Common Kelvin White Balance Settings : 2500K - very strong orange tungsten light 2800K - strong orange tungsten light 3200K - yellowish tungsten light 4500K M6 - flourescent light (most flourescent tubes are green even though our eyes don't see it) 5500K - flash 6500K - daylight (or daylight-balanced flourescent light) 9900K - strong blue stage lighting or evening light
Xenon lighting is rare but that should be between 7000-9000K.
Whenever you enter a new situation that has different WB, just set your Kelvin WB again and test with one shot. You
should be able to do this with practice.
With the Sony A300 and A350, you can use Live View and see the effect of changing Kelvin WB... live!
M = Magenta G = Green 2500K = Blue 9900K = Amber
Take a picture. Supposing the picture is very Green, you need to add the opposite which is Magenta. If the picture is
too Blue you need to go closer to Amber. So if the picture is very blue-green-ish, you will need to go closer to 9900K
M9.
To prevent the built-in flash from appearing in pictures when in wireless flash mode, you can use any of these
methods, or a combination of them:
- use a darker aperture (e.g. F11) - use a lower ISO (e.g. ISO100) - use a shutter speed faster than your flash sync speed so that High Speed Sync is activated (e.g. 1/320th of a
second) - use a piece of exposed, developed negative film in front of your pop-up flash
Wan to ask.. Normally we purchase lens, got 12 + 6 month warranty if register online. If I buy using the SONY CARD. then I have 12 + 6 + 12 month warranty or just 12 + 12 month ?
If using SonyCard, you get 12+12 only (24 months warranty)

albnok: what does APO really means?
coz my el-cheapo siggy 70300 dun haf APO... last time i research wat is it actually.. from my understanding.....
the sensor capture the images in 3 different color RGB.. and each color has its own wavelength.. as it is in wave form... it travel at different speed to reach the sensor...
if ur lens dun haf APO correction... the image later on will looks like all 3 color fall not on the same spot.. easier to notice at newspaper ker... when they print the image different ink doesnt match the previous ink place..

alien gun is home made stuff to be paired with a flash .. not 70-200 + raynox .. and you cannot use 70-200 with raynox because raynox only support up to 67mm while 70-200 has 77mm .. damn weird if using 70-200 with raynox .. ..
about your last question, that why u need alien gun .. it will soften the flash and also give a good coverage of light ... ..

55-200 or 70-210 aka beercan combine wit raynox they dont fly...thats y must sabar
oo.. coz im actually purchasing the 75-300 later.. cod with someone.. 75-300 can combine with raynox?
Seng_Kiat: how come weird ah? info abit =P later i purchase wrong lens i hailat hehe
fyi, here is 70-200 which is badly needed by ryzan ...
why weird? because it is weird .. haha .. .. no la .. weird because if u can buy 70-200, why u cant buy a proper macro lens instead? .. raynox cannot be used on 70-200 because raynox only support up to 67mm diameter while 70-200 is 77mm ..

get a used 55-200...price shud be 400~500 only... if u can afford a 70200G, might as well buy SP90 liao..(for macro) If got more money to spend, u can try
Sigma 150mm f/2.8 or Sigma 105mm f/2.8..
it gives better MFD which is easier for bug shot so u dont scare them:) Tamron 90m f/2.8 at 1:1 MFD = 29cm Sigma 105mm f/2.8 at 1:1 MFD = 31cm Sigma 150mm f/2.8 at 1:1 MFD = 38cm Sigma 180mm f/3.5 at 1:1 MFD = 46 cm

err.... got wat i meant ar bro??
In simple non-technical terms, can just say the color reproduction is not vivid (i.e. quite pale) even if you bump up the saturation to the max. So, anything lens that touches near 300mm length it's best to invest in an APO, otherwise the lens should just stay in the dry box.
Guys, i just called Foto Miami.....they still out of stock for the 'Cobra'....it seems they have already ordered 1mth bt neva gets stock yet.....waaaaa.....i need a flash urgent! where else i can get it cheap ar? please sum one give sum suggestion!

if your reason to get an a350 is because of the 14megapixel, then I'd say, get the a300... you can use the extra money to get a flash... rite2?

