I drove a converted v6 before and it really rocks..A converted Manual transmission but forgotten what type of engine

Perdana V6 worth to get in 2nd hand and mod it. My friend bought a 2nd hand Perdana around Rm55k and transplant into 4g63T engine. Look awesome!!!

driving one...got a used unit...had some minor repairs done when i got it and it's now my pride and joy...

used to drive a honda vtec b18c before...i guess i prefer this v6 more...dunno why...maybe getting old and just wanna cruise in an auto, tired of manual already

my only problem is that the bumper is made of fiber...knock on something sure pecah one...thinking of changing it to a PU model soon...anyone got any good deals for this (the alfa model)?

well, ur car now is V6NA? Instead of convert to manual trans, better u just transplant ur engine to TTurbo....

manual GB will cost u, if not mistaken is more than 2k++

Added on March 10, 2008, 6:21 pmanyway, from my experience..(my dad have been driving v6 for several years..from old v6 to..enhance version). Fortunately never got into any gearbox problem...if got also no need to worry..(government car)..no need to spend money to repair or replace it. The car is quite good..even tho it feels a bit heavy especially when accelerate...but u can feel the power when u step on the accelerator(the engine sound is also nice...)..smooth and steady on highway. The only things i dont like is passenger leg&head room, no air bag and the acceleration..(0-100kmh in 13sec for 140+hp car..too slow!)

yupp...see how heavy your foot lah...and it's soo easy to reach 100km+ with even a v6 na engine...

if at 100kmh and the rpm is near to 3000rpm...ok or not? - i mean in terms of economy fuel usage

if at 100km/h, then its okay~~

is it advisable to use open pod air filter for my auto v6? Will i feel a big difference in torque / bhp improvements?

Coz i'm really afraid if installing it would increase fuel consumption too much...

my uncle juz bought a 2nd hand v6, 2005 model, the one wit the stupid alfa grill.. i jumped out at the moment went my auntie drove it my house one day n gave me the car keys 2 take it out 4 a spin.. i really like the revised interior, a blend of luxury but kinda sporty at the same time.. the steering wheel also feels nice.. the seats r superb, really comfortable.. the driving position could be better, but its kinda ok 4 me..

the engine sounds kinda weird when u start it, kinda like a whining sound.. but on the road it feels really smooth n effortless.. acceleration feels kinda slow, maybe coz its quite heavy, but when get it up 2 speed, it feels really smooth n quiet.. comfortable too.. love 2 drive this car on long journeys..

the only downsides r, no airbags, still using old school instrumental panel wit analog odometer, although i do like the red motive, feels like a bimmer, no trip computer, n the GB have a reputation 2 kaput at a very early age.. but according 2 my uncle, the newer batch doesnt have this prob anymore coz theyve installed ATF cooler on it already..

overall, it rocks!! i like it!!

well, for me, i can say it is good to use the open pod... sure u fell the difference coz the air flow direct into ur engine.

Induction Kit Review
One of the first modifications done to the Skyline is to fit an induction kit to rid the engine of the restrictive stock air box, which helps the engine breathe more easily. This is a very simple modification, and there are many different induction kits available. The next question is, "Which one is best?". This article relates to the 4 most popular kits available, being HKS, Apexi, Blitz and K & N.


What are the benefits of an Induction Kit?
The primary function of an Induction Kit is to clean the air before it enters the engine, but also to provide better air flow to improve the engines power output. The power output of an engine is proportional to the volume of air it can ingest at any given time, assuming that the fuelling is also set up correctly. The most minute restriction in the air induction system will cause an engine's optimum power output to drop. Maintaining optimum, unrestricted air flow becomes a problem when the air must pass through a filter element. There are many different designs of filters on the market, and each manufacturer will make claims that their design is more effective than their competitors. Generally, the greater the air flow restriction, the greater the power loss. Therefore, the ultimate acheivement is to choose as filter that will flow as much air as possible, witthout sacrificing filtration efficiency.


