Hi,

I'm very interested in obtaining the 8G model when it comes to Malaysia.

Product Page:
http://eeepc.asus.com/en/product.htm

I think this will make an amazing mobile companion for a lot of us. Anyone from Asus Malaysia care to commment on when this will be available here and how much?

Thanks.

that would cost about NT$14000 with windows XP in Taiwan, convert to Ringgit is about RM1400, linux version is NT$1000 or RM100 cheaper

For $350 you'd get an ugly laptop with ugly panel, a mac-ripoff white body, and did i mention the panel is ugly?

it was to be priced at $500.. but they could have gone lower i bet...

it has instant on, >8 hours battery life, 1024x768 (compared to eee's 800x 400?)

features that i mention are those that eee gay-looking pc does not boast

foleo will not ship. Palm wants to put all its efforts into a single platform and to focus on the development of its smartphones.

still torn between getting a dell 1501 and this one laugh.gif a nice review from u might help icon_idea.gif
*
hoho
it depends on ur usage la

Asus Eee PC

REALLY decent mobility and portable
For work productivity like words, power point, excell (open office)
All software provided

its really for simple typing, surfing
if u want to play cd or dvd, need a external optical drive
or if u want some decent storage file, have to buy external HDD

Dell 1501

Well, if u want decent laptop for playing CS or all in one but a bit bulky, go for dell

btw, how much dell 1501?

What? COME ONE guys, for $500 i could buy a fully loaded Acer 15.4" Celeron 1.5 with Win XP. Greater screen resolution, etc.

This EEE is a piece of crap, in my opinion. It might have better portability, but in that sense Foleo is better albeit it is not going to be released

Added on October 31, 2007, 9:19 pmp/s the only good thing about this is that it was offered for $200, of which it was never released due to a $15 price hike on lcd monitor. damn asus

taiwan selling at NT$11000 which is about RM1100 for 4gb 512mb model.

water set means people bought it from taiwan or any other country with cheaper price and bring back malaysia here to make a profit, which means also not local set wink.gif

even taiwan set is not global warranty, that's why also it is cheap, only 1 year local warranty.. wink.gif

Added on November 1, 2007, 1:37 pmsend to shop and they will do the same thing, they will send it back to taiwan for warranty and you have to wait at least 2 or 3 weeks if you are lucky, it can take month for this kind of warranty..

biggrin.gif I love Asus Eee Pc so much, the size, weight, design, is simple enthuse. The first impression of this little Eee is jst simply entice & sophisticated... although is powered by Linux, yet still user friendly, and i can still able to use log my msn messenger, gmail, friendster, plays mp3 and other movie files as well. I will get another one which powered by Window. If Asus able to upgrade a little of the webcam quality and sound it will be the perfect match for student and people who searching for a light piece of fine tech gadget to fit their daily lifestyle.

Wow looks cool and light.
However i think the screen is pretty small, 7" only?
I wonder why they dont make the screen as big as the whole "black area".

But still an exciting new gadget, SSD cool!

Actually there's something that I'm worried about. If I were to install XP on it, would the 900MHz Celeron-M ULV be bloody laggy? Celeron-M performance is somewhat like the older gen centrino right.

It's currently preloaded with linux. Win XP version dunno when will come. But the presumption is that u can load it from CD via external.

An update for all potential buyers, not trying to burst ur bubble or anything but although it's using a ULV processor, the usage duration is an estimated 3.5 hours (from reviews) and the heat output is somewhat like a normal laptop which means it'll kill off ur... descendants if used for prolonged hours on ur lap.

But at a price of less than 2K per pop, it's a STEAL!

biggrin.gif  I love Asus Eee Pc so much, the size, weight, design, is simple enthuse.

Can anyone answer my doubt for this Asus Eee ?
I just couldn't understand what this Eee is for since the harddisk is just at 8GB maximum.
Price is tempting to me , but buying just for wireless surfing seems a little waste to me.

Can anyone answer my doubt for this Asus Eee ?
I just couldn't understand what this Eee is for since the harddisk is just at 8GB maximum.
Price is tempting to me , but buying just for wireless surfing seems a little waste to me.

first of all
go to find where asus target this laptop at the very first place, of course we are one of asus customer also
but the main purpose is to help the poor country family at least to equip thier kid with laptop
for classroom learning. so if we need higher end laptop, this is not the one to choose
unless u wanna carry around portable HDD, DVD writer. but that will defeat the purpose or portability or mobility.

and if we insisit to buy expectation have to pull down abit la
if not wait Dell or Compacq do promotion

It's not harddisk... it's flash memory.

