lol, to breath correctly, just rotate ur head 90 degree with moving ur shoulder. eg. rotate to right without moving ur shoulder to breath. ur head doesn't go up therefore ur leg won't go down. once ur head lifted from water, ur leg started to drop and dragging u swim smoothly..

you can buy it in sun paradise. i would recommend View, or Arena. i usually use RM50-60 View goggles. since you're new in swimming, i would suggest you start frm cheaper price. the expensive goggles are for competition and you wont feel comfortable if you wear it for the first time.

do you need good goggles or you just need one that you can 'depend on'? you can just buy it in jusco bukit raja for cheap ones. KEC also selling.. normally if you go for swimming, the place got stalls that sells goggles and other stuff.
there's one speedo shop in empire gallery.

the usual ones would be kick twice (dolphin kicks), do a wave-like body motion, then move your hands like you're shaping a round lantern or the first curve or a woman's body. after completing one round, push your hand downwards to push your body up. then breathe. (lol.. it's kinda hard to explain in words.) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hLn218BD-lQ

the hint would be the wave-like/snake-like body motion.

sometimes you dont have to breathe once every stroke, you can do two strokes and breathe at once.

lol, this video I saw plenty times liao. kicking I think is fine, as I kick twice, strong first kick and 2nd tiny kick for the purpose to come out and breath. for the arm side, what's the purpose to push the water? I do forming a woman body curve but when doing this the arm is not stretch and hardly push to move forward. if I stretch my arm and straight push behind, then my hand would be tiring and become weaker and weaker after each stroke.

for breathing part, exhale part seem incorrect as when my head surface I still haven't completely exhale and this cause me have no time to inhale before head go back into water..

want fit body ar sweat.gif I think swimming quite hard to achieve that. even Michael Phelps his body shape also not very muscular 1. it'll stop growing at certain limit and u need to carry dumbbell or any weight lifting workout to grow ur muscle. the resistance u face at water is same, weight training u can increase the resistance by put on the weight of dumbbell or equipment..

you don't need too muscular to be good athletically, when you are too bulky you will hinder away from performances

btw you don't have to swim like him haha, can also slit in time to do weight training in between.

sad royal sporting house stop carrying speedo, they usually have discount during mega sales, speedo outlet itself almost never have promotional on going at all

it's like that. swimming butterfly is tiring. at first, you find it hard to bring up your arms. but once your get used to it, and get used to the flow of the body, you can bring up both your arms and you find that it's not as hard. do more push ups to strengthen your arm muscle. oh yeah. a flyer ( good in butterfly stroke) usually have big and nice arms broader shoulder.
when you almost finish forming woman's body curve, push down your hands and lift up your forearm ( in line with your shoulder) and then only spread out your lower arm and join your hand together.

your hands must be strong enough to be able to push the water so that you lift your (upper) body higher.

Hi, Everyone
I'm 17 and i still do not know how to swim yet.
Since there is no swimming pool around the place where i stay.
I am looking for any Swimming buddy or instructor around Who can teach me how to swim >.< or maybe recommend me a place to go.
It can be anywhere in Malaysia. (In KL or PJ maybe better la)
Hoping to work around a resort or something and in exchange for free food, accomodation and free swimming lesson
Or if anyone have a apartment around KL/PJ with a nearby pool.
Maybe an offer stay of a week or 2 and i'll help around with taking care of your place etc..

Looking for intensive swimming lesson for like....everyday.

Any advice would be highly appreciated =DDD

the width of the swimming pool is usually 25m.
the length, 50 m.

for olympic size.

think there's no standard width. 3k inn is 6 lane so i suppose is 10m. but chin woo pool's width seems longer.

yesterday i swam at 3k inn. think every monday there'll divide 1/3 of pool reserve for some kid's training session. those kids really swim very good neh, know all the stroke.

my leg tend to cramp if kick too hard.. eg. when wanna do front crawl sprint..

Added on June 2, 2012, 1:24 ambeen swimming on yesterday (Friday) at bukit jalil national aquatic centre v sen. inb4 swam at 3k inn 50m pool, this time bukit jalil swim have the feeling of the pool length seem to be longer than 50m coz my front crawl stroke feel like tired and never ending before reach the other end, lol. after check the internet it was 50m pool at 8 lane, strange.

again, I cramp my right leg when I do front crawl sprint. right leg suddenly feel the excruciating pain when I sprint for about 25 metre..

once you go swedish, you'll never turn back. It is like the cheapest and most comfortable goggle ever. It also has the widest visibility because the eye cup is not covered with bulky rubbers. Many of the competitive swimmers use it AFAIK.

