Been driving a 2002 PV6 for almost 2 years now...Bought new and handed over to me by dad at ~50k+ kms...car was stock standard when I took over. The car is 110k+ kms now and till date have installed the below (i know it's not high end stuffs so please don't laugh at me
1. ATF cooler (immediately after taking over) 2. 7 point earthing (immediately after taking over) 3. Pivot Blue Raizin VS 4. Michelin MXV8 (still running on it after 60k kms with 40% tread left) 5. SACHS Advantage all round (making noise now after 60k kms...need to replace soon) 6. Autofoam Track Package 7. LED trunk, footwell and puddle lights (DIY) 8. Hella FF75 Driving Lights 9. Osram Nightbreakers (used 3 sets, burns out every 9 months as I drive early in the morning to work and late at night from work daily) I'm sure all Perdana owners will agree with me that the headlights are "a bit" weak, even with the built-in fog lights on. This is what prompted me to install items #8 and #9 above. Although better, I'm fed up of changing the bulbs every 9 months @ RM 90 per pair which brings me to the latest and IMO the best upgrade I've done for my beloved car below:- 10. Retrofitted BiXenon Projector headlights (DIY) ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() sorry for the blurry pics. I only have phone camera. |

it's very nice to drive in the dark now and also when i stop at the traffic lights ppl will be wondering what luxury car i am driving... |

if i remember correctly it was about 2.5k...
improvement? depends on your objective of getting the foam...if you're looking at handling, i think you are better off spending the money on chassis bars. if you're looking to reduce road noise, you can get a pair of ear plugs for less than RM2. as you can see from my reply, i'm not exactly happy with the money spent. don't make the same mistake i did. |

QUOTE(slickdeals @ Jan 3 2010, 01:47 PM) Dear NeuroOne, Seems like you know stuffs about car. Please feel free to answer my noobie question. I inherit my dad v6, it's approaching 200k now, and curious if I need to do major service. If yes, what to change? I mean, I just changed engine oil and filter, other than that what else? regarding previous question, I suspect wind sound as it starts produce sound after 140kmh, and when I slow down, the sound stop. if it's a wind sound, then how to fix? Dear Omnipotent, I read your previous post and you did some stuff to your car. My questions are posted below. 1. ATF cooler (immediately after taking over) Old PV6 (not alfa design) doesn't have ATF cooler? How much did it cost you? Planning to get one to protect my GB - no it doesn't. about 300 (2nd hand unit) 2. 7 point earthing (immediately after taking over) No idea what it is, care to explain its function? - did this cos my previous waja had earthing problems. 7 main points in the engine bay are properly earthed (alternator, transmission, engine block, etc.) to avoid electrical disturbances affecting each other. 3. Pivot Blue Raizin VS Why do you need voltage stabilizer? Does it improve overall performance of the car? - stabilizes the voltage in between the spikes caused by a/c condenser switching on/off 4. Michelin MXV8 (still running on it after 60k kms with 40% tread left) my PV6 is still doing fine with its tyre. Just changed it, and it costed a bomb. - saving up for Premacy LC. Anyone thinks i should go for Bridgestone GR-90 instead? which one is quieter? 5. SACHS Advantage all round (making noise now after 60k kms...need to replace soon) How do you determine shock absorber fits your car? Does any shock absorber fits any car or must have spesific lengh etc. - the manufacturer will indicate on the box what car it fits. 6. Autofoam Track Package Auto foam??? foam? No idea what is it. - filling up the empty cavities in the chassis with automotive foam. acts as an invisible rollcage (as advertised). not recommended in my opinion. 7. LED trunk, footwell and puddle lights (DIY) - as hobby to make my car look more premium 8. Hella FF75 Driving Lights - to improve visibility at night 9. Osram Nightbreakers (used 3 sets, burns out every 9 months as I drive early in the morning to work and late at night from work daily) 10. Retrofitted BiXenon Projector headlights (DIY) Mind to explain how you chage your car headlight? Mine is the old one, and showing annoying-yellowish on the cover itself, how to clean it, I mean, how to take out your light and do the cleanign. I saw pins that fit the lamp to the car. Do I need to just take out the pins? - the yellowing is on the outside. no need to take out the lamp. there are a few plastic cleaning agents you can buy off the shelves to clean it. may not work if the yellowing is too severe. i have an extra set of original Koito Japan headlamps which i took out from the car when i retrofitted my HID Projectors. they are in very good condition and no yellowing. if you're interested i can sell it to you. Thanks in advance for your help. Appreciate it, and I'm learning about cars from here |

any Perdana owners here changed the bulbs on the meter cluster or a/c panel before? any tips to share? (what bulbs used, which part is sensitive, step-by-step guide on removing the panels)...
my a/c panel lights slowly dying off 1 by 1...1st the control knobs, then the a/c & circulate switch, then my hazard switch....now my rear demister switch also died... This post has been edited by Omnipotent: Jan 21 2010, 02:22 PM |

i don't think it's the engine oil that's causing it...mine the 1st 2 service use fully synthetic shell change @ 10,000kms...then switch to mineral change @ every 5,000 kms...now after i took over the car i use semi syn change @ every 5,000 kms...mileage 120,000 kms still no smoke...
sometimes it's luck...your car might be assembled with a faulty piston ring or spark plugs... |

