I guess the game in life is like that, it falls into stages, achievements and hierarchy in the society. Thats why we have levels in organizations, types of examinations (1st class honors, 2nd upper, 2nd lower degrees and etc). For example a piece of degree is just a plain paper with some scriblings on it but what matters is the core value of the contents of that paper.

I thinks same here for these plastic cards. It mirrors your status in the society. Some of us can get Platinums very easily and we critisice every bit of loopholes there maybe. BUT to some people they tried very hard to get their application approved otherwise.

The 30k credit limit is just a standby monetary sum in case I need to use the $$$ urgently but I always know my boundary. When I go Genting casinoes, I always leave my credit card at home and just bring few grand of cash to have some fun.
Itv is very inconvenient to carry 30k of cash compared to credit line.

Firstly, I feel happy for you on your recent upgrade. Plat cc is very common nowadays as banks tend to give a higher CL. In my opinion, Plat cc has nothing to do with social hierarchy or status achievement. A lot of qualified forummers here still hold SCB Titanium and Amex Gold while they are more than qualified to get Plat, due to better benefits. Some of us are only willing to get Plat if the benefits are similiar or better than what offered by Gold.

Besides, 30k CL is just considered below average of general CL of Plat, which starts from 20k depending on banks. Also, holding a Plat cc doesn't mean that the CL is higher than others. For instance, the CL of my SCB Titanium is above 100% higher than my other Plat cards. But I don't even need to have such a high CL as I only need to spend 15k per annum to get AF waived.

In addition, nobody knows my CL except my loved ones. Higher CL could result in high risk. Another example, my friend's relative was robbed while having holidays in a third-world country. He was forced (with knife pointed his waist) to withdraw RM20k from his cc. This incident can happen in our country too. We have to be extra careful not only with cash, but also cc.

@zazaza2009,
Whilst it's nice to walk around in a Platinum card, U may want to be v careful with it. CCs can put u into a lot of trouble (but as U have pointed out, you know your boundaries) - I honestly do NOT know what HLB was thinking in giving you RM30k CL when your annual income reported was RM60k. Personally, I think it's wrong of the bank to do so but since it's been approved, enjoy it biggrin.gif

Also, HLB will soon be giving you extended CLs - and when this card has reached his first year mark, feel free to start your own Platinum collection.

What Gen-X was trying to say is that most of us here doesn't see CC fulfilling our "Social Needs" (Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs) hence we look to benefits more. It could be different on your end but honestly, if ur friends only wanna be your friends cause U got a Plat, these friends are better off not having tongue.gif

@winner,
UOB by far is the most kedekut. I believe they start out at RM15k CL for the Plat holders tongue.gif U of course get to accumulate and since I don't use that card often, I've capped a CL on that one biggrin.gif

Banks are chasing easy loans now, lending has pretty much dried up. Also they look at your bank balance and actual net value. If your salary is 60K, but your total net worth is a million or more, I'm sure they would be more than happy to send you a plat smile.gif

A lot of wasted money though, but hey, some people have spent more on their hobbies.

Now if they only wanted to be your friends 'cos your salary was high, that would be different biggrin.gif (j/k)

Wow, "Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs", sound like Diploma level Business Management semester 1 stuff...hahahahaha. All I know today is Ronnie O'Sullivan, Roger Federer, Christiano Ronaldo.

Thanks for all your replies everyone. rclxms.gif

I obtained the HLB Plat without applying for it. It was sent as an upgrade. I guess my 3 apartments in Penang loan were from HLB. After I paid all the mortages (melangsaikan hutang) for the apartments, they still want to do business with me. From time they also send OD worth 20k and 30k for me, but I flushed them away.

Just now I went shopping at Queens Bay Mall, HSBC got promotion for VISA Infinite. What is the min quali for this card? I didn't have time to ask them.

I agree that one can be rob off with their money. Penang is not a safe place. rclxub.gif

Thinkerbell, " honestly do NOT know what HLB was thinking in giving you RM30k CL when your annual income reported was RM60k.", you mean my quali is a bit lower than the min quali for the card pplication? Well I think laws and procedures are just sets of rules....plain human rules.

For some getting the PLATINUM card is like getting a piece of nice meat in world war 2. So no matter what the credit limit is, I still will be happy. I do not require that much of money in life.

tq.

Are you sure it's HSBC VISA Infinite ? I checked their website and there is no mention of this card. The highest level of VISA HSBC offers is VISA Platinum. The HSBC VISA Platinum is black in color. Like the design very much tongue.gif

Just observing and wanted to point out something. For the guy who mentioned "Why is HLB giving you 30k limit Plat when your annual income is 60k". I was laughing at this statement dude! Annual income does not represents a person's "value". He might have few hundred k's sitting in FD or other assets which you can't see on the "surface" Only the banks knows how much your risk and worth. You might be earning 100k per annum but if you have no assets/savings = it equals to 0. smile.gif

Just so you know. It is a "SHE", not a guy. I'm pretty sure she knows better than most people. Just that this totally slipped of her mind i guess biggrin.gif She's like a veteran in this whole credit card thingy.

