Bernanke's speech is released and gold only moving upwards.
At $1812 at the moment, up $37 since the market opened.
Honestly i dont see prices dropping back to $1650 guys. Even at its worst sell off in 3 years, prices pared at $1700 and shot back up.

Gold drop was just too short, cant buy it in time. Bernanke speech influence a lot since he knows whats going on. Hopefully can see the next drop. I tend to sell high and muster up again when low.

At the moment, need to wait for more infos.

I'd like to share with everyone here on KFH as I've done it last week. I believe others can shed some light on the rest of the issues mentioned.

you cannot just go to KFH counter and buy physical gold. you can only withdraw in gold or cash.

so b4 you can withdraw, you need to have an account first, i.e opening a new gold account. then buy the amount that you desire, lowest being the minumum set by KFH.

let say you buy 20g at bank sell rate. then a few days later you want to sell 10g back to KFH and get physical gold.

so, KFH will withdraw from you gold account and give you the physical gold. the best part is, there's no rate involve at all. later they'll issue you a new certificate showing the balance, i.e. 10g.

that's it. bring the gold bars home and play with them. rclxm9.gif

the waiting part is the turn off. doh.gif

btw, as i know, they have 1/5/10g bar. sorry no pisc as i've to snap them first and upload. this may take some time. if you're in a hurry. google image give faster result. thumbup.gif

Glad i found this thread, now only i know Public Bank has online transaction for gold.
Gold price is getting to expensive for me.
Hope they allow minimum purchase of 1g instead of 5g.
But i don't want to go queue up at a bank every month so online transaction is better for people who wants to make frequent purchase in small amount.

Public bank initial minimum purchase 10grams, and minimum subsequent transaction 5grams & multiple of 1gram.

Thanks for the correction.
Minimum purchase 20g is not a problem.
It's the subsequent transaction of minimum 5g i was referring to.

Public Banks's Online Trading system is also pursuant to office hours (when the counter opens). So, theoretically, it is limited to Malaysian time, not international gold markets time.

there are tons of gold user groups on FB and elsewhere some of which are luring you into joining their own scheme

any comment on the difference between 999 and 995? i heard during the old time, 995 is the standard, nowdays thanks to technology, they can achieve 999 standard.

other than that? what is the difference? price wise, 995 is slightly cheaper?

Why not focusing on kijang Emas, we can put it at Arrahnu and gain some cash. Then buy new Kijang Emas again... http://t.co/q7VE3Tr

not easy to get kijang emas and the premium is slightly higher. better australian nuggets - cheaper and easier.

Hi,

Just curious.

Let say, if want to sell gold we have here at others country.

Do they accept public gold ? How to know ?

Example :

1) Your gold selling price is above than bought price.
1) Bring 50gm gold to Japan and convert it to Japan Yen.
2) Come back to Malaysia and convert to RM

-Reason is to get more yield from currency conversion-

Above is for example only, still dont know which currency hv more yield from each other

The lowest spread for Gold investment account is actually at UOB singapore, negligible spread, but with maintainance fee or 0.25% per annum

I agree and I chose Normandy (GoldMoney) and UAE (Gbullion). But delivery of physical gold in GoldMoney much more than in Gbullion.

Added on August 28, 2011, 11:35 pm Maybe there is a better way to delivery gold?

Paper Gold is good, can get from UOB. But don't buy physical, it sucks as GST is charged

mind posting your chart you drafted here?
I use a WP7 app on my Samsung Focus to track the gold price. It uses a 100-day MA, unlike Kitco's 14-day and 200-day ( I find Kitco's MAs too long or too short in seeing a peak/trough cycle for my needs ).

Talk about gold investment, lately , i was approached by some people to buy gold bar. But strange enuf, they tell me i can become business associate to sell the gold bar if i dont plan to invest physical gold bar. Then i look at the plan, looks like mlm , but their product is gold bar. He even showed me his physical gold bar to me . He said, once i invest in the scheme , his company will issue physical gold bar to me for keeping. He showed photocopy of his compnay registration licence to show his company is legal and told me a lot dato's also invested in it.
Anyone heard of it? Another scam in the lurking?

Gold chart updated. See how chikou respects the kumo @ Gold H1 chart. Because H1 is bullish and H4 is bearish, thus unclear directions. Once price breaks red trendline, more bearish movement to be expected. If price breaks above kumo @ H4, expect bull to resume.