Eeepc is basically a new segment altogether.

Officially, it's for the education market and the an alternative to the UMPC and MID devices thats about to be launch

In street talk, its basically targeted towards the in between the "buy-a-Kaiser-and-squint-to-see-the-damn-webpage", "the-STUFF-reader-who-want-but-cannot-afford-an-UMPC and the "pay-peanut-get-rubbish-but-complain-QC-no-good" crowd.

Asus could've done it cheaper but didn't. So personally, I do think it's a much better buy than those sub RM2K notebooks (which seems superficially better value)

Yeah, really bz lately. INSANELY BZ! wacko.gif wacko.gif So come here to escape the real world for a while. biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

I think the Eee PC is good for those whose requirements are very specific and are not adventurous with their PC. Take for instance those who buy PPC phone n the reason given is that they can "Go to starbucks and enjoy free internet". Honestly speaking, surfing the net with my 3.5" - 4" VGA res screen is JUST NICE only. Those with 2.7 - 2.8" QVGA screens wan... heh... goodluck lorr...

If ur purpose is to "Go starbucks and enjoy free internet" which is not exactly free anyway coz ur expected to purchase a beverage or food, I feel that the Eee PC is a better way about it.

Therefore, if ur uses r strictly documentation and internet, it's a good device. Anything else, u'll end up as Sniper On The Roof said; in the pay-peanut-get-rubbish-but-complain-QC-no-good class.

I do think it's worth it for those who are looking for an ultra-portable but could not afford one as those like sony, fujitsu cost ard RM4k-6k or so.
It's nice to lug around when u go college, starbucks or to the libraby..

But i still think the 4GB and 8GB is still too little but overall worth the price of RM1500 I would say.

aiya... all just models only lah. U think they really own the thing meh... Hey ZenZen, y neva take close up pic of the long-haired chick behind? Looks potentially hot. biggrin.gif

Well, the target segment of the Eee PC IS parents who want their kids to start out on PC's young and not spend a bomb on notebooks. Explains the kiddie apps u can find inside.

Maybe it is also to provide a channel to the lower income groups update themselves with technology.

Then it's better to stay with Linux rather than changing it to XP.
I heard XP itself is 3GB and + Office would left with XXXMB.

The 2GB would be enough for me to store all my documents and assignments.
Songs and the rest could be stored in my external HDD or SD.

well, I would say this hype is due to the size of the lappy... small like and UMPC, power /performance is predicatble... furthermore with SSD... only 1500...

I would say I would go buy it becasue of the Weight/Size and SSD...
best to mov around and perhaps install in the car

my wife should be very happ with this also, as a light user.
shall wait for the official source.....

From what I heard xp occupy more or less around 3GB,so left with 1GB and plus office it would left with a few hundred MB only.

I think after a while they might come out with a driver to make HSDPA to be compatible with Linux.
Guess it's good with just Linux instead of XP unless you take the 8GB model.

Hi shirohamada,

as I mentioned b4, this would be perfect for people who wanna do documentation and internet surfing only. For many of us who like to mess ard with our PC's, I don't think it's suitable. But I may get 1 just for work.

oh? an Eee thread? wonderful!

Kerazul: this is the stuff that i mentioned to you previously. Good eh?

btw, this would be nice for classroom setting as its not HUEG or HEAVY or something to that sense, and its about the same price as people would pay for a handphone these days. seeing this has about 3.5 hours of battery WITH wifi on, i can say you can add about 1 hour or so with the wifi turned off?

and also, as someone previously said, SHDC 8GB + this = a better thing to have than a PDA. Even with XP on it, you can save some space by installing OpenOffice seeing its smaller. Besides, you can always nLite your XP installation.

http://www.notebookreview.com/default.asp?newsID=4062 <== some tweaks people have done for the Eee, which includes XP installation.

BTW, there is another model of the Eee announced last year - 8GB version. it WILL be more expensive, but would be more better for installing XP WITH extra space.

but for basic document workings? i think the 4GB is decent enough.

