my house get v6 as company car too...since 1999..
really quiet and comfortable this car... test top speed can only go 170-180 and even that haf to off overdrive(3rd gear)... despite proton say it can go 205kph... no way i think !
proton shud replace this car... too old .. i mean its a flagship proton but dash and stuffs are lagging behind waja which is cheaper car, even odometer also oldskool use analog... airbag also tarak.. no mp3 player..
*
my standard auto 2002 v6 can go 215~220kmh flex.gif
tried it 3 times already.
twice tried it alone, once with 2 frens in the car watching dvd.. biggrin.gif

Hello everyone, im a V6 2002 owner. I fill up fulltank with Vpow for RM 120 and drive 381 km. izzit normal?
*
my calculations.
i usually fill-up full-tank and do calculations based on full-tank of petrol.
standard auto 2002 v6 with little mod on the exhaust.
and this is based on light footedness, no hard revving, no pecut2 or racing..

old petrol price RM1.92 per litre (usually i do fill-ups RM 110 - RM 115)
RM 0.22 per km (town)
RM 0.16 per km (hiway)

new petrol price RM2.70 per litre (three full-tanks already RM 155 - RM 166 - RM 159 rclxub.gif giler.. hahaha..)
RM 0.31 per km (town)
RM 0.22 per km (hiway)

Guys please help me here, let me explaint the problem i facing now.

I replace my v6 with a new battery during CNY. Until recently i cant start my car, and the alarm go off. (a sign that the battery is weak and flat)

so replaced v6 batt yesterday, but today i couldn't start my car anymore! before this i keep seeing the battery warning icon keep going on and off after i changed the batt. And i can clearly notice all the light within the meter is dim even the head lamp could't shine as far as it is, the digital clock is not bright. I realised that it may not be the battery problem, but maybe the alternator.

I'll like to know how much does a alternator cost in the market?

beside that what other possibilities could have causes my car not being able to start?
*
it might be the alternator.
it happened to me before, not to my v6 but to my previous car.
the car won't start with new battery and every light goes dim.

went to workshop, checked, and found out the alternator rosak, it reversed the current..
meaning, the alternator pull all the current from battery, not recharging it..

Sorry to interrupt,
My father owns a 2nd hand perdana V6 (yr 1999)
----
Just want to ask, actually what is happening to P-V6 during 4800RPM??
Is that a something like Mivec or what?
*
it is not mivec as standard v6 is not a mivec.
it just the max torque is around that rpm.
so it feels a bit like more power.

but for mivec or mivec-md, a lot more pull can be felt.

what's the normal cost for this on a Pv6:-

1. full service to change timing belt + items + labour ?

2. top overhaul?
coz thinking of doing 1 and maybe 2, by end of this year...suspect some white smoke ommission...hmm

my mileage is already 90k+...guess i need to do the timing belt soon

oh..another thing...just got a used pajero oil cooler from chop shop for rm150...wanna do mod and install it as an atf cooler for my v6 but not sure which workshop good for this...and for the hose, how long should i buy?

some good links or price quote is appreciated
thx!

For Q1,
i've just done my 100K full service about 5 months ago.
Timing belt 100K (Gates, Guido, etc) ~ RM350
alternator belt (bando) ~ Rm25
aircond belt (bando) ~ RM25
waterpump ~ RM 110
sparkplugs (denso iridium x6) ~ RM35 x 6 = RM210
fuel filter ~ RM25 (can't remember)
oil filter ~ RM10
air filter ~ RM15
gb filter kit ~ RM 25 (can't remember)
engine oil (depends) ~ Petronas Semi-Synth 4L RM85 + 1L bottle top up RM25
gb oil ~ Proton 1L x 4 bottles RM 20 x 4 = RM80
coolant (depends) ~ RM20
labour (depends on workshop) ~ RM250
the prices above are for reference only. some items i can't remember.. whistling.gif

as for installing atf cooler, i can recommend a very reliable v-sixers member who has a workshop to do it. thumbup.gif

QUOTE(CooShyRee @ Jun 28 2008, 11:34 AM)
did a long journey in a perdana v6 yesterday.. was trying a new method of saving fuel by doin 90kmh on the highway, as it is the most economical speed.. as expected, this car is really nice 2 drive on highways n long journeys.. very comfortable, quiet n nice 2 drive..

