n900 can display chinese character natively...however, there is no "official" chinese input support yet for the time being even for the leak pr1.2 except those lucky ppl in hong kong/taiwan....

thanks for the info... a friend of mine said that he would get the N900 device immediately if it supports chinese input. Have to wait fo the pr1.2 then?

Hi all,

Just wanted to say that i just got back my AP N900 after 2 weeks of repair. Luckily under warranty. My right side speaker failed to function for no apparent reason. Search around the net and it seems that replacing 1 speaker unit cost about RM180 and mind you our N900 have 2 speakers. What a bomb.....

In this 2 weeks, i had to revert back to my Iphone 3GS in which i use for entertainment purposes. After using the N900 for some time now, i'm starting to dislike my Iphone bit by bit. Really missing 2 things though, websurfing and cpu speed (OC to 1Ghz).

Anyone of you guys having similar misfortunes as i am? Hope that it an isolated case...

Just found the time to upgrade to 1.2 via FOTA. I seems that i too was getting the same problem about the scrolling bar "glitch" or not running smoothly from left to right upon booting the N900. In my case, it wasn't permanent. Sometimes it's ok sometimes going "haywire".

1 solution then... Manual formatting both firmware + emmc. Problem solved. What ameze me was the rootfs. Total useable was about 108Mb worth.

Interesting enough was coincidently i managed to fill up my external mmc to 14Gb (full of new & fav movies), it seems the N900 shows a bit/slight drop in performance wise. It was back to normal though as i freed my mmc of 1.5Gb of space.

Anyone noticed this? or does this swap files takes in more than the needed 750Mb of cache?

Hi, may i know ur problem facing booting "Sometimes it's ok sometimes going haywire." did u mean sometime when rebooting that happen or every time u rebooting it happen like 2x or 3x when it go left right left. mine it not all the left right facing like "haywire" just within like 10x it go left right left maybe 2x or 3x it hapen but sometime almost all ...

another is do u think this is just a bug or it will effect device performance? what do u advice?

What i meant was out of 5 reboots, 3 was having the "haywire" effect. Each time the problem arose, it will continue until finish rebooting.
From my observation, it's just the scrolling bar bug issue. I googled around and it seems that this bug do happen to unlucky users using tthe FOTA update. Very odd indeed. I too was curious whether it had any performance effect. I even had my N900 overclocked to 900Mhz. Opened up to 15 apps simultaneously but no drop in performance was noted. I also played with Sygic GPS and DL some mp3 using wifi, still no problem risen.

As for me, an annoyance will be always be an annoyance. So i decided to manually flash my N900 firmware + emmc. For the sake of science, after finished flashing, did continuous x20 reboots. The scrolling bar "haywire" was never seen again.

My advice...? As i stated above, i don't like to see something "not right" with my beloved phone, so reflash was the only way out. You can leave it as it is as i experience nothing bad about it. smile.gif
