Do any of you guys ever experienced a faulty chip with your credit card(s) ? My 15-month old CIMB Mastercard has recently gone dead and i am pretty sure it is due to faulty chip. The credit card processing terminal can't no longer detect the card. As far as i know, most banks are charging RM50 for every card replacement and according to CIMB, the first one is RM10 then subsequent replacement (includes misplaced or stolen) is RM50. Do i need to go to a nearest CIMB Bank branch to get a replacement or just by calling them up will do ? And is there a way to get them waived the card replacement fee ? Thanks in advance tongue.gif

RM40000/pa if my memory serves me correctly. OCBC Malaysia has one of the lousiest website of all the retail banks in Malaysia.

2. SCB. JustOne. Rebates, rebates, rebates.  I can't think of any other reason. Plus, you can use their online facility to pay bills and have it charged to your credit card. Number of payees almost similar to CitiOnline system and more important have the major bills. (e.g. TM, Celcom, Maxis, TNB, Syabas)
Agreed. They have improved a lot in this aspect.

I believe this applies to CIMB Bank Mastercard holders as well ?

QUOTE(Dannyl @ Jun 25 2009, 10:39 AM)
So far I've not seen any retail merchants which offer special discounts for SCB and Alliance, unlike the other banks.
And the other banks are Maybank and CIMB Bank. These two have lots of promotion year round with CIMB Bank having the most discount. I guess CIMB Bank really take their credit card business seriously.

QUOTE(Michael_G @ Jun 25 2009, 10:45 AM)

Certain branch do open for business on Saturday. Please refer to their website.

3 months. Yes.

QUOTE(inuyasha88 @ Jun 25 2009, 02:26 PM)
yesterday received a call from scb regarding my justone, told me that they just received my application... but i submitted last week... today is exactly 7 days after i submitted... omg, so efficient...
*
This could be because the delay from the courier company or they only ship your application form to their HQ just before the weekend. There are a number of reasons ... the fastest way is to fax it directly to their credit card centre.

QUOTE(he-sham @ Jun 25 2009, 02:31 PM)
yerp...if i'm not mistaken HSBC amanah & SCB Business cash rebates are unlimited....no cap...
HSBC Amanah MPower Credit Card-i has no cap. 1% cash back for overseas spending and only applicable to HSBC Amanah Platinum MPower Credit Card-i holder only.

Factor in the admin fees for overseas spending and the 1% cash back is now negated to just 0%.
As least you can save on the 1% admin fee. Other banks such as Citibank gives you 2 points for every Ringgit charged (Standard Chartered gives 3 Choice Points/RM1 for Platinum and 5 Choice Points/RM1 charged in foreign currency). It is more or less the same.

QUOTE(winner @ Jun 25 2009, 08:47 PM)
They do have special promotion for some merchants. In fact they seldom advertise in the newspaper and only send out brochures to their existing customers together with monthly statements.
Still too little. A far cry compared to CIMB, Maybank, AMEX, Citibank and even HSBC.

Too much orange though sweat.gif

QUOTE(Dannyl @ Jun 26 2009, 10:44 AM)
Having 2 cards is also good for retail discounts.  Example: You have CIMB and HSBC cards.  When eating at Dragon-i, use CIMB for 10% discount.  When eating at Amarin Thai, use HSBC for 15% discount.
*
CIMB Mastercard will entitle you for 10% or 15% when you dine at Amarin Heavenly Thai smile.gif While AMEX gives you 15% or 20% discount (couldn't remember how much exactly).

QUOTE(cute_boboi @ Jun 26 2009, 11:48 AM)
Anyway, it is still best practice to carry 2 CC from 2 different providers.
Couldn't agree more.

Most likely you will be rejected but no harm trying. Another to geta credit card is by deposit some time deposit into the bank you want to apply a credit card.

Thanks for the reply bro. Oh yea.. I do have a fixed amount of  saving in my MBB SA.

A fixed savings doesn't count. it need to be time deposit aka fixed deposit.