No i am not full time trader. Soon. It is not easy to be a full time trader, thou many claims it is easy. Yes i trade mainly on technical. I do not really look at fundamentals because i find ichimoku trading system to be magical. Price always respect every component of ichimoku. I have been trading 2 years +. Results, up and downs. smile.gif

Ah, too bad. Looks like gold prices will stay jumpy in the 1750 - 1850 band until some news push it up or down those lines, for us watching vultures to pounce on, either to profit or to top up.

Added on August 30, 2011, 10:20 pmThat 100-day MA I use would probably rise to a new stabilised level if this continues.

Gold now at US$1,828. Very volatile period. The moment gold drops below 1,800, ppl start to load up thus pushing prices higher. So it will take some some major rally in the stock market to ensure gold drops again.

At the moment, need to wait for more infos.

Got the opportunity to buy at drop price last week for Maybank GSA at RM171.00/gram... this week already up at RM177.00/gram. Waiting for another drop to keep both of my child 'duit raya'...

bcos the follow the price by FGJAM which is a standard for all gold shops and they are always very high. this meant for most jewellery products. don't forget they will also charge you "upah".

bullion gold bars/coins price usually follows the world's spot price plus premiums which is lower.

i've noticed some jewelleries do sell cheaper than the FGJAM price.

Haiyo...small drop like that, nothing unusual la.

On another note, I have a sneaking suspicion that Gold will retest the 1779 level before making another jump.

ok.... but i have compare few times like some local gold bar selling higher than imported brand.

if we talk about quality and premium, i think imported brand is supposed to be higher than local brand. am i right?
some more, most of imported brand are highly demand and well-know in global bullion market and also they are licensed Internationally.

Gold price has increased around 20% per year started from 2006. If you expect gold price will increase at least 20% per year in the future, Poh Kong gold bar is a good option too since they providing installment with 0% interest for 1 year. Their deduction for cash around 10%-12%, we are paying old price for future value.

The gold price seem to touch USD 2000 / Oz. If this happen I will sell my Kijang and MGIA. Then wait the price to drop as happened on 23rd Aug 2011.

Hmm. Gold price jumped the 1850 mark. Wonder where the averages will lie or when a 2008-2009 drop [dropped 200 USD] can happen (the best time to stock up on gold).

I want to keep mine long term. If you want to profit from gold, just calculate how much you bought your gold vs how much bank is buying from you.

Read gold commentries here:

Gold now trading at US$ 1,883 per ounce. Will gold rise further? I think it will based on the following articles.

Short term buying n selling will only get you small returns while exposing you to greater risks. Always plan to keep gold for a longer period. Keep buying at the dips but try and hold on to the gold longer as the long term outlook for gold is up.

Gold prices look too volatile for me looking back with 6-10 months data. Trying-to buy in at a good price point is getting harder. Short-term peak price points where profit-seekers also cash in seem to push prices down at times that make it jump in directions uncertain for the stable investor.

Ya, don't buy from Poh Kong. Buy from UOB better:

http://www1.uob.com.my/personal/useful/price_rates.html

It's only about RM183 per gm (1oz rounds). You can also see their buy/sell difference is only about 3.25%

hi guys..
i just started to read bout gold investment these last few days..
from what i understand, investing in bank gold account is not preferable unless the bank is backed up by physical gold.
so it is better to buy physical gold.. am i correct?
the question is, is it really safe to buy physical gold from company like public gold? is it true that we can only sell back the gold to where we bought them?
and we cant do like buy gold from public gold and then keep it in a bank if we dont want to keep them ourself?

@geniousboy

Generally speaking, paper gold is not advisable if you plan to keep long term. I'd say they are more for speculating. But 1 thing good about paper gold is you dont have to risk theft & robbery like physical gold.

I haven't bought from public gold so i can't comment about them. but gold is gold. you can sell any gold in goldsmith shops (wah chan, poh kong, etc) although the buy back price might be very much lower. the point is, if its an emergency, its easy to liquidate your physical gold.

as for keeping physical gold in banks, thats what safe deposit boxes (sdb) are for wat wink.gif

@littleprawn

you can check for uob price here:

http://www1.uob.com.my/personal/useful/price_rates.html

for GIA prices check under Gold Investment Accounts Prices

if you're loaded, use the premier gold account la. RM1 difference only wat biggrin.gif

i checked with their staff before. they said something like better to sell n get back the money then use the money to buy physical. if u really want to convert gia to physical, you have to pay the difference plus another RM150 conversion charges.

ar-rahnu agrobank - only jewellery stuff
ar-rahnu b.rakyat - jewellery and coins - kijang emas, ozzie nuggets and maple from UOB only. you must have the receipt/cert.

be careful though on maple as some UOB cashier said, they won't buyback if already open the softcase, but another one said, can sellback as long no weight loss due to scratch and no dent.

thank you mbj78, keii-kun dan Francesco Top8 for sharing.

