can someone help me wit some of my problems? I am kinda noob
 in these kind of stuff but I ended up with this awsome phone though...^^My N900 virtual keyboard, all the alphabets /words seems to be missing...it can pop up, but there is not even an alphabet there... I am really confuse why has this happened.... when I happen to install some of the application, the system wrote problems is something related to installing hildon... but there isnt any kind of application as mention except for the hildon theme and another one or two of them which are totally not related, same goes to the extras too it can't be found... another thing is that how do i copy and paste my x terminal results? example like df -h ( I would like to copy and paste the results to show and ask for help) the usage of my rootfs is already at 95% so is my ubi0:rootfs... i have seen some forums on the internet that this is a unhealthy figure how do I overcome this problem... Thanks in advance  PS: Hope I did not post at the wrong place asking for advice... If I did I am sorry... and if someone could redirect me... Thanks in advance As for the xterm results, you see the arrow on the xterm toolbar? Click on it so that there's a red slash on it. This means you're in text select mode. Click and drag to select text, and click on the top bar (on the 'untitled') to bring up the app menu -> choose copy. Then switch to browser and Ctrl+V away. As for rootfs, the extras-devel repo catalogue eats up a LOT of this, so disable ex-d unless you need to do something with it. There's also some other steps on the maemo wiki on 'cleaning rootfs', but some of them are kinda iffy so BCOWYDYMBYD (be careful of what you do, you may brick your device). |

Basically, if the virtual memory is use more, then you phone will start to face some performance issue.Sometimes, some process might have "hang" and hogging the processor or ram, best is to install the "System Info Widget" which allows you to monitor the processor and ram usage in percentage in your Desktop. You can also use "Conky" to view in details. If you know how you can manually kill the process or use HTOP app. Basically if you're using Windows, it's like killing monitoring and killing processes in the Task Manager (CTRL+ALT+DEL). It should be a Li-Ion or Li-Poly battery, so it's safer not to drain it completely, altough I think it should have some prevention in place (e.g. will not charge if the battery is below say 10%?). guys about the sunglobal battery i've tested it for one day, it is only slightly better than the original. upon full charge it's only get 1250mAh. i'll try and monitor for few more days and report in.

Haha nah no worries about that. Everything is backed up. To be honest it is stable. Seems like this is the same release that will be coming out soon enough by the looks of it. Maybe touch up here and there.
Nokia has put out an alert saying that the leaked PR is bricking phones although that's not the case. I wonder why? Maybe cause they dont want people to see that this might be the final version of it. |

weh i feel the time for speed i up it to 1150Mhz... guess wat it is very syok to use it... very responsive... it feels like how a real N900 should feel like.. hehe.. but then i just stick to 950MHz.... hehe....

hmn... to be honest according to original ARM specs this processor can go up to 1Ghz, not sure why Nokia had this one set to 600Mhz. Maybe battery life concerns.

Wah, so many overclocking, while I'm actually underclocking (undervolting, actually) to extend batt life. Ran Titan's Ideal profile for awhile, then decided the drain wasn't worth the subtle speed bump.
Now running the XLV profile at 599-250. Not too much sluggishness and far more interesting battery life. Plus, has anyone heard of the WIFI battery drain bug? The WIFI drivers are bugged it seems, and SOMETIMES turning off WIFI will trigger a resultant increased battery drain that is about 2-3 times the norm, even on idle. Something only a restart would cure it seems. Ah, if Nokia really wants to do a half-assed job at mantaining Maemo, they should just release the entire code and declare it a fully open phone. And by fully, I mean fully including the darned dialler app. |

hi all..i got a problem..i can't seem to detect wifi connection..when i press the status for internet connection,the "select connection doesnt detect any wifi,and even GPRS/3G even i have the 3G/GPRS signal.