Blitz Sus Filter
The BLITZ 'Sus' Power air filters are made from T304 stainless steel which is totally unique to Blitz. The entire filtration element is made from a fine stainless steel mesh which means the filters never wear out and Blitz claim they have substantially less restriction than any other filter. Some of the other aftermarket filters are made from paper or foam elements, and some do require oiling to maintain their filtration capacity. According to Blitz, this oil gradually disperses into the inlet tracts of an engine, and coats the walls and in particular the air flow sensor, slowly reducing the performance of the vehicle. The Blitz air filters also have the same fine mesh in the top of the filter, which improves the amount of air they can flow, and because the element is 100% metallic, Blitz claim the induction note it produces is similar to a Touring car or group 'A' rally car.

HKS Mega Flow Filters
HKS state that engine power is directly related to the amount of air an engine can take in and expel. Therefore, one of the easiest and least expensive ways to increase the horsepower of any engine is to improve the airflow into the cylinders. However, many products in the marketplace sacrifice air filtration capability for improved air flow characteristics. HKS claim that their High Performance Air Filter Systems offer the ultimate in both air filtration and air flow for maximum engine performance. The elements use a special oil to stop unwanted dirt particles from passing through the multi-layer polyurethane filter. Filters are thrown away when their lifetime has expired and are replaced with new filters, which are inexpensive and easy to replace.

HKS Claim:
"The ultimate in both air filtration and air flow for maximum engine performance..."


Apexi Power Intake Filter
The Apexi dual funnel Power Intake has evolved from the Apexi Super Intake filter with some subtle refinements in the design and filter element. According to Apexi, this resulted in a 10% reduction in pressure drop by utilizing an upper and lower funnel. The Power Intake reduces air turbulence within the filter and creates smooth air flow into the throttle body. Maintenance is kept to a minimum as this filter is a dry-type air filter and will alleviate the problem of filter oil from "wet" air cleaners, interfering with the air-flow meter.

Apexi Claim:
"Accept No Imitations..."


K & N Filtercharger
K & N use their own unique design unlike others which use a conventional paper or foam material. K & N state that because the dirt particles are trapped inside the passages of foam or paper filters, that they eventually clog, and when this occurs, airflow restriction increases dramatically. The K & N Filtercharger uses a special cotton fabric which is sandwiched between aluminum screen wires. K & N claim that the pleated design provides five times more filtering surface over the element circumference. The filter is then saturated with an air filter oil which attracts particles of dirt and debris which build up on the outside of the filter.

K & N Claim:
"...Doubles the air flow...adds up to 15 extra horsepower..."


How they were tested.
The filters were tested on the quality of the filtration, simulated by using a vacuum cleaner and millions of microscopic dirt particles. The particles that penetrated the air filter, were collected on a secondary paper filter, so that a fair comparison could be performed, and the results could be compared like for like. As well as the fine particle test, the performance gains were also measured using each of the induction kits in the test. Therefore, in the quest to find the ultimate induction kit, the filters must not only filter the particles out efficiently, but must maximize the amount of clean air flow, through the filter. The winner would be the induction kit that filters the most dirt particles, whilst acheiving the maximum power output of the vehicle.

Conclusion
The comparison clearly shows that the Apexi Power Intake filter wins the test, not only on filtration but also by providing the maximum power gains, with K & N, Blitz and HKS coming in second, third and last, respectively. From a filtration point of view, the photographic evidence shows that various induction kits had poor filtration properties, leaving high levels of dirt and carbon on the paper filters. Any deposits that are allowed through the filters, can potentially cause problems with the Air Flow Meters on the car, which are attached to the ends of the induction pipes. It is a fairly common fault with the Skyline, to 'blow' an A.F.M, and a large amount of carbon can be found coating the sensor in the A.F.M.