Those who have 70-200 just need to buy a 77mm Close Up filter. A lot of books written by pros oso use the same thing. Scott Kelby is 1 of them.

original 1st hand set at shop can get: >> Sony A300 + 18-70mm F3.5-5.6 DT = RM18xx if the seller is trusted person... then go ahead la if u dun mind using 2nd hand set...
i dun really recommend u A350 coz the only different from A300 is the megapixel.. same sensor + everything.. which means same sensor but need to cater more pixels... a little bit of quality issue from noise yada yada yada... and also affect the speed..
oh..good idea..go for a new one or 2nd hand will do?
price diff between A300 n A350 is around RM400... save it to buy flash or new lens la.. if buy 2nd hand (as long as it still in almost perfect condition) then can save summore...
ps: trust me.. u need flash rather than new lens.. go for highest end flash if u can afford..!

aiyaa...that guy abit susah la...people offer him more also, he reluctant!...takpa lah...
aiya melv, some areas sell the flash at RM1100. Max cheapest i think from other areas maybe 1150. At times square below the sony center at bts theres a cam shop. Forget the name adi.. they offered be 1150. When i tell them i wanna pay cash, they say they can reduce the price abit more.
i think not worth it la if u buy 2nd hand for 920 with no warranty, or with a few months warranty. top up extra 100 can get NEW!! no one touch that baby before. I think i like to touch new stuff.. especially for flash.. If u talking about lens.. i no $$ to get new lens.. so touch 2nd hand lens also happy..

Sony 3Gs! 5 A900s in one TT (but no group picture, because the 4th A900 was still in the box and the 5th A900 came later.)
nickilala: The beercan is worth it. I like your umbrella shot, with the colors and everything!
mcline_007: Whoa, 0.5 seconds? You could use ISO400 and F3.2 and get 1/8s at least...
Braynumb: APO means that the lens has one or more apochromatic elements, which reduces chromatic aberration. Minolta and Sigma lenses have the APO designation but Sony lenses do not so you'd have to Google to find out if it does.
dingenius3: That is a genius description for APO!
Seng_Kiat: The Sony 70-300mm F4.5-5.6G SSM is a full-frame lens. It's half the weight of the Sony 70-200mm F2.8G SSM and subtle.
AlphaBeta: I kinda miss the whirring sound of the F42 - it lets you know that you need to give it a break (pump up ISO/choose brighter aperture). Also you kinda get the idea when the flash is ready.
syukur2931: Studio Zaloon will have it Thursday morning!
Kul | Mo0: We shall have another TT soon - this time somewhere PJ or Hartamas lah. Sights to see? A850.
amadeo: Please update the price list!
Sony A850 body only - RM61xx (well, until the price is stable we update again since it's not exactly out yet)
lildaredevil906: Black = marushin.
finalfantasty: The Sony 50mm F1.8 DT SAM is sharp wide open. The depth of field is shallow, though.

Wow the 3gs sure is huge. i can roughly imagine why d vg can really help when goes with such a big lens.. sure tired holding it vertically without the vg
Seng_Kiat: That is certainly DRO's effect! (Which is why we keep saying, keep DRO off unless you are outdoors and shooting ISO200...)
Try this in Photoshop. Load this picture, adjust levels and change the middle slider from 1.0 to 0.72. Then edit Hue/Saturation/Lightness, pick the Reds channel, set Lightness to +48 and Saturation to +25.

ah damn it .. .. it was off before but why today my hand gatal to turn it on at level 3 . damn it .. damn it .. ..
so conclusion, DRO cannot be used at all for this kind of shoot? only use when outdoor? right? ..

50mm1.8 really not bad? I saw previously someone said that the picture taken by this lens is not sharp is wide aperture. And i'm thinking of buying this lens or Minolta 50mm f1.7
iinm all 50mm at wide open are not that sharp ler... need to be step down a bit at least 1 stop...

yea clive, it'll be cool to meet and learn from ya
aiya melv, some areas sell the flash at RM1100.
If u talking about lens.. i no $$ to get new lens.. so touch 2nd hand lens also happy..
ya, the other when i survey in lowyat and sg.wang plaza....got few shops offer RM1100....but looks like the diffuser hard to get...anyone know where to get diffuser for the cobra...???

hey guys, just a quick question. I am deciding to get an Alpha or Canon. But not too sure? Any suggestion? Thanks.
You ask In Sony Alpha thread, you get Sony Alpha Answer... You ask In Canon Thread, you get Canon answer... best thing is, you go to any camera shop, and test out the cameras you're interested in, feel it's weight in your hand, it's feature, and function... then you can decide... don't just go for what other people say....
i am looking to buy a dslr and looking at the A300 vs A330. I read that the A300 although older model is much better than the newer A330....eg. A300 better built quality, better ergonomics and more direct button access as oppose to menu driven. Can someone advise on this?