The strap on mine is getting loose and I need to find a replacement soon. A pair costed me around €2 only, which is less than RM10.

ic, think hardly get le as I never saw this also. inside Speedo outlet definitely don't have. but then some Speedo goggle, that series of goggle do have parts can buy. even got parts, those parts also not cheap. parts like those strap, the fixture thingy at nose to tie left and right goggle glasses, 1 side of glass, etc.

My cousin gave me her extra access card in exchange for occasional treats at buffets and movies of her choice. rclxms.gif The pool is on the 15th floor. Could meet up on the 15th floor or Papa John's on the ground floor. I will flash you in. When you leave you will not need the access card. Mornings before 9:30am are best for me, but I don't mind swimming in the evenings either as long as I have a swimming buddy to keep me motivated to do a few extra laps. I think the pool timings are 6am-1Opm daily. I contacted Times Square 0321178000 and was told that the pool is 740 sq feet and 4 meters deep. Still cannot figure out the length in meters but it certainly does look lenghty. So anyone keen for swim soon ? nod.gif

Added on June 8, 2012, 8:44 amtimes square pool is great i would say, though the shape it not entirely square like the other olympic swimming pool does, however it still a square size pool partially. so u still can swim from end to end for a length seems to be more than 50m laugh.gif it's quite lengthy from end to end compare to the other pool we used to swim.

the reason is because u're creating unnecessary resistance that dragging u from gliding smoothly.. makesure ur bodyline as horizontal as possible.. one of the reason u need to kick harder i believe is because of ur head and shoulder lifted up too much therefore ur leg drop and thus more resistance as u can't glide smoothly.. try don't lifted up ur shoulder, breath by rotate ur head 90 degree from facing down to facing side only..

These sites might be a good start:

Most of these aren't sold locally would have to order online. I personally like the 25c addition method.

breaststroke slow are normal coz,

Freestyle (front crawl) > Butterfly Stroke > Backstroke > Breaststroke. anyway ur breaststroke slow could be due to various reason also. ur technique / body position create more drag / resistance perhaps..

today i'm not swimming le.. perhaps this weekend..

swimming in times square? 25m pool? 1.2m seems shallow..

I am resuming my class again next month with a new operator.. Yesterday I went there they ask me swim myself only.. shit le.. 2 weeks ago i swim 2000m felt quite relax.. yesterday I need to rest on every 50m..

The day before also like that.. after 50m already puffing gasping for air.. Still feel very weak after water entry and cannot feel the water while pulling..

what class is that?

when stop swim a while ur body tend to lazy, thus weak. need build up again lo.

breathing part was 1 of the difficult part to me. sometimes i stop at the middle not because of cannot crawl/stroke anymore, but breathing was insufficient.. fuhhh..

anyway, u can use ur snookering goggle swim temporary 1 ma to sprint..

ya use snorkel.. but cant keep my head straight lol.. the tube was moving here and there (mine is a swimming snorkel (at the center) u can feel the tube is waving left and right.

I think the reason why out of breath is because I am trying to do bi-literal breathing.. my LHS breathing still sucks

practising.. offcourse can do 100m with 3breaths.. but then after that will be very exhausted, my left side breathing is cacat (too low) my right side breathing is turn too high
i also did this set before 3 - 5 - 7 - 7 - 5 - 3 breath set
I call it the dying sensation sets that during the 7 pull 1 breath stage, it feels that u lungs is ripping apart yet u need to control urself not to use too much energy..

i read that the correct breathing is that one of ur goggle in water, and with your forward movement your head will push a ripple (hole of pockets water) that allows you to breath just nice

you hear this question in Musician - learning instrument, swimming - , singing..

It's true it's good to start early if you want to be competitive, heck i even heard of stories a 58y.o lady pick up swimming and completed her ironman.!

it's all in your mind but please don't feel sad if you cant compete with those swimmers that have been training since young, imagine how much head start mileage they had before you even started swimming

i think what he mean is when doing front crawl, rotate ur head 90 degree to left or right when breath. 90 degree as in u only expose 1 side of google out of water surface when u rotate to breath. not the touch turn breath. practic more touch turn la..

yesterday i try this when swim butterfly, head don't look up instead slightly below from horizontal angle, chin as close as possible to water surface during recovery, can glide damn smoothly in the water.

Hello guys! glad to see this thread is up actively up till today.