If one decides to remain Linux then the 4GB one would be sufficient.
But if one decides to have XP + Office + some other programs, then the 8GB would be nice.

Hi seaotter,

yeah... I remember that u told me about it d other day. biggrin.gif So how ur 6828? Haven't seen u ard here often lately.

I think I'll wait for the 8GB version. There's 2 benefits to waiting. The price of the device will drop / Other brands will come up with similar products and similar prices.

in your opinion, which one is better designed? would you take the eee pc to starbucks? i would definitely not. id take the foleo anywhere i go, event o business meetings.

not the eee pc. why was everyone being so critical about foleo? it's only $100 more than the eee and essentially a direct comeptition. not the eee has no competitiopn aside for the kids toys OLPC...

I think you have to wait a lil while longer for the black version considering white version is not yet available in Malaysia. Anyone know when will it be readily available ( go to shop and directly grab it and pay, no need to order one ). I myself waiting for 8G, then try to play it first. If good then only buy.

The only upgradeable thing that you can do is upgrade your RAM - up to 2GB but i doubt anyone here wanna put 2GB since the processor is only 900MHz. However if you plan to install XP, i suggest upgrade to 1GB RAM or wait for EEE 8G since it come with 8GB SSD n 1GB RAM

make sure u keep your eyes on it when u r using it outdoors/cafe, thieves will be drooling over it, and it's so light they can take it and run a mile before they run out of stamina

that's the benefit of having a heavy ass notebook........they'll think twice before doing it

The demo unit is not available yet.
But will have it on the Pre-Sale day or before the Pre-sale day.

I got no news for the 8G model from Asustek
Only 4G will available soon.

Asustek only brought the 4G model into Malaysia for the Pre-sale.
They will have a Pre-launch on 16th November, then the Pre-sale will started on 1pm at my store.

About the Warranty is only for 1 year local instead of 2 years Global warranty.

haha, yea.
there are few customers fill up the Pre-launch order form because of buying this item as a gift to their Girl friend.
Girls like it very much.
because it comes with pearl white color, and the casing looks solid.
somemore good for people who use it to chatting and online.
even though it comes with the linux OS.
but it can use msn or yahoo messager, or either MIRC, somemore you can suft the web using mozilla firefox too (i try it on the demo unit from Asustek)
Basically i think it is very easy to use for beginner.

Thats Asus Eee PC, Rock solid, Heart touching. thumbup.gif

haha, yea.
there are few customers fill up the Pre-launch order form because of buying this item as a gift to their Girl friend.

Thats Asus Eee PC, Rock solid, Heart touching.  thumbup.gif

yes, it doesnt comes with any internal optical drive.
but it comes with 3 USB 2.0 ports.
means you got to use external USB optical drive to install windows in it.
or copy other application into a flashdrive then install from there.

Maybe. But his cost should be different from that of the official retailer. Lower perhaps. Since he got his stock from Taiwan or sth.

My brother in law mentioned about the Eee yesterday but didn't think much about it until i read this thread this morning and found that the price below RM1.5K. Below link shows what the Eee is bundled with. Also a lot of videos at on Eee at YouTube too.

http://eeepc.asus.com/en/guide.htm

Now got thread for prelaunch at RM1299 which is half the price of my Dopod 818Pro when i bought it, me very interested in getting one as it is small and screen much bigger then my PDA and great for travelling. Can also use it to watch movie in the car.

The storage may be limited but i got a spare external USB HDD lying around collecting dust.

Since it got no IrDA and BT, can it be connected to handphone to surf internet via GPRS/3G at places that got no wifi?

k0k_w31,

1) What time your shop close on Friday? If i have sent you the form before 16th November, is the unit reserved until your closing time?

2) Lazy to download and use Paint to fill in form. Can you fax the form to me tomorrow when i get to the office?

3) Also there was a question in respect to CC purchase which you didn't answer. Is there any surcharge?

Added on November 11, 2007, 7:34 pmif let say the purchaser is more than the number of the limited units of Eee Pc,
then we have to sell to those who come earlier than you althought you have fax us the pre-launch form.

ok, regarding about the RAM upgrade to 1GB,
Im very concern about this issue too, since i will buy one also.
I've talk to Asustek people about this.
may be we got to go to Asus Royal Club there for the proper RAM upgrade.
hope they will approve and let us upgrade the Ram to 1GB in reasonable price. wink.gif

No, you cant.
Because the Eee PC comes with the Sticker between the RAM cover n the body.
Once broken, will void the warranty.
Im waiting for the new from Asustek regarding adding Extra RAM by them.

