackpad for mbp. I've tried Magic Mouse in reseller store but too sad, I don't think that is nice (my hand is fat and can't control it well)

Any BT mouse recommend as well? or tricks to use magic trackpad? lol

I'm using Vertex 3 with Sandforce controller. Bought through Amazon for USD500. Some don't like the Vertex SSD as there have been instances of SSD failure, but it had worked fine for me since Day 1, that is more than 6 months ago. It's already Vertex 4 SSD with even faster speed.

Some swore by the OWC SSD, but these are harder to get, they're an American brand. If you want reliability but at a slightly diminished performance/speed, the Intel SSDs are always recommended.

Vertex 3 I bought comes with the HDD caddy for usage in desktops, but in laptops the space occupied is the same as normal HDD. The connectors are the same as well IIANM. My RAM on my Mac Mini is 2x4GB, non-Apple-recommended. Works fine.

Here's another truth. PC's are cheap, because the so called components that makes them are cheap. Because we are comparing laptop prices here right?

Lets look at the king of cheap, Acer, a comparable spec RM1899 HD3000 Core i5 to the low end 13" Pro.

Body? Plastic all the way.

Keyboard? A light press is enough to wobble the center keyboard area.

Touchpad? Don't make me laugh.

Screen?

Crapware?

You want to use cheap, go and use cheap. Be cheap. But the thing is people who buys mac don't go into laptop forums and troll and say your system is cheap. That only applies to cheap laptop buyers seeking to make themselves feel good by trolling Apple forums and saying that macs are overpriced. We pay the prices for a mac for a multitude of reasons, end of the day because macs are worth it.

Chill bro, many people in the market like to compare orange with apple, when they only tried orange but haven't try apple. This only show his personality. When they not willing to learn and accept new knowledges but instead keep bashing for their own good feeling haha.

Ps. No offence I am a 12 years windows user who jump to mac and dual booting now since 4 years ago. Except gaming I find no advantage in productivity on windows over OSX.

Nah. Just re-trolling a troll.

Honestly speaking, there are some features from Windows 7 that I do wish Mac OS X have, Aero Snap comes to mind. But as many of us using more than one system at work or at home, you do learn to live with it and use workarounds to adapt.

Although I do wonder why most here prefer to get their unit by ordering online?

i am window user for more then 10 years too, now wana learn and try mac OS, i wont say which is better because both OS are awsome ! seriously when we know what we pay for, it wont be "expensive" because when we break down every parts and material and understand how is the mbp engineered, it is worth for any penny you spend.
so suggest those who like to say overprice on mac, please do some research first smile.gif btw, if current over price laptop, i only can think of allienware. lol

is this seriously how the users and owners of a product which is supposed to cater professionals and intellectuals react to a simple statement (apple products are overpriced) when it could have easily been overlooked?

way to bring irony to the above mentioned monikers.

1. others would be able to elaborate more as when I got my mbp using my student id, it was at the campus store. but afaik the student id check for online purchases are random.

2. I could confirm machine outlets in midvalley and klcc has the display units. a forumer mentioned about all machines outlets having them. perhaps they could confirm it.

All Machines stores in KL and Klang Valley has demo on display.

Was at EpiCenter just now. Their stock levels are in danger of making the store looks like it's closing shop, very sparse and not much choices in terms of accessories. Not everything is about iPhones and iPads. Their MacBook accessories and selections just wanna make you cry only.

Anybody found any "envelope" style sleeves? I have a 13" MBA sleeve that is styled after Steve Job's unveiling of the first MBA, but it won't fit the new MBP RD.

if you dont mind handmade products, (which might have some qc issues at times) have you given etsy a look? found myself a moleskin styled phone cover there recently. an envelope styled sleeve should be easily replicable.

I'd prefer a more reliable entity than handmade ones. For an envelope sleeve to rip at the seams when I'm handling it and causes the MBP to slip out and crash to the floor, not something I'd like to see. I don't mind Etsy for things like decals, etc.

Retina Display MacBook Pro can run THREE external displays simultaneously.