Let me intro my self. I'm a newbie with 0 swimming ability. First came contact with swimming yesterday when I went for outing at a waterfall. Its embarrasing to tell that I couldn't swim so i missed alot of fun. Still i get a chance to try swim in the shallow area. though exhausting, but its quite benificial coz i fell my whole body aching after swmming which is a good thing proving that the muscle are working. I've never felt so many muscle worked out this hard with other sports i indulge in e.g. badminton and wall climbing. So i decided to take up swmming starting tomorrow.

I'll be going to the Kelana Jaya Municipal Swimming pool tomorrow morning at 9am to try out the pool there. Anyone been there before? Isit okey if i go alone with no basic in swimming? and lastly anyone knows where to sign up for proper swimming classes near Subang Skypark Airport area? i live near by here. Any additional advise is greatly appreciated. Many thanks in advance!!

elo.. if starting u swim alone, it would be very discouraging as u would feel helpless that no one around u correct ur stroke and help u improve.. however if u really got interest to learn, u may watch some youtube clip that give u some useful hint or drill, and u put it into practice..

after i learn breaststroke teach by my friend, then i swim alone. freestyle and butterfly stroke was learn after observe plenty of youtube video and trial and error at the pool for like daily.. 5 to 6 days a week.. until now my technique still incorrect but better compared to the past..

just now 8pm til 9 pm i went for a swim in kelana jaya pool. swimming at night is coozy much more relaxing than morning minus the aweful tan from the stupid sunlight.

today i accidently scrubed off the anti fog coating in my gogle. went back to the shop and they suggest me buying the antifog treatment liquid to be applied on the the inside lens. i tried it but still got fog. maybe my method of application is wrong, any sifu here familiar with this problem?

also i'm looking for a swimming buddy. swimming alone is boring for me. i just started learning swimming 4 days ago. now can swimming breaststroke for a short distance b4 exhaustion. say, half a pool. anyone near subang airport area wanna find a swimming buddy can pm me and we can discuss the detail.

abt me : 22 yo working male. age of swimming 5 days as of this post. 100% straight guy( no hanky panky from LBGT pls i''m not discriminating, you can b your self just dont kacau me pls) i'm just saying....

what kind of anti-fog liquid is that? spray 1? or like a marker pen 1? spray 1 usually won't work well, don't waste money on that. apply some cream like toothpaste then rinse water will do mang.. or use ur saliva also can. most economical..

there are 2 pools here. weekdays only open 1 side while weekends when alot ppl will open both. locker is provided but just a small locker but alot. gotta bring 3x20sens(old heavy one) to use them. water is clean most of the time very clear. the depth will start from 1.5 til the mid will b 2 m den shallow back to 1.5. its suitable for both newbie and pros.

interested? this week i dont have time to swim. you can join me on 16th onward for morning 9am swim. there are some uncle there willing to teach newbie. i learn from them for 5 days and can do breast stroke d ^^

lol, bro seek advice here b4 purchase anything. RM30+ a lot mang.. toothpaste work fine for temporary anti-fog effect. apply it, rinse the water then there'll be no fog throughout the entire swimming session. fog came easily if the pool temperature is low.

i have just taken some basic lesson and can now swim breaststroke
trainer was not so pro perhaps a fast buck type

the problem is i can swim the shallow side...still cannot swim at deep ends.... perhaps afraid.

cannot float at deep ends as well

any idea how to learn this or will i be able to improve/swim at deep ends after being a good swimmer(breaststroke) by improving the stamina first?

to improve stamina u need to push urself swim continuously without stop even a second. learn touch turn so that u can continue to swim when reach the other end..

if u can swim breaststroke then shouldn't be a problem to swim at deep side. unless u stop very frequently for breath / rest then definitely u need float. else u don't need float also can swim at deep side..

yea, agree with timetraveller.

to improve stamina, have to push urself swim more and more. I push myself to swim 2km as a standard.

If i have more time, i swim 3km tongue.gif

Love swimming smile.gif

One of my friend who is doing the best among our PD triathlon did 23mins for 1.5k open water swim. He never swim long, only 30minutes workout longest.

He swam interval mostly, eg: set 60 sec / 50m and go everytime ur clock ticks at 60 sec.

I think i would prefer more like a relaxed swim training, come out from the water fresh after 2000m swim.. thinking to drop my swimming class, too much sprinting involved

Dun set a limit for yourselves, try to swim more and more non stop.

