@Lineage,
Amex cards are now issued by MBB so shouldn't be much difference; those Amex, Amex cards are basically the ones without the Maybankard logo on it |

QUOTE(alexwsk @ Jul 6 2009, 12:09 PM) SCB JustOne, 2% on normal day, 5% every Friday, rebates up to max of RM600/yr I have a method and it works! for petronas, esso & mobil, can us at the pump, for the rest need to go to the counter and swipe the only bad point is at most of the place, need to teach the cashier to press Enter or Select to select the Cr feature I put a small sticker with a note "choose CR" on the card. Transactions went through smoothly without saying anything to the cashiers. |

i think it's easy to default towards the notion that "low income earners are not encouraged to carry credit cards"... saying so, does not allow us insight to the root cause(financial discipline) as opposed to merely brushing the symptoms(low income)..
having a low income doesn't automatically associate it to reckless spending impulses (on the contrary, i suspected that high income earner tends to display more frequent inability to control their spending) a "purpose" is something good to start with.. what fylon stated is his purpose of having a credit card, which i think are both pragmatic and prudent.. here's a thought for all of you.. other commercial providers are keenly eying this electronic money.. credit card has its history in this area(electronic money, in the form of unsecured credit) in great precedence.. however, other modes of electronic money are not relenting.. providers such as octopus(hk), m-money, etc.. they're emerging towards the lower value, but potentially mass volume business.. when the ability to pay for any daily mundane stuff from parking, toll, transport rides, tickets, food, postage, utilities, etc... the utility-reach of such facility is tremendous. will this be a potential threat to credit cards? (which may be rendered to some occasional high value purchase.. that remains "occasional"?). what do you guys think? this is relevant as the credit card providers are doing something about it.. via near-contact payment system (e.g visa wave) but the setup can be costly to the merchant.. so you don't see them readily available everywhere yet. QUOTE(Lineage @ Jul 6 2009, 10:37 AM) UOB one cards only gives you rebate at BHP petrol if not mistaken. Yes, you can consider MBB Petronas card. Like I mentioned, you can consider Direct Access or Standard Chatered Bank Just One where they give rebate for ALL petrol stations. Another option is Public Bank Day2Day Debit card where they have 1% rebate for groceries and petrol. QUOTE(fylon @ Jul 6 2009, 10:42 AM) Hi guys, just another quick question from me. yah, somebank allows you to pledge you FD for CC limit even if you do not qualify for minimum income. Can't really remeber but I think HLB smartlink account allow you to do so |

For petrol purchase at Shell, you need swipe the cc at the counter and ask the cashier to select Cr function. I've tried this and the rebate is reflected in my online statement. |

Yes. It is possible. Have heard people doing so with Public Bank and recently AMBank. QUOTE(patricktoh @ Jul 6 2009, 07:34 AM) Future trend is the banks are gonna abolish Gold Card and Platium to fill the gap. Credit limit is just a line a facility bank given to you & remember its interest rate can rival Ah Long on the streets. Agreed. Just a matter of time i guess. Just like in Singapore and United States, Classic and Gold Card are almost obsolete. Co-branded cards and Platinum cards are the norm. And the good thing about the co-branded cards offered by banks in the United States is that most of them are annual fee free and the credit line is comparable to Platinum credit card.QUOTE(lwb @ Jul 6 2009, 11:24 AM) but something in me says that.. differentiation will always be there, in it's root, it's a marketing strategy.. (you can't "see" credit limits, you can't "see" benefits in its intangible forms.. so somehow it has to be manifested physically.) Agreed. Believe in a few years time we will see more co-branded credit cards (EON Bank have many types of co-branded credit cards) and Platinum credit card will become the entry level for fresh applicant. We might also see more banks introduce VISA Signature, VISA Infinite, World Mastercard and World Mastercard Elite.This post has been edited by MilesAndMore: Jul 6 2009, 02:49 PM |

If I dont pay my outstanding balance in full but I keep paying the minimum monthly payment, do you think it will affect my loans prospect in the future ? |

Better to pay all outstanding balance before you apply for other loans so that you have a clean record. Otherwise they might use the owing as a rejection. Besides paying minimum per month will incure miscelenous charges, finance charges, other charges until KEPALA PENING case.
If you have bad debts in any account for example cheque tendang case or too many cards outstanding balance, the inter banks also can check your status one. My friend kena like this la, he finally obtain a personal loan from another bank to settlle some of the debt. He now still got 20k plus to deal with. I always settle my outstanding within 20 days allowed timeframe so that I don't kena interest. This is just my view and not suitable for everyone else.
