QUOTE(vearn27 @ Mar 19 2011, 04:38 PM) Anyone willing to spare some time to share some quick guides and quick tips on how to use Adobe Lightroom? import picture, select picture, go to develop tab, start playing with the settings there next, search for some lightroom presets. apply to your picture and further adjust/tweak the settings

QUOTE(vearn27 @ Mar 19 2011, 04:58 PM) When we import picture and develop, Adobe Lightroom will not create another copy nor amend the original file, izzit? It'll just save the file location and the settings in database, only when we export it'll then generate the file. Please do correct me if I'm wrong. import settings can be defined; so it's up to you whether to create a copy or not during import. as for editing, yes, it is non-destructive editing.

video is much more demanding in terms of focusing as compared to a still photo. still photos can afford to have a couple of misfocused frames in the middle of a burst shot, but video doesn't have the luxury unless you're talking amateur video lah where anything goes the "run run" focus is nice to have as an ease-in/out transition but having the autofocus misfocusing in the middle of recording... ugh imo not very nice.

QUOTE(vearn27 @ Mar 21 2011, 12:54 PM) Guys, when you import your photos with LR, which import setting used? "Copy As DNG" or just "Add"? Then save the RAW files but not the amended one or both? depends on my import source. if it's fresh from cf card: Copy and Add (to copy to HDD and add to catalog) if it's from my HDD: Add. No need DNG conversion for me as I'm highly unlikely to use/share the raw file with others. All changes made to the Raw file are recorded and saved but still the raw file are left untouched so you can go back and forth through your steps.

QUOTE(mmohdnor @ Mar 21 2011, 04:55 PM) so how do i get back the image which i saw on screen when i shoot it? how to disable the auto adjust feature in LR? ... sometimes the pic on the camera just needs a little tweaking. sorry, just started trying to shoot RAW .. hehe. used to shoot jpg all these while. Disable import presets so that no presets will be applied for future imports. Changes made to your pictures are shown in the develop module. You should be able to reset them by undoing a few settings (white balance, brightness, contrast). Then you can just apply the settings to all pictures. Probably there's a better way to do this. But this is what i can think of for now. Not infront of my home comp with lightroom :\

nikon knows their own raw file algorithm better than anyone else. it's their algorithm what...
that said, by no means other party interpretation of the nikon raw file are sloppy. personally i find the difference nothing to be picky about.

if you're talking clients, the only thing that matters is the output lah. you may use capturenx, lr, transfer to film, rescan, photoshop, etc etc; no matter what method you use oso can la as long as the output is nice, youre proud of it and the client likes it.

Thks. davinyan, for more info about this, you can google for "fluorescent flicker". it's not a camera-specific problem. it's just how fluorescent light works

CLS - pros: ttl, able to control remote flash output from master - cons: need line of sight
PW - pros: radio trigger (no need line of sight), reliable - cons: output to be set manually (though i think upcoming pw will be able to control remote flash output)
cls is good in a controlled environment. i sometimes have trouble using it in bright daylight.
pw is much much much more expensive :| unjustified cost if you aren't making money using the camera
