QUOTE(Vcys86 @ May 21 2012, 08:18 AM) lol, to breath correctly, just rotate ur head 90 degree with moving ur shoulder. eg. rotate to right without moving ur shoulder to breath. ur head doesn't go up therefore ur leg won't go down. once ur head lifted from water, ur leg started to drop and dragging u swim smoothly.. |

I breath every stroke the usual ones would be kick twice (dolphin kicks), do a wave-like body motion, then move your hands like you're shaping a round lantern or the first curve or a woman's body. after completing one round, push your hand downwards to push your body up. then breathe. (lol.. it's kinda hard to explain in words.) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hLn218BD-lQthe hint would be the wave-like/snake-like body motion. sometimes you dont have to breathe once every stroke, you can do two strokes and breathe at once. (lol.. it's kinda hard to explain in words.) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hLn218BD-lQ lol, this video I saw plenty times liao. kicking I think is fine, as I kick twice, strong first kick and 2nd tiny kick for the purpose to come out and breath. for the arm side, what's the purpose to push the water? I do forming a woman body curve but when doing this the arm is not stretch and hardly push to move forward. if I stretch my arm and straight push behind, then my hand would be tiring and become weaker and weaker after each stroke.the hint would be the wave-like/snake-like body motion. sometimes you dont have to breathe once every stroke, you can do two strokes and breathe at once. for breathing part, exhale part seem incorrect as when my head surface I still haven't completely exhale and this cause me have no time to inhale before head go back into water.. |

Hello guys! glad to see this thread is up actively up till today.
Let me intro my self. I'm a newbie with 0 swimming ability. First came contact with swimming yesterday when I went for outing at a waterfall. Its embarrasing to tell that I couldn't swim so i missed alot of fun. Still i get a chance to try swim in the shallow area. though exhausting, but its quite benificial coz i fell my whole body aching after swmming which is a good thing proving that the muscle are working. I've never felt so many muscle worked out this hard with other sports i indulge in e.g. badminton and wall climbing. So i decided to take up swmming starting tomorrow. I'll be going to the Kelana Jaya Municipal Swimming pool tomorrow morning at 9am to try out the pool there. Anyone been there before? Isit okey if i go alone with no basic in swimming? and lastly anyone knows where to sign up for proper swimming classes near Subang Skypark Airport area? i live near by here. Any additional advise is greatly appreciated. Many thanks in advance!! |

just now 8pm til 9 pm i went for a swim in kelana jaya pool. swimming at night is coozy much more relaxing than morning minus the aweful tan from the stupid sunlight.
today i accidently scrubed off the anti fog coating in my gogle. went back to the shop and they suggest me buying the antifog treatment liquid to be applied on the the inside lens. i tried it but still got fog. maybe my method of application is wrong, any sifu here familiar with this problem? also i'm looking for a swimming buddy. swimming alone is boring for me. i just started learning swimming 4 days ago. now can swimming breaststroke for a short distance b4 exhaustion. say, half a pool. anyone near subang airport area wanna find a swimming buddy can pm me and we can discuss the detail. abt me : 22 yo working male. age of swimming 5 days as of this post. 100% straight guy( no hanky panky from LBGT pls i''m not discriminating, you can b your self just dont kacau me pls) i'm just saying.... |

i have just taken some basic lesson and can now swim breaststroke
trainer was not so pro perhaps a fast buck type the problem is i can swim the shallow side...still cannot swim at deep ends.... perhaps afraid. cannot float at deep ends as well any idea how to learn this or will i be able to improve/swim at deep ends after being a good swimmer(breaststroke) by improving the stamina first? |

to improve stamina, have to push urself swim more and more. I push myself to swim 2km as a standard. If i have more time, i swim 3km Love swimming |

One of my friend who is doing the best among our PD triathlon did 23mins for 1.5k open water swim. He never swim long, only 30minutes workout longest.
He swam interval mostly, eg: set 60 sec / 50m and go everytime ur clock ticks at 60 sec. I think i would prefer more like a relaxed swim training, come out from the water fresh after 2000m swim.. thinking to drop my swimming class, too much sprinting involved |