Did you all attend any seminar b4? if yes, which one/s?

as a newbie, i'm attending 2 weeks from now organised by a rempit group.

basicly I only know simple techniques which are straight forward. actually i'm just curious to know how other techniques work.

i disagree with some people taking advantage by charging thousands RM just to learn a few techniques. I inquired once for personal coaching is 2K.

just to test one simple method, next week i may want to go to bank rakyat and ar-rahnu a gold bracelet. then with the cash i'll just top up into my gold account and wait till end of the year (around 4 months).

we'll see what happens by then thumbup.gif

Just learn it online.
Not a fan of any gold/silver seminar by investment scheme/group, because i think they just want to sell their products.

The point is, u buy some recognized gold and pawn it. If u get lucky and the gold prizes increased, u gain. That`s all.
U must have a thick blood because there`s plenty of factors to considered.

If u committed for gold investment, just buy 995 or 999.
916 are more towards jewellery not investment nod.gif

Hi Guys!

Can I walk in to a bank and sell my Canadian Gold Maple Leaf or Australian Gold Nugget coins or Kijang Emas at their buying market rate? If yes, which bank?

What if I do not have any documentation (paper)?

Except 916 has robustness for general circulation coinage, as opposed to 995 or 999 [Which is why most Islamic dinars are minted to 916/917 standards]. Though in such a situation, that means fiat money has literally gone up in flames!

hi guys..
i just started to read bout gold investment these last few days..
from what i understand, investing in bank gold account is not preferable unless the bank is backed up by physical gold.
so it is better to buy physical gold.. am i correct?

Yes, read these articles:

FAQs on Gold Investment Accounts (GIA) You Should Know
Have you studied the FAQs as seen on GIA’s promotion leaflets and websites? Here are two very important FAQs and WARNING you should be aware of (normally listed at the bottom of the GIA’s promotools) …Full story, http://bit.ly/r0w0fY

Allocated Gold or Unallocated Gold – That is the Question
“Buy physical gold and have it stored. We do not recommend you buy unallocated gold as, really, you are only buying a piece of paper that says your account is worth the same as the futures gold price. Not actually gold.“ Full story, : http://bit.ly/psEhbn

Better put your money in Genneva Gold Savings Plan: http://bit.ly/qW1Yid

What rubbish is this? Bottom out in matter of days and hours? Look at the chart for past year.......
Then he tells you to sell? How to sell when it bottoms and swings upwards so fast??????
He contradicts himself!

Its obvious this idiot conman is trying to get you to sell yer gold to him/her

QUOTE
The most convenient and easy way to sell your gold is through an online gold broker. Using an online gold broker to get cash for your gold eliminates the need to search for a reputable local gold broker, which may be difficult to find in smaller markets and rural areas, while also saving you time and money.

Selling your gold to an online broker is a safe, secure method of getting cash for gold while the value of gold is still high. It’s as simple as contacting the gold broker, requesting a gold kit, and dropping the insured mailer in your mailbox. The gold broker will then give you an appraisal for your items, and if you decide to sell, the broker will then make payment for your gold.

hi everyone,

i bought some gold i think very small arund 12mg or 13mg at maybank passport account thing ...

just wonder, should i keep that for few years (assume i don't buy more than that) and sell later ... or i should monitor the gold market and sell when it goes high? how does it work?

and lastly, should i buy gold every month? more like force savings thing? now maybanks allows me to but 1 mg, so more affordable though smile.gif but maybank rate is a bit expensive than pb and cimb bank sad.gif

any help? thanks.

