the new ipod nano finally catches up with the sony video walkman in screen size and pixels. will be interesting to see how the price matches up with the sony when it launches here and if sony will do a price cut!
the ipod touch is very very nice but i think i will wait for the iphone...which will probably launch in 2009 or something....hahahah |

Well, the Shuffle is a refresh, no excitement there, the Nano, looks fugly IMHO, but it's features are commendable. I can't comment much on the Ipod Classic because other than the new UI, extra space + new looks, there's nothing much. As to the iPOD Touch, it's turning more into a beautiful PDA than a music player.
As an existing Ipod 5G user, I'd love one of those iPOD Touch, but at that price, with that kind of a storage, maybe i'll wait. |

The touch is an iphone without the phone capabilities >.<' while the 'fatty' nano just killed the nano line. Even fugly could not justify its new looks. The 160GB classic is the most promising of all but i don't like the new all metal finish. No wonder apple shares dropped 5.1%

i'm not going to buy an iphone, so i guess the ipod touch will be a good buy for me...as i said before, i want a widescreen ipod & the touch has that...though i need an ipod with bigger storage...looks like i might be buying two new ipods...ipod classic & touch...one for the storage & another for video....probably not at the same time....

on the rational side of me, i think better buy iphone and ipod classic. but i believe i will not prevent myself from buying the ipod touch when i test it here when it's arrive. it's happens to me everytime. hahaha. maybe i'll wait for pcfair next year. hope they will throw in some freebies. hohoho.

or if you really don't want the 'phone'....i mean i already have a phone that i like & works well, and capable of doing what i want it to do (i.e install third party apps & i certainly can put whatever ring tone i want without paying another 99c for it....) i just want the media capabilities & the touch provides that...though a hard drive ipod touch would suit my needs better...

well if u wan radio...
can buy the radio remote and attach it to the ipod lahhhhh i definitely don't like the new ipod nano... it used to be tall...suddenly so short... >.< and i really like the space capacity of 160gb of ipod classic... about the ipod touch... hmph... my quicktime isn't working properly so have to wait till later to check the ipod touch... overall... the design is almost the same...except the tallness and shortness... thingy... |

What's up with the insufficient space for iPod touch? Just curious. I bought almost 2000 songs and it's only 8GB. Talking bout movies, rather watch it on my Mac. Personal preferences I guess. iPod touch for me. Bout Nano, I've to agree that it's kinda ugly. Oh well. Some people might think it's cool. (Not)

I think two new model arrived... Classic and Nano
Was trying my luck if the 2nd Gen Nano got price drop then saw 2nd Gen Nano 4 GB selling at RM 599. Might as well get the 3 Gen Nano at rM 619 ....RM 20 more onli. I think it looks stump simply because its much lower in height compared to the previous one. If this nano is put next to the first generation, shouldn't be much difference in width

hey guys, morgan is already selling the new ipods, any idea when shops in low yat will be selling? because if i buy from morgan and resell it, at least i can tell my customers that the ipod not yet come out in malaysian stores rite?

the ipod nano 8gb is really tempting me especially the black and white(or may be silver) colour. the price is good coz it can play video. should i get it or should i wait for i touch and compare it? i touch is nice too, but it is bigger to carry around. classic ipod is 1499 for 160gb. that's a huge amount of space for that price.

Maybe this has been mentioned earlier, but a note for those considering the new iPod Nano and Classic. The TV out feature has been locked on these iPods, you can only enable them with some special docks or cabling coming soon from Apple and the other accessory makers.

Buy from USA = RM1,050 Buy From SG = RM1,140 Buy From AU = RM1,200 Using calculate from x-rates.com la. So, if you are going there or your parents going those places, ask them buy for you from there, and maybe throw the box away so that won't kena customs tax. The easiest for me is ask my JB fren to get it (targetting the 16GB touch) from SG and grab it from him the next time he comes down to KL. |

It's been months since I last check the Apple official site and I'm shocked to find out that they had actually upgraded their 5th gen iPod to 160GB storage and even an iPod Touch. It's just shocking for me!
Btw, isn't the price tag for iPod 80GB (5th gen) is relatively the same as the 160GB iPod Classic? I guess I might go for iPod Classic 160GB since my entire song collection have ~ 50GB. |

Ok everything is pointing me to gettin the iPod touch instead of the iPhone
Been reading a lot of reviews of iPhone and i'm sorry to say this but i really think the phone functions on iPhone are truly crap. No MMS, no multi-receipient SMS, no Bluetooth files exchange, not being able to set ur own ringtones, etc. I dont need the google map and also i have got my digicam already so that's another abundant feature for me. I'm definitely saving up (and hoping for mid-year bonus which for some reason comes out end of this month) to get the ipod touch.
For me, 16gb is enough, I have a 5g 80gb ipod video and though i've loaded most of it with videos, I've found that I hardly use the ipod for long enough time to watch all the videos i've put into it... I got to admit though, the huge size of the new 160gb ipod is ingtriguing but lets take a look.. From Itunes, an average movie is about 1.3gb in size which runs for aobut 2 hrs.. don't forget though that itunes increased the size of the itunes video files, you can easily encode your own videos at the original resolution which is more than adequate for watching on the touch's screen.. if i remember correctly avg movie sizes was abt 700mb, so having 16gb i'll take half of that to store 10 movies or equiv video, which is about 20hrs? (even at full res i'll get about 15).. and the rest for music.. then again, its just me, i've never filled my ipod nano much less ipod 5g with music more than 1gig, so the touch is just right for me.. and having seen that freeking video tour online where that guy used his fingers to "pinch" for zooming in and out of photos, I'm sold!! Next month couldn't come soon enough ! |