Dun set a limit for yourselves, try to swim more and more non stop.
I self learning swimming previously also, starting only able to swim few laps. Slowly adapt swim 10laps non stop before take a rest, than 20 , 30 , 40. Now normally i swim 80laps non stop, try before 120laps but it takes longer time which the club pool will close. So i normally will swim 80 laps, after that will play with dolphin kick swim around. |

QUOTE(hawk123 @ Jul 30 2012, 12:24 PM) A swim in the morning is really a good start of the days. Howdy, new here btw!
So guys, have you been to Kelana Jaya Municipal Pool? How will you rate it, compared to 3K Sports Complex pool for those who'd been to both locations? So far I was told that the former is an Open pool, while the latter is an indoor one. Haven't had time to check out any of them due to time constraint and other activities (and I just barely learned swimming at a school for a year). Now I am more comfortable to go by my own (of course, would be nicer there are kakis). So I'd like to set a day each week and pick one of these two. I live in Klang btw. The first one is easier to access for me but if the latter turns out better, I may as well go there (I am never fond of Open pool from the experience at Sunway Lagoon... Peeps just drop in water with their T-shirts on, blah blah you know). Please kindly provide an opinion. Thank you. Have a good day. |

Hvn't tried beyond 2000m tho.. A lot of beginners hv a misunderstand of swimming. They always think that swimming is abt using almost all their energy to crawl forward by imitating those swimmers after seeing them in the competitions. Instead of performing all the steps of the stroke slowly, they do it too fast. Worse thing is they might injure themselves coz of wrong stroke. So, it's better to perform all the steps of a stroke correctly and slowly to get a sense of the water. Going slowly will allow the swimmers to feel the water and think abt his strokes. Aft mastering the right stroke, one can go for sprint. |

Anyway I am varying different swim style each session to see how it feels to my body, I do short breakdown like 2x100 or 3x100 mostly because I want recovery so that I can concentrate on my water entry and recovery more.. |

Technique will need to accompany with endurance.. Anyway I am varying different swim style each session to see how it feels to my body, I do short breakdown like 2x100 or 3x100 mostly because I want recovery so that I can concentrate on my water entry and recovery more.. But, one must get the right stroke on top of all this. |

And it's very wrong to drop your elbow after your hands enter the water. To swim more efficiently, swimmers like to maintain the high elbow positions. A lot of ppl mistaken that high elbow position is maintained during the recovery. But, it's not very true. High elbow position should be kept in the water too. If you go to Youtube watch those olympic swimmers' video, you're going to notice that their hands are almost perpendicular to their bodies. This explains why the swimmers hv big latissimus muscle. Freestyle and butterfly use a lot of energy from this muscle. |

QUOTE(hawk123 @ Sep 6 2012, 05:31 PM) It's not necessary to hv consistent left and right breathing when you're in competition. Thank you for your explanation, i watched a lot of youtube video, sometimes explanation does need to complement with a lot of self exploring also.. I think high elbow simply means palm below elbow all the time.. The reason why the coaches encourage swimmers to breath left and right side is to make the swimmers hv a better sense of its body position and hand strokes in the water. If you go to Youtube watch those olympic swimmers' video, you're going to notice that their hands are almost perpendicular to their bodies. This explains why the swimmers hv big latissimus muscle. Freestyle and butterfly use a lot of energy from this muscle. It's actually quite hard to maintain the perpendicular with body, you need a very flexible shoulder.. I have problem of consistency.. sometimes can catch better sometimes now.. Trying to counter this by swimming a lot times in a week, do drills before swim. break down swim into shorter distance and emphasize on strokes.. My bilateral improved a lot, i can do it non stop now, just cant do in when I sprint tho, will run out of breath after 50m.. QUOTE(PhakFuhZai @ Sep 6 2012, 09:28 PM) I just went 3 hrs ago.. |

QUOTE(timetravelller @ May 21 2012, 08:28 AM) lol, to breath correctly, just rotate ur head 90 degree with moving ur shoulder. eg. rotate to right without moving ur shoulder to breath. ur head doesn't go up therefore ur leg won't go down. once ur head lifted from water, ur leg started to drop and dragging u swim smoothly.. rotate 90 degree?.. meaning from the "face down" to 'just looking at the shoulder' position of the head? |