okay i found out the root cause of my Brain Party.
it requires opengles-sgx-img-common(=0.20091104.6.1+0m5 but what i have in my device is opengles-sgx-img-common(=0.20091104.6.30+0m5 Please do not do this, you may risk having your n900 bricked/damage especially those using RC1.2 leaked version. You have been warned. so i ran and tried to install by » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « and downgraded from 30+0m5 back to 1+0m5. and yes, able to install Brain Party now. =) anyway i think i gotta do a backup restore, i want to stay everything 1.2(leaked) hehe... i have a bad omen having a hybrid firmware 1.1+1.2. ish..the battery suddenly drained so fast???now cannot turn on...need to charge summore...not even a day lah..huhuhu...charged until green light,unplug the charger at 7am...just playing it a lil bit,slept around 1pm,woke up at 4pm,the phone is already dead...
applied evything from changing to GSM,lowered brightness to level 2..disable GPS positioning..and the phone is still stock standard.. |

There's a supposed bug that causes the WIFI drivers to continue draining huge amounts of battery even when it's disconnected.applied evything from changing to GSM,lowered brightness to level 2..disable GPS positioning..and the phone is still stock standard.. Like i said earlier, the only way to resolve it is by rebooting/shutting down. But then again, my N900 eats through its batteries like crazy to begin with anyhow, lol. Lower voltages = lower power consumption, no? This my 1 week progress of battery usage
Mostly i use WIFI and 3G for internet access Network : Most of the time in GSM only switch to Dual when necessary Overclock to 900mhz Calls and sms thru out the day Charge only end of the day  Yellow - Battery bar Green - Volts Light blue - Battery discharge rate Purple - CPU usage Dark Green - Charger Network - White Battery never depletes to ZERO through that 1 week of monitoring This post has been edited by aspire2oo6: May 9 2010, 12:54 AM |

I believe it depends on situation, if using at 100% for long time, surely OC will consume more battery life. But for normal usage, OC actually might give better battery life. If you notice, once we go online with the N900, the processor will use up to 100% for a few seconds, mainly because of connecting to the accounts (skype, etc). Now, with OC, with the extra processing power, it might use less time to complete similar task, thus possibility of consuming less power. Some goes for other processes. Most probably that's why many previous OC without ULV claims to have better battery life than stock. |

Haiz.. I got prob with my n900. I just wanted to change my maxis sim card to digi sim card. After changed, my n900 canot boot up. It show the nokia page, and then blank page and go back to nokia page continuously. Anyone know what is that prob? My firmware is unofficial PR1.2.

After flash back to PR 1.1.1, my phone can boot up edi. But cannot detect SIM card!!!! Haiz.... My sim card works fine in other phone, but it cant be detected in n900. Anyone know what is the problem? Thanks.

you cant reflash from PR1.2 to PR1.1.1 You will get an error receiving calls and sms cause the radio has been updated as well. there is a work around. Search on maemo.org

disabling "location" in setting does improve the battery life significantly..facebook widget also drains the battery aswell as the weather widget..because these widgets need to refresh to update..especially facebook..so,these refreshes consumes battery like mad..

i'm using zagg shield for both screen and body. It DOES reduce sensitivity and the screen feels very rubbery. i would suggest using zagg shield for the body and get a normal SP.

yup.. i tried zagg before.. not good for touch screen.. very rubbery feel so not smooth to scroll your fingers or the stylus... for body.. hmmm... just dun like it... ur phone now is shiny instead of matte feel...

any good video converter for me? the movies i downloaded are RMVB and it lags when i play it on N900. so i used FormatFactory to convert RMVB to MP4 but the file size doubles. from 500mb becomes 1gb plus...

hey guys, anyone has an issue with built IM? i have MSN Pecan.
sometimes when you type message and press Enter, the message disappears but at the same time doesn't show up in the chat log as well. this is very annoying as you dont know whether your msg was being sent or not. and sometimes i cant seem to receive replies from friend as well, any idea? and where can i download MSN(Haze)? To me i prefer to start clean. Even the hassle of reinstall one application at a time because future i seldom have bugs or hang problem