my two cents opinion

i would buy maple as it is a recognised brand which is tradeable worldwide very easily as compared to public dinar which is more for muslims

also maple is 999 - almost perfect and dinar is 916 only

also the difference in weight as maple is 1/10 oz and the dinar is 4.25 grams - so you got to check out the weights of these items

alwaysy remember compare apple to apple and orange to orange - BUT remember there are many many varieties of each

to find out more public dinar
http://www.publicdinar.com/content/view/48/53/lang,english/

if you want local gold - SriAyu is amongst the cheapest - well if u compare on a the website prices of WE SELL per gram -

http://www.sriayu.com/v2/

http://www.publicgold.com.my/

http://www.goldcrestpavilion.net/gcp/kami_jual.php

i am an agent of SriAyu - disclosure
BUT when you are buying gold u would want to buy the cheapest possible - right and what i am sharing with u is on the websites and therefore it is only accessible to anyone and there are no hidden costs

maple. should be around 3.1gm of pure 24k 999.9 gold
1st - it is recognized by LBMA (mentioned by goldchan).
2nd - if it is from uob - better (can go ar-rahnu bank rakyat during hard times) wink.gif

do note that you can't sell back uob maple/nugget if the receipt is not your name. only the owner can sell back to UOB.

so, decide carefully if you plan to buy one, if the difference than buying new is significant.

hi all,
i'm a noob also when it comes to investing in gold.... just trying to understand here...what possible scenario that can make the gold price go down in a free fall ?

for example...US dollar... if the gov continue to borrow and their debt ceiling explode, then maybe US Gov print more money and cause their value to drop...

in the case of gold...what could possibly happen to cause this?
maybe the one i can think of is people mass selling the gold in panic...this is one potential situation...what else?

thanks for all inputs! need to understand and learn.. smile.gif

Anyone here know where to get 1/10 oz of maple other than UOB and where can I get 2.5g of Pamp Suisse? Just wondering, for gold coins, there's a standard guideline like UOB rates you can follow, how about Pamp bars? Any site that I can follow the rates?

usually they do at the end of the month, around 22nd-ish for bank rakyat. they will put up notice and display the items.

The most simple case is to look at the 1981 gold price peak. Panic sentiment not based upon correct assumptions on general GLOBAL market trends.
Local gold prices according to one's currency is also an indicator to your nation's inflation conditions (or not, I'm actually unclear on this).
The current trend since 2008 or, one could say since 2001, is unlike the 1981 peak as the global economy is now tied to US monetary & fiscal policies that are increasingly unsustainable. The current rise will not stop unless a stabilised world economy reappears. Europe and America in turmoil is not going to send gold to drop overnight.

Unless they suddenly found a big 1 million tonne ore seam in someone's backyard ...

Oh .. but I advise if a mountain of gold appears at the Euphrates, stay clear of it ...

sweat.gif yeah, either the end of the world fighting begins here and/or gold prices worldwide falls (due to sudden glut of above ground gold)?

my two cents opinion

bro - your advice " Better invest on unit trust" is good for almost everyone who wants an easy and assured return

BUT as all of us know - super profits are only enjoyed by those who a little of risk and are optimistic of the future

"also in the long run we're all dead" - John Maynard Keynes - one the most famous economist

so let's make some profit while we can and to those who wants to invest in unit trust - go ahead

so lets hope that the price rises and rises
i bought in at RM 160 on average and the price is today is RM 191 for SriAyu gold bar

so there itself a potential profit of RM 31 and still going up

as only those who have physical gold would enjoy the maximum benefit of the price increase

for example if one had purchased a house in Taman Tun in late 1980 at about RM 80,000
it was almost hulu area those days - outskirts of town
today it is worth almost 1 million
BUT i did not buy that house - i did not have the guts and i was contented in living in a rented house - so more loss

my opinon it is really up to you - i still think it so much better invest in approved unit trust compared to keeping in FD

BUT if you want super profits - then read up and have some guts and you will enjoy super duper profits

once u already buy - do not look at gold prices at least for 6 months and then you will notice the difference

just like we are growing older everyday - in fact in every single minute there are changes in our body - BUT we cannot see

so for those who want super profits - gold is the way of the future and the REAL MONEY

GOLD is GOD's money will never lose - ONLY PROFITt

as only those who have physical gold would enjoy the maximum benefit of the price increase

Relax... the last time it crossed over $1900 it instantly came crashing down again. Now it is hovering around $1900 quite steadily - sure cross the mark.

When it hits $2000 it will also probably come down again very fast to $18XX, and then rise slowly to go over $2000. I'm planning to exit at $2000 and go back in at $18XX - we'll see how well my plan works!

Gold now trading at US1,910. The reason it drops after a good rise is due to profit taking.

But the idea about selling at high prices and buying again at the low is not good. You should keep buying at every dip and not sell when it rises because the general trend of gold is still up. So even with the intermediate dips, the overall gold price is going up. Selling at some rises is merely limiting your overall earnings.