Just in case you run out of space of on that Retina screen. wink.gif

QUOTE

user posted image

Other World Computing posted this picture on their blog showing a MacBook Pro with Retina Display hooked up to a pair of iMacs serving as Thunderbolt displays and a third monitor via HDMI. This setup powers four screens with a total of 15,680,000 pixels.

The writer of the post, OWC Mike, seemed impressed with the performance of the MacBook Pro:
- "Moving images and media didn’t create any lag and we were able to play video on all four displays simultaneously."

Apple officially supports hooking three monitors into the Retina MacBook Pro, noting in the Thunderbolt ports FAQ in its Support Knowledge Base:
- "MacBook Pro (Retina, Mid 2012) can support an HDMI-compatible device on its HDMI port while also using two Thunderbolt displays."

This makes the Retina MacBook Pro the first Mac -- other than a tower-based workstation like the Mac Pro -- to natively power four displays simultaneously.

Trollbaits and trolling posts reported. Outta my hands and into the hands of the mods. Let's not feed and fatten up the trolls. Don't have to stoop down to their level. Lots of bitterness and hatred on that turf.

*
The Pavillion one, yes, looks sparse, probably because of all the spaces. Not my favorite place to go to sort of "kick the tyre", since every time I have done so some Sales Exec crowds my personal space like I'm going to pull the security tag on it and run with it.

MacStudio Lowyat, In front of Lowyat and at Times Square all go no stock, no display unit.

Which is why I prefer machines. I could do anything, bar maybe trying to do a drop test and no Sales Exec is going to kacau me until and unless I call them out to ask questions.

I followed that discussion. The cost apparently is about 50 pounds, before the mods intervened when the discussion turns to piracy.

Hi all,
just got my MBP 13" 2012 (3,699 model) last week, with a dual core i5 with 4G ram, performance wise definitely slower than my previous Dell inspiron quad-core i7 with 8GB, but think it's ok for me and still acceptable (dual core VS quad core maybe?)

*
I do not understand why people can have 20-30 tabs at one go.
Close the tab when you are not needing it.
For you to read later, use Readability or Instapaper.
Don't keep it open. sweat.gif

Hi guys, any recommendations for a good laptop bag for Macbook Pro?

Thanks

Get a cheap quality one!
I'm not joking. As the bag looks bad, thief got no mood to steal.
I'm using MBP 15' for the third year now.
Always hide in a cheapo and beaten up bag.

I wasn't trolling. Just stating the truth. Macs are overpriced. *shrug*

People who buy Macs expect to pay a premium. Just like people who buy BMWs. Have you heard a BMW owner state that his car isn't 'overpriced' when compared to an equivalent Toyota?
*
Now this sounds better.
I can see that you are using MBA 13' as well.
Welcome to the club!

i am window user for more then 10 years too, now wana learn and try mac OS, i wont say which is better because both OS are awsome ! seriously when we know what we pay for, it wont be "expensive" because when we break down every parts and material and understand how is the mbp engineered, it is worth for any penny you spend.
so suggest those who like to say overprice on mac, please do some research first smile.gif btw, if current over price laptop, i only can think of allienware. lol
*
Ever since I learnt Mac OSX Snow Leapord, I been spending more time on OSX than windows. For my RMBP now, I don't even have windows installed.
I can work faster with Aperture, iWork, and iMovie.
I used MS office few days ago. I felt like I'm on another planet.
No offense, but this is a hard truth.

Those seems to be Corsair ram modules. You should be fine with those. Mushkin also works well.

Thanks. One of the forumer here told me Pavilion has Crumplers...I will definitely check it out.

Thanks

Btw, just asking some opinion here.

Will you get the base MBP RD with 256GB SSD and buy external harddisk for more storage in the future.........or buy the higher end MBP RD with 512GB SSD?
hmm.gif

Once decided on the lower end MBP RD, cannot change the harddisk in the future... sweat.gif

But it cost about RM1900 more to get the higher end MBP RD shocking.gif

Even buying a 1TB Time Capsule cost about RM999, right?

Working professionals usually keep their work related documents on external hard drives. Get the 256GB choice unless you have the dough.