I self learning swimming previously also, starting only able to swim few laps. Slowly adapt swim 10laps non stop before take a rest, than 20 , 30 , 40.

Now normally i swim 80laps non stop, try before 120laps but it takes longer time which the club pool will close. So i normally will swim 80 laps, after that will play with dolphin kick swim around.

A swim in the morning is really a good start of the days.
I used to do that on every Saturday morning in the past few years.
But, TS is kinda far and the water is not very clean.

Lately the water is cleaner, especially in the mornings as that is when they do cleaning and clearing of pool debris smile.gif

TQ.
B4 this, I met Timetraveller & Senyii for a swim at evening time at TS.
TS's pool shld be cleaner in the morning.
I think it's dirty because the residents and hotel customers don't wear proper swimming attires.
This is really disgusting.

Of course, I'm keen to swim.
But, I still prefer Bkt Jalil over TS....hahahah....
Anyway, I can join you guys for a swim once in a while.

I seldom check this forum.
And I always go swimming randomly and when I'm free.
There is no particular time for it.
So, I'm afraid that PM doesn't work it out.

Howdy, new here btw!

So guys, have you been to Kelana Jaya Municipal Pool? How will you rate it, compared to 3K Sports Complex pool for those who'd been to both locations?

So far I was told that the former is an Open pool, while the latter is an indoor one.

Haven't had time to check out any of them due to time constraint and other activities (and I just barely learned swimming at a school for a year). Now I am more comfortable to go by my own (of course, would be nicer there are kakis). So I'd like to set a day each week and pick one of these two. I live in Klang btw. The first one is easier to access for me but if the latter turns out better, I may as well go there (I am never fond of Open pool from the experience at Sunway Lagoon... Peeps just drop in water with their T-shirts on, blah blah you know).

Please kindly provide an opinion.

Thank you. Have a good day.

Yes, underwater camera is a good way to improve the stroke.
I hv one, but never use it to tape it myself.
I'm just too lazy to do this.
What I hv been doing is watch youtube and practice the stroke.
Use my skin and body to feel the flow of the water.
And if I can swim farther with less energy, then I will assume it's the correct stroke.

Unless you have really good sense of self body movement concious, it is going to be difficult.
I know I always have body coordination problem.

I also know after 400m my stroke would change and I would have to exert slightly more energy to maintain my pace.
Easy or not, I will do on 2:20~2:30 / 100m for any distance I am doing.. Hvn't tried beyond 2000m tho..

All great swimmers hv a good sense of the flow of water over their bodies in the water.
A lot of beginners hv a misunderstand of swimming.
They always think that swimming is abt using almost all their energy to crawl forward by imitating those swimmers after seeing them in the competitions. Instead of performing all the steps of the stroke slowly, they do it too fast.
Worse thing is they might injure themselves coz of wrong stroke.
So, it's better to perform all the steps of a stroke correctly and slowly to get a sense of the water.
Going slowly will allow the swimmers to feel the water and think abt his strokes.
Aft mastering the right stroke, one can go for sprint.

I also heard contradict comments on this, I am not sure on this.
To swim fast, swim faster... Technique will need to accompany with endurance..

Anyway I am varying different swim style each session to see how it feels to my body, I do short breakdown like 2x100 or 3x100 mostly because I want recovery so that I can concentrate on my water entry and recovery more..

Oc, endurance is important in swimming, especially in competition.
But, one must get the right stroke on top of all this.

when you kick, try to put your head down, check if your knee is bending? (a little is ok to support downwards motion), is your hip sinking? are you kick high enuff to create a little wave?

I mean look back with your head down (blow bubble to avoid water entering your nose)

On a side note i just realise the website sells ozonise technology, offcourse they will condemn chlorine pool.. Bukit Jalil pool is using ozonisation filterisation, they still add in chlorine tho, lesser maybe.. at least my skin doesn't feels that dry swimming there

It's not necessary to hv consistent left and right breathing when you're in competition.
The reason why the coaches encourage swimmers to breath left and right side is to make the swimmers hv a better sense of its body position and hand strokes in the water.
All swimmers will get used to breath one side better than the other, but good swimmers hv at least not so much different in either side breathing skill.

And it's very wrong to drop your elbow after your hands enter the water.
To swim more efficiently, swimmers like to maintain the high elbow positions.
A lot of ppl mistaken that high elbow position is maintained during the recovery.
But, it's not very true.
High elbow position should be kept in the water too.
If you go to Youtube watch those olympic swimmers' video, you're going to notice that their hands are almost perpendicular to their bodies.
This explains why the swimmers hv big latissimus muscle.
Freestyle and butterfly use a lot of energy from this muscle.