Added on September 10, 2012, 1:15 pm when swim front craw, the elbow maintain as high as possible close to the water while pull & push? It should stays almost parallel to the surface of the water to some distance. During the drag and pull, the hands and elbows should notl be straight all the way. A more correct stroke would be bending your elbows in the phase. Let the elbows always higher than your forearms and make your forearms almost perpendicular to the surface of the water. Look at this youtube link. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OgnzScthg-4h Added on September 10, 2012, 9:29 pm QUOTE(timetravelller @ Sep 10 2012, 01:13 PM) ya, 1 eye in the water, 1 eye outside the water while breath at side..just rotate, not lift ur head. u lift ur head, ur butt go down, not good.. not in bodyline.. A correct style of the palms to swim more efficiently is to spread the fingers a little bit (abt 20 to 40% of the diameter size of the fingers). QUOTE(Patrick Star @ Sep 13 2012, 03:23 PM) If power goggles, I've only seen TYR brand (if I am not mistaken). You have to purchase both sides separately and attach together (because people generally have different power for both eyes).Price is generally expensive for power goggles, above RM40. Ogival brand also have power goggles (cheapest brand) but water always enter into the goggles. If you tighten it to the max, it gets slightly better but will be painful. It is also sold in pair (for both eyes). |

Hi Added on September 14, 2012, 8:23 am the best goggle is speedo no doubt. RM69 buck each. i use ogival b4, but ogival seem not fully water tightness. got water seep in when i use that, maybe my face size not suit but i use speedo it was fine.. so far speedo serve me well for years.. ogival sold at abt 43 bucks.. tabata or view brand is abt RM50+, never use that b4.. TYR is the cheapest 1 i think, never use that b4 also.. Added on September 14, 2012, 8:26 ampatrick, still swim at sd club?? anyone want swim together this weekend? time traveller, want swim this week? |

The only pool that is easily accessible by public transport is PJ Palm, which is just less than 5 mins walk from Taman Jaya LRT station. And you can do lap swim as this pool lesser people. Two things, night session is RM 8 per entry, locker at rent on RM 1, the other end of pool is 4 meters deep. |

And you can do lap swim as this pool lesser people. Two things, night session is RM 8 per entry, locker at rent on RM 1, the other end of pool is 4 meters deep. pool length? |

If its not because of the entry fees is so expensive, I would have swim in this pool often. I thinks i will back to Kelana Jaya pool this week, cause its just been renovated, more private shower area and clean toilet.

Parking, park on the side of the road la, night no need to pay ma, weekend also no need to pay, but if not car park outside the PJ palm sport club, can make a round turn to park at top where all the makamah(court), JPJ of MPPJ located la. DONT park just outside the club which is in vertical, those cost RM 5, just park right beside the road (got yellow square box one) opposite the club. Worst come to worst, you can also park in A&W, also free one, but need to walk a bit la. |

QUOTE(riezam79 @ Dec 18 2012, 02:35 PM) hahaha...no need to train for 6-7 km at pool...if u manage to swim 2-3 km at pool equal to 6 km open water... psychology is the most important in open water...usually we start our session around 8 pm ended at 10.30 pm..i'll pm u my contact no in case u coming really only 2-3km that means about 100 length on a 25m? i'm very interested in the event, however i've only swim back since 20 years and relearn it.. i wonder if i can be fit enough by then if i train daily.. i haven't work out for quite a while.. as i found out from totalimmersion.. they practice a different kind of freestyle.. is that what you guys doing too? |

QUOTE(hidden830726 @ Jan 29 2013, 11:54 PM) hi siifu all, i'm using 500 on each eyes.. if u want to get the whole goggle get the lower power from both eyes, since we don't really need perfect vision in the water.. and overpower lens is bad for the eye.. cause when in the water it magnify things too.. so just lower than your actual power is fine...I havent swim for a long time, thinking of swimming back, being a person wearing spec since kids and dislike wearing contact lens, Is it possible to get swiming googles with power of 650 each eyes? however if the diff is too much like 200/500.. you might want to consider assemble one out of each.. i'm using View.. the price of assemble one and whole set is not much different... |