I am new small time gold investor. Bought my gold around 170ish. Just asking, if I want to topup, should I enter now? The price is ridiculously high. I am holding it for a few years hopefully.

The question is: when should I enter? Anyone has tips?

I think the first question you should ask is 'Is the price high now or not?' The same people who said the prices at RM 131/g in May 2010 are too high also saying the prices at RM 186/g now are too high.

The general trend of gold is up. And i think if the economy remains this bad or gets worse, there's every possibility that gold will hit US2,500-3,000 within the next 6-8 months.

For the new investors, they need to understand moving averages if they are to know when they want to buy gold at the prices they'd like. By averaging gold spot price over either a short-,medium-,long-term averages of days, you'd be able to see where gold price dips are to your purchase points.

public bank minimum initial invest amount / gram are lesser than UOB Bank

but UOB has lowest spread price and their selling price always cheaper than other 2 banks happy.gif

so if u dont have much $$ to start invest then u can go public bank 1st? happy.gif

u can refer to following link to see the T&C:

spread is in % difference between buy and sell price, so u may buy in high price, but sell is much lower

Added on September 6, 2011, 2:45 pmlow minimum require = bigger spread

TQ. a very good infor.

let said I buy/sell 1g gold. Does it include the spread price of gold?
UOB has a low spread but I need alot of $$ to open the account. A minimum require 20g.
Is there any bank offer low minimum require?
*
can consider cimb/pbb, both with min 10g, spread better than MBB.

u can buy 1g to open an gold investment account at Maybank.. but spread price higher than UOB

hmmm.. u need to see few things 1st:

1) how much cash u have for this gold investment? if u have RM3706 go UOB as has lowest spread price (UOB current selling price RM185.30, min investment 20g = RM3706), if u have RM1888.40 (Public Bank current selling price RM188.40) then u can go Public Bank, if u have only few hundreds then go Maybank ^^
2) u wan fast in fast out (short term investment)? (but honestly gold is a long term investment, once u invest better let it grow)? if for longer investment better go UOB due to its spread price
3) convenient = Public Bank can trade online anywhere during bank operation hours as long as u have public bank online banking (and public bank offer special price ie lower selling price if u trade / buy online), UOB & Maybank u need to go their branch to buy and sell
4) trustworthy of the trader = better go bank to invest gold as more trustworthy or to those well established one

above just my 0.02 cents tongue.gif im not that pro in gold investment too just learning from the pro here happy.gif

Guys,

Please read through all posts (especially the recent ones) to get an idea about how gold behaves. Many of the questions here have been asked numerous times. Its pointless asking the same questions over n over again. So im going to say this once for all newbies here.

Gold currently is on a major thrust upwards. But when there is a drastic rise (more than US$50 in a short timeframe), there will always be profit taking. This results in prices dropping until a lower barrier. Once prices are low enough, then the buyers move in with their purchases which in turn raises the gold price further. With the additional bad news coming out of US & Europe, this upper barrier for gold is raised further just like what happened today when gold prices reached US$1,920. Based on what's happening in US & Europe, there are good indications that gold will reach US$2,000-2,500 in the next 6 months unless the US recovers.

People generally will buy gold at the dips and some will sell when gold hits a high price. But i would always recommend buying at dips and not selling the gold u have when prices increase just to make short term profits. Gold is supposed to be a long term investment (physical and GIA investment).

So hope my brief explanation above will help answer questions like 'When is the best time to buy'. Gold is currently trading at US$1,895. Lets see how gold performs when US markets open in 3 hours time.

(p/s Can i suggest that we refrain from making comments that are not beneficial to the general discussion? Comments like 'hope you guys make alot of money', etc only serve to lengthen the thread. It makes it difficult for newbies to make reference to previous posts as they have to scroll through numerous pages.)

Thanks!

Most probably London side are pushing the price down to spook the speculators so that when NYSE opens, the bloodbath wont be so bad and less ppl want to jump onto the gold wagon. So far looks like they're not doing a good job rclxs0.gif

Just be patient and wait for a few more hours for NYSE open brows.gif

Edit: Correction, not London, its the Swiss pegging their currency to 1.20 of Euro and causing all the dips

i feel that the highest point to hit gold is 1920USD now... and the price is still not that stable @ 1900USD..

but it stand strong at 18xx USD.. so tonight as US market opens, the gold will lead the stocks market goes green or red.. maybe they are pushing gold down to make stocks market price to lead green as bro bigwolf mentioned..

best of luck guys..

i still cant understand the relation between USD value of gold and the price of what we buy here.
MBB is selling at RM187 as of this afternoon, so how do i interpret this in USD thousand? it is how many thousand USD to have the price of RM187 in MBB?

