"If you move a hotel, you will lose up to 80 per cent of your birds.”

….  I do prefer it to be refer to as swiftlets sanctuaries or just Bird House and not hotel………..as we didn’t provide any services to the swiftlets
And most importance of all,  if we move, we are as good as closed shop and finished.

How do we get just one swiftlet to follow us to the agriculture land.......pls advice me.........as I am blurred and confused by the statement of losing 80% of my birds if I move......all the birds, I assured you, my friends...........

With exception of the one in my pant; last sentence is a just for laugh and no offend pls.

rclxms.gif hehe.

I have studied some swiftlet reports and until today, these birds are seems very complex in the ecosystem and no confirmed data or method that swiftlet will follow the "instruction" as where we want they be...

i still thinking how we could send louder message to attract the attentions of the public.....

Totally agree with u. There is totally or 100% no way to move or shift any swiftlet to where we want them to go.......If any person or Govt Official ever suggests that, it shows either they are con-men, idiots or not fit or qualified to be in the position.......no need to give face or respect to such idiots......just whack and condemn them.....as they are asking for it......and deserve it...It is a 100% total loss including all future income to the owner if any idiot trying to shift any swiftlet.....

It is pretty much the same to the Johor AGM convenened recently. Thousands of members but with only 100+ attended. Either they used snail mail or they are only interested in Assoc SDN BHD...

building birdhouse in agricultural or remote area will face situation like the blog above . the destruction or killing of young birds .
does the authority know anything about bird ranching in the first place. kalau tak tau, belajar lah - pihak berkuasa tempatan. gaji dulu pun macam in, sekarang pun tak beza. tolong kami, kami tolong kerajaan juge. jangan jadi gangster lepas pakai uniform . pakai uniform bukan untuk tunjuk tunjuk.. dengar dulu dan bagi masa. jangan pandai pandai buat decision, beri peluang untuk semua orang , lebih senang jadi baik dari jahat.

Added on April 6, 2010, 12:12 pmI thought of organizing a tour or going to places where the swiftlet to the South and end up in Mersing. We can also take a look in Melaka which reported thousands of birds migratory etc...
anybody like to arrange tour there and share expenses on the travelling ? got anybody interested in this 3 days trip.

Bro hackwire, I'm not siding the authority but I find the above statement is quite provocative. Instead of making the people in authority agreeing to you, they will be even more anti BH.

I would like to quote Bro Lucas statement above and giving an example below when we lose our rights due to infringement of others rights. Public's rights always carry more weight when authority make decision concerning the public.

Swiftlet farming ban draws flak
By MUGUNTAN VANAR
newsdesk@thestar.com.my

KOTA KINABALU: A state Cabinet’s decision to ban swiftlet farming in major urban areas is drawing flak among entrepreneurs of the lucrative birds’ nest business.

Swiftlet farmers are arguing that health and environmental issues should not be the basis of the ban as tests and studies had shown that those birds were not carriers of diseases.

In fact, Sabah Swiftlet House and Birds’ Nest Industry president George Ng said the large presence of pigeons in popular Gaya Street was dirtier than birds found in organised swiftlet farms.

He said major cities like Ipoh and Johor Baru had not stopped such activities.

Thus, he said, there was no reason for the state to ban the industry in major towns like Sandakan, Tawau and the city here.

Ng wondered why the state decided to place a ban as the industry was still awaiting the federal government’s guidelines on swiftlet farming practices.

The state government announced the ban several days ago. State Resource Development and Information Technology Minister Datuk Dr Yee Moh Chai explained that the decision to ban birds’ nest farming in the three towns was partly because it was a public nuisance.

Meanwhile, Sabah Progressive Party questioned the alleged double standards of Kota Kinabalu City Hall for not acting against two birds’ nest farms in the Gaya Street area despite numerous complaints.

SAPP spokesman David Chong said City Hall had shut down similar farms in the Inanam area but refused to act against these two farms in the central business district here.

“The state Cabinet’s decision to ban swiftlet farming should be adhered to strictly,” he added.

CONGRATULATION !!!!!

After A survey done by all the local farmers , we have calculated that the total no of shoplot farms in the whole malaysia is at (As At March 2010)

130,000

Hurray !!!!!!!! rclxms.gif rclxms.gif rclxms.gif

We are only 20,000 short from OUR PM target of 150,000 farms !