hey guys, I'm in California now and i've jst went to Apple shop yesterday and found out that the Ipod Touch was extraordinary fantastic!!! I've try playing it around and i just love it so much but too bad it only available for sale starting 28th of September. The price written there for 8Gig is USD299 and 16Gig is USD399(approximately RM1052 and RM1404 if convertion rate is 3.52).

Prices won't be jacked up so high and authorised resellers will sell at the SRP/RRP price so don't worry too much lah. Unless the RRP price is ridiculously high (which sometimes do happen).

I thought the iPod Touch comes under the iPod family, and going under that, means controlled prices as well, simultaneous (or near simultaneous) availability via Apple approved resellers? This is no longer the case of iPhone, folks.....where it's future is uncertain in Malaysia, this is confirmed coming over to Malaysia, and the way i see it from past history, these items are controlled price-wise.
Im looking forward to see the crowd reaction, once it arrives here. After all, Machines is just Mediaplex next door neighbour. |

I agree with String. There won't be price gouging. There never has when it comes to Apple products (even low low availability). Witness the scarcity of 2.2Ghz MacBookPros for example. No price hike there...
Apple Malaysia keeps its resellers on a very tight leash price-wise. Unlike Nokia (E90 price-gouging is a good point of reference). I've been playing with a friends iPhone and my impression that if this is version 1 of Apple's phone interface (remember version 1 of the iPod interface) then the future looks very bright for this product segment. Now why can't Nokia make a slick interface like this? |

I thought the Lowyat crowd are the thriftier ones( read:cheap), going to individual resellers here for prices below SRP, instead of preordering with cutthroat prices?
iPod Touch WILL be available locally and officially too, not like the iPhone. There is no reason to succumb to "entrepreneurs" making a quick buck out of your exasperation. Dont fall for the price gouging, the pricetags im seeing around the Trade section is laughable....., im laughing AT you, not WITH you, if you fall for these clowns. |

Don't think the iPod Touch will be such a hit in our shores, in other words it won't be sold out. Even in the states there's still plenty for everyone, cause there seems to be a problem with the LCD screen plus more and more people are returning it until Apple fix the problem. It's a hardware problem not software so it's gonna be hard. For those who wants to get it, i advise you guys to hold your horses first don't get into the rush.

Now the question is, would the Apple Store you buy here the iPod Touch here locally, allow you to sync a test movie onto the iPod Touch you're about to buy, to test so that you dont get a messed-up screen? I have that perfect video, the very video that's on the iPhone welcome page that is a guided tour of the features of the iPhone. Lots of black, and that will show it point-blank if the black level inversion to film negative problems of the screen exists on our locally available iPod touch .

Would they allow a return, or exchange once you find out that your screen is messed up? Otherwise, Malaysian consumers are screwed, that ability to simply return the item , and get a new one, no questions asked, or return the item and get refunded back, are both the things i missed from my days back in the States. Consumer is God there, it's the other way round here.

Return is highly possible if the flaw or issue are very dominant & obvious. But I'm not sure if they will refund, most probably they will replace it, or you have to spend the credit on other item.

- Gallant IT store, closed and taken over. - Apple Experience Center in Ikano, now become general IT store. - Apple store in Hartamas closed (to confirm). If business is good, service is excellent. I don't see why they're clossing one after another. |

yeah lar. like the other day i went into an apple retail, ask if they have any demo unit for ipod camera connector. NO
Can I test to makesure my camera is support. No we don't allow that, you have to buy it. Then I said, so meaning you asking me to buy something I'm not sure will work. Most camera are supported. Luckily I did my research before I went there. I'm quite confident that my cam are supported. So I went ahead to buy the connector and tested on the spot. If I never do any in-dept research, I'll definitely walked off. At lease he can offer me to check on the matter, see if my camera model are supported. I had the same experience, as well. The most these stores have are flyers and pamphlets, not unlike Apple Stores in the US, or even in Singapore, where you can testdrive the latest model yourself. Bloody store employees we are all crooks or something.
Went to ask if i could try the iPod Classic. Dont have one opened, only the new iPod Nano. The one other store in KLCC (as if there are any other store in KLCC ), dont even have any units for field test, and they still displaying the old Nano! The only indication that the new iPods are there are those photocopied flyers.....pathetic! Malaysian consumers are subconsciously taught to buy their products without trying it , and forced to live to like it, even if it doesnt fit their needs after purchasing it. Looking it up on the web and trying it on a firsthand basis makes a whole lot of difference, especially with products with known defects like the new iPod Touch. |