I had asked information for quite a few bank, so far only found MBB has the highest minimum income requirement. The rest were around 18k then can apply already. I'm actually looking for a card that offer good rate of cash & petrol rebate. laugh.gif

Give CIMB Classic Mastercard a try. CIMB has many partner merchants and lots of discount year round.

Or you can put some time deposit into the bank and then apply for one. However, you must be AT LEAST 21-year-old.

You can try with Public Bank or AMBank. Open a time deposit account with RM10,000 and you can apply for a Gold Credit Card with a credit line of RM10,000.

QUOTE(winner @ Jun 27 2009, 11:37 AM)
Whatever interest rates, to me, is meaningless. For people who ensure full payment is done before the due date like us, the so called "lower interest rates" never benefit us. I'd rather be awarded with more cash rebates and reward points.
Agreed. And hopefully more banks will offer cash back credit card. Cold hard cash is way better than some stupid point. Not to mention those banks can save on courier fee too.

Yes.

By the way guys, i was at Hong Leong Bank website just now checking out the range of credit cards offered and found that Hong Leong Bank is offering up to 2% cash rebate for their Platinum cardholders on top of the RM1 = 1 Reward Point system. Any idea how does the 2% cash rebate works ? Is it something like Alliance Bank credit card ?

What ? Thought HSBC Classic/Gold VISA/Mastercard are identical in design ? Or you are talking about HSBC Amanah VISA ?

By the way guys, CIMB Bank has introduced VISA Infinite yesterday. It will give cash rebate instead of point. 0.5% for local spending and 1% for overseas spending. This is nothing special really as it is identical to HSBC Amanah Platinum VISA.

Standard Chartered Singapore is now issuing complimentary VISA Infinite to their Priority Banking customers. Believe Standard Chartered Malaysia will follow suit soon.

I changed my card due to crack (at the magnetic strip area)
Mine too !!! Just last week i complained that the chip no longer can be detected (tried it at several different places) but surprising the CIMB CDM can still read the card when i went to make the payment 3 days ago. Thought the card's good to go now but guess what ? Once the card's out there's a crack on the right near the magnetic strip vmad.gif

QUOTE(hye @ Jun 30 2009, 10:41 AM)
UOB is very rather weird about PIN replacement either. Their system seems can't generate a new PIN without cancelling your old card. Folks who lose their UOB PIN beware ... the bank may charge a fee for PIN replacement.
Same with HSBC. Had the same problem with their ATM card a while back. Was told they couldn't reset the password and they have to cancel the old ATM card and issue a new one. Assume it is the same for their credit card.

Anyway, you can cut the mag-stripe at near edge corner away (e.g. 5mm each way) and the card might still be readable normally. The data is mainly kept in more centre portion about 60-70mm of the 86mm full length.

The crack is 2cm long. I guess it's time to put it to rest for good biggrin.gif

Dunno about this coz actually SCB Malaysia can issue Infinite to their customers but need to maintain a RM300K deposit with them. I find this slightly outrageous coz they just raised the qualifier by RM50K from the initial RM200K.
*
RM300k makes sense actually, since in most other countries the entry level is ... erm for example Citibank Thailand, HSBC Thailand and even Standard Chartered Thailand require you to have THB3 Million (about RM300k) in deposit with them to qualify for Citigold/Premier/Priority Banking.

Citbank/HSBC/Standard Chartered Singapore entry level is SGD200K (about RM490k)

Citibank/HSBC/Standard Chartered Hong Kong entry level is HKD1 Million (about RM460k)

Citibank/HSBC/Standard Chartered Taiwan entry level is TWD3 Million (about RM300k)

Just to compare only lah sweat.gif So i won't be surprised if one day all the foreign bank in Malaysia raise their entry level to RM300k.

if the primary credit card is Citibank Gold Credit Card, so the supplementary card will be Citibank Gold Credit Card also? or can we choose other card like Shell Citibank Credit Card?

Supplementary card is meant for other people. If you apply for a supplementary card, it will be the exact version that you are holding as a principle cardholder.