Thanks to all the Good hearted and hard working Farmers, We had done it without any helps / assistance financially from the govt.

Bravo !!! rclxms.gif

While waiting for the so called 1GP to come out, we will be able to reach the target of 150,000 shoplot farms ...hopefully. We will try.

Thanks to all the farmers support of the local economy, all hardwares, contractors, workers, local coffee shops, transporters, and electricians are doing brisk buz and are smiling all the way to the bank.

some of our farmer friends also had converted their ground floor into farm after left idle for 10 years. They had reserved one area abt 10ft x 10ft in the front part of the shop and this they will rent it out for FREE to local poor residents that wish to start a small buz such as grocery or hp shop.

THIS IS VERY BRILLAINT idea !!!! We all should follow!!!...do it !!....

I would suggest a refrain from converting the ground floor to BH activities as you may face a backlash from the Local Authorities. I am not going to discuss the problems cause by the ground floor's conversion but all BH owners know it and if we stll persist an insist in doing so, GOD really need to help us this time if the Local Authorities take action.

I have more to gain by converting of ground floor to BH activities but I rather wait and see. We want a solution so that we can remain @ town and we are still not there. Wait for the GP, and then if it allow us to do so, then we are in safe hand otherwise, your BHs may be demolished before the GP become enforce...........be safe, stay safe or at least stay put until the Storm is over for sure.

Beware what lie ahead if you proceed, my friends................my true and sincere advice.

WHAT IS THE MOST TRUE AND GENUINE PUBLIC NUISANCE IN THIS COUNTRY AND WHY THEY ARE NOT SHOT BY FIRING SQUAD? mad.gif vmad.gif mad.gif vmad.gif

There are few coffee shops and night spots in major towns drawing big crowds operating till wee hours nightly. The crowds do cause a lot of nuisance disturbing the peace of the neighbourhood. There are thousands of motor cyclists get killed on the Malaysia roads yearly. Some involved killings of innocent pedestrians due to reckless, dangerous or inconsiderate riding of the motor cyclists. All these are considered public nuisances. So, is our Govt going to indiscriminately close down all coffee shops and suspend all motor cyclists from riding motor cycles in the country? Similarly, there are too numerous type of businesses and activities in one way or another do cause some nuisances either intentionally or unwittingly. Is the Govt just for all the convenience, going to declare under PUBLIC NUISANCE and close down all? The word PUBLIC NUISANCE covers very broadly and generally and it is nuisance that is really affecting the interest of the vast majority of the public, and then only is considered PUBLIC NUISANCE. It should not be anyhow misused.

A very fine and truly befitting good example that nobody dare deny and can definitely be declared under the PUBLIC NUISANCE is; as we, Malaysians including toddlers do know that there exists overwhelming corruptions, abusive of power, abuse of position, cronyism etc,etc in our many elected people representatives and senior Govt servants while executing their duty to serve the people seemingly. Such actions are indeed most gravely affecting the interest of all the citizen and the fate of the country and this wrong doing is in fact the most genuine PUBLIC NUISANCE. If this happens in China, the perpetrators found guilty are shot to death by firing squad in public. rclxms.gif thumbup.gif rclxm9.gif

Listen carefully, Political strategist's of Barisan Nasional, if u are here n if not the adviser of our beloved PM, pls forward this message to the yang berhormat.

130,000 shoplot farms equal to RM50,000,000,000.00 ( Minimum) of investment that ORDINARY Malaysians had fork out from their own hard earned money, some mean it is their only capital left.

RM50 Billions !!!!

from our survey, each farm in fact feed at least 20 family members! father, mother, grand father n mother, son's n their family, daughter's n her family.

THat is equal to 2,600,000 of Self Employed Malaysians that totally depended on it to SURVIVE.

if You want to destroy their rice bowls, u are putting 2,600,000 peoples into Unemployment and these peoples will not be able to find a job, will go bankrupt, will commit suicide, will turn amok!!!.

do you think you can afford to do that?

We are going to meet and we will reach the target of 150,000 shopfarms !!!

You may want to post the above @ PM Blog and all the ministers as well as all VVIPs ( Pro and Opposition) but then, as I see it, when come to Sarawak and Sabah, our PM or his key men aren't going to interfere for fear of offending them..........The BN need these two states support badly and can't afford to offend them. That's Politics and where is the affected State Swiftlets Associations and what's the Federal Swiftlets Association going to do or support ??????