Care to scan it and post the picture here ? I have not seen it drool.gif

Anyway, i managed to find two HSBC cards issued by HSBC Private Bank. One is a credit card and another one is a debit card. The debit card i found is called VISA Infinite and issued by HSBC France Private Bank. Not sure if it is the VISA Infinite Reventon was talking about though.

The black color card is a credit card issued by HSBC Private Bank while the blue color (HIDEOUS) is a Premier Mastercard issued by HSBC Premier Banking centres exclusively to HSBC Premier customers (except China as a black color Premier Unionpay debit card will be issued instead of Premier Mastercard)

And here is another VISA Infinite credit card i just found. Issued by HSBC France (or HSBC France Private Bank). Most likely the VISA Infinite Reventon was talking about. Click the link below.

Opps. You beat me to it. Was modifying my previous post just now. Anyways, i found the VISA Infinite credit card version too. Also issued by HSBC France or HSBC France Private Bank tongue.gif The annual fee for this card is 315 €/pa (roughly RM1545/pa).

I have been private message by err...forgot his name. reminding me that my PLAT is not free unless swiped 2 times per month.

Common, wake up la, 2 times only la, not 200 times per month. Furthermore the swipe is in ANY amount, be it rm50 per swipe for my MyVi or RM80 for my VIOS. I had to do groceries shopping easily beyond rm400 per month. Other enterainment expenses like movies, astro, computerv gadgets, hobbies, restaurants I have never included to be mentioned.

The term free to me is trully FREE because it is 24 swipes per year and 2 swipes per month is NOT compulsory. The swipes will be totalled up in the 12th month. If not met then rm388 annual fees will be imposed. The rm388 is not really a big amount la.

To me what tinkerbel mentioned was not incorrect because zazaza2009 mentioned that his/her income was just above RM60K (please note income does not mean salary, it can be from royalties, rental, dividens, etc) and did not elaborate further;moreover, getting a Plat was like such a big thing to her/him (i.e. sign up as LYN member this morning to tell us he/she had obtained a Plat card).

zazara2009 also failed to mentioned in her/his earlier post about her/her business relationship with HLB, and like I mentioned HLB valued his/her business and thus not surprising upgraded his/her CC to Platinum which is simply a marketing strategy to keep her/his CC account as most of us here knows that HLB CC benefits are just so so.

Moreover if one got RM200-300K or more in FD with a bank, the bank would have issued a Plat CC to her/him long ago.

Huh...what was the thing you were trying to say? Other people have gold card with CL higher compared to yours, so what does this mean?

Once again what does you owing 2 compact cars have to do with CC?

What I can tell you is that you getting nothing with HLB CC for pumping petrol. Better you go apply a non Plat card that gives you 2% to 5% rebate for petrol.

this zazaza2009 isn't smart in financial matters..

i wrote and explained to him regarding his card, which obviously wasn't exactly "free", as he knew almost next to nothing about terms and condition associated to that "free"

his reply was a total whack and thus make me realized that his excitement is simply "shallow" and lack of substance..

it's nice of you to brag about it here.. being smart with money doesn't equal to no money.. so pinhead, i can swipe 2,000 times/month or i can swipe 0/month.. now.. that's what free means, ok?

@wodenus,
Yeah I meant with! tongue.gif And just cause I teased you on your holiday U don't need to be mean with to me tongue.gif

@zazaza2009,
Yes rules are set by humans and can be broken. I'm not going to add much more to what I've oredi said and as long as you're happy then it's fine.

@Fala,
Yes you're absolutely right. However, if U have a few hundred K's sitting in the bank, the banks would have offered you complementary Platinum cards long time ago. There's no need to brag about getting a Platinum card here.

@MilesAndMore,
Thanks! But nolah, me not veteran sweat.gif

@Gen-X,
Yes! My thoughts exactly. Thank You! sweat.gif

tinkerbel,

glad you remembered.. but it shouldn't be important, less it's hindering to your daily life.. besides, i think the wildcard here is probably bkt jelutong.. there's this thing about municipal councils.. mbsa has its way of running the place which may not be exactly compatible to everybody..

give you a call? well.. you want to talk for another 1.5hrs again ah?

Future trend is the banks are gonna abolish Gold Card and Platium to fill the gap. Credit limit is just a line a facility bank given to you & remember its interest rate can rival Ah Long on the streets.

So use it wisely.