It is questionable how accurate the original source of data is, as HKS are proven to sell more induction kits than any one of the others featured in the test, and yet there induction kit rates as the worst kit in the test. This suggests that either HKS rely upon their brand name to sell their 'poorly' manufactured air filters, or that the original Japanese test was nothing more than a PR stunt to promote the lesser known equipment. HKS and Blitz continue to be the best selling induction kits in the UK, and are used by Middlehursts, Hiteq and Abbey Motorsport as their first choice when the induction kit modification is carried out.

One thing that does stand out is the fact that all the induction kits seem to offer similar performance gains, of around 13 - 14 bhp. This would seem consistant with actual power gains that have been confirmed by using a rolling road.

So the question still stands, "Which Induction Kit is the best?". Well, if you can trust the original source of data, then the clear winner is the Apexi Power Intake. For those of you that are more sceptical, the choice is probably more to do with the cosmetic looks of the induction kit, as the performance gains are very much the same.

- The original test was based upon the results found when using filters specifically made to fit the Toyota Supra. However, the filtration is unlikely to differ, as all the filtration materials used are the same for every model of car.

if u gonna buy one new, i agree wit u, its expensive n ancient tech.. charging 100k 4 such old tech stuff is really crazy.. its got not many standard equipments n gadgets as well.. so really a not worth buy..

but, if u gonna buy one 2nd hand.. i pretty much agree.. u can get a decent condition 04 or 05 model 4 bout 50k, n i think thats a good buy.. think bout it, 50k 4 a big executive saloon thats actually still quite nice looking, comfortable n quite good 2 drive..

hi all. i'm pretty new to automotive thingy so i hope can get a kind advise from you all

firstly thanks for bringing this topic. i'm driving my dad's old perdana, the first model, but already converted the engine to V6. scares me a lot since after got licence, drive perdana.. bigger than kancil during test.

one thing i realize is that before my dad convert the engine, the meter is 220kmh. but after convert, the meter only 180kmh.. is the upgraded engine are slower or my dad intentionally made it like that?

how about the average fuel consumption? before the KL-Putrajaya hiway established, i use around 2 'takuk/takat/senggat meter' to go back and forth and back again from KL - cyberjaya - KL again.. using the highway, i'm using half of that 'takuk/takat' right now. is that normal or still worst? what are the economy speed of perdana ? my main concern about this car is the fuel consumption. huhu. up until now i use RM 50 that can go back and forth from KL cyberjaya for 3 times ( 6 trips ) and RM 70 to go to teluk intan. is that normal ? (but if i'm going inside KL, it's hell a lot of usage.. )

your dad probably fitted a halfcut from japan, all japan cars are limited to 180km/h until recently the limitation was lifted

My car runs perfectly without any problems. At the 130,000km mark the gearbox started slipping... full throttle at highway speeds is just terrible and the car doesn't go anywhere, you can feel the revs go up but the speedo doesn't go anywhere. Now at 150,000 shifts have become quite jerky. Gearbox going to die soon, but I'm considered lucky because it typically completely goes dead at 100,000km.

just now asked a shop how much to install an atf/oil cooler to my v6, they quoted rm550. know any place cheaper? coz i heard somebody got it installed for less than rm300. dont care so much if the cooler is new or recon...as long as it works.

my 2 front leather seats are a lil bit worn out...know any place to get the leather seats for < rm1k? a shop quoted me rm600 to change it to PU...dunno whether will look nice or not

guys, how much the first version perdana v6 bumper?? im planning to buy one to replace the droppy one. the bracket holding the bumper is broken.

my perdana v6 just passed 160k and just serviced the car. so far no gear problem. i wonder the 2002 v6 got atf cooler or not....

check the gearbox and make sure u have some warranty on the gearbox and engine...if u can bring a mechanic or somebody whose very familiar to a v6 while test driving, that'd be a lot better.

a bad gearbox would probably be a bit jerky and gear engagement not so smooth....maybe other sifus here could give more info on this. if all ok with this, go for it! you wont regret it.