As for your Target, I think we may have achieve it already as many do it secretly for fear of action from the Local Authorities. You also missed out the down stream maintenance and support groups which may also run into million raayat.

Added on April 11, 2010, 10:25 amA friend of mine told me that he is going to sell his BHs but the prices aren't cheap and his reasons for selling as follow.
1. Due to the uncertainty on the new GP and how it is going to affect him.
2. He travel regularly to Medan and found that the sky isn't black as before.

My opinions are that the first reason is logical because we realy don't know lie ahead and infact we even can't tell what is behind the door when we open it in the morning. Will the sky still be blue or will the sun still shine????
Should the Government give moral support to the industry, I believe that we will expand so fast and so successful that we can be 1Boleh, 1Birdnest and No.1 in the industry.

The second reason is wrong as what he saw in Medan is the same as what we saw in the cave @ Sarawak many years ago when the sky were filled with swiftlets rushing into the cave to roast .........overharvesting thus causing the decline in the population of the birds. Here, some complaint of lesser birds but as for mine and my friends, we are experiencing hugh increment of birds and maybe the birds are getting smarter and they sense who really care and love them and so they migrate to our sanctuaries i.e birdhouses. Or is it really God at work, helping the kind and sincere and neglecting the unjust and unfaithful ones. Omitofo

Just another fact for all to digest.

Termites cause millions of ringgit worth of damage in Malaysia every year.

When the rainy season starts, millions of termites sprout wings and fly off looking to start new colonies, especially in buildings that are built of wood.

Just this evening I thought it strange that a large portion of the swiftlets from my house were flying around when they would usually be roosting. I thought the worst, maybe there was a predator inside the house.

On closer observation, the birds were having a feast on the emerging termites ! Whoever is up there, Thank you !

Bro aeiou, my statement is provocative after I saw all the birds killed by the authority in mukah in one of the blog picture. And one more thing, I do not know how the authority will become anti bh farmers . If they want to be so anti n the cowards still the devil in disguise than how could problem be address . Just like now we also do not know how the statistic of bird house derived. This scenario like selling lottery ticket or prizes which the public will not know where the date n venue of the drawing of winners.

If bsn bank able to draw depositor into their bank n gives luxurious car every month without any of us know who , when an where is the event than how come nobody question?

Gone were the days when u pat my back n I pat yours. If there still such people thinking that they could bribe the authorities, I think these bird house owner better prepare a paper bag in court house.

Added on April 11, 2010, 10:56 pmI will rather question the govt n provoke their intelligent n see if they are ready for the challenge to be question in front of the press. This is the only way to get both party to meet the challenge.

Added on April 11, 2010, 11:01 pmMaybe one day I won't said like that once I have a bird house or belong to the association. So enjoy the stupid provocation for those of u who want to shit out long time ago but cannot. No offense yo n don't feel the heat as I believe there many Big guys helping others mend good rapport with the authorities no matter how bad the insult. Don't think forum is even reaching them. Irrelevant too.

I wonder if the heritage folks will thank you for having a BH in Penang so your swiftlets have reduced the chances of them winged termites frm finding a mate to start a new colony in a mostly wooden heritage building?
With the amount of insects they gorge for each meal, I also wonder how much swiftlets contribute towards the reduction of dengue cases in the country.
Maybe the PBTs ought to pay each BH some money for vector control.
The same amount the PBTs pay the contractor to fog housing areas will be a good starting amount.
I swear that the fogging brings more mosquitoes than reduce.
Each time my area get fogged, I get more mosquitoes an hour after.
The fogging seem to kill more lizards than mosquitoes and they still wonder why dengue fever is still on the increase.
Wonder if anyone monitor the effectiveness of the fogging.
The way they having conducted the fogging, the mozzies would have gained resistance already.
Just recall a news report some time ago of a wise guy who wanted to invite some Brits over who wanted to introduce genetically modified mosquitoes to control dengue in Malaysia.

Our birds do not leave the smell of diesel and chemical stains everywhere and for final human ingestion.
I have ingested and breathed in so much of chemical in the fog, I may one day sweat insecticide.
After each fogging I have recurring nightmare of my BH having 1 giant swiftlet that build tyre-size nest. biggrin.gif
