"Asus Next Release: Asus Eee PC 8G to have 10 inch Display". this should be the right model for people who wish for a larger screen.

see link below:

I taught they discontinued the Eee PC 1001 oredi since they have many Eee models  hmm.gif

"There are reports that this model will be canceled due to overlap with ASUS's existing ultraportable notebook lineup. It may still be released under a different brand, however."

well, this is last week news, the one mentioned above was one month old news.

"During the Asus Eee PC announcements in Germany and Austria last week the German Asus press representative Holger Schmidt made a statement to a press agency called pressetext that the Asus 8G would come with a larger 10 inch display."

well, i think the other way. it could be Asus marketing idea to create a new market in mobile computing. Using EEEPC as the starting point, create a few segments eg: low, medium, high end... market of EEEPC.

for a bit high end segments eg: 8G 10", it can potentially grap the market of other branded ultraportable notebook, especially for business/sales/corporate execs.

low end models for new comers. medium end models for light users/students.

when think of this, we can imagine what is the purpose of Asus creates the 8G 10".

one more thing. i read from the internet, it's ok to break the sticker for RAM upgrade, it won't void the warranty. but it's Asus usa website. for EEE PC bought from local example MTCS, is the warranty still valid after RAM upgrade?

everybody talking abt installing XP SP2 in eeepc, i'm interested in getting one, but can i install win2K pro SP4 in it?

should be lighter/faster/smaller than XP SP2 right?
*
i think the only problem would be the win2k drivers support. if Asus and the hardware vendors didn't provide the hardware driver for win2k, the EEE PC won't be that perfect under win2k. perhaps someone here try that before.

1. After install all the Windows Update, will has 3xxMB left.

Disable the windows Restore will gain about 7xx-9xxmb
Paging File, disable it. Get Initial memory free space.
use CMD, open "sfc.exe /purgecache"
*
nice solution. now i got 700MB left. thanks biggrin.gif

Got it from Taiwan. Colleague helped me get while on hol there. NT13,800. Just too bad the exchange rate wasn't as good when changed money for it. Works out to about RM1,470. Comes with 1GB ram and a black mouse. But put in a 2GB ram instead.
*
nice price there. here 4G version already for sale at RM1499. (the MTCS case different lar, rm1299)

Only the 7A serial numbers and the 8gb has it but of course, the mini pci-e is already occupied by the 8gb flash module on the 8GB model.

Mine is the 7A serial number rclxms.gif No need to worry the 4G SSD worn out, as long as there are mini pci-e SSD for sale, i'm safe. thanks.

only the 4G with mini pcie version can become 12GB, if only Asus sells the 8GB SSD mini-pcie module separately. smile.gif

one of my friends asked me can we use the EEEPC for BT downloading? i said definitely not recommended since it's using SSD. However, he said it's possible to upgrade the EEEPC to 2GBram, then used the RAMDISK for downloading without accessing the SSD.

Use the Ramdisk software to make part of the RAM become a HDD for download? i have not idea is it possible.

anyone know about this and try before? if it's possible it might help us to save some electricity bill money. smile.gif

mine was already installed with Windows XP, i disable the paging, tested a few applications, office 2003, real player, mplayer, k-lite, surf internet, so far no issue. smile.gif

it should be fine with normal daily application, but i never ty huge & big application on this small notebook, also, after install winXP SP2, office 2003, AVG and few small apps, my SSD left about 1.5GB.

i can't believe people will buy the EEEPC for gaming shakehead.gif . any low end about RM2000 notebook should be better than EEEPC. maybe EEEPC can run some old games.