The screen protector was too much though. Yee haw, time for my first reflash, ek? hey there, with regards to your case, is it totally not able to upload/download package data at all? or rather does it happen intermittently? e.g. you're connected then it stops running after a while (msn disconnects, webpage not running), if you disconnect it and try to reconnect then it shows "no connections detected", but leaving it for like 5-10 minutes or a reboot would actually solve the issue... but then it goes back again.. i hope your reflash would resolve this issue. update here please. Reflash done, everything back to normal...
Weird, but considering the amount of thinkering I did on it, not surprising. Will now go step by step in trying to find out what actually went wrong. If it happens again, off to a trip to Maemo bugzilla to file my first ticket. Now planning on installing stuff but otherwise running the thing stock standard (read: no enhanced kernel and or OCing) for the next day or so. Imma thinking that I really did "starve" the N900 from enough voltage by using the "starving" conf lol. |

Free wor, have to pay kah? Forgotten where I downloaded from To make Mobile Hotspot work, what I do is first make sure internet already connected, then click "Start" button. Then it will prompt that cannot connect to blablabla, ignore it. Then wait for a while (maybe 5 or 10 seconds) and it will say something like "Started". |

Go to the camera and select Camera Mode (Usually listed as 'A' for Automatic on the Right hand side)
Camera mode for video should be at the bottom on the screen |

Just have the flasher app and eMMC/Firmware images close by when you tinker (to reflash when you muck up), and backup as much as you can. As for me, tinkering step by step, backup-ing all the way. Currently running stock kernel with some theming mods, no hildon-modified and it's funny how things are NOT as hairy as it was before. Phone app is behaving well (used to lock system in portait all the time), and the system is generally very stable with little by the way of slowdowns.. dont enable EXTRA TESTING anf EXTRA DEVEL in app manager..
last night i enable EXTRA TESTING.. and found three application update.. then i update them.. today morning.. the phone is died..damn irritating.. early morning brain not yet fully function then i have this honour gift to myself..i have sent it to store for repairing.. i have learn a lesson.. even EXTRA repository category i also not dare to download more.. :-( |

The screen doesn’t use a capacitive touchscreen like the iPhone so it doesn’t do multi-touch gestures like pinch to zoom. Instead it uses the same resistive touchscreens implemented in other Nokia phone models so it isn’t as responsive as the iPhone’s capacitive screen. The screen is quite a fingerprint magnet, often leaving lots of smudges and prints after each use. It has a generously large 800 x 480-pixel resolution, which gives the extra real estate needed to render full webpages. The N900 has a slide-out keyboard that comes in handy for text messaging and web browsing. Though the buttons are well laid out, they are densely packed into a small area so users with large fingers may have problems typing. The phone also features a pair of stereo speakers that are of decent quality for casual music listening and is sufficiently audible for taking calls on loudspeaker mode. The back houses a powerful 5-megapixel camera that takes both photos and videos. A nifty slide-out cover protects the camera lens when it is not in use and instantly activates the camera when opened. There’s also a little kickstand that holds the phone up on a flat surface at an angle which is useful when you want to watch videos on it. PROP IT UP: The N900 has a handy little kickstand to prop it up when you want to watch videos on it. In use The Maemo 5 operating system is the core of the N900. The first thing that struck us upon using it was just how different it looked and felt in comparison with the Nokia’s Symbian-based smartphones. The N900’s home screen is an entirely new environment that has been completely rehauled to be visually pleasing. It is a highly customisable environment that allows you to set your desktop anyway you like it to be. You can drop widgets, bookmark websites or create shortcuts to your favourite contacts across four panels that you easily switch between by swiping across the screen. The web browsing experience on the N900 is much improved and it delivers a browsing experience that very close to the desktop experience. The flexibility and compatibility of the N900’s default browser is quite astounding and it has full support for Adobe Flash. This means that visually-rich Flash-based websites are no problem for the N900. We loaded Facebook on the N900 and used it exactly as we would on a desktop, even as far as playing Facebook games like FarmVille on it. Another cool thing we liked about the new Maemo platform is how the N900 is able to integrate contacts from your phone address book with those online on your instant messaging client. This means you can pull up a contact and choose between calling, SMS or instant messaging them all within one simple interface. One drawback to the phone is its short battery life. With 3G turned on, the phone could just barely make it through the day on a single charge. Applications Applications for the N900 can be downloaded via the Ovi Store or application manager. However the catalogue of Maemo applications is still very limited. Though majority of applications are free to download, the Ovi Store lacks applications for Twitter or Foursquare if you’re into social networking. Sadly, the only two useful Maemo applications that are worth mentioning on Ovi Store are Firefox and Facebook. However the Facebook 'app' has pretty limited functionalities as it can only show you status updates and notifications. It acts more like a widget and you cannot update your own status or do anything else with it. The only game worth playing that is available on the Ovi Store is Angry Birds, which is ported from the iPhone. The drawback to the Maemo version of the game is that it is limited to just 21 levels and users will need to pay for additional levels. Conversely the iPhone version of the game has 63 levels available. There’s also noticeably lag on the Maemo version of the game though it does not impact the gameplay greatly. There are however a lot more applications you can download through the application manager, either via WiFi or 3G connection. Admittedly this alternative source for applications feels half-baked. There’s no way to quickly search through the catalogue for applications so you’ll need to manually scroll through hundreds of applications to find something you’re looking for. Though its application library spans a variety of categories such as games, multimedia and office productivity tools, the selection is rather limited with only a handful that are actually useful. Still, there are a few gems that can help customise your phone such as a WiFi switcher to turn your connection on or off as when needed; or a brightness adjustment bar on the status/notification menu to quickly access these basic functions. If you want to play games on the N900, there are also a few emulators that you can download for running Super Nintendo, Sega Master System and Amiga ROMs. Some of the useful applications preinstalled in the phone include an RSS reader for aggregating news from your favourite websites and a podcast download tool. The fact still remains though that the Maemo platform still has a long way to go in terms of apps before it can be a contender to the iPhone and Android. Perhaps with time more applications will populate the Ovi Store and there will be some actual killer applications for the platform. Great for music and videos We didn’t quite expect the N900 to be a phone for media playback but the default media player application does a very decent job. Within it you can access your music, videos and even stream live Internet radio. There are notable improvements to the music player in the N900 — not only does the player look better but it is also easier to find songs now that they are arranged by albums. The video player is really quite amazing as it supports a wide variety of formats such as MOV, WMV and AVI files out of the box, thus making it useful for watching videos. first of all, i thought it was run out of battery. i still can see the backlight. the green light when i fully charged. still the screen won come out. really f***. i haven't install any new program recently. lately, i'm using my n900 for call, internet and texting. no games, no video, no any program. today evening. suddenly, it won't come out. haihhhh. f***.