Thank you for your explanation, i watched a lot of youtube video, sometimes explanation does need to complement with a lot of self exploring also.. I think high elbow simply means palm below elbow all the time..

It's actually quite hard to maintain the perpendicular with body, you need a very flexible shoulder..

I have problem of consistency.. sometimes can catch better sometimes now.. Trying to counter this by swimming a lot times in a week, do drills before swim. break down swim into shorter distance and emphasize on strokes..

My bilateral improved a lot, i can do it non stop now, just cant do in when I sprint tho, will run out of breath after 50m..

When the hands enter into the water, the shoulder should reach out and extend it for a distance.
It should stays almost parallel to the surface of the water to some distance.
During the drag and pull, the hands and elbows should notl be straight all the way.
A more correct stroke would be bending your elbows in the phase.
Let the elbows always higher than your forearms and make your forearms almost perpendicular to the surface of the water.
Look at this youtube link.

ya, 1 eye in the water, 1 eye outside the water while breath at side..just rotate, not lift ur head. u lift ur head, ur butt go down, not good.. not in bodyline..

when swim front craw, the elbow maintain as high as possible close to the water while pull & push?

Btw, I have forgotten to tell you that there was a mistake about the fingers in the water we have discussed the other day.
A correct style of the palms to swim more efficiently is to spread the fingers a little bit (abt 20 to 40% of the diameter size of the fingers).

If power goggles, I've only seen TYR brand (if I am not mistaken). You have to purchase both sides separately and attach together (because people generally have different power for both eyes).

Price is generally expensive for power goggles, above RM40.

Ogival brand also have power goggles (cheapest brand) but water always enter into the goggles. If you tighten it to the max, it gets slightly better but will be painful. It is also sold in pair (for both eyes).

the best goggle is speedo no doubt. RM69 buck each. i use ogival b4, but ogival seem not fully water tightness. got water seep in when i use that, maybe my face size not suit but i use speedo it was fine.. so far speedo serve me well for years.. ogival sold at abt 43 bucks.. tabata or view brand is abt RM50+, never use that b4.. TYR is the cheapest 1 i think, never use that b4 also..

First at the middle toward the most left hand side which near the blocked out are for swimming class, then suddenly so many fast swimmer, i move to the most right lane since that lane no much serious swimmer. I only swim half pool, too deep I cannot tread. I swam from 8 till 9pm only.

You would require an access card to swim which we have nod.gif Usually we meet at an appointed time say between 7pm 0r 8pm and go in together. When you leave you do not need an access card.

quite far. though u can reach bukit jalir by lrt but then walk to aquatic centre also quite far also. no drive? after swim and shower should relax at air-cond while driving back ma. sweat sweat walk to lrt meh. and bukit jalir pool open got schedule de so u need to go according to the schedule. they open 3 hour each session.

but then if u went bukit jalir, u might bump into her laugh.gif

The only pool that is easily accessible by public transport is PJ Palm, which is just less than 5 mins walk from Taman Jaya LRT station. And you can do lap swim as this pool lesser people. Two things, night session is RM 8 per entry, locker at rent on RM 1, the other end of pool is 4 meters deep.

If its not because of the entry fees is so expensive, I would have swim in this pool often. I thinks i will back to Kelana Jaya pool this week, cause its just been renovated, more private shower area and clean toilet.

Parking, park on the side of the road la, night no need to pay ma, weekend also no need to pay, but if not car park outside the PJ palm sport club, can make a round turn to park at top where all the makamah(court), JPJ of MPPJ located la. DONT park just outside the club which is in vertical, those cost RM 5, just park right beside the road (got yellow square box one) opposite the club. Worst come to worst, you can also park in A&W, also free one, but need to walk a bit la.

If you lay on your back or does handstand, the water will go in since air bubble tend to escape from nose.

I havent swim for a long time, thinking of swimming back, being a person wearing spec since kids and dislike wearing contact lens,

Is it possible to get swiming googles with power of 650 each eyes?

i'm using 500 on each eyes.. if u want to get the whole goggle get the lower power from both eyes, since we don't really need perfect vision in the water.. and overpower lens is bad for the eye.. cause when in the water it magnify things too.. so just lower than your actual power is fine...

however if the diff is too much like 200/500.. you might want to consider assemble one out of each.. i'm using View.. the price of assemble one and whole set is not much different...