Its spot gold per gram in USD x exchange rate. Assuming spot gold per gram is USD61 and exchange rate is 3.011

USD61 x 3.011 = RM183.67

Spot price fluctuates a lot in a day although forex rate is not so much. Perhaps MBB also charge a few ringgit extra for processing fees or something. So RM187 depends on what spot rate & forex rate & processing costs(?)

1oz = 31.1gram

eg : 1oz = 1900USD

((1900usd / 31.1gram)USD exchange rate) = RM

hope that formula helps you.. roughly price...

buy price = add bank spread rate on gold spot price
sell price = international gold price (www.goldprice.org)

Investors who were putting their money in Swiss Francs were badly hit. So most of them would have pulled put but didnt go into stocks or gold which probably led to gold dropping in tandem with stocks. But wait for the European stock markets to open later in the afternoon before we can gauge the true impact of the Swiss Franc peg. Gold currently trading at US$1,877 now. We should see a price of about RM 182/g on Maybank this morning.

That a tricky answer that have to be found by yourself. Rates for UOB today 181.60, tomorrow maybe 17+ or 19+. No one know.

But I smell something coming soon

nice thread over here, I kind of late to starts invest. but will do it since last week follow my brother buying his wedding ring and shocked on gold price that time. Anyway, the available option 4 me to invest is only to use PBB since i m now in Betong, Sarawak. the nearest UOB is 300km away compared to PBB (70km) and they offer online transaction oso. Btw apart from banks, are there any trusted third party organisation whom selling physical gold?

Exactly! Gold is not like stock market la. You cannot micro monitor gold investments (unless ure in gold stocks). There will always be rises and dips in gold pricing throughout the day. Most important is you get the best (not right) price when you invest.

Take yesterday for example. Even though gold went up like crazy initially, the final closing price on Maybank was RM 184.08 which was less than Monday's close of RM 184.84.

Gold seems to be dropping drastically now. Its now at US$1,834. Maybank's rate is RM 178.98 now. We will get a clearer picture when European markets open soon. Till then just take it easy and dont get excited too much guys. Remember that you're just adding on to the number of pages in this thread and making it extra long with no real valuable input.

true, i have a feeling many ppl from forex or stocks that gonna get excited over every ringgit up and getting stress out for every ringgit down. yes we need to monitor it, but if u keep refreshing ur tab every minutes, its not good for ur health (waste of time) plus its doesnt represent the clear picture anyways.. of coz every hours it will go up n down, what do u expect? a linear graph?

what matter is, at the end of d month or week, u make a gain or not. and tell me, past over d months, do u make a profit or loss? there is no use to yell on every RM2 loss since its not ur loss anyway, bcoz u are not selling ur gold in that particular moment right?

trust ur gold and keep it as long as u can. cheers

When the stock markets in US and Europe crashed, many investors jumped to Swiss Franc, Yen and gold. This caused a dramatic rise in all 3 prices. The Japanese gov is already controlling the price of Yen and now with the Swiss Gov pegging the franc, most investors were caught. Many ppl thought that this move would result in gold prices going down too which caused them to panic and sell. Thats why gold prices are dropping now.

My personal opinion is that this drop is very much temporary. Gold will rise again so those of you who wish to invest in gold, better do it now. Ill wait till the US markets open tonite before i invest more into gold. Im looking to pump in about RM 50K so getting the best price is important.

possibly that investors sold their gold to cover losses in their Swiss franc holdings. Switzerland announced to cap the Swiss franc limiting to gain against euro and would do whatever it takes, including would buy almost unlimited amount of foreign currencies.
"They're basically saying they're going to buy a bunch of junk so you shouldn't hold their currency" said Charles Nedoss, a senior market strategist at Olympus Futures.
Gold also pressed lower as the dollar strengthen against the euro and franc.

I think the price will probably drop alil bit more due to nervousness in Asia from the pegging which may be resulting in slim profit taking from when the price was at high 1870's this morning.. But i think it should be increasing again pretty soon. And this is due to a few reasons.

(i) Merkel's party lost another election earlier this week. She's under exceeding pressure to not go around donating German taxpayer money to the rest of EU. I have German friends so i know the public is not happy with their role in the bailouts. In the long run, it could just mean that German donations *may* reduce by alot and the EU end up picking up pieces that broke off the pieces that has broken off. (yes i know Germany is also dependent on the EU market for their exports, hence Germany cant necessarily allow EU to sink, but try telling taxpayers that!).

