My brother in law mentioned about the Eee yesterday but didn't think much about it until i read this thread this morning and found that the price below RM1.5K. Below link shows what the Eee is bundled with. Also a lot of videos at on Eee at YouTube too.

http://eeepc.asus.com/en/guide.htm

Now got thread for prelaunch at RM1299 which is half the price of my Dopod 818Pro when i bought it, me very interested in getting one as it is small and screen much bigger then my PDA and great for travelling. Can also use it to watch movie in the car.

The storage may be limited but i got a spare external USB HDD lying around collecting dust.

Since it got no IrDA and BT, can it be connected to handphone to surf internet via GPRS/3G at places that got no wifi?

k0k_w31,

1) What time your shop close on Friday? If i have sent you the form before 16th November, is the unit reserved until your closing time?

2) Lazy to download and use Paint to fill in form. Can you fax the form to me tomorrow when i get to the office?

3) Also there was a question in respect to CC purchase which you didn't answer. Is there any surcharge?

k0k_w31: thanks bro for your excellent and friendly service. Posting now using the Eee smile.gif

Came back and wife already on the unit for an hour. It was hot! Its now on my notebook cooler.

Just connected it to my home wi-fi without any problems. Must say that i am happy with the screen. Connect to external mouse and on the spot it works. Good thing its not pure white like in the ad.

However the keyboard is small and not suitable for typing long documents.

And mine is new rclxm9.gif

P.S. my wife said you nice guy.

got mine yesterday after friday prayer. The linux was nice and fast but I went back and formatted it with WinXP ( need to run some windows program for my work). XP speed is quite OK ( tho I haven't yet installed any other program xcpt firefox and YM), but need to switch off system restore and the virtual memory kept low or else not much space left on the disk. Now I got 1.9gbyte left. I also notice on XP the 'disk access' LED lights up more frequently.

The palmrest (its too small to put my palm) can get quite hot after a while.

The webcam is especially nice for YM.
*
how about the startup time with XP compared to linux?

looks like so far only Brianette reporting his unit not hot after "long" usage.

Day 2 of Eee-own

Attempting to install skype 2.0 - will the 2.0 version overide the old 1.4?
*
Not sure overide or not but look the same to me but with video call icon after installing Beta 2.0.

Is it good/durable enough for 7/24 BT downloading???  Think of want to get one for my bf wub.gif
*
if really getting one for 7/24 downloading, then better get a proper notebook/desktop since it ain't going to be portable anyway. Furthermore as you are aware, it has only 4GB SSD and no DVDRW for burning to DVD, by the time to add these item, you can already get a notebook.

after trying so many times to enable webcam in bios but can't detect webcam after startup i remember marauderz mentioning Internet tab has an eBook icon. Mine earlier got but now its not there. So did a system recovery and went to Bios and webcam is already Enabled and eBook icon showed up again in Internet Tab. However webcam still can't work so went to Add/Remove Software and did Bios update and the eBook icon disappear again! Check Bios and Camera set to Disable and Enabled it save and exit. Webcam still can't work.

Repeat many times pressing F9 for recovery and Enabling camera but keeping getting Failed in Testing Webcam.Getting pissed off.

Going to Pavilion and ask KokWei for help.

I know nuts about linux. Got this eeePc last Friday. Yesterday, updated the bios via the Add/Remove apps. After reboot/restart, notice that the eBook icon in Iternet tab is missing. Futhermore, the original icon for GDocs has changed. Appreciate if someone can help me to recover the original settings.

Best regards,
*
yah, upgrade bios the ebook icon magically dissapear doh.gif

to get back original setting, go read manual item 6.2. You can either press F9 during boot up or use external usb DVD with the DVD cd that comes with your unit. The factory standard installation will give you back eBook icon.

However, if your unit is working without any flaws and webcam working, better not to change bios. Read my earlier post, do the Bios thingy so many times but yet webcam still can't work. Anyway if you do go and do recovery, please take note of ilham87 comment on the advance...finnish setting.

Thanks Gen-X.

If I will to perform F9 to recover, it will mean that I will lose all my current settings?.
p/s manual item 6.2 should read as 6.8.
*
you're welcome. And yes all current settings done by your will go back to original factory settings. but nvm lah, that the fun of spending time with new "toy" tongue.gif

Hmm manage to get a unit for my kids last friday, all ok, except 3g with n6120c, still no go, getting dependencies
*
go get streamyx and wireless router bro. anyway i do think ASUS got to deal with the heat problem first as i don't think its a good idea for our kids to have a hot unit.

Gen-X,

pc with linux is just nice for my kids ... as previous experience with windows pc ... always windows kaput as they dont really know to use properly ...
*
yah agree with you. the notebook used by my daughter and wife always kena virus, don't know what they do and me got to waste time cleaning every 2 weeks. Now the eee i give my wife to use, don't have to worry about virus, Worst senario just go back to factory settings which takes lets then 5 minutes. Also if the Eee really kaput, damage on the pocket also not heavy.
