Guys please help me here, let me explaint the problem i facing now.

I replace my v6 with a new battery during CNY. Until recently i cant start my car, and the alarm go off. (a sign that the battery is weak and flat)

so replaced v6 batt yesterday, but today i couldn't start my car anymore! before this i keep seeing the battery warning icon keep going on and off after i changed the batt. And i can clearly notice all the light within the meter is dim even the head lamp could't shine as far as it is, the digital clock is not bright. I realised that it may not be the battery problem, but maybe the alternator.

I'll like to know how much does a alternator cost in the market?

beside that what other possibilities could have causes my car not being able to start?

is it advisable to buy a perdana now that the fuel price sky rocket? are there any cars which offers the same comfort, power , second hand value as the perdana but consume less fuel? FYi, my budget is approx rm40 k..

any comments about waja, elantra, sonata? come close to perdana but consume less fuel?

bro,

my advice to you, if you want to have confort and fuel economy with that 40k budget is best to look for year 97 - 99 civic, the one which can adjust the driving style (fuel econ - speed mode)

my calculations.
i usually fill-up full-tank and do calculations based on full-tank of petrol.
standard auto 2002 v6 with little mod on the exhaust.
and this is based on light footedness, no hard revving, no pecut2 or racing..

old petrol price RM1.92 per litre (usually i do fill-ups RM 110 - RM 115)
RM 0.22 per km (town)
RM 0.16 per km (hiway)

new petrol price RM2.70 per litre (three full-tanks already RM 155 - RM 166 - RM 159  rclxub.gif giler.. hahaha..)
RM 0.31 per km (town)
RM 0.22 per km (hiway)

it might be the alternator.
it happened to me before, not to my v6 but to my previous car.
the car won't start with new battery and every light goes dim.

went to workshop, checked, and found out the alternator rosak, it reversed the current..
meaning, the alternator pull all the current from battery, not recharging it..

it is not mivec as standard v6 is not a mivec.
it just the max torque is around that rpm.
so it feels a bit like more power.

but for mivec or mivec-md, a lot more pull can be felt.

Got my alternator replaced for nearly 3weeks and thought every thing would be find until i faced my worst nightmare, my v6 break down again mad.gif i have to sent my car to workshop for the mechanic to identify the problem of the car for me. It took him 2days to figure the problem, but i rather find it odd thats why i thing is necessary to post here for people who have experience can come in and share with me.

The mech told me that it was my V6's ECU chips that related to the electric current or alternator chips that caused my car current from draining out, which caused my alternator "armpture" to finished up the "carbon". All wiring has already been checked and are still in usable condition.

Now my mech told me i have to repair my ECU in-order to solve and fix my car problem.

I'll like to know is that such thing from ECU chips that can caused car current draining away and alternator to break down and spoilt

Your help is greatly appreciated.

Regards

Although i spend quite alot of money to repair my V6 but is still consider quite well worth, since the car is already 7years + and only had a major break down on me few months back, comes to think of it, i would said it fair enough.

Infact i do quite like the design of v6, as long you lower the ride and replace with other types of sport rims, it look good enough.

Hi all v sixer master,

I'll like to check with members here whether anyone convert NGV into their perdana? I would like to find out more in terms of the vehicle maintenance routine and also the cost.

Apart from this, ill also like to whether perdana convert rvr turbo with Auto transmission, has reliable gear box or its the suffer the same fate as current V6 where by the it has to be handle with great care?

Hope the master here can help to input valuable information, until now i still appreciate Perdana and have soft spot for it.

Cheers

i heard of some ppl installing NGV to their Perdana, even seen one filling up with NGV in Putrajaya.
but i havent got any experience or any close frens who install it, so cannot give comments..

RVR turbo auto gbox (or Eclipse turbo auto gbox) are basically a heavy duty gbox to handle the job of a turbo engine.
so it should be more reliable.
but in real world, u never know what can happen.
my rvr turbo auto gbox just gone kaput 2 months back after 3 years use (3 years after transplanting it, before that i dono how long it was used).
i can safely say that i cared for my gbox but still it gone kaput.
several of my frens RVR turbo auto gbox can tahan even after 5 years of abuse.
so, actually no guarantee a heavy duty gbox will tahan, but from the manufacturing side, it should tahan la.
auto gbox, sure will kaput sooner or later.
even other car manufacturer also face the same fate.
u should go to a gbox speacialist and see there are many auto gboxes from other car also kaput. haha..

the best bet is a manual gbox la.

Hey NeuroOne,

Thanks for your valuable input, it definitely help a lots.

We spoken few years back, if you remember carefully i owned a V6 as well back then it was my GF family car (already my wife now), it was really nightmare the engine was consuming engine lub, the gear box is jerking every now and then, alternator not in good shape, radiator fan not in good condition.

It the end, had to sell the car away due to the repair cost being a major factor, i always believe if you take good car of your car and service on time, which also include replacing all the wear and tears, the car will be road worthy as long as it is.

Now that my current ride installment is about to settle soon and also due to the fact i need a bigger and ride for my frequent outstation trip, i actually short list Perdana thus that's the reason why i still have soft spot for it.

Apart from that i also like Galant VRG but i wonder how was the reliability and also maintenance issue.

Referring back to RVR turbo Auto transmission, it definitely a good sign to know the auto box able to handle punishment, but for a executive car is kinda of defeat the purpose if you convert it to manual, but what i really interested is to know more about NGV installed on perdana.

Hope to have best of both world which is

RVR Auto
NGV installed

Can have both the power and also economic!