was travelling wit 4 person on board n boot full of stuff.. could say the car was fully occupied.. i could say that the car doesnt sip fuel as much as i expected it 2 be.. not sure yet though, havent done a proper calculation.. im judging juz by the fuel gauge..

but, one thing i notice is, when ure overtaking someone, its quite hard 2 get it up 2 speed.. is it only mine, or is it the same wit all v6s??

only thing is.. its damn hard 2 drive economically on our roads, coz a lot of mofos will cucuk ur behind n flash around asking u 2 go faster eventhough im already on the most left lane.. stupid mofos!! u would expect in the days of massive petrol hike like now people would start 2 go slowly n learn 2 save fuel.. these people who r the ones whom u see on tv keep making noise n doin demonstrations bout the fuel hike, coz they drive like stupid idiotic maniacs!! learn 2 control ur right foot u mofos!! maybe u could save some money n can afford 2 buy rice 4 ur family dry.gif
*
driving @ 90kmh does give the best milage than driving 100kmh.
like the Proton Savvy record milage (RM0.08 per km) that was done by Proton, the driver does only 80-90 kmh around malaysia.

for overtaking, i think its ok la. quite a lot of pull.
but the gb does not drop the gear at the right time, so u have to accelerate early..
or u can press the overdrive button to "OD Off"..

might be the injector.

if during driving also sometime the petrol seems 'sangkut-sangkut' then it might also be the fuel filter or worse, the fuel pump..

but if during start only, might be battery, the injector, fuel filter..

hi guys, if i am getting a used v6, which production year v6 that the gearbox is trouble free ?
*
if i'm not mistaken, v6 after mid 2005 has installed atf cooler.
but that does not necessarily mean 100% trouble free..
my gb is 6 years old, still going strong eventhough my right foot is very heavy.. icon_idea.gif
always change atf fluid @ 20K~25K km, and change the atf filter + atf fluid @ 40K~45K km..

QUOTE(phreak_id @ Oct 12 2008, 09:55 AM)
My perdana (auto) having this prob.. gear will be in "free' mode when about 2-3rd gear (at certain rpm? not sure). it means that when i start accelerate it, the gear shift is smooth, but at the 3rd shift, it goes free about a second and then ok back and proceed to the next shift.. usually, when i press the pedal, i have to endure or release it a bit at that time and then press it again once it ok.. this kind of problem can be fix instead of changing new gearbox? i'm a noob in this car thingy..

by the way, it's an old 95 model with 6A12 engine and latest facelift.. bought it on march 2008 and i had change to new gearbox once on may 2008 (just 2 month after bought it) after it blow on the way to LCCT..

another thing, to all taiko here, is manual gearbox is quite problem-free and how much overall it cost to install them (any estimate cost please)? .. can recommend me any good pv6 mechanic near KL (bandar baru sentul)?.. thanx
*
try flushing ur gb and change the atf filter + atf fluid.
put no more than 3.75 litres in the gb.

manual box will last very very long, as long as u get a good manual gb with good internal parts + good mounting.
and don't forget to service it regularly..
estimated cost aroung RM2.5K~3K..

sorry can't recommend any mechanic in kl, i hv my favourite workshop near my place (putrajaya).
but my some of my fren might know. i'll ask around..

rm30 fees per year. rm20 for registration.
v-sixers are registered with ROS and the only one registered with Proton.

your car is SEi rite?
list of engine types u can convert to:
4G63T Evo3
4G63T Evo2
4G63T Evo1
4G63T RVR
4G63T Eclipse
6A12T (twinturbo) Eterna
6A12 NA Eterna
6A12 Mivec or Mivec MD Eterna

the best conversion would be 4G63T...

Hi guys I am now in dilemma over deciding whether to get Perdana Sei 2.0 95/96 or V6 99/00. There are alot decent Sei converted V6 models for sale in mudah.my I am tempted to get V6 model but then as I have done much research came across alot of owners saying about the persistent GB problem.

As I am deciding to purchase a 2nd hand Perdana with ready cash about 25k suggestion, tips & areas to look into spotting a good 2nd hand Perdana will be much appreciated.