Actually I've forgotton to check which version.
By the way, it comes with messaging software, games, and many good stuff especially for kids learning.
will check it out once the my demo unit arrived.
Will give you update once i know what is the software version. smile.gif

no, it comes with 512MB as Asus official website said.
since it comes with a single slot for the RAM.
so you only can take out that piece of 512MB, then replace it by another 1GB for the Maximum Performance.
Because we cannot simply upgrade the RAM by ourself, it will void the warranty due to warranty stickers broken after u open the RAM cover.

lol, ok.
Well honestly, when the time i first knewing this machine, i was in love it with.
Because it suit my usage.
I did try it already last friday, it was small and cute.
Hmm...performance wise still consider fast if you using in linux software.
but i didnt try windows, Asus people not allowed me to format it to windows XP.
and by the way, it came from taiwan for marketing testing, so it will return back to taiwan later.

is looks great, pearl white body and small, but we can feel the body is very solid when we hold it using one hand.
not like those expensive notebook u feel like worry it will crack the screen when u holding it tight.
Design for kids ma, somemore durable and shock proof design. haha
and when u hold it, u can feel the solidness. so whenever you go, jz bring and use.
like going to starbuck or any cafe with Wifi services.

People like me will only using this thing for msn and suft the net and also online banking.
it comes with 4GB flash drive, come on, what else u expect in this price which is RM1299??
U buying a hightech handphone is more than that. jz imagine, u getting a mini notebook at RM1299, how cheap it is???

The screen size is 800 by 480 pixels.
so for guys n gals like me who always put on our own personalise wallpaper have to touch up a bit (i mean edit the size)
the webcam is 300k pixels, but still looks good, not those blur like cant see ur eyes at all, haha.
as u gus know la, we cant compare with those big notebook which comes with 1.3 or 3 megapixels one.
especially the performance...

then the battery is 4 cells 5200 mAh, can last till 3.5 hours.
Enough ade.

the last thing is, I believe in their Quality and services, thats y i will own one unit for my daily use too, haha.
Hope you guys can get it and satisfy with it usage.

Cheers... rclxms.gif

this one im not sure,
because the 8GB price i guess will almost the same with the cheapest range of bigger notebook which selling at RM1799,
They jz told me the 8GB Flash disk cost a lot, using the external hard drive better.
so at this moment havent heard any news from Asustek for the upcoming model, somemore if the pre-sale sold all of it,
then PC fair may be no Eee Pc also.
Althought the 4GB version will have the pre-sale on 16th november.
I guess it might take so long time to wait another batch coming,
due to the whole world shortage of Asus Eee Pc...

yeah you can install XP on it. it WILL take a big chunk of the SSD but its possible. heck, Asus is even giving the drivers for the tuff in a dvd they are providing with the unit. So if want to install XP, have to use external dvd/cd drive la. on HOW to install, google it. i know there are a few brave souls out there that has done it.

one question - when this promo ends, will the shop carry more Eees in malaysia? or Asus will start distributing it around computer shops?

1299 for a ultra mobile laptop - so nice, but i have to save up first liao...T_T

yeah you can install XP on it. it WILL take a big chunk of the SSD but its possible. heck, Asus is even giving the drivers for the tuff in a dvd they are providing with the unit.

*
Actually im still wasnt sure after the promo end we still can order more Eee Pc to sell or not.
But will update if i received any news smile.gif

Else, I see no point for us to submit the form.

Hi seaotter,

Hehe... I just send in the form only. Not confirm buying. I'm still debating whether to get this or a 12" laptop. Twinhead has some pretty exciting offers too. RM27++ can get one with bluetooth, wifi, DVDRW and GeForce graphics card.

Hmmmm...

Wah, u just got ur 6828 and now u wanna sell it off ady? Lol! That's fast!

I can understand the hesitation and wariness of dealing with Linux, but you guys should give it a chance. Take up the challenge of learning something with this.