Hey guys,have been thinking bout getting this device.But I was just wondering- how does the touchscreen on n900 stack up to the 5800?I understand both are resistive,but is there a huge diff in terms of touch responsiveness between the two?Also the 5800 tends to heat up pretty bad when web browsing is used for long hours.Does the same applies for n900?

Probably some process hogging your N900, running at 100% all the time, or some process is on the Virtual/Swap Memory (which is super slow). If an app is loaded into swap/virtual memory, you'll notice great performance issue and possibly the screen will stop responding and you'll need to wait very long for something to happen. If your hildon-desktop has stop responding, you'll also face this issue or the desktop may have no respond. The leaked PR1.2 seems have better management on the hildon-desktop hang issue.Tips: 1. Try open your camera latch, and give it some time, the camera app will launch. 2. If you're stuck in an app, use CTRL + BACKSPACE to switch to multi-tasking screen, it may take a long time if the virtual/swap memory is used up and is trying to load from there. 3. Press the power button once and wait for some time might have some respond. If you just cannot wait, the last resort would be to take out the battery, but becareful as there is risk of data damage in case it's writing data. |

U can always get a wireless N router the range is further

I don't really use WIFI that much, as my laptop has been set to hog my home broadband with torrenting and downloads. The N900 stays in Packet Data mode most of the time. Plus the fact that the Battery Drain WIFI bug scares the shit out of me, and I reboot every time I get on and off WIFI.On a side note, it has been 2 days of relative stability here in N900 land. No crashes, no mess ups, no lock ups, no nothing - stock kernel IS stable, I have to give it that. But it IS slow sometimes, especially with heavy multi tasking. with N you might be able to get wider coverage, however the speed would be capped at G seems n900 is not N-compatible.
btw, just shared n900 with flickr and facebook, hopefully nokia came out with better camera firmware fix for better mobile uploads lol |