i bought a 99 model...got some problems initially but now all resolved and it's damn good!!! wish it was cheaper though...but hey, cant win em all...

shops? hmmm...motor trader has loads of this...mostly in klang...dunno why...but do try to check em out...

waahhh....FC very high woh.

mine twin turbo, RM100 average can go about 400+-

highway about 450++, if constant speed at 120km/h +- , can go more than that...

if the car is properly used and under scheduled maintenance, it will be pretty good...overally the only problem i found is the gearbox, gear changing causes quite an impact to the car....the maintenance is quite high....especially the timing belt...never had a long journey drive, but i guess it might be performing well...

erk... so tggi u punya fc.. scare to buy v6 tt.. hahahaha

Well you can either look at the registration card if it was done properly for the engine code eg 6A12/4G93/4G92 etc. in that format, starts with a number followed by alphabet then two digit numbers again. or poke around the engine bay looking for the engine number which is not easy unless you know where to look for, usually it's stamped on a hidden hard to see place on the engine block. OR take a pic and post here.

my house get v6 as company car too...since 1999..
really quiet and comfortable this car... test top speed can only go 170-180 and even that haf to off overdrive(3rd gear)... despite proton say it can go 205kph... no way i think !
proton shud replace this car... too old .. i mean its a flagship proton but dash and stuffs are lagging behind waja which is cheaper car, even odometer also oldskool use analog... airbag also tarak.. no mp3 player..

Hello everyone, im a V6 2002 owner. I fill up fulltank with Vpow for RM 120 and drive 381 km. izzit normal?

i was juz thinkin.. wat u guys do?? if u have a 50+k budget, would u get a 2nd hand v6, or sumthin new, say like a new persona hi-line?? its roughly the same price..

i dun own perdana. but for that money the idea that i hav in mind will be.

buy 2nd hand 1996 perdana SEI for 25K.

and do these mods :
*6A12TT (turbo charged mitsu engine)
*better brake system
*better suspension system
*rebuild chasis (remove rust, strengthen it)
*install bars(for better handling)
*improve comfort more (install sound proofing)
*refurbish interior with V6 interior leather
*and of coz the most important is new V6 bodykit
*bling2 rim(optional)


all those mods how much ar? close to 25K? or more? if more lower it by remove unnecessary.

i might be wrong, but
from what i know, it needs a mounting modification when transplanting 6A12 into Perdana SEi
and also for ter-ans-pelanting transplanting 4G63 into Perdana V6

i thought 6A12 and 4G9x family share the same mounting, no? owh....sory if im wrong

what's the normal cost for this on a Pv6:-

1. full service to change timing belt + items + labour ?

2. top overhaul?


coz thinking of doing 1 and maybe 2, by end of this year...suspect some white smoke ommission...hmm

oh..another thing...just got a used pajero oil cooler from chop shop for rm150...wanna do mod and install it as an atf cooler for my v6 but not sure which workshop good for this...and for the hose, how long should i buy?

I`ll be doing the timing belt changing next tuesday. if you wanted to know the pricing maybe i can pm you after everythings done.
my mileage is 76k and the mechanic advice me to change cause if too long the timing belt`s material will get harden due to long time working and heat.
So when it snaps then you need to leave your beloved car in the garage for a week. better not to risk it.

i`ll be changing quite alot of thing and adding in some parts.maybe i will update this later when everything is done.

Are sure about the top speed? I've tested it and can go more than 170...this is a stock car.

Wow, 56k? Why the SA quoted my father car around 43k? this is last year

Looks like the FC is a bit high...My father car 2003, for full tank usually can go more than 500km. In city can cover around 400-450km.


For 1, SC said more than RM 2k....