Going to USB3, you get around 80-110MB/s transfer speed, depending on the rotational speed of your external hard drive platter. I get 80MB/s on my 1.5TB Seagate GoFlex USB3 5400rpm external hard drive. I toyed with the idea of getting the Thunderbolt adapter for this drive, but the bottleneck is the 5400rpm HDD itself.

Testing this with a 240GB SSD Thunderbolt LaCie drive I borrowed from a friend, I get around 400MB/s transfer. The best would be from my Pegasus R4, around 550-600MB/s but this unit isn't portable. The WD Thunderbolt Duo 6TB I have clocks in at 160-180MB/s.

As long as upgrades are being talked about, anyone here ever come across DDR3 1600 RAM at Lowyat?

Yes, I have seen a smattering of desktop RAMS. Wonder if the speed will force some type of heatsink on the macs.

Anyone with RMBP noticed the speaker has been improved A HELL LOT?

I would prefer my MBP than my z680 in terms of music listening now.

QUOTE
The 15in MacBook Pros sport speakers with a subwoofer underneath a set of grilles on either side of the keyboard and they’re not bad at all; I did not perceive much deficiency in the bass and the sound is rather loud at maximum volume, with little distortion or feedback. They’re not high-end speakers, but they’re better than most computer speakers I’ve heard.

Yes it will definitely looks blurry and pixellated on the RMBP because the OS is trying to scale them up according to your resolution, so the apps will look bad.

Therefore, i'm gonna sit this one out until most of the mac apps have been retina ready, only time will tell when will that be.

This is Retina Display MBP running 3 external monitors, and running Mountain Lion Developer Preview. Notice there are no lag whatsoever. Also, the Safari lag has even been eliminated on Mountain Lion.

Mountain Lion is coming next month, free for all new Mac purchases.

Another example of how densely packed the pixels on this Retina Display is.

Warning: Image size is 11MB. This is a screenshot of my desktop at 2880x1800 using "Change Resolution" app.

Pixellated image on the Macbook Pro Retina on Photoshop App.

Of course the wallpapers are scaled to 2880 x 1800 and it clearly is beautiful but most apps have not yet scaled up or updated. I'll accept this technology when everything is ready, but in the mean time, it looks like everything is prematurely readied rolleyes.gif

I'll have to concede that moving between "Best for Retina" resolution settings on the Display Preferences and the 4 other scaled resolution options will introduce noticeable lag in scrolling high res thumbnails in iPhoto or Safari in Retina. Apple did put a mention before changing to scaled resolution that it'll affect performance. *Restarting the MBP RD at the same resolution, mitigates it somewhat*. Mountain Lion should put this issue to rest.

But they were right that 1920x1200 on scaled resolution is the highest workable resolution that is comfortable doing your work on. Any higher, using the "Change Resolution" app, will result in having to squint to look. I have 20/20 vision (work demands it), can see fine, but it's not fun having to squint all the time to see 2880x1800 icons on a busy wallpaper. tongue.gif

"Best for Retina" is 2880x1800 sampled at 1440x900, so everything looks super sharp. For bigger workspace desktop, 1920x1200 is best. Or connect 3 external displays. tongue.gif

Well, its being released on the 25th (3 days to go), so it might take a while to get to our shores. Apple resellers should be stocking it, if not try the usual spot, Low Yat Plaza.

Mr. Stringfellow, still remember me man? how is everything?

We used to challenge each other on xbox live back in 06? I actually just got myself the 2012 11" air i7/2.0/8GB/256. Pretty happy with my purchase since i have upgraded from my core duo black book.
*
Yup, I remembered you. I don't game a lot these days, everybody seems to be clanning up and I'm not into groupies. tongue.gif I'm a "come in, shoot a few heads, get out" kinda guy.

Congratulations on your purchase. I spec-ed up your config, it's pretty much how much I paid for my Ultimate 11" 2011 MBA. You got a pretty good deal there. I spec-ed up 2012's Ultimate 11" MBA at the Store, and costs more than a base-spec Retina Display! sweat.gif

I have a soft spot for MBA, I've been using it since its first appearance. Yes, the first version that constantly overheats cos the vents at the back aren't properly positioned. tongue.gif

how long is the said delay?

1-2 bounces of the icon on an ssd is fine.