i played with the ipod touch today...
there was an apple preview of the touch at their office in bukit damansara today for selected media editors..(less than 10 media were invited..they didnt want to be too loud).... and i must say.....I AM LOOOOOOOOOOVING IT......... they said they dont have the price yet....but i highly doubt it..... The touch will start shipping next week from the US.... We will get it at the end of September...latest in October.... let's just hope they keep their promises.....hehe..... That's good to hear. However ,to confirm this once and for all, this is the album art that is required to check if the screen suffers from inverted/negative black or not:-
 Apparently, Jay-Z's Black Album turns out to be really black on the iPod Touch screen, the black level inverted into this:-  On some cases, the inverted blacks are so bad that even on blacks that arent deep, like shadows casts by characters in a movie, exhibits these inverted blacks. I hope that is not the case for the locally available iPod Touch. |

For the iPhone, you can dial *3001#12345#* and hit the call button to check the LCD Panel ID . The first number would be the production version, it is either 5 series or the 7 series. Some claimed the 7 series being the version rectifying a few of the flaws on previous 5 series LCds, but even within the 7 series LCD, there are segregations. The folks at Macrumors continues this by check production week of the iPhone, obtained from your serial number. Check your 4th and 5th character on your 11-character serial string, those are your production week number.
What all this leads to can either a a merry chase to nowhere, or a deduction towards which iPhone after which production week has the flawed screen with negative blacks. News came in that week 38 iPods are generally free of defects. So, hmm, hope the stocks which arrive in our shores are week 38 onwards. Macy Gray on the box instead of Colin Bailey.

lol sorry guys, im currently in melbourne and the touch was released here 3 days ago, reached stores on friday.
bought myself the 8gb one as ive already got the 30gb ipod video. not sure whats taking m'sia so long to release their ipods, just for everyone's info its selling for $419 AUD here. im happy with my purchase. feel free to ask any questions if needed. cheers. There is a downgrader for 1.1.1 iPhones to 1.0.2 and unlockable that way, that statement about the new iPhones being unlockable is false. The only uppper hand the iPod Touch has is bigger capacity.
Has anyone got their iPod Touch locally, besides Switch in Penang? Any KL store? |

Safari and Youtube performances should be the same as on iPhone ie; brilliantly. I find that in some cases Youtube on the iPhone loads much faster and smoother than on PC at home. This should be case for the iPod Touch as well.
The iPod Touch should carry the same physical dimension as the iPhone, in width and height, on much slimmer in thickness. Instead of the silver chrome lining on the edges, iPod Touch has black linings. Instead of the unscratchable silver surface on the back like on the iPhone, the iPod Touch sports an all chrome surface, just like the present iPods, making it a fingerprint magnet. iPhone's back surface is uniform, it's all silver ......but iPod Touch has this black patch on the top left corner where the chrome gives way to black plastic so that your Wifi signal can come through. This makes the back area of the iPod Touch slightly less sleek than the iPhone. |

then gone to midvalley to ask, they were so rude, ask them when arriving they say "DUNNO LAR, MAYBE NEXT WEEK MAYBE NEXT YEAR!!!" so pissed!!!!  thats the last time im going midvalley's appleshop cause it SUX!! only 2 choice, get from MR. Yeah, Midvalley traffic was crazy. Took me 20-25 minutes to get outta' there.
So far so good, the new iPod touch. Quite a few dead pixels though. Not sure what their policy is on this kinda' thing. |

Actually it was my GF that went to midvalley(machine) at around 11am cause her office is just nearby(boulevard) and a vry CUTE & BEAUTIFUL young lady told me "DUNNO LAR, MAYBE NEXT WEEK MAYBE NEXT YEAR!!!" still pissed!!!! so she walk off after she told her "YOU KNOW YOU LOOK BEAUTIFUL, UNFORTUNATELY YOUR SERVICE SUX!!!!" thats why never mess with a lady

just got back from Queensbay Mall's Switch...

Played around with the 8gig version. there's no screen protector tailored for ipod touch yet but they applied some other ipod's screen protector around it. My first impression was wow.. it really does function like what they've showed us. Multi-touch is just nice when browsing photos and zooming around Safari. Music's good, but when i was testing out the video.. played Spiderman 3 trailer... couldn't really sure whether it has the negative black effects or not... its not that obvious but then.. i duno, maybe my eyes are fooling with me. checked the serial.. it's week 38 batch.. anyone who bought it can confirm perhaps? going in safari gives me the google.com.my page. but no luck browsing any page at all. probably cos bandwidth have been used up around the outlet. within first few minutes, potential buyers already stormed the counter and demanding for the player... hahaaha selling like hot cakes.. i predict it's gonna be sold out either by tonite or tomorrow... |

You need to log into the access point befoe you can open any page in Safari. Otherwise it would give a blank page. Also, once logged into, with password and all, it will stay until you choose "Forget network". Dangerous for password protected encrypted network......

The screen is scratchproof but not under certain light, and angle. If you tilt it at a certain angle , miniscule lines of hairline scratches can be seen. This is especialy visible when you had to tilt the Touch to avoid the inverted black issue.