Either way, slip in an 8Gb SDHC card and you will have more storage space than you ever need. I guess this is up to the individual, but I'm willing to give Xandros a chance. I also have the option to go the WinXP route if I need to, with that 8Gb SDHC card i have handy.

The reason i see here why most will say that they dont have enough space is that they treat this like a typical notebook, when the EeePC is anything but typical! Like what Kazasho have described, all the basic needs like IM, media players and going online are already being taken care of with the preinstalled applications. If you are using this laptop for anything more than those activities, you are making the wrong decision buying this laptop, you would be better off getting an actual laptop than this. You should read the philosophy and the reason why Asus came up with this. Do not treat this like a typical laptop or you will be sorely disappointed.

Treat it like a device with specific function in mind.

Like a coffee espresso machine. You are guaranteed great coffee with it, as long as you read the instructions right and follow them. You can also mod it to make tea for you, but there are no guarantees that your tea will come out tasting nice.

Same case here. The EeePC is geared towards doing specific functions excellently, but nobody can tell you that you can't install other applications to do other things on it. It is just that the experience using it with this application will not necessarily be a pleasant experience.

The trouble with Malaysians are that they are taking the Pengguna Bijak campaign to the ridiculous end, wanting cheap prices but also demanding the best of specs. Use it as it is intended and you are guaranteed an enjoyable experience, just dont come back here whining about buying this EeePC and complain that it couldn't run your preferred apps. You already made an erroneous decision buying this if you already have that in mind.

Yes, String is right. So everyone please do check out the system first before buying it cause you're not exactly buying what the masses call a standard notebook for RM1299.

Anyway I guess I'll see you there on Friday String, hopefully I can slip out of work to secure my unit. And Kok Wei still hasn't confirmed receipt of my fax after I have send it to him twice, 5 days ago, and right just now. if i had a scanner on me right now I'd just scan and email him the darn forms! wink.gif

I think he's keeping tab of it somewhere else, in his own list somewhere.

Any USB external drive should work. Im planning to use this with the Xbox 360 HD-DVD external drive for optical disc installations.

Added on November 12, 2007, 6:35 pmDont think it would matter on who faxes the form first, it would be the case of who gets to their premise first on this 16th. As long as I get one unit and it works fine, it doenst really matter to me if im first or last.

somewhere on the net you can see that 4GB releases now, then 8GB next month.. so if you really prefer the 8gb, then do wait for it.

After talking with some people it seems that cheap 8GB SDHC is class 4 which is slow and not very usable. I think I'm gonna have to do more research first. But anyway Kok Wei, I was just suggesting it to you maybe you might want to take the opportunity to sell some SDHC cards if you guys have any in stock.

The 1001 model is a reality, but the pricepoint may be encroaching into the those of a full-fledged laptop, that it may not be viable for sale after all.

Im interested to get back into the last 10inch experience i've lost since the Fujitsu P series, but it would be pipe dream to think the price wont be going beyond RM2000.

I'll stick with the 4Gb version. Storage solved by the 8Gb SDHC i already have from my Xacti HD camcorder, RAM is easily solvable as well by standard RAM sticks too.

First thing to do when i got this is to create a restore image of the Linux OS on a spare 1Gb SD card i have lying around. From the folks at EEEUser forum, the restore image filesize is only around 910Mb.

I taught they discontinued the Eee PC 1001 oredi since they have many Eee models hmm.gif

"There are reports that this model will be canceled due to overlap with ASUS's existing ultraportable notebook lineup. It may still be released under a different brand, however."

well, this is last week news, the one mentioned above was one month old news.

"During the Asus Eee PC announcements in Germany and Austria last week the German Asus press representative Holger Schmidt made a statement to a press agency called pressetext that the Asus 8G would come with a larger 10 inch display."

Common sense. Will a 10 inch EeePC still reside in the economically affordable scale of point or will it be just another 10incher? This line of reasoning is what compelled me into getting the present 4Gb version. Getting the 8Gb version will mean jacked up price from the present RM1299 to a price up to and including RM2000. While im not short of cash or anything at the moment, i could financially cope with the 8Gb , hell, even the 10incher. But if you do it by Asus's philosophy, which includes affordablity in this case, all these criterias come to mind.