(ii) We all know ECB has been buying Italian debt over the past few months, but ECB also insisted that the Italian govt undertake a EU45.5b deficit reduction plan, only for Berlusconi to modify the ECB reduction plan, removing measures he wasnt comfortable with. In short what i mean to say is, to keep an eye on this as its not over yet. Italy could be in deeper trouble in the near future.

(iii) Also i read someone saying in the earlier pages that gold price tends to go up when Bernanke speaks. Whether or not that is the case, i know that he is due to speak at the end of the week. It could cause prices to move up (likely i think) or down. Though a more likely factor would be Jean Claude Trichet's monthly economic outlook on EU which is also due this week.

p/s - im no gold bull, i just do my homework
pp/s - i agree that this thread is starting to become 'gold micromanaged' hmm.gif

Probably a 'want and see' situation. But they wont wait for long. Gold is still hovering around US$1,838 and RM180.73 on Maybank.

emirates is cheapest, but dunno whether its easy to sell or not.
kangaroo is more well known, i think.
pamp is most expensive, but very popular and well known for its premium.

if it was me,
for long term, i'll buy emirates. if for trading, i'll buy either kangaroo or pamp.
anyway, all are still gold. u wont go wrong, unless gold market went into recession... sweat.gif

sri ayu price per gram wud be quite cheap compared to the rest. but to sell, i think its more towards the malay markets.

I wonder what happened if there's a fall out where the other European countries do not want to help the PIIGS??

Will gold rise to heaven again?

Seems that the resistance line above $ 1900 is really strong.

Need a really bad news to break it thru.

Any in the horizon?

Some asked me why did gold reversed? Nobody really knows but there was some strong indication.

1. Let's draw some important S&R by using chikou. As in the image attached, S&R was drawn from daily & weekly chart.
2. What is S&R? Support and resistance is a potential reversal "area". I do not consider it as a point, but an area of potential reversal.
3. When price reaches an important S&R, what we do is wait for a clear direction of what the market wants to do. Then, we will ride the trend with the market. As a trend trader, i do not try to pick any tops or bottoms.
4. At a S&R, if it forms a reversal candle, then it will support that it is a strong reversal region. Thus, at XAUDaily image, it formed a double top with reversal candlestick pattern called engulfing.
5. As a trend trader, we wait for a clear direction by scaling into smaller time frame that support the direction of the reversal.
6. As seen in the M15 chart, entry upon kumo breakout was a good one with stop loss at recent high.
7. TP will be using trailing Senkou Span B.
8. Did you see what happens to price when it reached the next support at 1850.43?

Hope this analysis helps you to understand the power of multiple time frame analysis. Until price breaks SSB @ M15, it looks like it will going down for awhile despite hitting the H2 kumo.

So based on this, what would be the lower supprt level before prices start to rise again? So far prices are stagnating around the US$1,840 level.

As a trend trader, i do not try to pick tops or bottoms. Nor do i try to catch the start of the trend nor end of the trend. It is difficult for me to answer your question. Therefore, the only way is to observe for a change of trend, which will be to break the Senkou Span B in M15 chart. Another suggestion, as mentioned in my analysis, spot some reversal points in the S&R i have plotted. I am definately watching the 1806.91 smile.gif

Prices has broke the $ 1820... does it mean it will go down further?

Or is this the end of the bull run?

emirates is cheapest, but dunno whether its easy to sell or not.
kangaroo is more well known, i think.
pamp is most expensive, but very popular and well known for its premium.

if it was me,
for long term, i'll buy emirates. if for trading, i'll buy either kangaroo or pamp.
anyway, all are still gold. u wont go wrong, unless gold market went into recession...  sweat.gif

nidz said already bro, long term - buy the cheapest 999.9 bar/dinar/gold or whatever gold. ignore the spread. gold is still gold.

trading/short term - buy the smallest spread.

I think that since the Swiss franc has been pegged, the future or prospect of gold is even better.

Now the only safe heaven is gold.

But can any government rule the prices of gold or it depends on the supply and demand?

Heh. The price drop is not going to dampen gold's upward trend. Since the current global markets and economies, coupled with monetary policies like the Swiss, are slow moving behemoths that have been jolted by more larger crises, the Swiss peg are unlikely to do much than a realignment of portfolios than anything else. Great time to top up!

