Good luck with it... and don't mind I ask, aren't the system you're looking for a little overkill for what you're doing? Programming aside, don't you think that a powerful processor (Quad) and a decent Quadro will be sufficient for web design (Assume you're doing the painting part)?
I wouldn't say it overkill. Maybe a little pricey but the specs is worthy for years to come. But it would certainly be a killer to work on a less decent laptop. rclxub.gif

Just have to wait and see. If not then i just have to get a cheaper laptop. boo-hoo.. cry.gif

Yes, the mobile CPUs differ from their desktop counterparts. Some notebooks do use desktop CPUs, but their battery life is compromised meaning that they won't last very long. Be sure to check up on which platform (Montevina / Santa Rosa) the mobo is, as the latest penryn mobile CPUs are not compatible with Santa Rosa.

The latest mobile CPUs are socket P and have 478 pins. Typically having the TDP of 25W. Generally, in my laptop's case (NP8660 based on M860TU), I can switch my P8400 to P9600 on-the-fly without having to flash its BIOS or modding. Mobile C2Qs, however, are not compatible with the NP8660, only the NP8662, which has a revised mobo. The NP8660 can be also affixed with an extreme C2D, however the price for such a CPU is abysmally high.

The laptop's GPU, if it is even upgradeable, should be in MXM form factor, High performance laptops have MXM 2.1 type III/IV module. Now with the advent of MXM 3.0 type A/B, I think newer laptops will be using such form factor. I suggest paying mxm-upgrade.com a visit.

But even then, having the right form factor is never enough for a laptop GPU, the mobo's bios must recognize the device or else the laptop would
1) not POST
2) display an error regarding the unrecognized mxm device

Furthermore, the TDP of a card you want to affix to the laptop must be taken into account, as different types of mxm card has different TDP. Lastly, we have the heat dissipation factor. This is a factor that is not to be taken lightly, even if you DO manage to fit the card in and boot up, but if it's not within the thermal budget of the laptop, it is basically useless as it is unstable and may crash constantly or downclock, whichever comes first, when gaming.

Getting mobile CPUs and GPUs are hard. You may be able to buy them from the vendor that is selling you the barebone of a laptop, this is advisable as the vendor knows what is compatible and what is not.

Going on E-bay is fine too, a seller called extremeprocessor is famous for selling ES Intel processors. GPUs however, are rare and expensive, The most latest mxm based GPUs are usually not sold individually, but, there might be an exception to foreign websites, which do sell parts of laptops to others. Some require you to be an existing customer of their company and some don't.

All in all, if you're staying in Malaysia, I don't really see the point in buying a barebone, with the shipping cost taken into consideration and all that.

The trial or complete version? Anyway we'll discuss further in pm laugh.gif or else very soon the mod will poke in and drop a 'aloha' here tongue.gif .

I totally agree on that when applying 1920x1200 resolution. But u can enlarge the fonts to your liking at the control panel though if you are not comfortable with the font suddenly = so small laugh.gif tongue.gif .

By the way the D900F is currently available for pre-order and accordingly they ship all around the world.

Check it out at www.mycizmo.com . brows.gif

Depending on the game, the performance boost may be 50-60%. If you have the money then go for it, if not, I suggest configuring the laptop to have a single card first and then upgrading it to SLI when you have the money.

Sometimes game that does not support SLI will run poorer in SLI mode than single card mode.

Personally I would pick single card over SLI any day due to reliability/stability and Nvidia over ATI due better driver support. I've seen Nvidia and ATI's cards that are suppose to be the same in term of technical specification but ATI's perform slower due to driver instability and also the fact that most of the games in the market built on Nvidia's card.

Yes. Single GPU is normally more stable than dual GPUs if you are comparing GTX260M with dual 9800M GS.

that is true, a SLI graphic card is a mix bag of performance. and a single gpu is much better performing and OCing. However a user in the notebookreview forum have a SLI 7950GTX and still can play all the latest game with higher graphic setting, this prove that SLI system can make your GPU future-proof!! but hey they are still a some game that doesnt support SLI nvidia/ATI

to me, SLI, is like a gimmick that manufacturer wishes to use in order to make the notebook look menacing like the desktop version. A notebook is still a notebook and the limitation of its component are still there and have not yet crossed the line of the desktop. it doesnt have any custom cooling system like the desktop which is a bad thing... since cooling is good to well-balance your system performance.

besides, SLI will only make your notebook lifetime shorter... well that is from my perspective. Its not like i dont like SLI, i just dont find it good for a notebook to have a SLI. Nevertheless, it does increase your performance in gaming by a lot!!! biggrin.gif thumbup.gif soo yeehaaa the graphic!! icon_idea.gif rclxm9.gif icon_idea.gif

Hi guys, I think I made my decision to get the np5797, just wanna ask, for harddisk right, is that big differrent btwn 7200rpm and 5400rpm? Coz if I insist 7200rpm then the max capacity i can get is 320GB which is not so sufficient to me... ...

I am currently using 320GB 7200RPM.. Waht i can say it is extremely when loading large files, applications, games or avi files. It takes only 0.5 secs to load a 2GB blueray ripped MKV file.

But let's say if i need further HDD, i can anytime buy a external HDD or use a e-SAta.