So if I stick with Sei 2.0 will be a wise choice or look for those transplanted with Mitsu engines? Sorry 1st time purchasing a car really need some expert advise from Perdana owners here. Thanks god I found this section smile.gif
*
with your RM25K budget, IMHO it's hard to get a perdana year 2000 and up (V6 model).
that budget will get you 95-97 model.
or if u are really lucky maybe get 98-99 model. (but i'd doubt the condition of the car)

a fren of mine managed to get a 95 perdana for RM16K.
with some repairs and new tyres amounting to RM3K.

i think it's better for u to get a 97 perdana sei converted v6.
Sei engine is ok but the transmisson, u better look for manual, autos are ok but if u are unlucky, u will end up with a problem.
the auto tranny is not proton's problem but it's inherited from mitsubishi. nothing we can do about it.
newer model of car auto tranny is ok like waja, neo, etc etc..
or you can get modified perdana either single turbo 4G63T (vr4, evo123, rvr, eclipse) or twinturbo 6A12T (eterna) or mivec 6A12 mivec/mivec-md (6A12).

why do u wanna change to waja cps' radio cd set?

also, change to aftermarket ones la. better.
or better still, change to dvd+usb player la. lagi syok..

Added on December 6, 2009, 11:38 amgeneral advice from me:

1. use semi-synthetic engine oil, change every 5K km, change oil filter too.
2. change ATF every 10K km, and service it every 20K km.
3. at 100K km, do a major service, don't skimp on anything.

btw, i use Pennzoil Platinum 10w-40 Semi-Synthetic engine oil and Pennzoil Multi-Vehicle ATF

what kind of belting sound?
like screeching sound?
maybe the belting is a bit loose.
hv to ask mechanic to tighten the tensioner.

what's the mileage?
100,000km need to do major service.

anyone here know how to fix Perdana car horn not working?
*
horn got no sound?
check the horn's wiring.
sometimes, the wiring loosen and disconnect from the horn.
horn is located behind front bumper, under the headlights left and right.
left is for high pitch sound, right is for low pitch sound.
need both to work for the horn to sound good (big car-ish sound, example, if only left is connected, horn sound like kancil horn)

no problem nazril.
just 3K km more? hmm.. kopak la.. haha..
it is possible to buy ori part from EON or Proton and do it outside.

i did my major service with an outside workshop.
heck, after my 100K km service, i did all my services and repairs with outside workshop. haha..
i buy all items from various places/people.
then ask the workshop to do the servicing for me.

u can get good deal on parts from airline (a forumer here)
i hv bought many things from him before.

the tranny problem was inherited from mitsubishi.
and mitsubishi wont let proton touch it.
that's why, when gb kong, u either overhaul it or or buy halfcut gb or buy recond or buy new or change to manual tranny.
which in my opinion, manual tranny is the best option.
*best option but me myself love auto tranny.. hehe..

with manual tranny, the acceleration drag gone, power is instant.

Been driving a 2002 PV6 for almost 2 years now...Bought new and handed over to me by dad at ~50k+ kms...car was stock standard when I took over. The car is 110k+ kms now and till date have installed the below (i know it's not high end stuffs so please don't laugh at me  sweat.gif ):-

1. ATF cooler (immediately after taking over)
2. 7 point earthing (immediately after taking over)
3. Pivot Blue Raizin VS
4. Michelin MXV8 (still running on it after 60k kms with 40% tread left)
5. SACHS Advantage all round (making noise now after 60k kms...need to replace soon)
6. Autofoam Track Package
7. LED trunk, footwell and puddle lights (DIY)
8. Hella FF75 Driving Lights
9. Osram Nightbreakers (used 3 sets, burns out every 9 months as I drive early in the morning to work and late at night from work daily)

I'm sure all Perdana owners will agree with me that the headlights are "a bit" weak, even with the built-in fog lights on. This is what prompted me to install items #8 and #9 above. Although better, I'm fed up of changing the bulbs every 9 months @ RM 90 per pair which brings me to the latest and IMO the best upgrade I've done for my beloved car below:-

10. Retrofitted BiXenon Projector headlights (DIY)

sorry for the blurry pics. I only have phone camera.  smile.gif

why only u post pic of ur headlamp?
post pic of your car la.