In short, buy only what you need, not what you want. I've already a Macbook, and going 10incher for this defeats the purpose of me getting the EeePC for portability. I've lived with the 4.5inch screen size of Vaio UX all this while, so getting the EeePC is an upgrade in screen real estate for me. The processor speed is a downgrade for me,when you consider it clockspeed-by-clockspeed, but im running the EeePC on a different platform altogether, on a different OS where clockspeed may not necessarily means much.

It all comes to what you intend to do wit this little marvel. If you're using it as your primary notebook, then you will be in trouble, and most definitely be disappointed. Going 10incher to the EeePC 1001 is a waste for me since this means sacrificing its key advantage in portability. The next reason why im inclined to accept the diminutive aspects of the EeePC, both specs and sizewise, is that i treat it as what it is intended, and nothing more. In fact, im excited about going back into dabbling with Linux, and not back to the bloatware (however trimmed down it would be) that is Windows. I want this thing to instant ON (XP? Good luck on that!), fast boot up, snappy response, and do what it was advertised to do without any side effects. Asus may say it is also compatible to run with WinXP, but not mentioning how pleasant it would be.

Life is about challenges, and going for the familiar = routine and boring to me. To each his or her own i guess, but going about at how good the responses were by users on the preinstalled Xandros, i cant wait to experience this myself.

Maybe when im really really bored, and want to submit myself to self-flaggelation and torture, i would consider going into the mess that is WinXP, but until then, im running this baby AS IT IS INTENDED.

well, i think the other way. it could be Asus marketing idea to create a new market in mobile computing. Using EEEPC as the starting point, create a few segments eg: low, medium, high end... market of EEEPC.

for a bit high end segments eg: 8G 10", it can potentially grap the market of other branded ultraportable notebook, especially for business/sales/corporate execs.

low end models for new comers. medium end models for light users/students.

when think of this, we can imagine what is the purpose of Asus creates the 8G 10".

well, i think the other way.  it could be Asus marketing idea to create a new market in mobile computing.

*
I would understand if you dont have any laptops right now and wants the best speced EeePC you can get. But a lot of those getting the EeePC are getting this as an option to carry around than their regular laptop. That way, if you get the highest speced, their present laptops are more or less redundant.

I see a lot of people are still thinking of the eeePC as a regular notebok for everyday use, it is NOT! If you buy one with that kind of thougt, you're going to be very disappointed!

i for one think it as the cheapest sub notebook that you can buy in the market now to do normal day-to-day jobs - document writing, net surfing, occasional songs/video, maybe some light programming.

its light enough for me to bring to class and use it without me having the need of needing huge tables or something like that.

for me, even with XP,. 4GBs is enough for what i intend it to do - Memory cards/thumb drive are cheaper per GBs these days, so its not hard to have stuff to go.

question - for those who has it - mind putting up a picture of the power brick? i heard its small, but i need to see it then i can belive biggrin.gif

I do have one M-Life Notebook Model:HYT210C ... and it is a touchscreen notebook cool2.gif ... I bought this about rm4800 end of 2000 ... it is 14inch touchscreen screen ... just use your finger with normal XP

The drawback is 14inch notebook ... which is big to bring around ... htc shift is too small and pricey...

This very good rule... one person with one form can only buy one unit of EeePC.
Very fair to the rest of the people. What happen to the stock which you keep for the person who fill up the form but don't turn up ?

BTW, will the demo unit be available on Saturday or planning to sell that if the response is overwhelming ?

Yes, i wan to make it fair to everybody.
Ok, like let say the person who fill up the form but never turn up, he/she will be replace by the one behind, then need to re-queue from behind.

So u guy must come here early and take the number from me (this is special privilege for those submit the form ealy)
then will make sure u can get the eee on that day.

But do not forget that u have submitted the form early doesnt mean u can come here late ya.
if you cannot come, please ask someone who can be ur volunteer.

then the Pre-sale started at 1pm, so make sure u all will be in my store,
this is the most important timing to get the Eee.

But im understand Malay customer got sembayang right?
Can u all list down ur name so that when u all come here i can arrange for u guys?

1) Balok.

Yes, actually the Pre-launch unit is limited, somemore only available in KL.
So i think there are quite a lot of customers actually couldnt come here and buy it.
But let say Eee PC is available in PC fair, i guess we can make it better..