i can say u r 99% correct.. LOL... haf u seen A300 n A330 before?
for me... i hate how they layout the function/button... even though their menu is better now..
A330 quite light n smaller than A300... as for me A300 has better ergonomic coz my hand quite big la..
A330 not really a true successor of A300.. more like an upgrade of a pns camera...
Seng_Kiat: No problem! If you accidentally turn on DRO you can use similiar steps to reduce the DRO effect. When you adjust the middle slider in Levels to a darker level, it has a nice side effect of reducing noise.
i tak pernah buat postage.. if u want, let me know which service u prefer (registered), and i'll quote accordingly..
RM5350 + postage... but full payment before i can send.

usually i set DRO to level 1 or 2 max... even for indoor shooting at ISO400... and adjust levels in lightroom...
DRO >3 not advisable at all for indoor shooting...

go try it out both bro...
for me, I tested out the a230... honestly, I fell in love with the weight... holding it in my hands were quite nice... so, for me, the weight and design is ok... but I haven't gone into the functions yet, so, I'm not quite sure if I want to comment on it yet... but weight and hand test wise, I'm ok with it... but somehow, not too sure about it being suitable when I want to mount any 70-200 lens on it...or any big sized lens on it... just afraid I might break the damn thing...
might get it for my wife though... then can share with her the the 18-55 SAM lens... hehehe... somehow fell in love with the lens's IQ... quite nice... can't wait till the SAL2875 comes out... wanna check out the price... if it's cheap enough, will be in my shopping list next year...

I have try both out before but not at the same time. Anyway, its my first time foray into the slr world so I am not to sure the difference. What i do know is that i prefer more manual button to access features rather thru menu, and i hate picture noise, and i want fast performance(no more PNS), if possible HD video mode.
if you want HD video mode, then don't bother going for either a300 or a330... coz neither has it... if you want more manual buttons, get the a300.. picture noise wise is easier... stay below ISO800 with any camera...

those are my $0.02... hehehe...
Is there anything similar to the A300 in performance and price that offers HD video recording too or do i have to pay significantly higher price just to get video recording? I am really interested in the Panasonic GH-1(not sure i got the model correct) but i heard its really expensive.
Honestly, none of the Sony Alpha cameras have HD Video recording... None that I know of la... if you seriously want to get camera's with HD Video, then you can try some of the newer Nikons or Canons... most of them have HD Videos...

Ok...but those Nikons and Canon with HD movies...are they much more expensive or same price range? Any particular model?
The reason I wanted the A300 is because its of its price which is about RM1900 now.
not sure what's the price... but should be around 2-3K++... can check out the price here wcs2798's Thread... for reference la... coz somehow, it's a bit more expensive for us here in Sarawak.

now more confidence in shooting ISO400-1600... before this ISO200 only,,,
Same problem with me for d first few months i got my A100... i only shoot at iso 100-200... then 400 (most commonly use)... then 800 when no choice... 1600 used ONCE or twice only. then realise.. arr.. it doesnt fullfill my need ... TIME TO CHANGE TO A700 !! hehehehe then hopefully iso 800-3200 will b useable.

That is exactly what i think of. I don't really like flash photography. I would prefer using natural light. To me great photography is more creativity than the hardware itself.

can anyone tell me is it due to sigma color? or really my PP style...i'm now outside the original file of the jumper shot is not with me now...can only compare when i back.
thx...and sorry for the pic spam
not sure about sigma's color... never used sigma lenses before... but this image is a bit better color la... hehehe... but still got contrast issue... but nice...
is really very personalise le.. no right or wrong. some ppl like vivid colour (poster advertising style) some like .. japanese/Taiwan mtv style.. Desaturated greyish tone... Some like as accurate as wat our eyes see... most important is.. UR client happy.. if not shooting for money.. then URSELF happy Btw ZALOON HVING 850 oredi... who's d first to get it???!!
Its nice to spend when u have the money. Now I am jobless and flunked an interview. So, I have to wait for quite some time before I can get that a850 lol.

The depth of field is shallow, though.
hey bro, did you get my pm on the Sony Accessories? most important is the LCS-SC20 bag... I'd go for a850 too... hey albert, do you know anywhere in KL that has stock for the Sony LCS-SC20 bag?
sorry bro, I cannot make money from low priced accessories sale.. items above 3k i still can make a small profit, coz very tough competition out there, and i want to give the lowest price...
But 1 thing la. On APS-C you really must get used to 90mm for portraits la. For me even 50mm abit tight sometimes. Different people different preference la.