UPDATE: It seems that Hildon-Desktop doesn't really play nice with QBW. Locked up today due to QBW, icons cannot be tapped (and has never happened before lol). Haish.

i guess water spill. i remembered once my friends accidently knocked a glass of coke onto my phone. i thought it's perfectly fine. because i viewed the n900 water stress test. haha. then again. i don't know yet. my phone is currently on repair. will tell the price tonight after finish. |

when I try to connect to my home wifi,it asks for my Pre-shared Key What is that? :S I am unable to connect to my wifi to download all the apps Is there any other way to download apps into my N900 without connecting to the net? PLEASE HELP |

please add me to the N900 owner list too got my N900 from Lowyat Clareen. last month. working great and it is the best Mobile i ever had. compared with iphone 3gs and htc Legend and Omnia i have had. its the best multi-tasking monster. would beat any netbook tried using skype talking with client and doing online desktop sharing(client desktop showing). plus surfing net with no lag at the same time. video quality superb and sounds superb. with using DJ-BT headset S805 of Motorola. wireless can be connected within 5secs after connecting. seriously fast connecting speed. almost 3 weeks having this mobile. super satisfying |

basically, putting the "wet" phone into a rice container will dry out the device better than just leaving it. just make sure the phone is switched off after you "wet" it.

oh,
i would , the first thing take out the battery , remove the housing if it is removeable, use a hair dryer to dry out all the detached parts piece by piece REMEMBER dun assemble them back so soon as moisture might still be around the contact point area, esp the LCD leave the fon to dry for 2 days , then only assemble it back OR send it to the techinician |

guys, i installed fMMS and then removed it however, in the connection tab it always automatically reverts back to use connection MMS instead of my Diginet which doesn't transfer any packet data at all.
i went to settings and the Delete is greyed out;which means i can't delete it. may i know why and how to remove this manually? p/s: my wireless SSID however, is able to be removed though. |

Flash is quickly becoming the annoying midi music of today. If you're using Titan's kernel, there's a built in anti-crash mechanisme. If you reboot too often quickly after booting up, the kernel recognises this and resets the config to stock standard. Let the thing run a while and then reboot, this should clear the problem. Skyfire browser will provide Flash experience for Symbian and Android, and it's also coming to N900. Flash 10 will be officially available for N900 and Android OS. Not able to provide flash is a weakness, don't blame Flash when it's not supported. For those who doesn't want Flash, can choose to turn it off, or just go mobile version webpage. Adobe Flash is the main reason why people are going to N900(maemo) or Milestone(android). (they both fall in the same category yes?) since both will be getting 10.1 sooner or later so they are practically heading to the same destination. only Android is regarded being a Apple AppStore in disguise while n900 stays to its main selling point, the openness of "open". ya know what i mean. and these are the sole reasons the market is segregated into different users/communities.and why do you think Opera guys made Opera mobile for n900 as a hobby project on Maemo but not Android? and imagine what happens when 1.2 gets released with latest QT DSK, and with MeeGo (confirmed on n900), things are looking so bright in the future that i prolly need to get a pair of shades to cover me eyes. btw, Apple and Adobe business feud/rivalry has been there since long ago. did you know they used to be partners at some point last time? the reason of the break-up was unknown but anyone could've guessed it was due to disagreement on profitability/financial unjust issues. p/s: Andy why edited your post?? invalid facts ah? So flash is an un-needed overhead in that kind of multi tasking environment, unless it's an integral part of the site. And most mobile sites are SOOOOO stripped bare that there aren't even pictures, so that's a problem in itself... But all in all, yeah. I digress. Flash capability turned off is in the end far better than no flash at all and loads of excuses. But the "fans would believe part", well that is so true and so lol. After all, he did manage to sell loads of HUGE iPhones by calling it a tablet. It's Crazy Steve and his hordes of zombies after all. Downloading Opera now.
Been using Opera for windows for years.Exited to see whether the mobile version will have same function as desktop version. Too bad the Opera team don't want to confirm on whether there will be final version of Opera for Maemo.