Guys, I suppose every bank has their minimum balance in their passbook account, exp(maybank 2gm, UOB, 10gm, etc). Let say Im in emergency and need to withdraw all my gold in the account and exceeding their minimum balance. do we still get our full amount of money. or they will eat our minimum balance?coz my friend says that let say UOB have 10gm minimum balance and we r going to close our account. they will eat up all 10gm of our gold as the result??

i dont think so. IMO, lets say u hav 15gm in uob and u wanna withdraw 10gm. they wont allow it, unless u withdraw all 15gm and close account with them. later, if u want to invest, u hav to open new account all over again. smile.gif

You can maintain 0gm in UOB. I did that and few days later buy in again no problem.

If your GIA is less than 10gm the bank will only charge you RM5 maintenance fees per month

Edit: ooppsss sorry some wrong info. They will charge RM2 per month, not RM5

actually, minimum gram to open and maintain the account is only 1 gram. You also can top up minimum 1 gram.

I have one account with maybank and i don't mind about the spread since I'm doing this for long term investment.

I agree with that. If you put long term for gold your return can up to 50% for 1 year.
If u manage to buy 500gm x 50%, do the math

Dont be silly.......gold has not return more than 35% in a year in ringgit terms in the last ten years...........

Even yer statement is ridiculous..........long term and 1 year..........1 year is not long.......... nod.gif

Even that is speculative.....there are no guarantees......especially when someone buys gold at the rising price.
We may see still see the gap at $1675 to be closed.

In 2004, gold returned 'only' 5.37%..........so theres no guarantee

You message is misleading..........even with 50% over two years

but 2004 is so old liao.. did you see the trend of recent year? 2010, 2009?

theres no guarantee, but confirm is the return will be there, even 5.37 is better than fix deposit saving.

True - 2004 is "so old liao" + 2009-2010 spike.

Ever heard of "the more things change, the more things stays the same" + "this time it's different" which is usually followed by "oh oh.. crap"?
Look at gold's spike in 1980s and the subsequent fall and flatline until about 2001-2002. Yeah - different circumstances but prices usually move based on greed/fear right?

History is history to be long forgotten... until it happens again.. and again.. and again.. This time it's different! Which may be right but er.. statistically, i wouldnt bet on it tongue.gif

Just a thought.

BTW, comparing gold to FD is akin to comparing jets and scooters tongue.gif. One's speculative for trading on price/volume movements Vs another is lending $ to the bank "safely" (depending on what safely means to one lar).

And since U posted 5.37% is better than FD, what about bonds and bond funds (averaging 5% to 6%pa compounded)? heheh - okok, i'm being a donkey comparing apples vs bhut jolokias

The way hes written, hes so sure.....do the maths at 50%........

If you buy HIGH, you may not get the 50% in two years, let alone a year.......

This year to date, gold has alreadt risen 24.68%.......means if you buy NOW, you maybe buying HIGH

So, whats the probability of making another 25%??? whistling.gif

In the last 10 years, gold has not returned more than 24% in annual gains, only 4 years more than 20%

SO do yer maths on RISK/REWARDS.......... rolleyes.gif

Wall St closed 2.5% higher, following the German court’s rejection of
lawsuits barring bailout assistances to Europe. Market also gained
ahead of Obama’s USD300bln jobs proposal Thursday. Banks gained
following the management shakeouts at Bank of America. Gold
tumbled.

Dont want to see gungho newbies getting hurt and giving gold a bad name like some MLM
sellers here.

Many are just jumping in the bandwagon without proper research and making obscene
projections without qualifying numbers and statements.
Some people may just get injured financially

the word "maybe'? tongue.gif you would like to buy at affordable price or even miss the boat?

"HIGH" is very subjective for different people, some people might have the capital to go in high while other wait for low end, but eventually it will go up again, it depend how much you would like to profit from there, set your target and go in with your affordable capital, you will never know when it will be lowest or when will it be at highest.

biggrin.gif enlighten me, where will it hit the lowest? i know everyone will want to earn with the highest margin, but you 'might' miss the boat.

btw, this is my personal thought and it might not promise a good return

Yeah right. dont trade the gold for short-term, hell care the 'spike' or 'flatline' if you dont even sell it eventually you 'might' be earning right? tongue.gif

yeah good for looking back at history and the graph, but can you confirm the future can be predicted?

i will only say buy if you afford at that price, you won't know when it is lowest or highest except if you came from future tongue.gif