For Seaotter,

Still dont believe me, although i posted the pic of the power charger in my previous post? Here it is again, with my iPhone.

Lokgotz,

I should think that if they refuse to reimburse you with a brand new one, instead of a molested one you have, then you can throw tantrum here. Try talking to them nicely, and explain to them rationally. As far as i can remember, MTCS (Mike in particular) is very very reasonable when it comes to returns and replacements during early purchases period. Rather than throwing a tantrum here, i suggest you head back there and explain to them calmly. The bunch i see there are not known to me, but i know the old MTCS staffs there, and they are very reasonable. I know it is very disheartening and disappointing to see your unit molested before you did it, but there may be some confusion, when they might grabbed the wrong stock (display unit, instead of brand new ones) and mistakenly sell it to you.

I've been MTCS customers for a while back, since their early single-store-in-Imbi/Lowyat days, and even though the younger staff may seem obnoxious and ignorant, the vets there are quite accomodating and friendly.

I try not to think bad of vendors until i hear both sides of the story. If i could prove them wrong but in nice calm manner, they themselves malu and will remember my case in any future dealings i have with them. In the end, both sides win.

Calm down, and i suggest you head back there and demand, calmly though, for their explanation. If you need to, you can pass me your name/receipt number and i can forward your case to Mike if needed to. You need to hurry though, im due for Adelaide tonight.

Stringfellow,

Thanks for your offer but I'm ok.

Yes I admit that this is only one side of my story and I am waiting for Kok Wei for an explanation here (He was online when I posted my previous message).

I don't mind having this unit but at least let me know that it is a used unit or let me check the contents before signing the form. When I was there, there were less than 5 people in the line and I don't think switiching the EEE PC on and test on it's Wi-Fi would delay the whole thing.

Anyway, I am in the process of restoring it to factory configuration, which means that I do not have anymore proof.

I'll let this go and if I offended anyone here, my sincere appologies. I was red headed and I am calm now.

P.S. Kok Wei, I hope I get an explanation from you in this thread/PM.

Thanks.

k0k_w31: thanks bro for your excellent and friendly service. Posting now using the Eee smile.gif

Came back and wife already on the unit for an hour. It was hot! Its now on my notebook cooler.

Just connected it to my home wi-fi without any problems. Must say that i am happy with the screen. Connect to external mouse and on the spot it works. Good thing its not pure white like in the ad.

However the keyboard is small and not suitable for typing long documents.

And mine is new rclxm9.gif

P.S. my wife said you nice guy.

I hope Kok Wei comes in here with the explanation. This will soothe temper, calm misunderstandings and allay fears of them of possibly screwing their user demographics just because it is a hot selling item. Im not worried though, from my experience, MTCS always had been good to me.

Gotta pack up for work!

Oh , all those previous post after the pics? Posted on the EeePc of course! rclxms.gif rclxm9.gif

I GOT A USED UNIT INSTEAD OF A BRAND NEW UNIT FROM MCTS for RM1299!

i am really angry now.....me and my friends bought 3 units.....my friends unit opens up to configure the user name and passwords and the time....mine just open up to the main screen.....

i check the wifi connection, there are already 7 connection inside previously....linksys and Di-524, airzed, timezone, indochine, charles something and a few more wireless AP....

there are also some history on the web browser, google, timezone and other URLs...

the battery on my unit is about 5% while my friends both got about 80% charge...

their battery was sealed (with celotape) but mine was opened.....

i wanted to check my unit before i signed the "Receive with Satisfaction" area but the sales person said, "nevermind one, it's brand new"

Hey bro, Pls let me know for further details,

R u purchase it directly or u ask somebody to pickup.

Got my Skype Video working rclxm9.gif

goto to link http://forum.eeeuser.com/viewtopic.php?id=1500&p=1

after reading four pages i just followed post #78 what "clevin" mentioned notworthy.gif notworthy.gif notworthy.gif

1. all new eee pc

2. add/remove softwares, update skype (still 1.4)

3. download xandros build of skype 2.0 beta from skype.com, open file manager, install it

4. call up a terminal (Ctrl+Alt+T), input "sudo echo 1 > /proc/acpi/asus/camera"

and thats it.

Make a call, then click video icon (blue) and click start video. It works rclxm9.gif I restarted and video still works, no need anything else.