Sig, how much did u get it for?? Will be in Pav tomorrow, may drop into Sony Style there.....
How is the IQ?? Is it better than having 2 lens (as u are letting go yr kit lenses)??
Deciding if to get the 18250 + 50mm to replace the lens kits (1870 and 55200), care to share yr exp??
the IQ is definitely better... and 50mm f1.8 is a nice portrait lens..so go ahead..make sure u get the street price instead of the sky high retail price of Sony.

i bought a used one.. so it's pretty cheap la
from my exp (be informed that i only have this lens bout 1 week so haven't fully tested it yet properly), the IQ is sharper than the 1870 on the wider side.. but on the tele end, it's about the same as 55200.. and u'll get an extra 50mm reach with it.. also it eliminates the hassle of changing lens..
it also have internal focusing and so u'll get a petal hood.. really handsome one (if that really matter to you )
18250 and 50mm is a nice combo.. so far it really works for me.. UWA is a bonus.. so i can cover 11-250mm with just 2 lens

Any idea what is the street price?? wcs2798 was selling it a RM490, now its RM500...
You mean get both the 16105 and 50mm f1.7 from u???
Any comments on the IQ between the Minolta 50mm and the SAL50mm??
no la...i won sell my 16105...as i love it...only selling 50mm
i previously own a 18200, but not 18250 b4...i know 18250 is sharper than 18200, but i after using 18200 for travel, i feel that i seldom use the tele end but use the wide end more..
16mm is very nice to use...u can see my travel blog (like under my sig) all using 16105 and 50mm mainly for food.
i din own a SAL50 1.8 b4, so i cannot compare the color

Cool... was using a Fujifilm S100FS, loved the 28-400mm (35mm equiv.) zoom. Now getting used to the hassle of changing lens when i need to get closer, and still find it not as close to the 400mm in the past.
Was contemplating on getting a 2X tele-converter, doesnt that double the zoom of the 55200 to 400 (or 600mm in 35 mm terms)?? But am concerned about the IQ if adding the 2X, any sifus here tried it???
I know the 50mm is very good, but UWA in which lens?? With 0.45X adapter??

adding a tele-conv will also multiply the maximum aperture by that ratio as well... eg. on a F4.5 lens, adding a x2 tele conv will make its max F at F9
an UWA is normally refered to 10-20, 10-24, 11-18 range lenses

never tried TC before.. so can't really comment on that.. well, one of the best thing about DSLR is that the ability to change lens actually.. i still need to change for 50mm and UWA sometimes.. but like i said, i'm looking for a travel/walkaround lens.. also, i want that extra 500mm for my raynox

i had a hard time to decide which 1 to go for.. i spent like 15 min holding 18250 and 16105 at the counter. thinking which 1 to go for... until they pull down their gate to give me a hint that they are going to close

hmm... Clearing old stock will not be applicable to alpha product at JB SONY STYLE.. not much item there except those display set la.. A850 is not OLD stock mah.. haa
Oh ya.. Achew, ur fren get u the 2470Z. They have ex-stock there? surprise...

what u can do, if u really wanna flash, have your back facing a nearby wall, then twist the flash facing backwards away from the baby towards the wall bouncing the light back at the baby... gives a much better wrap than using diffusers

u hv no choice but to use the pop up flash to trigger wireless flash.. What i do usually is to decrease the power of pop up flash to minimun... then use my hand to block d popup flash. most of the time i find the pop up flash undesireable needed... so i do tat. giving the subject a more dramatic lighting effect from the F42 itself

Added on September 11, 2009, 2:35 amfinally i got time to upload the pics from the TT to fb =P..
So heres what i learnt from the TT. Most of the people already know this, but this info actually helps the new user.. Someone like me who is new, stepped into the dslr world not knowing i need to purchase all these stuff.. If i known this earlier, i get a PnS can adi.. .. o well.. since i fell in love with alot of lenses during the TT, no way in hell im moving back to PnS cams.. i like lenses..
So, below is an example of my food with the built in flash and an example with moo's f58 cobra. All pics upload to FB then transfered here.. lazy to put into photobucket.
Here is a pic with the built in flash, sry ah.. messy eater..

you know who's selling the toilet bowl? i want ler...
50mm on apsc memang sempit kekeke... can't deny that it is sharp, but also noisy when focusing..
tetiba rasa cam nak jual pulak.. beli flash kekeke...
maybe I should be more creative in composing using this prime
which is exactly why i'll stick to the Sigma 30mm f1.4 for portraits, if i had the money for it.
