Not sure but to me, ISO 3200 on D700 already got noise.

I find the "noise" as in fine grain in the D700 not as disturbing as chroma noise.

Always wanted to do this but you need a press pass to be able to get close to the action.

What software are you using to PP?

If you're shooting NEF / RAW, there is no difference on the high ISO noise reduction setting because you can always change it to whatever setting if you're using Nikon software like Capture NX or View NX.

If you're using other 3rd party softwares like Lightroom or Photoshop, the only parameter that is recognised from the NEF / RAW file is the camera white balance. Other infos are all ignored.

The high iso reduction setting only affects if you're shooting JPG. Of course if you shoot NEF / RAW only and view the NEF / RAW files from the camera LCD screen, your camera actually views the JPG file that is imbedded in the NEF / RAW file. So that JPG file (embedded in the NEF / RAW) that you are viewing is affected.

Canon's noise reduction tends to make subjects look plasticky. To some people's eyes they look clean and better but I prefer a natural look.

Need some help here. Why when shooting, the shutter sound like "chap ..... chak" instead of "chap-chak"? The " ..... " indicates some delay like 1 second?

Even I use high speed shutter, it still behaves the same. I wonder if this is normal? I'm not really familiar with my DSLR yet.

Nope. I'm not using "Quiet" mode. I suppose the "chap-chak" is like a swift thing, but mine is "chap ..... chak". I wonder if this is normal or something I configured? Won't be body fault gua...

Check your Exposure Delay mode settings. If you turn it on, there will be delay about 1s.
It's under Shooting/Display settings.

After I turned it OFF, the shutter goes back to "chap-chak" swiftly. This setting is to enable/disable the delay in shutter release to reduce vibration in extreme cases where slight movement will cause blurring.

import picture, select picture, go to develop tab, start playing with the settings there

next, search for some lightroom presets. apply to your picture and further adjust/tweak the settings

When we import picture and develop, Adobe Lightroom will not create another copy nor amend the original file, izzit?

It'll just save the file location and the settings in database, only when we export it'll then generate the file.

Please do correct me if I'm wrong.

import settings can be defined; so it's up to you whether to create a copy or not during import. as for editing, yes, it is non-destructive editing.

Hi guys, I just noticed there's a line going down vertically from my focusing box. If the focus box is on the left then the line goes horizontally left same goes with the right side..
Anyone notice this or there's some defect on mine? the line will only appear once the camera is switched on and with the focus box.
btw, i notice this after getting my camera back from Nikon for servicing..

perhaps i'll see u there next yr.

Not recommended, better go for D3100 or D7000, because D90 can't AF while recording and the focusing speed on Live View also slow. Best of all, D3100 and D7000 are Full HD.

Me me, I love doing recording, hate it that D90 can't AF while recording. Now thinking to go for D7k after using D90 for 1 month

D3100 auto AF while recording not so precise also. sometimes can run run also.
go for D7000 and give it a try

That "run run" part can be nice too you know, because of the bokeh-ness

Yup. Agreed. MF gives a more artistic feel to the video. AF makes your video looks like it's being shot with a Handycam.

video is much more demanding in terms of focusing as compared to a still photo. still photos can afford to have a couple of misfocused frames in the middle of a burst shot, but video doesn't have the luxury unless you're talking amateur video lah where anything goes

the "run run" focus is nice to have as an ease-in/out transition but having the autofocus misfocusing in the middle of recording... ugh imo not very nice.

That's why Hollywood already have AF in cameras since many many decades ago. It's called the focus puller.

Just now I developed a raw image and then exported to JPEG. Now when I reloaded the Adobe Lightroom, the "edit" I had done for the image already gone? How do I retrieve it by any chance? Do I need to "save" or anything after I had done the adjustment?