QUOTE(tuo850 @ Apr 28 2010, 11:38 AM) Hi there, just got a 2001 V6, not quite satisfied with the lights, its too low and dim. I'm doing lots of weekend night travel. Any sugeestion to improve this? And also wanna change the absorber. What brand is the best for long distance travel on lots of holes road ( kl to kelantan) depends on your budget. for lights, check if your headlamp cover is already dull/yellow. not sure about any products out there to remove the dullness but best solution is to buy a new set. if your cover is ok, you might wanna look at the bulbs. if you wanna stick to OEM bulb, you can try Osram nightbreaker (RM90/pair). slight improvement but lifespan is half of the normal bulb. i do not want to comment about HID because some members here are concerned about JPJ issues. if you are considering HID, please do a proper retrofit and not just plug in a cheapo HID kit and cause glare. Proper HID retrofit will set you back at least RM700 to RM1500 depending on quality and parts used. for absorbers, you'll prefer a stiffer set for better high speed ride. I've been using Sachs Advantage and it has served me quite well in this area. I will try Monroe Reflex next, probably in 2 or 3 months time. |

frankly i prefer comfort setup...the car is not powerful enough for sporty setup anyway (mine is stock 6A12).
I'll be upsizing my tires to 60 series as well in my next change. My only issue with the car now is the vibrating brakes and squeaky noise on my driver's seat. I've changed to Boash discs but the problem comes back after 10,000 kms. Any other suggestions? Will changing to Waja OEM brake discs solve the problem? My previous Waja brakes had no such problem at all. This post has been edited by Omnipotent: Apr 28 2010, 04:01 PM |

QUOTE(koh_424 @ Apr 30 2010, 03:22 PM) just wan to ask sum stupid question here. hmmm, i don't really get your question... if the D2s socket from HID set change to H7 socket need to buy a new socket for H7? wiring how to change it back? Added on April 30, 2010, 5:14 pm QUOTE(NeuroOne @ Apr 30 2010, 03:33 PM) what i mean by sportier setup is changing to adjustable suspension which has harder spring and absorber. no la...old already...balls not big enough to take corners fast fast...after all, too many "unforseen" circumstances on public roads...we can never be too confident and u can lower ur car as u please. and with sportier setup, u may take corners with more speed and confidence. my car is stock also, on straights, i can't catch my frens but on the corners i can close the gap.. vibrating brakes indicate that the disc is bengkok. try skimming or maybe change to twinpot brakes from galant for more braking power. ya, disc is bengkok, my previous stock brake disc also bengkok, so i skimmed it but it came back after 10,000kms also...that's why i changed to Bosch (thinking it will be better quality) but still same problem... any recommendations where to get twinpot brakes (i got no exp shopping for halfcuts) and is it plug and play (ABS not affected)? furthermore, are they 5 holes (meaning i need to change rims as well)? yes, once HID, hard to drive without it...
also, if your projector is meant for HID, you can't use halogen. |

QUOTE(soohing @ May 4 2010, 03:17 PM) well if your car is stock, you can consider changing your brake pads only. by changing that itself improve the braking power a lot. hi there, thanks for your input...i'm not looking for better braking power, i just want to resolve my brake disc issue (uneven causing vibration when braking at high speed)i bought my set of brake pads from one of the forumer here.. cheap and performed up to my expectations.. http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/376013 |

QUOTE(koh_424 @ May 5 2010, 10:27 AM) 4300k OEM Philips D2S. My output is quite yellow. Possibly because the bulbs i use are quite new. HID bulbs tend to move to higher color temp as they get older. Looking directly at it or when it shines on the wall also quite yellow.try to take out your bulbs and see. Maybe the seller is using very old OEM bulbs or non OEM bulbs. ![]() ![]() Added on May 5, 2010, 11:39 am QUOTE(soohing @ May 5 2010, 10:30 AM) i have been using the car for years and i have no problem with my stock disc.. i drive like an old man...definitely not the driving style...in fact this has been the problem since day 1. My 1st 10k kms service already got this problem. They skimmed the discs for me. But came back after another 10k. its either your brakes pads are in constant contact with the disc or you drive like a mad man... lol getting you brakes checked out perhaps can help you solve the problem I remember this problem quite common with PV6 and also the previous gen Accord. I thought changing the discs will solve the problem...sigh. This post has been edited by Omnipotent: May 5 2010, 11:39 AM |
