Thanks, but do you recommend me to take this visa signature cc?

Since it is a higher standard than platinum, may be it worth to change to this.

One more thing, i had no problem to waive my annual fee since 6 years I use the citibank cc, will this premier miles got problem to waive? how much should i spend?
*
Well since they offer you then I don't see any problem why you should not accept unless you like to change your points to gifts only then I don't see you have a strong reason to accept the VISA Signature.

PremierMiles not even launched 1 year so I can't comment whether able to waive or not. (I wish not to speculate)

IMHO you should only take the PremierMiles if you fly very frequently. Choosing the best credit card does not depend on the card's prestige but the reward/benefits you could get from it.

well.. it depends, when u pay with a higher prestige cc while paying, u will be more sort of "confident". (imagine all people at the queue take out VI/Plat while someone take out a piece of norm cc, in case u in the high class places) This kind of self-boasting, although not really good, but sometimes are just useful.

Although i agree with u that in reality benefits are more realistic, even u only have cash back silver card.. smile.gif

some normal cc can have Credit Limit up to RM50 k - RM300k

some users just choose normal credit visa card but have high CL rather than platinum or visa signature

usually a normal card's credit limit can only go as high as 10k for classic. for gold, nothing more than 100k. platinum and above, can even reach 1 mil.

Not really, Citibank & Maybank classic card limit can be as high as 30k.
HSBC,Standard Chartered Bank & EON Bank gold card limit can be more than 100k.
For platinum card, nowadays credit card issuers only offer as high as 300k-500k.
Credit card with 1 million credit limit is possible but it will be very very rare.

i rather own a ugly card with 10% cash back rather than some prestige credit card, i think most of the LYN'ian care about reward and benefit laugh.gif

again this is highly subjective. some would rather go for cash back benefits where as some would rather go for other benefits for example air miles even though this means they have to go for high end credit cards that provide best deals for them!

Dear fellow members,

I have an enquiries to ask, which bothers me for quite sometimes..

I was told since many years ago that using credit card for overseas purchase could be cheaper because of favourable exchange rates.

But it seems not to be that case in my recent overseas transactions. Not to mention the extra 1% administrative charges levy by Visa/Mastercard.

If I were to buy from money changer

USD to RM : 3.095 - 3.10

My transactions using credit card:

USD to RM : (RM19.12 = $6.00 which work out to be 3.18)

That's about 3% premium that I have to pay! That may be a small amount, but if the amount is huge, the difference is significant... Is there any person have a completely different experience compared to mine?

Well actually the rate is around 2.5%-2.7% for the above example.

Yes, using credit card the exchange rate will definately be higher than money changer. However you also need to take note of the posting date and transaction date. The conversion rate can also move within 1-3%% within this time frame.

Even if you go to bank and buy bank drafts in US currency the rate will also be higher than money changer and note all banks have different rates. Not only that, for "special" rate (not over counter rate) from banks the conversion rate can also change during the day.

So if you really want to save on conversion rate for overseas transactions, get Maybank Credit Card which has the lowest conversion rate. See 1st post of this thread.

If you don't mind carrying quite an amount of foreign notes, you may make cash payment without being charged by Visa or Mastercard. I think the merchant will be glad to receive cash.

Like Gen-X suggested, get the card which gives you lowest admin charge and highest points/benefits for overseas purchase.

Care to share which CC was used for the purchase.
IMO, I find that MBB's CC has lower forex rate than money changer's rate