Let me know the pricing also...the car already reach 98k km, also need to change the timing belt. BTW, a few weeks ago, I met a perdana( with the same spec and year), already clocked 275000km....WOW! dont know where the owner travel with his car....hehe

perdana 275k??

hehe...used to own a honda eg8 b18c before this perdana...when i had it, the mileage was nearly 250k...when i sold it, it was about 305k...so yeah, for honda...400k sure no problem one....i heard some older hondas could go until past 500k...then maybe the meter reset...hahah...cool huh?

so yeah...i hope the perdana shud have no problem bypassing 300k mileage....

read in the papers that day one car forgot what brand mileage already 700k....

and read somewhere also that more mileage means that the engine is good...it's more dangerous to buy an old car with low mileage since the car might not have been optimised properly...maybe engine a bit rosak inside...so yeah...dont be scared with high mileage!

3500rpm ah? I thought that is where the initial rpm after the car downshifted (from 4 to 3 i think)..
try use the "Hold" button at 2nd gear and try to reach 4800rpm... (3rd gear or 4th gear also can, but that time already above 150km/h lor...)

Guys please help me here, let me explaint the problem i facing now.

I replace my v6 with a new battery during CNY. Until recently i cant start my car, and the alarm go off. (a sign that the battery is weak and flat)

so replaced v6 batt yesterday, but today i couldn't start my car anymore! before this i keep seeing the battery warning icon keep going on and off after i changed the batt. And i can clearly notice all the light within the meter is dim even the head lamp could't shine as far as it is, the digital clock is not bright. I realised that it may not be the battery problem, but maybe the alternator.

I'll like to know how much does a alternator cost in the market?

beside that what other possibilities could have causes my car not being able to start?

is it advisable to buy a perdana now that the fuel price sky rocket? are there any cars which offers the same comfort, power , second hand value as the perdana but consume less fuel? FYi, my budget is approx rm40 k..

any comments about waja, elantra, sonata? come close to perdana but consume less fuel?

my advice to you, if you want to have confort and fuel economy with that 40k budget is best to look for year 97 - 99 civic, the one which can adjust the driving style (fuel econ - speed mode)

my standard auto 2002 v6 can go 215~220kmh
tried it 3 times already.
twice tried it alone, once with 2 frens in the car watching dvd..

i usually fill-up full-tank and do calculations based on full-tank of petrol.
standard auto 2002 v6 with little mod on the exhaust.
and this is based on light footedness, no hard revving, no pecut2 or racing..

old petrol price RM1.92 per litre (usually i do fill-ups RM 110 - RM 115)
RM 0.22 per km (town)
RM 0.16 per km (hiway)

new petrol price RM2.70 per litre (three full-tanks already RM 155 - RM 166 - RM 159 giler.. hahaha..)
RM 0.31 per km (town)
RM 0.22 per km (hiway)

it happened to me before, not to my v6 but to my previous car.
the car won't start with new battery and every light goes dim.

went to workshop, checked, and found out the alternator rosak, it reversed the current..
meaning, the alternator pull all the current from battery, not recharging it..

it just the max torque is around that rpm.
so it feels a bit like more power.

but for mivec or mivec-md, a lot more pull can be felt.

My v6 owns a manual gearbox 222, v6 ori engine. opps my this is the 4th gear box, previous 3 nos are Auto.
My fuel consumption per tank can go 480km. Last time auto gearbox run only 400km.
Facing a prob now, my v6 hard to start.(sorry it's a double post as i open a thread b4, should i close it?)

what do u mean by hard to start?
have u checked the battery? or starter?
or ur car wants a new engine? a V6TT perhaps?

as for installing atf cooler, i can recommend a very reliable v-sixers member who has a workshop to do it.

Buddy thanks for the Input, Yup is my alternator giving problem. I wasted Rm180 for brand new battery which is un-necessary

RM350 for Alternator including workmanship

Can you please pm me your v-sixer menber workshop address, I may one want to consider installing one unit on my gen2 auto

I'd changed the battery, ori ngk sparkplug (platinum), grounding cable, vs, fuel filter & all belts changed, since i swap my gearbox.
V6TT half cut quoted around 6.8k ler, labour ler........
